  • Cannot transfer Time Machine backups on the new drive

I store my backup Time Machine on a Seagate 1.5 TB drive when the drive starts giving errors.  I had files on this computer and was able to transfer all except for 2 who were on unreadable sectors.  Fortunately, one of these files was an older archived version that I could afford to give up and the other was a temporary file in the photo library and since all other items were okay, I think I'm good.

The problem came when I tried to transfer my Time Machine backup of 800 GB for a new disk.  When I copy and Exact-paste (cmd-opt-shift-v) the Backups.backupdb to the new drive, it gets the extent of November 23, 2015 and then dies because reports of the Console to the system, it gets an IO error when you try to read:

    /Library/SystemMigration/history/migration-245250B6-4F52-4FBB-BD61-546A8C19CCD5/ QuarantineRoot/private/var/db/dyld/dyld_shared_cache_x86_64

in the relevant backup.  And because it's an IO error it simply abandons the whole process so I have no backup from November 23, included, for now.

Because the disc is unstable, I wasn't able to use disk utility to make repairs on it.  The disc is what is and I have to deal with the mess, that I do not have the disorder, that I would have.

I tried to manually place the missing files in the database, but the operating system will not let me.  I want to just copy my backup / OS X stop abandonment and be more like Windows and give me the options to "try again" or "fail" instead of just quitting!  I mean, why should I lose my backup all hierarchy of 23 November and beyond, simply because you cannot read a file, a file that I could simply replace in the backup of the current version or you can just ignore it.

I tried to copy files on and setting xattr on them to be backup items, but they are wrong.  I tried chflags parameter to make the writable directory, but it does not work.  I can't copy the missing files to fix my archives.  Help.

Please, don't try to transfer backups of a failed drive. Placing the disk aside until you don't know no longer you need the data, then delete and recycle. Start a new backup set on the new drive. For more security, you always have more than one backup.

  • corrupted backup iPhone: you can restore old backup from Time Machine?

    Hello

I recently had my iPhone 6 (last iOS 9.2) stolen and when I bought my new 6 iPhone updated to iOS 9.3.1 and it synchronized, he said that the March 21 backup was corrupt or incompatible.

Leaving aside Why is it (except if in your knowledge, it has an effect), I was wondering is it possible to go into the Time Machine and find the last iPhone backup (hopefully not corrupt or incompatible) and then use it when you synchronize and put up my new phone?

So in this case I would lose a week / a month value of the data over the year or so for my backup previously listed on my iTunes currently.

More important still, I need to get my SMS and notes.

For now, my contacts seem to have all come finer.

A big thank you for any help you can provide.

    See you soon

You should be able to do. Follow the instructions here to find and restore the backup on your hard drive.

  • backup iPhone doubled with iOS9!

I just finished a backup of the iPhone, the first since the upgrade to iOS9. After finishing, I noticed the available disk space on my MBP drop between t0 and about 50 GB 20 GB and when I looked the backups under mobile application support in my home library, I noticed that the backup of the iPhone has nearly doubled in size from 32 GB to 57 GB. My phone is 128 GB 6 more than about 30 GB in the film and 8 GB for free. The only thing really to have changed between two backups is the content of the camera (I deleted the photos and videos after the transfer of external drives and took new who are now in the film, but the size is roughly the same if anything a little less). I can only imagine that the iOS9 new backups are especially neglected before files or there is a bug in the software and large empty files are created in the backup. It might be also something to with the new way that in iOS9 apps are now separated rather specific for each device versions that shared between iPad and iPhone, for example, then perhaps for this reason, there are more specific iPhone data to back up than before.

I searched the web for this and found a lot of people with a similar issue when the backup on iCloud (they have invaded the storage available iCloud), but I have not found one other report of what's happening with local backups.

The question is quite a big problem for me because I have 2 iPhones (work) and iPad (iOS8 backups) currently stored on my MBP so if these backups will also have doubled they does not fit on my local drive and I really want to start to move the backup files on external drives unless absolutely necessary.

If anyone has experienced similar or has a clue what is happening here, I would be grateful hearing from you.

    See you soon

  • All my messages on my iPhone were mysteriously deleted after I restarted - is it possible to sync my old backup iPhone with my iMessages on my Mac?

    Hello!

