  O this sara need di metterci a HDD fisico con una sua propria formattazione? Tipo NTFS FAT 32?

• Increase in the size of the virtual disk after update comments

  I'll put up a basic using Fedora 11 virtual machine. I installed it with the installer in text mode to get a basic system with a small footprint. Once installation is complete, the size of the folder for the virtual machine is 564 MB. After you have installed a few programs (presto, nano) and run yum update, the size of the folder double almost to .97GB when the virtual machine is shut down. There is no snapshot on each machine. Disk settings are a single virtual disk of 8 GB, 2 GB split, not preallocated. The OS is Vista Business 32-bit. VMware Workstation is 6.5.3 Build 185404.

  What is all that extra space? I tried the yum and several options reset but no luck. I ran - x - m - max-depth = 1 / in computers with the following results:

  When you don't have vmware tools installed vmware-vdiskmanager shrink is indeed very.

  You first need to wipe unused space with zeros.

  If DD \u003d/dev/zero of = 0bits bs = # 20971520 bs = 20 m rm 0bits

  The two commands will create a such wiperfile.

  You must run these commands for every single partition that you use.

  When done turn off the virtual machine and run vmware-vdiskmanager with option to shrink again.

• How remote access to VIRTUAL LABS

  I have 2 Virtual Labs created using vmware wokstation customer v 5.5.9 and hosted on a Win XP machine. Currently my team has 4 people. Is it possible to access these virtual labs remotely and simultaneously?

  I heard on the VMWARE virtual machine console. but can I use the VM foraccessing vmware workstation customer files?

  Please help with ideas.

  Ok. I don't think that this workstation has a web interface. then only way for the operation of the console is in in my computer and right-click the vm-> open the console.

  If you switch to vmware server 2, it is also a product free vmware, then there is a web interface and this way you can get access to the remote console (or you could go with ESXi which is also free...)

• Virtual Lab & licensing server Eval 2012...

  I am the creation of a virtual laboratory of server 2012 using VirtualBox.  I want to be able to test multiple instances at the same time.  I downloaded an iso of 2012 Center Eval (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter) and installed.  After taking snapshots and cloning in various locations along the installation process (before admin password on the connection and screen after the installation of the updates), I shot to the top of each 180-day license to see if the product keys are the same.

  They have been.

  Which makes me think that every copy, I am running is running on the same 180-day license.

  Help me understand if this is the case.  Is my product key my download from the eval Center-related or is the product (so that the same on all instances) key, unique license that instance for 180 days, related to the 'MAC' of this virtual machine?

  If the first case, does that mean all the 180 days, I need to download an ISO fees with a new product key that reboots my 'trial' of 180 days license?

  I'm not trying to work around licensing.  I have just a dynamic laboratory environment that takes little effort to implement so I would reverse as reconstruction is as easy as possible.

• Can double-click is no longer on a virtual computer after update to Win 8.1 (on the Mac host)

  We have VMWare Fusion Version 5.0.3 (1040386) running on a Mac Book Pro (Mountain Lion) with a Windows 8 VM, updated week last through the App Store to 8.1

  We have this problem on all our machines:

  1 open Windows Explorer, navigate to any 'virtual' folder (ie. a folder which is actually pointing to a folder on the Mac, for example My Documents).

  
  2. you can see everything, but you can't do anything with it. For example, double-click a file to open it and the application (for example, Notepad, Excel, whatever) does not start. The workaround, it is that you have to go to the physical folder on the Mac and open the file, then it will open the appropriate application of the virtual machine (and the file opens in the application). On VM Win8, it wasn't necessary, it has worked well for the virtual machine.

  3. you double-click any subfolder to open it either, you can never see the top level of the virtual machine.

  It seems that the behaviour of 'double click' is broken.

  OK, the solution to this problem is not double click, but sharing folders. VMware tools needs to be completely ONE installed, restart the virtual machine, and then reinstall the VMware tools.

  I also had to change the registry settings in Windows for VMWare tools first, because otherwise it could not be uninstalled.

  Changes to the registry, then select Virtual Machine in Fusion, the menu reinstall. This will cause the Tools CD-ROM mounted in the virtual machine (Windows 8.1 in my case). Ignore the guests that appear and instead, open Control Panel and choose to uninstall VMWare Tools. You must restart the virtual machine later. After the reboot, new Virtual Machine in Fusion menu goto and now select "install VMware Tools". You will need to logoff the VM at the end and reconnect again.

