Vista will not play dvd/cd

I just installed 32-bit windows vista business on an old dell computer of three years, including drivers and utilities.  The ATI Radeon HD 2600 driver is current.  But I can't recognize dvds/cds when I try to run them in Windows Media Player or Real Player.  How to attack this problem?

Hello

Do not forget to check with support of system manufacturer (manufacturer of motherboard for customized systems),
their documents online and ask in their forums (if any) on the problems during the upgrade
for Vista. Check also with the support of the real manufacturer of the CD/DVD drive and other resources.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
do it right.

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are
the entries in registry that the troubleshooter does not solve and those who "might" be the cause.

Check with your Maker system and a device for the two possible firmware updates and
the correct registry entries for your car.

Here are the keys that I of course are those in question - for the subkeys of the CD/DVD drive
as there will be other subkeys in these keys. Do not forget to ask specific keys involved as well as
the parameters.

  • C50-A-137-SU-208BB ODD satellite will not play DVD

    Hello

My laptop Toshiba C50-A-137 (Windows 7 64-bit) has the following disk drive: * TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU - 208BB SCSI CdRom dur.*

The problem I have is that he will not play the James Bond 'Skyfall' DVD (Region 2 discs). The disc is played on two other laptops (non-toshiba) and two different DVD players at home. If the disc is not defective!

I need to insert the disc to download my digital film copy (I have itunes etc on this Toshiba laptop).

Spins just to drive on a couple of times, but is not recognized as having a content. If I double click on the drive in the windows Explorer I get the message "insert disc" as if there is no disk in the drive.

    * I am hoping it is used a later driver for the disc drive of SU208BB as the current (a more recent available) appears to be - version 6.1.7601.317514 of the year 2006

This driver is now 7 years! must be a newer driver to help me read this DVD?

    > This driver is now 7 years! must be a newer driver to help me read this DVD?
First of all: it of not a driver problem. All computers preinstalled with Microsoft Windows system use the internal driver of Microsoft, which controls the optical disk drive. It is necessary for the recognition of optical disk driver but he s not responsible for media playback compatibility.
    > Other discs (CDs and DVDs for the software installs mainly) have all worked well.
This confirms my idea that you, CD/DVD drive works fine.

    > All later driver or firmware etc available during 2006 for this drive?
Where these packages would be available, you'd find on the page of the Toshiba UE driver (in Satellite C50 driver download area - A). But I checked the page and this firmware update is not available. This means that there is not.

What you could do is to check if your CD/DVD drive has region 2
This can be done in the properties of the CD/DVD drive: right click on the CD Player / DVD-> properties > Hardware tab-> CD Player / DVD-> properties button-> DVD region

Where his game for region 2, I recommend you to clean the lens using cotton tip and liquid alcohol. Do this carefully and gently. This could help.

If not I guess it's just a problem of compatibility between disc and player

  • Satellite A200 plays not only will not play DVD

I'm a first time user on this forum so Hello to everyone.

My problem is that my Satellite A200 of (duration Vista) won't play DVD. When I try I get the following message: "Windows Media Player cannot play video DVDs. You may need to adjust your Windows display settings. Open display settings in Control Panel, and then try to lower your screen resolution and color quality settings. Needless to say, I've played a bit with the appropriate settings and there was no change in the situation. In a response published in another forum, someone suggested that I ditch Windows Media Player in favor of something better. I thought that the alternative program, he has proposed would be free, but it wasn't. In any case, I tried to play the DVD with other programs and received the same basic message. Is not a thing of Windows Media Player, it's a thing of DVD playback. In addition, it does not matter if WMP isn't the BEST DVD player - I just want to play DVD! I wrote to one of support from Microsoft customer care and they wrote in saying that it wasn't their problem. They consider it a "question of material". I don't buy that.

Just a bit of history - I bought the computer second hand a good friend. Now, I don't ever remember playing a DVD on the computer, which somewhat confuses things for the following reasons. Just after I bought the computer, which is running Vista, I installed MP3 player software which has expressed its disagreement with the CD/DVD drive drivers. What I think is a quite common problem. This time Microsoft representatives were happy to help me and told me to delete two lines of registry keys. That fixed the problem to a certain extent, because now the reader a) still existed and b) could read and play CDs. But when I tried to play a DVD I got the above message.

