  This problem may occur if the Windows group policy disables the power (or battery), and Volume icons, or the registry keys related to notification area icons have corrupted. To re-enable and restore policies must be turned off, and the registry keys, cleared or fixed.
  Activate the system via Local Group Policy Editor icons
  
  Run GPedit.msc to start local Group Policy Editor.
  
  Expand the tree and access Configuration user-> templates-> Start Menu and taskbar to administration.

  After a routine Canon ip8500 printer Vista install updated software, the PC has frozen in half way through. On the restart, I had the famous line "lack of ndldr".

  As the Vista disk repair option detects no problem, I found the instructions for a fix to neosmart and followed the instructions using bootrec.exe commands.  None worked.

  NOTICE: I put then the drive in another PC to try to access the programs and files, in particular Documents.  The boot partition now displays only users for Administration, by default and all, and all the folders are empty. My user ID does not show in Windows Explorer and all my files user, office computer, Documents, programs, Favorites, etc. etc. are missing. Far is all my data do not appear.   HOW can I get my 1000's of programs, data and most imporatantly Docs now. The fragility of the data user and MS OS in 2012 is unacceptable for a commercial operating system.

  All references to the support and solutions are of course welcome and very grateful, since I'm in despair.

There are programs out there to recover files deleted or removed, but from personal experience, they are not not as advertised.

  In a business and personal computing are SO vital to maintain your system saved (preferably on another external hard drive) for this exact reason... of things happening.   If your data are parts of your 'documents', it means that you have upgraded the OS and erased from the system.

  Make sure that D: is not the partition recovery including the manufacturer put there to make the recovery disks from and eventually to return your computer to how you bought

  You cannot combine C: and D: and their data using the Vista Disk Manager

  with Vista, you will need to save the data on D: - D: delete - and then extend C: into the now unallocated space where D: was to do a 1 partition 2