This past weekend, I noticed that my Messages app acted strangely on my iPhone 6. Accordingly, I turned and turn it on again and noticed that all of my posts have disappeared. I then did a hard reset and turned on - still no messages.

I have my settings to keep my messages forever, what really saddened me to see all of my messages disappeared. In any case, I'm about to restore my backup iPhone on a new phone (6 s). Luckily, I backed up my phone the week last before my messages disappearing.

I understand that when I restore a backup, everything that happened on my phone since will not appear. However, I have also the Messages on my MacBook Air app, when kept all my messages before and after the mysterious disappearance on my phone. Once I have perform this restore, I was wondering if it is possible to synchronize in any post-restore on my laptop to my phone messages.

    Thank you!

    Hi masizh,

Congratulations on your new iPhone 6 s! I understand that you want to synchronize the restoration of post messages on your Mac Messages app to your iPhone 6 s. If these are the iMessages, your new device needs to load the entire conversation once you send or receive an iMessage from the recipient. SMS messages may not work in the same way, however, you can contact your operator for support with text messages.

To continue to have your Mac with your iPhone SMS sync, don't forget to implement continuity with your new device.

If you have an iPhone, the SMS that you send and receive on your iPhone may appear on your Mac, iPad, and iPod touch as well. You can then continue the conversation from any device is closer to you.

Set up SMS and MMS messaging

Use this feature with any Mac, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that satisfies the requirements of continuity system. Make sure that your devices are configured as follows:

    • Each device is connected to iCloud with the same Apple ID.
    • On iPhone, go to settings > Messages > Send and receive. Make sure the Apple ID at the top of the screen is the same Apple ID you use for iMessage on other devices. Add a check to your address, phone number, so that you can be reached by both iMessage. Do the same on your iPad or iPod touch.
    • On iPhone, go to settings > Messages > transfer, text messages, then choose which devices to send and receive text messages from the iPhone. A verification code and then on each device. Enter this code on your iPhone.
    • On Mac, open Messages, and then choose message > Preferences. Click accounts, and then select your account from iMessage. Make sure the Apple ID shown here is the same Apple ID you use on other devices. Add a control to your phone number and email address.

Use the SMS and MMS messaging

To use this feature, simply start conversations as usual in the Messages application on any of your devices. Alternatively, you can start a conversation by clicking a phone number in Safari, Contacts, calendar, or other applications detecting phone numbers. All your incoming and outgoing messages on all your devices.

Please use the Apple Support communities to post your question. Enjoy your new iPhone!

  • I need to backup iphone on itunes if I use icloud

  • Should I the "intego personal backup" on my new drive of lace

Should I the "intego personal backup" on my new drive of lace? I just want to copy music than I do in my logic music program.

I would also like to know the best way to copy my music from my old lacie drive to my new. Thanks for your help!

The best way is to use Time Machine (installed natively with Mac OSX). Its as simple as turning on Time Machine via the Mac system preferences and selecting your new Lacie drive as backup destination.  Depending on what model of mac you have the thunderbolt peut port not to go to the "standby" and Lacie drive (or possibly any other drive connected by thunderbolt) will continue to run while you will need to keep "non-montage" (eject, not physically well). This 'non-montage' can be done via disk utility which is located by clicking on Launchpad.

To work around the small annoying problem is that you will need to use a USB connection which should put it off, but the transfer rate may be slower.

    Hi, Mr. flame.

    What is your operating system?

If you have been creating full backups, the backup only that you keep is the last.

  • Backup on external hard drive problems...

I can't backup to external hard drive, it starts and does not say "Device not ready" then I tried to back up my laptop outside even hard without any problem. Could it be, if I tried a different USB port on my desktop external hard disk... Any other ideas please...

    Concerning

Have you tried another USB port (your post is unclear)?

The external hard drive has its own power supply or just connect with a USB cable?  If there is no separate power supply, disconnect all other USB devices (except keyboard and mouse) and see if that helps.

The external drive shows in my computer?  If so, what happens when you double-click it?

Don't show external drive in disk management (start > run > diskmgmt.msc > OK)?  If so, a drive letter is assigned? If so, what is reported to the layout, Type, file system and status?

Only the external drive shows in Device Manager (start > run > devmgmt.msc > OK) to the title of "hard disks"?  If Yes, what is displayed when you double-click on and look at 'Device status' and 'Use of the device' in the general tab?
