VIrtual Center unavailable - effects on Virtual Machines?

We have a virtual Center 2.5 server that is installed on a virtual machine on one of our ESX servers. This virtual Center Server is down for maintenance patch (only windows security updates)

I would like to know the effects it would have on the other virtual machines in the same cluster managed by this virtual server Center. I expect to continue to run and be able to communicate with them via the VI Client on the ESX Server.

I know that the following implications are valid: (obviously I won't be able to manage virtual machines through VC during shutdown)

(1) there will be no (vmotion) failover during shutdown

(2) there will be no HA or DRS during shutdown

(3) there will be no statement during the blackout

(4) while the configuration changes will not be saved in the database of VIrtual Center.

Are there other effects on the virtual machine that I should be aware of?

NIC,

(1) there will be no (vmotion) failover during shutdown

HA does not vMootion, it starts a new instance of the VM (it's a recovery, not a migration)

(2) there will be no HA or DRS during shutdown

The VC is only necessary to configure HA - aam service is installed don as the hosts and guests continues to monitor each other etc, even if the VC disappears.

In addition, you might even get the Victoria Cross to recover on another host, using HA.

(3) there will be no statement during the blackout

Guests continue to generate newspapers, but of course, no specific newspaper VC will be generated as the VC is not running.

(4) while the configuration changes will not be saved in the database of VIrtual Center.

Config changes on hosts will be updated as soon as the VC connects to the host

Are there other effects on the virtual machine that I should be aware of?

You will lose only functions that REQUIRE VC - IE of vMotion etc.

    I disabled the JOB BE general relativity.

  • Orchestrator 5.1 REPORT-all the virtual machines in the data center and create a CSV file

    Hello

    What I basically want to do is create a report CSV of all virtual machines in the data center with various information (VMname, domain name FULL, IPaddress, status, data warehouses, tools etc...).  The export list in the client feature is insufficient (especially for any KPI report).

    Problem: (workflow is still under construction so real email send does not not and need to clean the code)

    I am stuck at the part of the creation of a table that can be parsed correctly in the CSV file.  2 ways I've tried will produce a report of single object or combine all of the table into a single string (where I am now).  I think the main problem I have is that I have to create a 2D within my service to push toward the final table that is written to the CSV format.  Basically, I do not understand how to push my variables in a loop of a table.

    Any help or assistance?

    Thank you

    BOOM!

    Added some comments, removed the hardcoded in the csv temp file, deleted path the hardcoded port 25 for SMTP - mail settings should come from the configuration of the MAIL plug-in. And fixed / confirmed that the workflow now includes the attachment for e-mail and ends with success!

  • The most effective way to retrieve a number of virtual machines in an org?

    Hi all, what is the most effective way to retrieve a MV of County in an org. I am currently recovering all CDV in an org, then all the vApps, then all of the virtual machines and pushing them into a table, then do a vms.length on the table filled by all virtual machines.

    It takes a horrible time, and there MUST be a better way.

    Open to any suggestion. Thank you

    Good, as administrator of the organization then: (I have not tried as a normal user account)

    var vdcs = new Array();
    var orgVMCount = 0;
    var vcdHost = org.getHost();

    var queryService = vcdHost.getQueryService();
    var expression = new VclExpression(VclQueryOrgVdcField.ORGNAME, org.name, VclExpressionType.EQUALS);
    var filter = new VclFilter(expression);
    var params = new VclQueryParams();
    params.setFilter(filter);

    var resultSet = queryService.queryRecords(VclQueryRecordType.ORGVDC,params);
    while (resultSet != null) {

        var records = resultSet.getRecords(new VclQueryResultOrgVdcRecord);
        for each (var record in records) {
            var vdcVMCount = getVdcVMCount(record.href, vcdHost);
            System.log("VDC "+record.name+" VM Count: "+vdcVMCount);
        }
        orgVMCount += vdcVMCount;
        resultSet = resultSet.getNextPage();
    }
    System.log("Total Organization VM Count: "+ orgVMCount);

    function getVdcVMCount(vdcHref, host){
        var vmCount = 0;

        var qs = host.getQueryService();
        var exp = new VclExpression(VclQueryVMField.VDC, vdcHref, VclExpressionType.EQUALS);
        var exp2 = new VclExpression(VclQueryVMField.ISVAPPTEMPLATE, false, VclExpressionType.EQUALS);
        var exps = new Array(exp,exp2);

        var expFilter = new VclFilter(exps,VclFilterType.AND);
        var queryParams = new VclQueryParams();
        var vmArray = new Array();
        queryParams.setFilter(expFilter);
        var rs = qs.queryRecords(VclQueryRecordType.VM,queryParams);
        while (rs != null){
            var vmRecords = rs.getRecords(new VclQueryResultVMRecord);
            vmCount += vmRecords.length;
            rs = rs.getNextPage();
        }
        return vmCount;
    }

    It takes a little more code because the ".ORG" field is not available for the non-Admin queryVMField, but the. VDC IS, so we start by retrieving the TDC for the Org, then for each one, ask the number of vm for VDC.

