• PIX and problem of virtual FTP hosts

  I have a Cisco PIX (version 6.3 (3)) behind which I have all my ISP customers. I have a web server outside the PIX hosting various web sites on an IP (virtual hosts). People outside the PIX can send via FTP on the web server without any problems. People inside the PIX cannot. We have this problem until I started using virtual servers on the server FTP and assignment of different FTP port numbers for each of the web sites. (We only had a single site on the web server until a few days ago.) I guess it's a problem of PIX because that's the only difference between access to the FTP server for my customers of the ISP with non. So, my question is that I have to open also the new FTP on my PIX port numbers? I already have "fixup protocol ftp 21". I should add similar statements for each of the new higher ports?   I assume by "higher port numbers" are the new ftp servers listening on ports other than the default port 21. If this is the case, then you are quite correct to say you need to add the correction commands more.

  The active way FTP works is that a control connection is established between the client and the server over tcp 21, and then they negotiate a data port. The * server * then initiates a connection to the customer on this port.

  Normally, this isn't a problem for the pix, because he looked at the control connection on port 21 and understood that it was necessary to open a hole for the connection on the new port, but if you do ftp on ports other than 21, you must specify the pix 'look' that port as a ftp control connection so it can then open the firewall for the data connection.

• Problems with CDM - Tracert displaying a line and connection with FTP problems

  I am currently in a class of networking and server, so am pretty new to this.  I'm running a virtual PC with Windows 7 Professional 32-bit and a few problems with my command prompt.  When I use the tracert command, any URL that I use, it returns only a single line.  It also does not matter whether I run it as administrator.  Here is an example of what it returns:

  I also have problems to connect to a server by using FTP.  The mission was to connect to the FTP server of NASA and practice to transfer images on.  I am able to connect, but as soon as I use the 'ls' command that I am, it will expire or say "connection closed by remote host". I encountered this same problem on my PC at home on a regular basis as well.  I used a computer friend, followed the exact same steps and it worked very well on his own. Here's what I saw:

• FTP problems with the linux ftp server

  I have a problem when trying to get a file via FTP. The FTP server is an embedded linux system, get the file manually via FTP is no problem, but to TestStand, I get the following error:

  Cannot download the file ' / opt/log/sislog.log'.
  Check if the local and remote path exists and is read and write respectively.

  The system does not have the specified path.

  error. I know that the file is there, the permissions are given. So I tried the other way around and tried to download a file called "mysislog.log" in that directory and download it again. I get the same error, but when I telnet to the LUX machine, I see that there is a file in this directory, but the file is called "\mysislog.log" - so I think backslash TestStand put the last bar in the name of the file and therefore impossible to load the file.

  Unfortunately, this is a known issue that will be fixed in a future version of TestStand (although I don't know what future version). The FTP step was designed for LabVIEW RT.

  The workaround is to call a code module that runs this ftp upload, possibly using a ftp software.

• Virtual memory problem?

  I run Vista 32 bit on a Dell laptop (Core 2 Duo T8300 2.40 GHz with 4 GB of RAM installed to)
  On a laptop earlier under XP, I have improved performance with virtual memory on a form different disk with the operating system.
  So, I tried to use the same option on my Vista laptop.

  I have the following problems / symptoms:

  (1) SearchIndexer.exe continously uses 50 to 70% of CPU (but it doesn't seem to be the disk activity hard anycontinueous)

  (2) Microsoft Outlook 2007 does not start. I just get the blue white screen with the yellow tone of Outlook 2007, and then he hangs up. One is to close to complete the process via the Task Manager
  The next time I try to start, it displays the option to start in safe mode. If I do, Outlook 2007 starts OK (I do not know what to do with Outlook in safe mode to correct things if :-()

  (3) IE8 starts and seems to operate normally (though slower). However, whenever I restart IE8 it displys the warning that IE8 last time ended abnormally and provides options to start with the last URL used either with normal start page

  Trying to catch exactly what I have done and in what order, I'm not really sure that Outlook was closed when I changed the location of the virtual memory to 100%.

  I know I probably screwed up a kind of grand, and I only hope that there is a way to get the thing corrected without having to reinstall everything from scratch.

  I tried to use this last system restore point, but the restoration doesn't go through, because of an unspecified problem.
  I ran the diagnostics Office option. Who reported no problems.

  It should not. In fact, I would recommend keeping the virtual memory (swap file) on the HDD main and just allowing advanced performance of the drive in the Device Manager.

  You can go to Device Manager, expand the category of 'Hard drives', right-click you primary hard drive > properties, click the 'Policies' tab and select 'Advanced Performance' at the bottom.

  The deactivation of the service should not affect your other programs unless they use the Windows Service of Indexer to search for things. As for example, Outlook uses the indexer to allow you to quickly search through your mail. The key word is quickly.   Many of our customers have achieved a Checkpoint FW-1/VPN-1 4.1 SP6 (the last before NG). When they try to connect to an FTP server that is located behind a Cisco PIX firewall, they are not able to transfer data: the connection is established, the authentication to follow, but at the stage of the 'LIST' the connection 'freeze' and the user must close the FTP client.

  Users are facing this problem ONLY in Active mode: passive mode works very well. Turn passive mode FTP client isn't acceptable workaround for most of my clients.

