Very weak sides of Microsoft Security Essentials in some magazines

Once more, ComputerActive Magazine in the United Kingdom denounces MSE and it shows that the number one Microsoft program, YOU MUST UNINSTALL (number 427 July 9-22, 2014).  Apparently during tests, by their own colleagues in Dennis Technology Labs, it "came down in the last anti-virus tests' and he ' not you will protect against the virus.

I've been using MSE for about 2 years with Malwarebytes and have not yet been infected by a virus.  I have everything just lucky, or MSE is as bad as this magazine seems to think?  I tried Avast, which I find too intrusive, and continues AVG who needs an annual update to the latest version, and MSE is just what I need to find.  As long as I regularly update the database and do a Quick Scan weekly, all seems to be fine, with no nagging program.

What is - this with this magazine?  They were an afterthought any?

  • Is Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus enough for a computer?

is microsoft antivirus esstional enough for a computer?

    Hello

Here's what I use and recommend: (these are all free and very effective versions.)

Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with all I have
launched on them. Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven to be very
reliable and compatible. Use MSE or Avast and Prevx, Prevx 3 but not all.

Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except leaving Standard, Web, and
    Operation of the network.

    Prevx - Home - free

    Windows Firewall

Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)

    Protected IE - mode

IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)

I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(It may temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom
    right of IE)

Two versions of Avast are available 6.x and 4.8 x

Avast - home - free - 6.x stop shields you do not use (except files, Web, network, &)
Shields of behavior) - double click on the icon in the Notification area - real time Orange - click on the
Shield that you want to stop - STOP. To stop the Orange icon to show an error indicator-
Click on the Orange icon - top right - settings - click on the status bar - uncheck shields you
    disabled - click OK
    http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

Avast 4.8 x - home - free - stop shields, you don't need except leaving Standard, Web,.
and the network running. (Double-click the blue icon - look OK. - upper left - Shields details
    Finish those you don't use).
    http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download#TAB4

Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast

Prevx - home - free small, fast, exceptional protection CLOUD, working with other security
programs. It is a single scanner, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something come back here
or use Google to see how to remove.

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever think malware and that
would be unusual with Avast and occasional Prevx running with the exception of a low level cookie
(not much), to UPDATE and then run it as a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they
never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.

Well, you're on the Internet now. :-)

Seriously, use a PC working group and download everything you need on one of these USB flash (thumb) drives, which you will then be connected to your sick PC.
    EDIT:
Follow the instructions VERY CAREFULLY in this guide:
  • Microsoft Security Essentials replaces Windows Defender and what is the difference?

Microsoft Security Essentials has a download of much larger definitions (45 MB) Windows Defender (about 13 MB). That means more MSE WD do? The current definitions of MSE download contains the same version of engine 1.1.5502.0 as the current update of WD. How about a link to MS site to learn what MSE; In addition, compared to the WD curiously enough, can not find such a link on the MSE sites.

  • Update (error code 80070103) Windows Update fails & Microsoft Security Essentials does not install (error code 0 x 80070643)

I keep trying to update and all these errors reappear. I can't install Microsoft Security Essentials and any update of Windows. I tried to do system Recoery by pressing F11 after reboot, and it does not work either.  I'm guessing that something might be wrong with the registry or there is a virus but I am not a computer wiz. I don't have the Vista recovery disc and the original disk to restart.  is it possible to fix this?

I paid to get it to format in November 2010... I installed a fake Windows Vista on it (32 bits but my PC on a 64-bit password) so I had to clean install it.

I don't understand: If you paid someone to format the HARD drive and do a clean Windows, when install I YOU "installed a 32-bit Vista?"

If your parent friend had lost the Windows CD comes with the brand new computer, the person you paid use to do the clean install of Vista 64-bit?

    I do not see KB948465 in installed updates, only KB956250 & KB256506

I asked only KB948465. In any case, KB256506 is not an update or a section of the play.

No, I never had any other than Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus

Again, I don't understand. If you have never had any other antivirus MSE and MSE has been installed since November 2010, why you try to 'install Microsoft Security Essentials' now?

Q: which, if any, of these updates ARE LISTED in updates installed (no update history)?

What "number 3"? You see nothing else, in addition to the two updates to date?

  • Microsoft Visual C ++ Runtime Library linked to Microsoft Security Essentials real-time program

I started having problems a couple of weeks with my Microsoft Security Essentials. The program will start and say it could prove to be not on the real-time protection. This operation returned because the timeout period expired. When I click ok, I followed the instructions. Start services.msc, in search box type, then choose Microsoft Antimalware Service and make sure it is in automatic mode, then start the service. Sometimes it is and sometimes it still wouldn't start. Now, for a few days, when I'm trying to start windows, I get the following message: Microsoft Visual C ++ runtime library: this application has requested the execution in an unusual way. Please contact the team of management applications for more information. Once I get this message that I can't get beyond it. In fact, the only way I can boot into safe mode to remove the battery for a while and let it flow. If I didn't, then it starts to screen messages. Sometimes of safe mode, I'm able to turn on real protecion, shut down the computer, and it starts normally. Even if I have problems with MSE initially alone, 2 appear to be connected. As soon as the computer is put to sleep, breaks down on its own or stops that I'm back in power out of nowhere I had some restorations system. One who worked, the other has not, but no matter what I do, I can't keep the problem solved. Oh and when I tried to find information about Microsoft Visual... .the messages I read talked about the location displayed in this message. There is no location given when it happens on my computer. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your time.