• Strange editor behavior of virtual network after updating to Windows 7

  
  Do not know exactly if that's when it happened (update of windows 7) but now when I go in the editor of virtual network, or add a new network or simply modify an existing one, the one I hit

  Any IP field I try to edit/change I can only add two numbers. If there already 3 and I stress and variation 1 of them I can do that two digits by field.

  Then 192.168.100.0 and try to change the TI 100 to 101 going to 10, can I change the 10 to 99, 40 any other number but not a 3 digit number.

  This happened on the workstation 10 if I support (uninstalled) reved and re-installed WS 9 same behavior.

  Found. If I use a custom DPI setting (or 134% of normal), I get the funky behavior.

  If I use the default or 125% setting, everything is good.

  Returned to the standard windows display driver just to see if the same thing and it was (NVidia card) vs NVidia GEForce driver

• Update of ESX4 without virtual center or Update Manager

  I use a 1 host configuration, where Virtual Center is installed as a virtual machine. I understand that this is not "best practice". Our host in a data center and rack space is limited for us. Anyway, how we would update ESX in this environment? Virtual Center being a virtual machine, it will have to be stopped to host clean up the updates. We cannot provide a physical box at present to perform Virtual Center. Is there therefore a non Virtual Center / Update Manager ESX update mode?

  Unfortunately, it will not work with ESX - because updates are done differently. Each update in ESXi update the firmware to the previous version, while in ESX each patch is added to the ESX operating system.

• Strange error; VMware Server 2.0.1 stopped running virtual machines after update.

  I'm currently on Virtual Center Version 2.5.0 Build 84767... databases are on the SQL 2005 Enterpirise edition that is running on the same box...

  I'm planning an upgrade to 'update of 5' and I have 3 questions:

  1 at - it an "update option" in the Wizard installation or is it going to be a relocation complete?

  2. If it is an update and not a re - install, the installation wizard would take care of the part of the database of the installation or should I point to the database?

  3. If it is an update and not a re - install, are my current configurations in Virtual Center will be affected? What is the best way to save the current config?

  When you launch the installation program, you will be able to upgrade the VC, VI Client, VUM and converter (if installed)

  2. If it is an update and not a re - install, the installation wizard would take care of the part of the database of the installation or should I point to the database?

  The wizard will load the DB for VC and MUV (if installed) but you will need to enter the DSN and details of authentication, so make sure you know what.

  3. If it is an update and not a re - install, are my current configurations in Virtual Center will be affected? What is the best way to save the current config?

  Stop the service center virtual VMware, back up your DB using SQL Server Management Studio for SQL Express (free download) and if your VC server is a virtual machine, it captures instant. Restart the service center virtual VMware before proceeding with the upgrade.

• The upgrade of the Virtual Center 2 update 4 update?

  I am currently running ESXi on IBm blades and they are running version 3i, 3.5.0 Update 2

  We have Virtual Center 3.5 Update 2 installed as well.

  We seek to improve our 3i to 4 upgrade ESX and Virtual Center.  I was looking through the upgrade guide, but there wasn't this listed scenario.

  My plan was to:

  Take c and inplace upgrade of the Virtual Center Update 2 to 4 update server

  VMotion invited out of one of our blades, then update the blade and bring guests.

  Am I missing something?  Are there documents more precise that lists how should I do this?

  seems good... Just get a full backup of your DB vCenter before starting.

  The Upgrade Guide can be helpful as well.

  Also, VMware tools for your guest will require an upgrade as well.

  Anyone with experience in the present? Documentation says that it is not possible to install the update on a VCSA Manager but you can install the update on a Windows Machine Manager and point it at the VCSA.

  Anyone try? It works as recommended by VMware?

• Creating an ESXi Virtual Lab for testing and learning purpose

  I am new in this VMware technology. I have a few questions here. I am trying to set up a virtual test on my laptop environment. Is this possible?

  The laptop has processor i7, 12 GB memory and 2 x 500 GB HARD drive. I will use the second 500 GB to Openfiler iSCSI connection.

  Here are the questions.

  1. the laptop has only one LAN port, but I need to define HA and FT on it. Can I just add more virtual cards on ESXi hosts?

  2 workstation 7 by default has VMnet0, VMnet1 and VMnet8. Can I use them for ESXi hosts also or they should not be used?

  3. what options should I assign these virtual network adapters (NAT, host-only or custom)?

  When you create your host ESX (i) inside Workstation I would use just filled to the right network to start. Keep it simple to start. Set up as a virtual Workstation machine openfiler.
