Vista crashes in many contexts

My Vista hangs frequently.  It happens more often when switching from windows using Alt - Tab.  The 'window' that shows the available windows, which is kind of translucent, will remain on the screen, and I can't navigate to another application or use the one in progress.  It is quite rare to get crashes just because I'm in a program.  The grip can last from a few seconds to 15 minutes.

I had this problem for a while, and then I was struck by a virus, date at which I reset my system and then installed all updates current windows.  FWIW, my computer is a Dell 530 2008-vintage.  I don't have any antivirus software installed other than what is originally from Vista.  I have 3 GB of memory, although it seems that the system can 'see' of 2 GB.  (I checked the BIOS and it must see 3, but in the Task Manager, it seems not to see 2)

I usually follow the applications a little open, but sometimes even after I reload, although only him freezes usually will not change so immediately after that I restarted.  It does not appear to be associated with a particular application, but the main applications that I usually open are IE9, Outlook 2003, and Quicken 2010.  I sometimes 15 or 20 IE Windows open.  I tried to increase the size of my swap file, and that did not help.

The fact that he continued even after the system reset is particularly depressing.  I am the point of being ready to chuck the PC and get a new one, I hate kind of do.

    Well Vista crashed again everything playing spider solitaire.  I checked the problems & Solutions in Control Panel and it is said that the problem was caused by the ATI graphics driver, and there is not at this time.

    I'm not aware of any of the posters with this problem yet solved. I'm expecting details of the blue screen error messages there so that we can begin to find the cause of the accident.

    Looks like trying to install a Service Pack. Please follow these steps:
    1) click on the round of departure
    (2) in the search field, type msinfo.32
    (3) under programs, click msinfo32.exe
    (4) for the charge of Information System, look next to the Version in the right frame.
    The Service Pack installed will be listed.

    Please post back with what Service Pack level, the system is now.

    In addition, open Windows Update in Control Panel.

    I have ATI Radeon HD 3400 Series (2 GB of Ram, Pentium R Dual Core CPU E5200 @ 2.5GHz, Vista SP2, 32-bit operating system. I don't know if it's important). Lately my computer has been crashing when I watch videos or play a loner, but not every time except solitaire.  It freezes, green squares are everywhere, then it goes black and turns.  I've updated just as much as I can, I cleaned everything as much as I can. It does not crash when I play games suitable as mass effect, and that seems to work very well.

    Don't you think it's because I have little Ram? I looked up on this subject, most people just say to make things of course are up to date, but I'm OCD to make things of course are updated now, and it didn't help a bit. IM nervous to uninstall anything.  Ive forgot what it's called, but I did check to see if the files have been corrupted. Above all I do not understand why it does.  Please could you help.     My HP Pavilion DV9500 laptop started making a few months ago:

    The computer and the programs sometimes simply freeze, sometimes the screen becomes a light pink with diagonal lines dotted, and sometimes the laptop itself restarts without warning.  The computer is about 3 years old now and have not had any problems before this.  I tried to do a clean install of the recovery feature that I don't have a Vista disc to reinstall from, and he always does this.  Sometimes the computer will be fine for a few hours and sometimes just after the start it will freeze.  A couple of times too, as it starts, Windows will not start and it will say "Not found operating system".

    It sounds like imminent hardware failure/issues. Since you did a clean installation of recovery
    pretty much excludes most of the causes of software if it could be driver related and there are other
    possible causes remotely. Video/display and its drivers are suspected leader and mother.
    Board and power supply.

    Hi, I bought a Dell XPS 1640 recently but after I installed Win7 OEM, a lot of blue screen

    that's happened. So I spent again in Vista 64-bit.

    But now I still have two problems

    (1) I can't install my official driver of Dell wireless 5530 HSPA network card minicards
