Vista - windows update broken (and then some)
Hi everyone, maybe you could help me with this...
My system is a laptop running vista home basic service pack 2.
The laptop is also on a wireless network without proxy.
all moving parts are functional, I would say... (ram hd etc..)It seems that this update of windows is quite unable. Common symptoms are
-When you try to search updates notice occurs that the service is stopped.
-A separate statement occurs informing that a host process has stopped working. The most recent update I see is 11/09.
A quick glance around my services leads me to believe that BITS is the problem, because I can't seem to start the service without stopping quickly. It also reproduces the host process error notice.
Event Viewer shows a consistent error listed as follows...Failing application svchost.exe_BITS, version 6.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x47918b89, failed module qmgr.dll, version 7.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e037de, exception 0xc000001d, offset 0x000587e7, process 0x2d8 id error code, start the application time 0x01ca8c8b35264f9f.
The error also occurs with windows defender.
I tried the fix for BITS of http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/940520 including the manual fix suggests the page.
I also tried several methods which included manually stopping and restarting the windows update service and other services that I considered relevant.
System restore failed me on all accounts, Startup Repair can not find anything.
This error is also reproduced in safemode, but also a clean boot.An interesting thing that I met just used the fixit found here
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058
I ran it automatically with the aggressive function checked.
After the reboot, I found that windows update worked but then the two BITS and windows update services stopped.
There is also a message in the editing window:Code 800706BA (unknown error)
I did a considerable amount of research on the internet, including the knowledge base and I can't seem to find a solution for this. So I turn here. After watching a few discussions, it seems that people here are knowledgeable and helpful.
In all sincerity at all any help is GREATLY appreciated.
Thank you for your time.Hello

I recently had my hp pavillion lap top back to xp as a personal necessity, in doing so, I lost the ability to use my built in webcam which came with the original vista, is it possible I can get webcam and or drivers to use again?
Check with the manufacturer of the webcam, or if it's a webcam built-in laptop, check with the manufacturer of the laptop. If they have no XP drivers, then the device does not work under XP.

Vista - Windows Update fails and defender gives the error code: 0 x 80080005
Well, I downloaded Veoh Web Player and DivX player (with a driver package) almost the exact same time, so I don't know who caused the problem. (Guessing Veoh done.) I restored system which usually solves it for me and then uninstalled both programs and even if my computer is not nearly as slow as it was when they were both installed, it's always problems. Windows open frequently stops responding. As I said, the system restore only makes it better for a short time while longer I go without eating, the freezier my computer becomes. I also noticed that for about 2-3 days (after which my computer almost completely freezes and I have to startup repair) most minor cosmetic changes.
I use Firefox, so the first change I noticed was that left side of the address bar in a small half circle in a regular square. Tiny. Then the scroll bars on all the programs I've used lost their Aero look and returned to normal, old style Windows. Eventually good menus click lose their new look, then all the start menu, and finally Windows Explorer stops working and all the windows, when not in use, become small tabs at the bottom of the screen. After that the computer hangs almost entirely.
Each time I restart or system restore the first thing I see is a little box that says that a Windows host process has stopped working. Windows Update continually fails and Windows Defender gives the error code 0 x 80080005. What can I do? I looked for answers before coming here to help and what I read it looks like a downloaded driver can interfere with the host process, even if I uninstalled it (supposedly) all. Thank you.

Hi all
original title: install said 'successful', however, same updates needs to install over and over again.Hope everyone is doing well. This just happened this morning and try to find solutions but seems I can't find the right one.So I got the "shield of Microsoft", letting me know that I have some new updates available.1. Update for .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x 86 (KB2518864)2. Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x 86 (KB2633880)3 security update for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x 86 (KB2572073)I installed the following updates and he "succeeded". A few minutes later, the shield pops up again asking me to install the SAME updates. I did it again and once more "managed". A few minutes later, the shield popped up again (same updates). This time, I installed it, my computer re-setting, however, the same updates need to be installed again. I'm ignoring the shield right now.Thoughts on that? This means - it is NOT installed correctly? How can I fix it?I have a netbook, Windows XP laptop.Thank you.Hello

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Windows Vista, and I have tried the following to fix my endless reboot with the "Configuring updates: stage 3 of 3 0% complete.". Do not turn off your computer. »
- I inserted the cd 'Réinstallation DVD Windows Vista', but it won't pop up any kind of prompt for me to do something with it. I tried putting the cd in what was on the computer and tried leaving him in and restart it - but the cd has no EFFECT.
- I used the F8 key and I tried the following with no luck: safe mode, safe mode with network, safe mode w / command prompt, enable logging, last known good configuration (Advanced) boot and debug mode. Most of these options make the monitor off (to make you think he will do something), then it just restarts and did the thing reboot loop again and again.
- I also tried the repair your computer option to the F8 key. He asks me to log in as an administrator (but my password does not work). So, I use the menu drop down and choose the name of my computer and then use my password, and I can connect to "restoration of access options '. Once I'm in the "System Recovery Options". I tried the following with no luck: Startup Repair tool, restore the system, Windows complete PC Restore, Windows Memory Diagnostic tool and command prompt. THE only ONE that I HAVE NOT YET TRIED it IS THE "DELL FACTORY IMAGE RESTORE", it's because I want to try to fix it without losing everything on my hard drive. Here are the details of the I've tried in the "System Recovery Options".
- The command prompt says: 32 X:\Windows\system > (I have no idea how to use it, but it's what he says)
- The memory diagnostic tool reboots the computer, but nothing new happening (just reboot over and over again)
- In the PC restore full Windows: I tried to put the Windows Vista CD in, but it can not find a valid backup location
- When I click on the system restore: it is said: "no restore points were created on your computer's system disk. To create a restore open system protection point. When I click on the system protection, it is said: "your computer is running in a limited diagnostic State. If you use the system restore in this limited State, you can't undo the restore operation. Help topics are not available in this State. " So I press OK, and I'm back to square one.
- When I click on startup repair: it says "Startup Repair could not detect a problem.
- I know there are many many posts on this problem, and I think I've tried all the suggestions on how to solve the problem, but they do not work for me.
- PLEASE HELP ME! I need my computer for my college work. I can't borrow laptop my friend forever!
