View of VM, linked Clones and Thinapp to a group of users?

In our configuration of the display, I have a pool of 80 people, some users have asked MS Visio.

I created a package of visio and wanted to deploy to a group of users, but I can only assign to a pool.

Is it possible so I can assign MS Visio only to a certain (AD) Group of people without having to create an additional pool?

For another application, I use the security feature in the application thinapped, which do not allow users to start the program and again reports an error message. It does not work with visio propperly: a user with visio can open files visio very well with the editor, a user without visio should get the (internet Explorer) visio Viewer, but the application is launched instead (which restores the safety message and the user cannot view the visio file).

In theory if you added it to a pool only people within the security group would be able to access.   You can also use a login script register which means that it could only be saved for those who can visit his profile.    See the link below for example sript login.

  • Problems with. OST file and view 5.0 Linked Clones

    Hello world

I have a 5.0 view installation in my environment and am currently using only dedicated related clones. I use management Persona to display instead of disks, persistent and plan to stick with this configuration. The problem I see with the few users we currently using pools, is that sometimes (and I don't know immediately the cause) when the user opens their Outlook 2010, they get a message from outlook using an older version of their. OST file and they should remove the current on and outlook it will rebuild at the next opening. We redirect the AppData folder to their character in the hope that the mail will stay with them through the log offs, restarts, redials, etc.. Everything in this aspect seems to work except in those circumstances where it appears that the. OST file is broken.

Y at - it an idea what could be causing this or another way to put in place to make it work? Thanks for your suggestions.esx

We had this same problem.  The conclusion we came to was that when the. OST file is large, view Persona management cannot move this file down from the server of persona in computer display to the user in a timely.  Outlook has finally times out waiting for the file to copy and gives you the error.  The solution arrived at was to use Microsoft Folder redirection for these records.  This gives users instant access to their OST files and fixed the problem of the copy of the data.  What we did was to create a new action on the character called roaming server containing these data roaming.  It takes no less or no matter what more space than persona management and provides the same utility without interrupting the other actions ensuring the management of the persona. Adm files already exist on your server to connect to C:\Program View\Server\extras\GroupPolicyFiles from VMware and I have attached a copy of what looks like one of our GPO.

  • Problem with the floating linked clones and Persona

    Hello

    We run a build view Horizon 6.2.0 - 3005368.

Just improved our VMware environment to 6.2 and installing an APEX 2800 PCoIP card on our guests.

I had a pool of office dedicated clone bound for users.

Now, I made a new image of master and made a new Automated Desktop Pool pool who are floating clone related.

With the dedicated bound vmis, we place disc profiles of users etc are located.

With the new pool, I'll use Persona. I followed this guide - http://terenceluk.blogspot.no/2012/10/configuring-roaming-profiles-with.html?showComment=1445933020356 and it works very well indeed, almost.

For users of a trial, I can see that if something I save it to the desktop, it will be saved on the server of file \\fileserver\redirected$\%username%\Desktop

When I use my user and try to even something on the desktop - it c:\%username%\Desktop

I tried to reset, remove my user etc., but it's not. All the settings I made in the GPO - Computer Configuration-> administration-> classic administrative templates (ADM) models-> Configuration of the VMware View Agent-> Persona

    Management-> Folder Redirection

But my users settings are only "local".

    How is it?

This can be caused by an incorrect action or NTFS permissions on the redirection of folder/persona.

  • Linked Clones and snapshots - which can be removed and when?

    Hello

Sorry if this is a stupid question. I'm new to the linked clones.

I was able to create clones related win2k8r2 invited.  Everything seems to work ok.  However, once a linked clone is created, is it still necessary to keep the parent snapshot?  That is to say, snapshot of the parent is necessary after related cloning?

    My env:

    VMware ESXi 4.1.0 build-433742

    VMware vSphere PowerCLI 4.1 build 332441 U1

    Thank you

    T

It must be remembered that a clone is based on the parent machine and a snapshot that you see in the server view.  Multiple snapshots can be consolidated or "rolled up", but depends on the clone.  The parent can put off when the do not need to save on resources in your environment, because that's what the replica is for.  I do not agree with Andre and suggest that you keep the snapshot that you clones are configured to use, with the exception on the consolidation of old clichés.

