Video driver update for NVidia GeForce GTX 660 M on Alienware M17x R4

I am owner of Alienware M17x R4 with GeForce 660 M graphics. The latest drivers for my system currently 307.17 on the Support of Dell Web site version. Recently I met some graphical problems during the game and the people from the Steam forums advised me to update my video drivers.

So the question is: can I use the video drivers supplied by NVidia on their Web site? Are there disadvantages using these?

Thank you!

Hello!

We recommend that you use the drivers from the Dell Support Web site, but if you want to upgrade to the latest NVIDIA driver I suggest you only do a fresh install of the driver as explained here.

If you continue to experience problems during the game, try the troubleshooting steps in this article.

Let me know how it goes!

  • Alienware M17X R4 - Nvidia Geforce GTX 660 M is dead

I was playing a game and poof... the computer off.  I rebooted and I was 800 x 600.  The computer works fine now, but it does not recognize my Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 M.  So I think he's dead.

I tried everything (drivers, BIOS, troubleshooting, waiting to see if she magically came back).  Nothing has worked.

I need to buy a replacement, but online is incomplete and a computer guy said only he could do was to China and would take at least two weeks.

    Reference Dell sells this replacement?

For the record, the system is out of warranty.

This is a good opportunity to upgrade you GPU at a GTX680 or if your confident enough to small drivers mods then a GTX780.

Dell will tell you the GTX780 is 'not validated for this system.

Their significance is they have refused to release the machine and identification of GPU NVIDIA and AMD codes so when the pilot checks "compatible devices" are back with a negative.

Easily fixed by modding the display driver to include your machine and GPU identification codes.

NVIDIA provides drivers for laptop graphics cards.  They leave this task up to the OEM.  If you want to try the new Nvidia drivers, laptopvideo2go.com has a few guides and how to install the most recent drivers on laptops such as yours.  I suggest trying some news to see if those to improve your display rate, that HP may have updated Nvidia drivers listed on their website.

    See you soon,.

  • Update for NVIDIA GeForce 73000 HIM continually fails Code 800 70103. ???

Just found out that this update has not everyday for the last two months. Don't know the problem and do not know the solution. Any help?

    -the new driver update fails

do you have the right driver?

do you have the portable version or the Office?

    -------------------

the portable version is for laptops

the desktop version is for normal computers

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can return to your previous version of the driver that worked perfectly

Open Device Manager "find it in the search bar to the start menu."

    Open the Device Manager

under the tree "graphics cards", you will find your video card

Double click on it and click on the tab "driver" which is located at the top of the driver properties window

Click on the button "roll back driver", and he will restore your previous driver

You must report your problem to Nvidia in order to work on the problem and prevent it from occurring in the next driver updates

  • more recent good video driver updates for M4600 with ATI M5950 video card

My hard drive has failed recently and I had to reinstall from scratch. I used it for a few months now without other problems.

Currently, I am having a problem where a program (formZ) modeling in 3d displays wired but no polys in its modes of rendering opengl. I had this problem in July 2014 and it is resolved by updating my drivers which was available on the website of dell at this time. I have also some odd polys displaced and shadow flicker in sketchup which I didn't have before.

According to me, it's my drivers, but the most recent driver available for the m5950 on the m4600 has 'changed' in October 2013 and when I install it, the problem is not resolved.

Someone at - it a newer driver that 8.850.7.8000 (as of 12/19/2011)?

    Well yes that suits him.

Although not quite, the link that you sent me was for certifications of driver for specific programs and some video cards, not including mine. However, I could find what I needed on the site of AMD:

  • Can I install a Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 in my HP laptop?

Hi I was wondering if I could install a new graphics card in my HP laptop? My laptop is a HP 15-d051sa 15.6 "so you can search to the top on Google.

    My specs:

    RAM: 8 GB

    HARD DRIVE: 1 TB

    Processor: Intel (r) Pentium (r) CPU N3510 2 GHz (cache 2 MB)

    Graphics card: Intel HD Graphics

I think they have all the features that I need to talk to you guys to help me.

    -Zack thanks.

No, it can't be done. The video system is part of the motherboard and cannot be changed. Even if you have to change for the best HP 15 motherboard it has much less powerful than the 660 GTX graphics and motherboard Exchange would cost as much as the laptop did initially.

You have the R1. The R2 does not comes with the i3-3220. You may not use any video card that uses more on our 330w power 150w. The video card must not be greater than 9.5 "x 4.3". I can't recommend the Dell OEM = video cards

The message I get from the Device Manager is:

    What should do?

    Success in the end.

Use a PNY program to check the graphics card, it was concluded that the material was OK.

So it was very probably the Device Manager or the operating system, which have been unable to detect the graphics card properly and read its hardware ID.

After reinstalling Windows Vista, PCI-e by selecting view adapter in the Bios setup, all went well.
The card has been recognized, the driver has been installed and everything works as it should.

  • Video card GeForce GTX 660 not detected by the motherboard Windows 7

I recently upgraded my PC with an Asus z97 - a motherboard and processor Intel i5 4. After the reinstallation of Windows 7, I was able to get a signal from my video card 660 geforce gtx for a few hours. After Windows install several updates, however, I am unable to use my video card without receiving an ENTRY NOT FOUND both of my monitors. My video card is also not appearing in Manager devices, or BIOS and use rather Intel HD Graphics. Cause of the undetected video card, I am unable to install the latest drivers for my card and I have no idea what to try next. I also made sure my current diet provides enough power for the card. Is powered without a doubt the map because the fans spinning, I'm positive that I've attached all required power cables, and the card is inserted completely into the motherboard. I tried all PCI-E ports in my motherboard, but it continues to not display. I tried to install the drivers manually, but the video card should be detected before this is possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    My specs:

    ASUS card mother Z97 - A

    Videocard GeForce GTX 660

    Intel i5 processor 4

    8 GB RAM

    700W ATX power supply

I should point out that I have tried almost every technical troubleshooting that I have met, with the exception of disabling Intel HD Graphics. I fear that if, due to there not being any trace of my video card in the BIOS and Device Manager, if I disable this will also lose signal from the motherboard of DVI and HDMI, ports that are what I currently use.

    Hello

As the graphics card is not detected by the motherboard, you will need to contact Asus for more help on this issue. You will need to check if the graphics card is detected in the BIOS or not, if not then contact the computer manufacturer is the right point of support.
