Vista Welcome screen won't let me finish typing my password

I have a hp laptop that has suddenly lost its wireless connection.  After that restarting windows vista doesn't let me finish typing my password on the Welcome screen.  What should I do?

Thanks for responding.  On the Welcome screen, the only places to click had to shut down or restart.  I had to use a different computer at the entrance to my question here.  There is no start button, so I could do nothing at all.  I have not forgotten my password.  He simply stopped accepting my characters.  I finally just reinstalled the Vista operating system and took two days to get to all the updates that are installed and reinstall my software.  I'm not finished.  I think that the Wi - Fi connection problem has to do with the new Net Gear router that I bought.    I found that if I restart my computer, then the wireless setting is by saying that I am connected.  But if I go away and let the computer run for example overnight or a few hours and then when I come back I have to restart the computer to get the connection.  The recent change is the new Net Gear router I had when I changed border (had many failures that I couldn't tolerate) to Comcast (which has a Net Gear router that keeps cutting out).  I never know if it has something to do with the computer manufacturer, HP, Microsoft Windows, Internet, Comcast service provider or router, Net gear.  New technology is not for everyone.

Thanks for trying to help me.

    Hello Boli.law,

    Thank you for using the Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.

    Sorry, you are having this problem!  However, in Windows Vista, there is no setting to change the boot logo in the registry. And with your dual monitor set up it stretches on both screens.  Thank you!

  • Slide the t icon Fingerprin on the Vista Welcome screen

    Hi im using hp protect version 4.00 of the feeder on windows vista tools to access my account adminstrive with my fingerprints. On the Welcome screen it shows two users, they are my administrive account and another user called "swipe to open a session. I really want to remove the icon 'slide your finger to log on' out of my home screen, but still be able to connect to my account using my fingerprint. If anyone knows how to remove it please reply thank you.

    Turn off the device and restart the computer, then the connection of the fingerprint scanner icon should disappear.  Do not disable or delete the user login screen icon, instead of turn off the ability to use the device as I told you.

    "tommy-n123" wrote in the new message: * e-mail address is removed from the privacy... *

    Yes! Thank you very much it's been I can remove it, but the problem is that if I press 'manage users' to remove, I get an error saying this

    Error 0xA: year HP ProtectTools Application error has occurred.

    HP ProtectTools is unable to establish a communication channel with the pre-boot security subsystem. Please reboot and activate "Allow reset of the HP ProtectTools security keys" in the Security menu of the BIOS F10 Setup or contact your administration.

    I'm not sure what to do here. Please answer thank you.

  • Computer will not pass Vista Welcome screen.

    I have a compaq computer that stays on the login screen.  I click on the user and the screen goes black as it will load the desktop and then it goes back to the Welcome screen.  I click on the user and it does the same thing.  I can't on the desktop.  I tried safe mode, but it does the same thing.  I also tried to do a chkdsk/r, and it took some time, as it has been resolved the problem, but when it started back he had the same problem.  I really want to format and reload, because the cd of vista was a once install and then the cd is useless.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    What we prefer to do and what we can do are 2 completely different things.

    If you can not start safe mode, and you cannot use the Vista recovery disc, there is no much hope, y at - it?

    Follow the info below to backup your data > and reinstall Vista.

    Data recovery:

    1. slave of your hard drive in another computer and read/save your data out there.

    2. put your Hard drive in a USB hard drive case, plug it into another computer and read/save from there.