So as I said, I never even remember reading a DVD on the drive, I don't know if the problems are related to the problem of shock of MP3 software, although it seems unlikely that they are related. Finally, the computer has been less than a year when I bought it and in all other respects, it has been very well (unbearable slowness of Vista by derogation). Unfortunately the extended warranty is now sold out so I hope this isn't a hardware problem. The fact is that, given that I've never even played a DVD on this thing, and he plays the CD without any problem (in addition, the drive can READ DVD, he can tell me all the chapters that are on a DVD and play the files that he - she won't just play movies), I don't think it's material. I think that there is a current bug.

If someone could shed some light on this matter, I would be eternally grateful!

    Concerning

    Hi mate

I m using the VLC Player as well.

  • External DELL GP60N USB DVDRW drive will not play DVD

    Hello

I have a new Dell Inspiron 3531 with Windows 8.1.  The laptop came with an internal DVD/CD drive, so I bought a Dell GP60N external USB DVD - RW Drive.

When I put a DVD in the drive that the laptop recognizes it is there, but will not play regardless of how I set the automatic run settings.

I also searched drivers see if mine was outdated, but not found to contribute to the situation.

Any help from the community will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Heath

Default Windows can not decode DVD video, so you will need some reading software...

Usually, when you buy a DVD player/burner, you get with it, WinDVD or PowerDVD software for video playback and some other software if the device may also burn discs... UNLESS the material was an OEM version, which normally does not come in a box like the commercial version, then you normally get nothing...

So for now the easiest thing is to connect the drive to the laptop and then insert a DVD into the drive. Go to the Explorer, and then right-click the DVD by selecting drive open. You should now see two folders AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. This indicates that Windows sees DVD disc material correctly and that he also sees the files in the DVD itself... Nothing wrong up to now...

Now, go into the VIDEO_TS directory where you should see a bunch of files, a bunch of. BUP. IFO and. VOB files. The. VOB files contain the video code CSS while the. IFO files contain orders for DVD to play appropriate video channel (flow). Normally, the. IFO and. VOB files will have an affair with some reading software and double click on the VIDEO_TS. VOB file will launch the player. If the player is associated. Can manage files IFO CSS encoded DVD, playback will begin and you will hear the sound and see some video... If you have a drive associated with these types of files, usually autoplay will kick and the reading starts automatically on insertion of the DVD in your drive... But if you double-click and there is no software associated with this file extension, so there is no software associated with these files and you can't watch your DVD...

But as mentioned, Windows does not capable by default DVD playback software, so you will need to install a DVD playback software... One solution is to contact the company (Dell?) who provided the external DVD player and ask them why you do not have the comercial DVD reading and DVD software of engraving that you expected would come with your hardware, they can predict it you if she should have come in your package, or they will tell you where you can download it from...

If they won't help or they say it was hardware OEM and that it did not come with software, then consider using VLC to play your videos, as the software is free open source of quality. This page explains how to use VLC to play DVDs in Windows 8... You can also use ImgBurn for burning CDs and DVDs (not blindly just click on the buttons of large download on this web site because they are advertisements for * you need not, simply the page to the section of news where you have a download link)...

Hi, I'm a screener for my movie with again. I can it burns very well and he plays well in my computer and on my Samsung DVD player but my Dynex XDVD2 player plays. He plays other DVDs I have. I ran into this before when I burn a DVD and give it to someone and he does ' t play in their DVD player. This could be a very important search tool and I want to make sure he plays on any DVD player, this person has, because if it doesn't it's perhaps a missed opportunity.

I tried to burn on the settings by default and then tried a lower bitrate (6.0 MB/sec) and the lower burning speed (4 X). Still will not play in my Dynex XDVD2 reader.

I think that it s doesn't know is not for you you will need to change the settings in the properties of the CD/DVD player to play DVDs from other regions of the world.

    Follow these steps:
My computer-> properties of CD/DVD (right click)-> Hardware tab-> properties of CD Player / DVD-> DVD region tab

Here you can choose country from the DVD.

But note! You can change these settings ONLY 4 or 5 times (don't remember exactly) then the settings would fix and could not be changed.
