Vista next to Windows 7 on the same computer

Is it possible to 'downgrade' to, or install Windows Vista, along with Windows7?
It would solve my problem of username when FrontPage 2003 publishing.

Windows Update has nothing to do with the upgrade or downgrade from Windows. Please post future questions about upgrading or downgrading in this forum: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7install/threads

That being said...

Yes, you could install Vista on a separate partition or in the Virtual Machine, but you would need a full retail version of Vista to do. And even in this case, you may experience problems with FrontPage 2003 under Vista if you install IE8.

All in all, you would be probably better to use Publisher 2007 SP2 (or Publisher 2010, once it is beta) or even Expression Web 3 instead of FrontPage 2003 these days. It would probably be a cheaper option, too.

    Yes.

    Not at all.

If you have Windows 7 with an OEM license agreement (it came pre-installed on the computer is the most likely scenario for this, but you can buy OEM copies so) or you have a license to retail (upgrade or full version) - the way your question is worded is very specific - you * can * install Windows 7 costs/clean on this same system as much as you wish.  A new hard drive won't stop you activation - well that at some point, you need to activate by phone, as opposed to over the Internet.

Now - if the motherboard is replaced and it's licensed OEM and replacement was not that of the OEM that probably set up your computer...  Then you have a problem.

Unless you happen to have a license of Windows 7 retail sales, so it is not related to the computer (motherboard).

    Concerning

  • install two copies of windows oem on the same computer

Installation of two separate copies of OEM windows 7 on the same computer (an ultimate, a home premium, the two 64 bit) the problem is that I can't hide (do it completely unavailable - mask not only) the first installed OS of each from the second partition (identified as "oem partition") when it is started in the second operating system.

I would like to do to use the ultimate as a main working OS operating system (be able to load up with various applications, databases of workers etc. etc., that once everything is loaded tends to emphasize the system a little (it does not as effectively as I would like).) I would then use the partition Home premium for latency sensitive things. boot between the two and other work is managed by linux (grub 2)

the disks are defined as readers of ahci uefi (couple of ssd for boot/apps/pagefile)

Is it still possible? (even with me having to buy the commercial versions of the os (non - oem), or microsoft is trying to wrest a sort of copy protection scheme

the two disks (main) are set up as follows
/ dev/sda1 to fat32 (for gpt disks) startup (resized to 500 MB of 128)
/ dev/sda2 unknown ms reserved (this is set here as part of microsofts uefi partitioning installation sequence)
/ dev/sda3 ntfs first installation (7 ultimate) operating system

dev/sdb1 unknown ms reserved (see above)
dev/sdb2 ntfs second os install - he actually complains during installation that it cannot install on the partition, but he does it anyway

Thanks in advance for any help

I forgot to add the second installed operating system know the partition indicator 'hide '.

  • can I use my profile of windows 7 on windows 8 on the same computer

I've been using tb for years, now I'm on windows 7, but when I'm editing I use windows 8 same computer but on a different partition. I don't want to copy files, as when I go back to windows 7 they wont last updated on any new email I received with windows 8. Can I simply use form profile tb windows 7 on windows 8?
Can't do anything in TB until you add an email address, I have, but when I told him to get the windows 7 partition profile I got a large list appear but not my emails or accounts.

am I want to do simply not possible, I see several articles re multiple profiles, but not on multiple windows operating systems

As long as the profile is when Windows 7 and Windows 8 can see (and write in it!), then it should work.

However, the default location is inside the users and this may be limited. Users has been implemented to be accessible from both systems?

Otherwise, you have created a shared folder accessible to both Windows 7 and Windows 8 to host profile?

The trick for the implementation is, once you put the profile where the two installations of Windows can see, is to edit the files respective profile.ini two systems to refer to the new location. You will certainly need also the IsRelative value 0 (i.e. false) and use of backslashes instead of slashes in path names.

A caveat is that both facilities must use the same version of Thunderbird, or they can bicker about version of add-on levels.

  • Move from vista to windows 7 on the same computer. Is it necessary to make a "transfer"?

I'm doing an upgrade on my computer from vista to windows 7.

Am a little confused about the need to "transfer" of data to an external source.

What is a precautionary measure, used to retrieve the data if something terrible happens?

Or is it that, after the upgrade to windows 7, the data is then "transferred", back on the computer newly improved?

  • Running Windows 98 on the same computer under Windows Vista Home Edition

I have a CD collection that will not play on Windows Vista, then how can I instal Windows 98?  300 GB of memory in 32-bit operating system, AMD (tm) 64 x 2 Dual Core Processor 4200 + 2.19 GHz memory.
    Assistance is welcome.

Go first, site of the manufacturer of your computer, check to see if your model computer has 98 drivers available for it...

If 98 drivers are not available for your model, forget the idea.

I got a new computer (an old dies) new a windows vista and I have to disable the old computer before I load the same copy of Vista on my new computer.  If yes how can I do this?

If Vista is preinstalled on your OLD computer, it is classified as an OEM license and is not transferable.

The license of Vista OEM is related to the original computer it is installed on and dies with the computer.
You cannot transfer it to another computer/laptop

If a license of Vista at retail, you can transfer it to another computer/laptop.
But it can only be installed on one computer at a time.

A single license is a single Installation.

If it is a retail Vista license, read the information on the clean install and then reactivate it:

    Thank you!!

You can add the disk with Xp Pro as a slave. You may need to change the jumper settings. However, you cannot take a drive with an operating system that has been installed on another computer and start to the new computer. In 15 years of computer technology I couldn't do it only once and it was with a Vista operating system. However, Windows is designed to not allow that.

The most likely reason that you are denied access to the files on the disk with Pro is that you will need to take ownership of the files.