  • Persistent change of drive - Shrink space view 4.6 linked Clones

So in the deployment of our linked clones with persistent data records I have initially affect the size of 10 GB just to be sure that there is enough space. Now that our users files are all migrated to the new system, a user most use is like 1 GB because most of the files are stored on the network. Is it possible that I can reduce their "D" drives without having to start from scratch? I went into the admin to view > pools > edit and modify the disk size 5GB but neither refresh or re - dial did the trick. Suggestions or places I should look at for more information.

    See 4.6

Yes, but if they're thin disc and only using 1 GB of space, then it should be only 1 GB in size.   Except of course the migration it boosted to 10 GB and then he went back up to 1 GB.    In the typical thin disk configurations (server) the only way to recover is to run something like sdelete inside the disk and then use storage vmotion to reduce it.

  • Linked Clones and SCSI controller

I created an automated linked clone pool that points to a virtual machine Windows XP parent. I used the parallel LSI Logic Controller and the value of the SCSI disk (0:0). Please perform following steps.

    -----------------------------------------

    • Create a new virtual machine with custom SCSI controller. (Keep floppy drive configuration)
    • Extract the downloaded driver symmpi_wXP_1201800.zip (version 1.28.03)
    • The driver disk image can be by editing the VM, floppy.
    • Start the installation of Windows XP, press F6 when request and then point to the driver on the floppy drive
    • Continue and finish the installation.
    • Now to use this virtual machine as a VM parent, and it should solve your problem
  • On vSphere Linked Clone and Lab Manager 4

    Hello

In the Lab Manager Installation and Upgrade guide, there is a sentence saying: "Lab Manager is not compatible VMware Fault Tolerance (FT) or clones linked vSphere.".

My question is: "what is a vSphere Linked Clone? Is is distinguished by a Clone of VMware? Because as far as I am concerned, the linked cloning technology came from Lab Manager right?

    Thank you!

Welcoem to the Forums - Yes TI a vSphere Linked Clone is different from that in Lab Manager Linked Clone but unserlying technology is the same - the difference is whtechnology manages the linked clone - vSphere is handled only by the vSphere environment while a cloned associated Lab Manager is managed by you are your Lab Manager environment.

  • Linked clones and several subnets / VLAN

    Hey all,.

In an environment with thousands of VMS, there at - it a better practical method to deal with the fact that some of the clones will be on different subnets or VLANS?

For example, imagine 500 clients need to be on a separate network other clones.

    • Creation of another master VM model would cause more costs general administrative (maintenance of multiple masters)
    • Manually move the special 500 VMS to their own network would be ok, but it would be lost during a refresh/rebuild because the master is always on the main network.

From what I've read so far, the best thing to do is a powershell script to change the special virtual machine VIRTUAL LAN after each refresh/redial.

I wanted to ask you, if there was a best practice for this problem in large environments.

    Thank you
    Drew

I think that it is an area where the view really fails and should probably be a feature request for future versions.   I didn't know the established practice of the best, but I would probably lean towards the powershell script to make the changes as the easiest to maintain and operate.

I'm mobile torwards a deployment of Thin Clients using the Wyse P20 and View 4 and I was wondering if anyone has had experience using the linked clone and Altiris Agent Office pool?  If this is not the case, what practices of patching are used?

What practices of patching are used?

If you use linked clone you way the main image, not the desktop images.

Power on the mask, path, clipping, create a new snapshot.

Then (with View Manager Administration) redial your pool with the new snapshot.

  • Best way to rebalance local drives with linked clones?

    Hello

    • 5.2 seen running, looking to update soon.
    • We use local storage (FusionIO).
    • Each pool is distributed over 4 servers running these local storage.
    • Our related clones are not persistent - users do not get a specific office, and workstations are deleted on logout.

So, I want to patch servers.

    My thought on this is:

    1. Edit the pool to remove local storage on the server to be patched.
    2. Rebalance.
    3. Perform the update (mode maintenance, blah blah blah).

So the rebalance operation is having limited success in my first try

I am aware of that: VMware View 5.2 Documentation Library : you cannot balance the load of the virtual machines on a pool of resources. For example, does not allow the operation of rebalancing View Composer with linked clones that are stored in local warehouses of data.

So I can't rebalance (first of all, I'm not sure why? In my case, cannot not machines just be deleted and recreated elsewhere - whereas a rebalancing is also a refresh anyway)?

    What is the best approach?

    • I need to make desktop computers available to local specific server storage exist anymore (once there are multiple sources available on another server storage) so that users don't connect/don't have not logged when I do the maintenance.
    • I need to make sure that desktop computers connected to local specific server storage are removed on logout (as usual) and does not get recreated on this storage again.