  • How to record a custom message / event in the virtual center of the virtual machine

    Is it possible to record a personalized message in the virtual center of the VM?

    I use a vCLI script to reset a virtual machine. I want to report where (PC) this script is launched.

  • Accident of ESX 3.5 but virtual Center did not perform vMotion on virtual machines

    Hello

    We have 3 ESX servers on Virtual Center 2.5. One of the ESX Server suddenly restarted due to hardware failure. There were 5 virtual machines on this particular ESX host.

    When we check all the VMs who resided on the ESX host touched, he has just restarted and didn't vMotion for the rest ESX servers

    The question is why don't the vMotion VMs to the rest of the other servers. The rest of the ESX host have more than enough CPU and RAM to accommodate all 5VMs

    My understanding of vMotion would be when an ESX host is down, all the virtual machines will be migrated to other ESX hosts on the cluster.

    When an ESX host is down, the migration of all virtual machines to other ESX hosts in the cluster is not a VMotion functionality, but this is a feature of VMware HA. The vSphere availability Guide:

    "VMware HA offering high availability for virtual machines by pooling their and the hosts they reside on in a cluster." Cluster hosts are monitored and in case of failure, the virtual machines on a failed host are restarted on alternate hosts. »

    Therefore, enable HA of the cluster to achieve the desired result.

  • Virtual machine unavailable during the snapshot

    Hello

    I wanted to check with others to see how snapshots affect your virtual machines. I work in several small VMware environments and have seen similar effects when taken snapshots VMs.

    Today I made a SQL server (Windows 2K 8 running SQL 2008) fueling a sharepoint site. The snapshot lasted about 30 seconds and during this time, the sharepoint site was not available. In this case the ESX Server runs on a 1.5 3.5 years HP DL380 G5 with a HP MSA2324 G2 SAN on the back-end.

    After noticing the outtage service I tried taking a file & server snapshots print somewhere else, in this case running ESX 4.0 on a HP DL380 G6 with an EMC CX300 on the back-end. In this case, I also experienced a service outtage, I was unable to access file shares when the snapshot. In this case, the snapshot took a few minutes to complete, I guess it is because data drives are on 7.2 K disks. During the first minute of the snapshot I couldn't access the shares, once he got close to 100%, I was able to access file shares.

    In both scenarios, I only lost a ping, from the beginning of the snap. When deleting snapshots, I have not experienced any loss of service.

    Is this a normal experience or could it be caused by a misconfiguration or a lack of resources?

    Thank you

    I would have a look at the Snapshots of understanding . Depending on the options that you have chosen with your snapshot - suspend or memory from the operating system will freeze activity until the snapshot is completed. Also take a look at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/5962168

  • Virtual Center and Virtual Machines do feed not on after outage

    Hello-

    Over the weekend, we had a power outage in our data center which resulted in the loss of power to our HP blades that make up our ESX cluster.  Power was restored after a few minutes, and fed up ESX Server, VirtualCenter, which works as a virtual machine, does not, no has yet no virtual machines.

    Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might have happened?   For storage, we have an HP EVA SAN fiber.

    Any ideas are greatly appreciated-

  • Virtual Center stops all the virtual machines in a cluster HA

    Hello.

    I have a question about vCenter machine. We have deployed

    VMware ESX 4.0 HA cluster on Server Blade IBM 3. VCenter machine resides

    on a virtual machine on the same cluster. When we tried to recharge a physical switch (in the)

    IBM Blade Center), all our virtual machines on the cluster have been turned off automatically.

    If the vCenter VM is turned off, then everything is fine - the reloading of the

    Switch is not turning off the virtual machines (and the net is ok - start machines

    work through another switch in IBM bladecenter). If the machine vCenter

    powers (manually), all the other machines, which have been put off, are powered

    on too (automatically, of course, with the help of the machine of vCenter). How

    is that what I can adjust the machine vCenter, so it could not power power machines by

    itself automatically?

    ESX 4.0 (162856)

    Hello

    Right-click in your cluster, change the settings. Select 'Virtual Machine Options' under 'Vmware HA' and choose the host response of insulation desired for the entire cluster or individual VM. If you do not have network connections redundant between your ESX machines, you probably want the virtual machine for when you need to do maintenance or your network switch died. You should probably also disable HA while doing maintenance. You should consider to build network redundancy in the case of a production environment.

    I hope that helps!

  • Virtual Center running in a virtual machine

    Are there problems during the installation and execution of Virtual Center in a virtual machine?

    1. I have 4 r900

    2. I will install Virtual Center on a virtual hosted by a computer the first r900.

    3. create a cluster via Virtual Center that has been installed on the virtual machine residing on the

    first r900.

    4. I'll add the other 3 r900 to the cluster.

    5. Finally, I propose the r900 with the VM virtual Center in the cluster managed by this virtual machine.

    So my question what would be the impact on the VM virtual Center?

    Is this an acceptable solution?

    Hello

    I agree no problem, unless you have a problem on the host computer that contains your VC you have to be able to solve the problem of the esx console.
