Windows update fails with error code 8E5E0147.
I have vista SP2. Windows Update is not updated. When you do the update it manually, it says an update is required for windows update. This update fails and it won't let you go further. It gives this error code, but NONE of the research I did seem to have anything on that mistake, except that it was updated to service pack 1. Please help someone.
What application or antivirus security suite is installed and your current subscription? What anti-spyware (other than Defender) applications? What third-party firewall (if applicable)?
A (another) Norton or McAfee application has already been installed on the computer (for example, a free trial version which is preinstalled when you bought it)?
Tip: Open IE (only) to this page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 and reset Windows Update [run the difficulty in the default and aggressive modes].

Windows Update produces the error Code 80070005
My wife's computer has not been updated since 12/08/2011. It runs Microsoft VISTA 32-bit Service Pack 2. I downloaded the Microsoft virus tool, and it found nothing. I also ran several programs: MS Security Essentials (full scan), SpywareBlaster, MalwareAnti bytes, Spybot Search & Destroy and CC Cleaner. Nothing significant was found. Everything works normally on the computer, but cannot get the Windows updates every day I put them. I noticed in the Windows Security Center, user account control (which is under other security settings) had been turned off, so I turned it on. But even with all that, when I try manually check the updates, I get an error Code 80070005. What gives?