A hard disk problem is preventing windows from starting, contact your computer manufacturer or system administrator to determine if you need repair or replace the disk... root cause found: bad hard drive.

Unfortunately, it seems that you have a bad hard drive. I suggest that you start by replacing it and re-install Windows.

  • I need to keep Windows Defender and Microsoft Security Essentials installed?

My question is, what do I need to keep Windows Defender installed too, or I can uninstall it.

I have Microsoft Security Essentials installed and it works fine. I am running Vista 64 bit with service PK. 2 and the Defender is installed under Vista. Before MSE I used Windows Live One Care until my subscription has expired and that they did not renew it. At that point, I finally installed MSE. Windows defender can be uninstalled? It seems to be an unnecessary element in my Security Center.

    Hello

    No it can't be uninstalled

It is part of the vista operating system

by default must disable MSE, it

    If for any reason any MSE has not disabled it read this;

read the information on the below link on how to disable the windows defender service in vista or make an autostart to enable

    http://www.groovypost.com/HOWTO/Microsoft/Vista/disable-Windows-Defender-service-in-Windows-Server-2008-or-Vista/

and here is the method to remove it from startup in vista

    http://www.groovypost.com/HOWTO/Microsoft/Vista/remove-Windows-Defender-from-Vista-system-startup/

and this is how you would normally activate or disable windows defender in vista from within defenders of own and options tools

    http://www.groovypost.com/HOWTO/Microsoft/Vista/disable-Windows-Defender-for-Microsoft-Vista/

and this is a very good Anti-Malware/spyware program to use in place of Defender

an anti-virus can not find any problems

you need to scan with a good anti-malware program

Download update and scan with the free malwarebytes anti-malware version

  • Should I Norton and Microsoft Security Essentials Virus protection?

I downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials for a long time; but I keep getting popup windows telling me that they cannot provide protection against viruses because they did not have a virus to day something - or - others.

Two windows appear, one after the other, both have an error number. If I followed the instructions I always come back to a selection of Norton anti packages of virus which must be repaid, which I don't want. That's why I installed Microsoft Security Essentials, because I was sick of seeing these things and try to follow the instructions always with the same results.

Recently, I clicked on something in laptops and has seen a long list of time that requests had been made by Norton get me their updates - it was very very long.

I don't know what it is all about - what it means? I find it more than an irritation. These pop-ups will light up whenever I start the computer. Can I stop this?  Do I have Norton and Microsoft - I realized that any previous protection system would be obsolete when I downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials.

    Hello

    NO.

You must have AN antivirus installed

  • Microsoft Security Essentials re: Avanquest registry Utilities Professional

In February 2010, I installed registry Utilities Professional of Avanquest ("ORS").  I used it every week since that time without difficulty.

In June 2010, I installed Microsoft Security Essentials ("MMS") and in the initial round, the only recommendation was uninstall PRU which I agreed to.

He did uninstall the desktop icon that I previously used to manually run the ORS; However, in programs and features, the outermost Regions and a "Compatibility Patch" ORS are still reported.

    Issues related to the:

    1. Why does want MSE uninstall ORS?
    2. Are there known issues with RUP?
    3. If RUP is a registry self cleaner, how I now access and reinstall the desktop icon?

My OS is Windows Vista Edition Home Premium, version 6.0.6002.2.2.0.768.3

    This is * not * a legitimate registry cleaner, because there isn't * n *.
    legitimate registry cleaners.

Registry cleaning programs are * all * snake oil. Cleaning of the
registration is not necessary and is dangerous. Let alone register and
do not use any registry cleaner. Despite what many people think, and
What software record cleaning suppliers are trying to convince you,
have unused registry entries is not really make you hurt.

The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner by mistake
delete an entry you need is much greater than any potential benefit
    It can have.

    Read http://www.edbott.com/weblog/archives/000643.html

    And also

Let me stress that neither me nor anyone else who warns the
use of registry cleaners never said that they always cause
problems. If they have always caused problems, they would disappear from
the market almost immediately. Many people have used a registry
cleaner and never had a problem with it.

The problem with a registry cleaner is that it carries with it
important * risk * to have a problem. And since there is no
benefits of using a registry cleaner, running that risk is a very bad
    good deal.

I just downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials. Now, I get my Firewall is not on Windows messages.

Question 1: What is Microsoft Security Essentials has a firewall? If so, then I know that I don't need the Windows Firewall.

Question 2: if not, then I have another problem. I tried to activate Windows Firewall and got a message saying that the Firewall Service cannot be turned on. Why do I get this message?

Microsoft Security Essentials NOT came with the firewall, you can use the Windows Firewall in your firewall. You must use the Windows Firewall.

For the error on the Windows Firewall, take a look on:

In this article, you may need to change a registry value, very careful when you do this. I suggest to backup registry before trying to solve.
