  • Is there a way to change my laptop to do an old game to work?

I had no idea where to post this kind of investigation, so I guessed "general content". I'm sorry to any irritation due to people who know what they are doing!

When you click the icon for the drive I get the error message-

«The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running.» Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x 86 (32-bit 0 or x 64 (64-bit version of the program 0 and then contact the software publisher.)) »

In my view, that the software publisher has long been out of business, so no help.

    * Basically, I have very little computer knowledge and have tried everything I can. Is there a simple way in which I can change some things on my computer to make this run, or is it impossible? *

If you can't always run exe, you can find a utility called, emulator. You can also install Virtual Pc program to run this old game

  • I want to play my old games

When we went from windows 98 to Vista, all my old sedentary games that don't involve not destroy the world, killing all the aliens or being generally destructive wouldn't.
Payment of another amount of xxx £ will allow me relaxing games that help to freshen up and calm down after the frenetic work that I do, be playable on the new system? or should I just go to a boot sale and buy an old machine?

In The Settlers series is you should try the official table . There are a lot of people play games (or attempt to play games) on XP/Vista and later versions.

I know for a fact that the settlers 2 can run on Windows Vista because gog.com re-released with Vista compatibility. Generally good old games (gog.com) do things that users want not themselves, which means: the search for solutions make the old XP/Vista-compatible games, then releasing a new installer (with the authorization of the owners of copyright, of course). However, there are solutions for the most of old games without the need to pass through services such as GOG, if you have the original CD. The only thing is that it may take some research, download, tweaking and hit in the right places (like the link I mentioned above for The Settlers) before the game to work perfectly on the latest OS.

To answer your first question, if you have never got a game to work on Vista, there is little chance that this will work better on Windows 7 so spend more money for a newer OS is not the solution.  However, if you manage to get a game running on Vista, the chances that it will also work on seven (using the same advice as you applied for Vista) are very good.

The only advice I can give you is to start with a search in your favorite search engine (Google, Bing... whatever) on the web for the title of the game you have in mind and 'Windows Vista' (for example for settlers 2, you would type in ' settlers "Windows Vista' 2" -citations are important because they tell the search engine to look for settlers 2 and Windows Vista on the same page ") rather than look for all of the word so that will save you a large number of irrelevant results) and then review the results. Depending on the game (is it well known? Is there a community of users around it well?) the chances to quickly find and answer to run your old games on your system may vary. Generally, you will be able to more quickly find reliable solutions for games that are followed by a strong community for games that nobody don't even remember. Some old games with a huge fan base have community sites already there to help you and that probably already have all the answers (like the thief with ttlg.com series). On the other hand, you can be out of luck if you have a game that few people care about play.

    Good luck in your search...

Downloaded the game "national geographic mystery of cleopatra.  its an old game, simplistic, hidden object game.  Downloaded ok, first phase through ok, but when I go to 'play', the computer stops the game and leaves the program.  It should be compatible.  I have used other games of geographical national on my pc, it's the unique, that it will not let me play.

I suggest you to run the game in compatibility mode and check if it works very well.

  • Reg.exe stopped working on windows 7 64 bit when I want to play an old game.

Hello guys. I am using windows 7 Home premium 64-bit in my laptop. I just downloaded an old game (2005-2006 perhaps) so I wanted to play. After finishing download (no virus, I checked), and I run the executable files, the message occurred: Reg.exe has stopped working. and the game does not start.

The game has an application inside reg.exe file, and I think I have to run it manually. but when I tried to run it, the same message is produced.

    This is the error log:

I already asked in a computer forum, but they said that it is the problem of the ILO. and I read in microsoft help, the reg.exe will not run under 64-bit windows. I read the conclusion, but this isn't for windows server 2003, Windows 7. It says that I have to type reg query \\64server\HKLM\software/reg: 64 or if I want to change it to 32 bits reg.exe, I need to replace the reg: 64 by reg: 32.

Will there be another conclusion of this problem instead to install the 32-bit operating system?

What about XP mode for windows 7, it'll work?

Help me please... Thank you very much.