  The problem seems to be related only to the firewall Cisco PIX and active FTP.

  Please, what is someone encountered the same problem?

  Yes it is a (global) problem, even with the last checkpoint firewalls. What happens with Active FTP, it's that each command (get, list, etc.) causes another log on the client (source port) to the server on port 21. If you run netstat from the customer you can check this for yourself.

  What normally happens, with HTTP, FTP, telnet, which have are, it's that the client makes a connection to port 21, 23 etc then returns with a port source such as 1936, 1980, 3000, etc..

  Connect problem with statefull firewall is they do not allow multiple sessions control port number on a destination, as well as a source port can be bound to a destination port, in this case, 21 for FTP. I Don t see it changed, an extreme security risk any time soon, since it s, someone else might be hopping session and block this type of traffic, it's what the stateful firewall are all about and FTP servers are problably the machines more pirated on the planet.

  You´ve mentioned the workaround solution, unfortunately that s the only way, change your passive customers, I think that Unix/Linux customers have a problem with this, change your FTP server can also help, there are multiple servers that can be configured to disable Active FTP, I wouldn know exactly, I only network & firewall... maybe someone else can move on this...

• FTP problems and printer network in windows 7

  We use an FTP server based on linux to save MS Office files on it and the PC client are Windows XP and Win7 and use MS Office 2003 + 2007 + 2010.
  There no problem at all on XP based machines regardless of the version of MS Office to connect to the FTP.
  Also, there is no problem on Win7 machines using Office 2003.
  But there is the problem where we use Office 2007 or 2010 on a Win7 based machine.

  The problem is that the option ' add/modify Ftp location' never appears in MS Office applications. If we are able to add FTP through the card reader option, he is able to open the FTP files at very slow speed, but he never recorded any file on ftp after editing or having a few new files.

  I am trying to download a 'coming soon' page for a customer, riding too one existing site, she (build in Muse). I tried the download with no public_html folder nothing helps. Downloading the files and I don't get any errors, but its existing site is still there. When I asked the designer of the current site for help, she responded with this, and I have no idea where to start!

  If you are using the latest version of Adobe Muse, and you have the third-party widget in your Muse, chances are that some of your widgets are not compabtible to the latest version. It's one of the reasons why your page is empty.

  now, I had a problem at least 3 times, and perhaps more, but I have lost track.

  I'm a bit late to this discussion. First of all, thank you for providing the context about your file and workflow. It is always useful to understand the impact of different decisions in terms of real-world workflow.

  The code is currently being implemented as you describe. If a download fails after you change some of the files on the server, then the next download will download all the files.

  During the Muse download generates a file named muse_manifest.xml. This file contains a list of all the files on the site as well as a "fingerprint" for each file. When a new download is made Muse grabs the file muse_manifest.xml on the server and checks the fingerprint for each newly created file against what is in the manifest file to determine whether or not the new file should be downloaded. If any file must be changed, then the existing muse_manifest.xml is removed from the server. Once the download is complete the last file which is downloaded/written is the new muse_manifest.xml.

  Although we are talking internally about how we could change this operation to better meet the needs of huge sites on slow network connections download, here a thought about how you could protect against the re-upload everything. Before you start each download Muse, use Filezilla to download the muse_manifest.xml from your site. (It's originally with the index.html file). If the FTP of Muse download is interrupted, use Filezilla to the muse_manifest.xml you copied in the back upward on the server. Which will cause the Muse of repeat the partial download. The download includes the files that have been downloaded before the previous download process was interrupted, but it will avoid Muse re - download everything.

• Impression of virtual machine problem

  I just started a problem printing my virtual machine running Win 7. I have the merger to 5.0.5. My Epson XP-810 printer is connected to my home network and I was able to print very well through the past of my Mac without problem for several months. Now when I print from the vm everthing is scaling down to about 50% size (the printed page thumbnail appears in the center of the sheet). If I print from my Mac or on the network through my phone, it seems. Any suggestions to solve this?

  I solved the problem and will share what I did to help others who may have a similar problem.  I was brought to the solution by reading article no. 1014535 the VMware knowledge base, and that changes the way I configured the virtual computer to connect with my Epson network printer. When I then reconfigured the virtual machine directly connected to the Epson printer on my network without wire instead of printing using a pass through the connection via the Mac (ThinPrint), it prints correctly.  I still don't know why this problem did not exist before when I was using the same passage in the installer, but the important thing is that it prints correctly now.

• PowerEdge 2950 Dell computer virtual nic problems...

  For me, this looks like a network with the physical network problem.

  Please make sure that all ports of the switch to the network of the virtual machine are set to Spanning Tree Port Fast (it is the name of Cisco switches)

  Basically, it seems that the system has trouble finding / access to one or more of the files associated with the virtual machine. Given that you can migrate to and not the host, I suspect it's the permissions problem reported in the first thread.

  A mi me ha pasado lo mismo con Suse 9.1 y Centos. OS paso UN documento Vmware donde explican los cambios than hay do in los del kernel segun the distribution parameters. A mi me ha solved the problem. Concretamente Suse tuve as seguir con las page that requires sober el servicio ntp.