    3 Alternatively, use Knoppix Live CD to recover data:

    http://www.Knopper.NET/Knoppix/index-en.html

    Download/save the file Knoppix Live CD ISO above.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
    Download the Vista software from the link above.
    After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.
    Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.
    Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1st in the boot order.
    Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.
    When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.
    Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.
    Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).
    Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.
    See you soon.
  • When I use search, Firefox doesn't let me finish typing the word. Strikes effect the page rather than the search box (BACKSPACE ex. goes back a page instead of a character in the box). How can I fix it?
    When I type in the search box, Firefox interrupts me before I finish typing the word (usually within the first 4 letters. 'Focus' password input box to find on the page itself.     I had not restarted after you disable the SearchMenu. After you restart, it would seem that the problem was, in fact, SearchMenu. That was my suspicion. Once finding highlights a 'word' SearchMenu interrupts to offer her services. I guess I'll post on their advice, to see if there is a solution.
    I should have restarted before posting. My apologies. Relocation of the recruit.
  • Need to install XP on a system with VISTA, but it won't let me!
    I recently discovered that when I upgraded to Vista, I lost the use of my webcam and in order to fix properly, I have to reload a fresh install of XP, obtain the driver and then upgrade to Vista.  Problem is when I boot the XP cd and try to install a new copy of XP, the message that I get is I have not all installed hard drives.  I guess this is a feature of Vista security and I want to know how to get around this problem.  I know the utility FDisk BACK has been useful in more installed, but alas, this utility is not found on XP disks.  Suggestions welcome, thank you.
    If the hard drive is SATA you need SATA drivers (from the cd XP doesn't have everything). Or disable the AHCI in the BIOS. However, this can also affect Vista. Or you might have to refomat the hard drive, put XP and Vista (installing 2 operating systems)
  • Vista Movie Maker won't let me publish
    Hello.
    I try to publish a video I worked so long on and when I get to 40%
    It stops and it says: Windows Movie Maker cannot publish the movie to the specified location. Verify that the original source files used in your movie are still available, that the publishing location is still available, that there is enough available disk space, and then try again.
    I have enough free space: 118GB
    The video is 1920 x 1080
    And it takes about 2 min.
    I'm very angry they may not make a program that WORKS!
  • After the update to Vista, welcome screen is recycled to disconnect. Starts in Mode safe mode only.
    After the last update, just slowed down, so I restarted my Dell Studio laptop. I noticed MsMpEng.exe was the biggest user of memory and still is. I lost the desktop configuration in mode without failure, as well as some sound themes, homepage, recent files, Windows security settings, etc. Internet Explorer re - starts NEW whenever it is open.  Typing jumps about. I rebooted and restored several times in Mode safe with no improvement except to return to items on the desktop. I lost all the restore points. Msconfig is the same as the previous (selective startup), without any news. I finally got Directory Services Restore Mode and disable UAC, but have still lost all my old settings and other features. Analysis of security shows no problem. I now can't change anything as the printer creation, probably because I don't have administrator privileges with UAC off the coast. Don't download FixIt. Is there something I can do? I used regedit before, but am not game to touch.
    Thank you, Dena, I restarted factory and now everything is fine. He did take 5 days to fix but. Thus, you can close this point. Thanks for your comment. Phil
  • Windows Vista won't let me enter a password
    Hello
    My mother has Windows Vista, and today when she went to turn on the computer, to the Vista Welcome screen, when it prompted for a password, it would not let him anything.  If she goes into repair mode when starting, it let him then and he will accept.  She has not changed recently, or someone else.  She tried to start safe mode and also checked the keyboard keys stuck and dirt.  She is old, does not know the product # and is not a disc of recovery of any kind.  For some reason any Vista simply won't let no its nothing State in the password box.
    Can we do anything?
    While she did a restore of the system scanned for malware and nothing works.
    If she can't do those steps, or they do not solve the problem, it will have to reinstall the operating system.
  • Vista hangs at the Welcome screen, restore points have been removed. Any help?
    I've had trouble with this during about a week now. For reference, it seemed to just happen out of the blue - have not installed new drivers or hardware (to my knowledge). In addition, tried a restore a few weeks ago point and seemed to work... once. Now I can't explain it, but all the restore points have been removed too!
    I'm not an expert, but I try to tackle these things and could help. Here's what I've done so far:
    -successfully started in safe mode.
    -Open "msconfig".
    -tried to narrow down the suspects with Services' first.
    -Disabled all "Services".
    -Restarted and restarted successfully.
    -Tried to reactivate Services' one by one.
    -I got to the reactivation of service 'IKE and AuthIP IPsec keying modules' and restarted. Met again hung up on the Vista Welcome screen.
    -Restarted in safe mode.
    -Disabled the "IKE" service... ». Restarted fine.
    -Repeat the re - turn on and off cycle again, has got the hang up once more for good measure.
    -Re-enabled all services except the "IKE" service... "and rebooted fine. Working on the computer now. [Dell Inspiron E1505 Laptop, running Vista SP 2 with 2 GB RAM]
    Did some research on this service and I was wondering if it is an essential service that I should be running (see link below).
    http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc733299%28WS.10%29.aspx
    I've saved personal files and try to avoid restarting own Vista, although whereas wiping and running Linux if possible.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
    Viza,
    I got exactly the same problem on Inspiron 1501 a parent who tried to correct - i.e. problem hanging welcome screen. I have just updated the drivers wireless to the support.dell.com site and have had 3 reboots success in a row, which is 2 more that I could realize by adjusting the parameters of startup using MSCONFIG. Interest how did you decide to update the wireless drivers?
  • Screensaver option AWOL "on resume, display welcome screen.
    What caused the sceen saver option ' on the resumption, display welcome screen "should be replaced by the"on RESUME, password protect"option on my trusty Windows XP Professional sp3?
    There is something very unpleasant on the Windows 2000 dialog box "your computer is locked. I like much better, the login screen of Fisher Price although - as I am the only real user of this particular PC - it makes little difference in practice.
    I'm a little curious why something worked reliable suddenly since nearly seven years broke, however. Maybe even concerned.
    I recently installed .net 4 but I can't say for sure if this is the culprit because Windows will not let me uninstall it (and I did the other intentional changes to the system, System Restore is not an option).
    To the title of the user accounts, I have both 'use the home screen' and "Use fast user switching" enabled.
    Outside my 'real' user account, there is the administrator account, an account of computer ASP.NET, the guest account (which is 'off' but not disabled) and 9 'VSA Server accounts' (something Visual Studio, it seems to me). Of these, only my 'real' account and the guest account are visible in user accounts. The Asp.Net account used to be visible there, I think.
    Googling "on Resume, display vs homescreen, password protect" finds a number of discussion forums about the issue that I have encountered and the general opinion seems to be that, by design, the "display home screen" option is available only on systems with more than one user, but is this really so?
    A fix for this is to download TweakUI for XP (Powertoys) go to login and select "Show ASPNET on home screen. It does not actually show on login, but it's a way to get the screen saver setting in return. Now on trial with .NET 4.
    Edit: Confirmed after installation of .NET 4 works even if the patch must be applied again after the installation.