    Hi Liclac,

    ·        What is the name of the game?

Check if the game is compatible with windows 7, you can see the ink below:http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/default.aspx

If the game is not compatible then you can try to run the game in compatibility mode or in windows XP mode.

Try to run the game in compatibility mod and check if the error occurs again: make sure to run older programs in this version of Windows:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-Windows

  • TV display directdraw problems with old games

I run a Windows 7 with GForce 8600 on a TV screen and I receive a directdraw cannot initialize the problem. I tried using the suggestions of the other threads but when I click on display properties, settings, advanced, troubleshoot, it won't let me click on change settings. I tried other solutions, but it still does not work.

    Hello

    ·        When exactly do you get the error message (while installing or playing)?

    ·        This all the steps that you have already tried?

    ·        What games you try to play?

    ·        Have you updated the drivers from the manufacturer nVidia?

If the games you try to play are old games try their installation in compatibility mode and check if it works very well. Follow the link given below to run Setup in compatibility mode.

  • Windows 7 client version is closing my old game during the game titles

Windows 7 client version runs some other very well on what games it closes.  I have older games title but some work very well, others do not work.  I had problems with windows doesn't recognize not the disk in the driver (Stronghold 2), I had the game for closing right after the introduction (black and white), I got the game close after an hour of play (SimCity4), and I had absolutely no problem with the game for hours (Rome: Total War).  The screen flashes always black and when it appears it shows Windows is trying to find a solution to this problem.  It gives no option and then restart seems to do nothing at all because the problem persists.  Is this just a problem with the customer of output or is it just a simple matter of new software too old games.

FYI: Windows xp worked fine with all these titles on the old computer, and now the new computer was built just so there is no problem with the hardware.

    tunksee,
The XP VPC is only for Windows 7 full or professional edition.  It seems that some of them are older games and can just have problems with current running on a newer system.  You can check with the manufacturers of games to see if they have all the patches that will help the game race on Vista\Windows7.  Mike - Engineer Support Microsoft Answers

  • Playing old games on (or in) Windows 7

Is anyway to play older games which worked on Windows 95, 98, in or around Wondows 7?

    Thank you!!

It is also a broad topic to give an appropriate response. You should restrict the question down to specific games that interest you. Each game has its own problems, and where you can find a patch to make the game compatible Windows 7 is very rare (some sites like the good old games, http://www.gog.com, offer copies remastered their favorites that are compatible - but which does not apply to all games you may prefer and is not free).

  • Compatibility issues with the old game - UbiSoft 'Adventures' happy Laura

Any old hardware and compatibility mode experts out there?

My daughter loved this UbiSoft program when she was little, she would like to try again for reasons of nostalgia, so I made my Christmas project to try to get it going again for her.

She seems to have very specific graphic requirements.

CD box says "Pentium 200 or faster Windows 95/98/ME ' and ' any 4MB compatible Direct 3D graphics" (* but see below for details)

I tried on a laptop 8 win in Windows 95 and Windows 98 compatibility modes and it installs and runs the game, in fact but with display serious corruption - mobile figures produce black spots on static backgrounds and quick movement scenes produce large areas of black. I tried to set all the graphics options that I don't see in the game Installer so the PC itself, but there is no change.

I have some old hardware PC lying around, so I tried first on a Windows XP faithful (Pentium 4 and NVIDIA GForce 6200 graphic) machine and the installation program is running - but not the game itself with joy

I tried to run a virtual machine of MS on this PC to emulate Win98, but it seems to imitate the graphics card - so no joy

Then I tried an AMD Semplon 3100 with VIA / S3G Unichrome PRO IGP graphics. I put in a new hard drive and put a new installation of Windows 98SP2 on it and the installer works (he asked me to reinstall Direct X - what I did with v9c) and the opening menu is displayed, but the PC crashes when I try to launch the game.

I actually still the Pentium2 PC which took place the game on a map of 3Dfx Voodoo2, but at the moment, it is completely dead so I need to find a replacement PSU before I can even try this troubleshooting. I can't trade this 3Dfx card in the machine AMD as the AGP slots are different (3.3 volts and 1.5 Volt flavors...)