Of course, when the server comes back to the top, I need to reverse the process and get the desktop on it and maintain a balance between other servers.

    Any advice?

    Thanks in advance.

Rebalancing is not a simple delete and action of re - create. Even the workstations are not persistent, there are persistent records associated with it. as (internal drive)

These door data as approval of the membership of domain and all. Therefore, without a shared, preserving data store and the migration of this internal drive are impossible (and prevented).

Now for you case, because she is floating desktop computers (non - persistent).

    1. Deselect the host data store to be corrected by changing the pool.
    2. Logoff of active sessions (if any) for VMS specific / put the virtual machine in maintenance mode.
    3. Delete these specific through VMs * Administrator display inventory pool *.
    4. Configure back the technical provision of data after having patched host store,
    5. And then increase the size of the pool the desired number
  • Best practice help to spend again vCenter with linked Clones

    Hello everyone

I searched for days, but couldn't find a way clear of hover over our view 5.2 installation of a new vCenter.  The equipment was aging, and we decided to upgrade and move to 5.5.

We have rebuilt and forwarded via our guests not VDI to the new vCenter 5.5 environment. I found a few documents, but nothing that tells us if it can be done actually.

We tried to go in the service of the composer initially to the new instance of vCenter and maintenance, we do the DB on the old Victoria Cross, if it worked I émigrerait the DB above the new Victoria Cross

We first tried these steps however VMware Documentation Library after removing the old VC service composer and installed on VC New (with ODBC connections mapped to the old VC) it wouldn't work.  We were moving to the VC 5.1 leaving guests ESXi running VDI attached to 5.1

Then I did more research and discovered the related clones are all related to the database of the old VC and moving them is not possible per this KB KB VMware: workstations managed by moving between servers view vCenter is not supported

I saw an article here that suggested dumping a bunch of DB and rebuild the new VC with the same name and IP address, but I can't do so because the new instance is already upwards and on a new host name / IP migrate view VCenter (with linked Clones) to new hardware

I also found this where someone is in the same boat and suggested to recreate pools.  The discussion is not in the details so I wonder if someone can clarify this: migration View Composer and vCenter

I have about 20 people on VDI in a combination of clones using 3 connected pools and personal drives.  Given that all the info from linked clone was linked to the former base of VC, it doesn't seem wise to move it to the wire.  This would be possible: I still have the base image with all the snapshots for each pool.

    • Persistent backup drives
    • Note the configuration of each pool
    • Disable the commissioning
    • Create DB on VC 55 composer vacuum
    • Create the ODBC connection for composer on VC 55
    • **
    • Do more ESXi hosts to 55 VC
    • Remove existing VMs (will be not able to connect to them at this point anyway)
    • Remove the old VC entry admin view / delete existing pools
    • Install the composer on 55, and then tap new ODBC
    • Create new instance vCenter in Admin 55-pointing mode
    • Recreate pools
    • Import and attach persistent disks (http://pubs.vmware.com/view-50/index.jsp?topic=/com.vmware.view.administration.doc/GUID-BDFCCEC8-682F-4421-8810-06108CBE8D20.html)
    • Recreate events empty DB on 55
    • Reconfigure the parameter DB events in Admin mode

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I can't find an exact way to do

Well, I'm pleased to say it worked! I had a few problems by removing existing pools. View repeated deletion but nothing happened. In the end I had to use ADSIedit to connect to the server to manually remove all the old discs VM and pool

After the installation of the composer on the VC 5.5, I was able to create a login in admin mode and then start to re - create the pools.

We were able to successfully reattach each disc persistent owners planned.  Did some spot checks and desktop users, bookmarks etc. all worked

It is a tedious process, but it does not work. I hope that VMware can create an article for it.  God knows that I searched for days, I had to read a lot of things just for this plan.

  • Cannot expand the hard drive of a virtual computer that is a linked clone.

I have a virtual machine that is a linked another clone.

I did a lot of development and changes to the linked clone, and now ran out of disk space.

Now I want to extend the drive, but I get this error:

"Disks of virtual machines that are linked clones cannot be extended.

So I then try to extend the drive of the virtual machine that he was cloned from:

"Disks of VMS with snapshots cannot be extended. You must delete the snapshots or use VMWare vcenter converter. »

What can I do? If I remove the snapshots of the original machine, do not lose the 'link' to the linked clone? What he suggested that I use the "VMWare vcenter converter" for?

    Does anyone have a solution?

    Kind regards

Create a complete clone of the virtual machine in the current state. Which can be extended.