    Anyone got any bright ideas?

The Readme file lists the specifications as:

    Minimum configuration

    Accelerator graphics 3dfx Voodoo 1 or 2

  • What is an Ethernet on very old Toshiba laptop adapters

I recently acquired a very old laptop Tosiba from a friend.
My daughter wants to use it for his iPod and tried to install a connection broadband from Tiscali on it and told me that she had an Ethernet adapter.

None of us knows what an Ethernet adapter is, or where to find it or what to do with it!

Could someone help us with that?

    Hello

The Ethernet adapter means that the network card or wireless network adapter.

In your case, it could be a LAN card.

Could you please send the name of notebooks?

    It would be very useful.

  • Diablo 1 does not at all, 12 years old game does not work on the new computer

Hello, I have a Toshiba Satellite P200 with Windows Vista 32-bit, it has an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400 video card. I also have 10 installed Direct x which, according to the manufacturers of my video card is compatible. I ran a test game that was included with the CD and it said that everything is okay. But it is still coming up with this error. "Diablo could not correctly initialize your video card using directX" then it tells me to update my directx which I did. check and update my driver for my graphics card and make sure its compatiable which I did and it's. I've been to Blizzard games, and they said that can not help me and I have to go to the manufacturer of the video card. I went to them and they said because it was a laptop they cannot help me with this and told me to goto, the manufacturer of my laptop that I do at the moment, but if someone had this problem and have any ideas how I can get this race please tell me thanks.

This game was designed for Windows 95. Of many old games do not work under NT (on XP and Vista) kernel unless you use the emulation such as DOSBox.

You can try setting the game to run in Windows 98 compatibility mode (click with the right button on the games EXE file, select Properties-> Compatibility tab).

Otherwise, you will need to install Win95/98 and possibly to use a video card more old since display drivers change so rapidly and drop the old features not more used.

  • Lenovo v580 - full screen scale - work is not in the old games

Intel HD 4000 defining "scale full screen" does not work in the old games.

    http://S22.postimg.org/lg4djhww1/image.PNG

For example "heroes of might and Magic IV" (maximum resolution of the game is 1024 x 768-... system doesn't add black borders to fit screen - instead of graphics in fullscreen scaling).

For me, this option only works on the desktop.

My office is graduated in resolution 1024 x 768 (screen looks wider)- but when I start the game with the same resolution (1024 x 768), the system adds just black horizontal borders... to adapt (1366-1024) = 342 pixels horizontally.

I'm trying to re - install my graphic drivers (Intel and NVidea), but not luck.

Currently, my driver is up to date.

    This is my DxDiag report:

    https://drive.Google.com/file/d/0B8PlsvE7ME5NLVVKd0dRaFpVTlk/view?USP=sharing

    I've found the workaround:

There are several modes of resolution of 1024 x 768 and one of them is what I need.

So I write my C program to set the correct resolution after the beginning of the game.

My plan to write the application that wants to hear it to display the windows and so undermined resolution system settings change message (for example 1024 x 768 without scale full screen)-my application will fix it (will change resolution to 1024 x 768 with full screen scale).

  • Transfer gamer tag to the new Xbox, lost account and signed at old gamer tag shows up. Where is my new gamer tag and saved game history and avatar?

I initially started with an older Xbox360 and played for a few years before the xbox has requested a change of tag gamer for free on my Xbox. So I changed my gamertag and everything was going well until my Xbox 360 broke and forced me to buy a new xbox360 slim. So I bought the hard drive transfer cable and transfer my game data and now it asks me to enter the password and email with this account and when I do it says that it does not match. When I log on my computer it shows my old gamer tag not my other or one of my friends or recorded the history of the game. When the Xbox support helped me download my account on Xbox it came with my old new. I only got an email all my life, so I know that this is the correct e-mail. How can I get the correct information for my new gamer tag so I can access my account on my new Xbox and play without having to create a new and lose all my past history, gamer points and their friends?
