VMDK is not afraid after deleting files

I have a Windows 2003 Server VM on ESXI 4, which seems to have a disk space issue.

The VMDK is not afraid after that I have remove the files from the WIndows disks.

The VMDK is now about 160GB when I look in the data store.

vSphere said that the storage used is 159 GB. This does not change when I click on "Refresh the use of storage" or when I right click on the data store and select "Refresh".

Storage provisioned is 180 GB because the discs are thin provisioned.

I restarted the VM, but also the entire server.

When I look at Windows via the console there are 3 disks about 30 GB, 130 GB and 15 GB, with 10 GB, 90GB and 13 GB free space respectively.

So, according to my calculations, I should 20 + 40 GB + 2 GB used space or 62GB total.

So, where is my 100 GB?

CHKDSK displays no problem. The 130GB partision was almost full at the same time and after that I deleted the files, the VMDK never shrunk!

Any ideas?

TIA-

-Michael

Even if you have deleted files, the disc was written for and there are still old data on the disk. In fact, you must remove the old raw data of the disc (sdelete in Windows) and then the fret.

  • VMDK is not afraid

I have a guest of Windows XP on the Fusion 3.1.0 and seemed too big so I tried to reduce the VM files. The problem is that the vmdk is not afraid.

I deleted all the snapshots (and manually disposed of some 'orphan' vmem and vmsn files that were left).

In Windows, the folder C: watch about 15 GB used / ~ 25GB free / total ~ 40GB. In the Finder the vmdk is ~ 43GB (43 is probably because Snow Leopard is 1000 ^ 3 based).

I tried to shrink from in the comments/VMware Tools a few times - does change significantly the size vmdk, still ~ 43GB. Also I tried Cleanup drive of the disk parameters host/VM options - does not help. The virtual disk is not (and has never been pré-attribuées). It was cut into pieces of 2 GB, but I also tried to bring together in one big file - does not help. I tried zero-ing of free space (using Sysinternals sdelete/z)-does not help.

How can I return my 25 GB?

    Thank you

    Chris

    Two thoughts:

    (1) did you run chkdsk on the guest operating system?  You can have a bunch of lost there clusters.

    (2) you could try to create a new VMDK, then using a program of clone to clone the OS, then edit the VMX file to point to the new clone.  To 'force' to resize.

  • Windows Windows 8 does not properly after deleting important files to user (already tried everything I found things different from +-10)

well, I'll start from the beginning.

the first big mistake I did was change the permissions of the administrator until he was the same trustedinstaller (without this I wouldn't do stupid things, but I did it for a change of details in the registry)

the strange thing that I've been in conflict with, is that this pc was my mother, so everything to his e-mail address and his name 'Nancy' after some time she gave me the pc so I made my own top user account named "maxim" (that's my name) on my email address and probably deleted the user account from my mother named Nancy so no problem until something has started to bored

the usersection in solution under C: contained Explorer still card Nancy with some of its documents on the left and some (I have something windowsrelated files)

so I thought why not remove that card and saw that a card with my name was there too in the usersection, these same unknown files which I think are windowsrelated (btw, these files were hidden but ofcourse to check everything I have chekced the area to see hidden files in Explorer)

I know not the name of all the files that I have demolished within this named Nancy in user card, but as far as I know, is that files that I noticed (these hidden files) are 7 files ntuser and those who are also in the plan named maxim in this usersectionso I thought no problem and delete the files as managed (with edited permissions)

now I certainly delete files that I wasn't allowed to, and who were required to run windows properly, I know that, because of the errors, I am when I try to start things or when I try to fix things

now I searched a LOT on the web especially in the microsoft forums and I fount a lot of 'solutions' that did not work for me

most of the time, it was because I get an error because I could not more process these configurations etc.

and somethimes as the scan SFC, he said that the correction of some problems, but there are many problems left that cannot be repaired in this way

also almost everything I'm doing atm (also when I try to fix my problem) that I have to do with a big traverse most of the time I use "this run dialog box" or the command prompt

now, these are all the things I tried

-each 2013 thing tuneup utilities can do (scans included registery) of course I don't know the exact names of the files important I lost so I couldn't those used with tuneup

-do you have some full scans with Norton 2013 (did not find any problem)

-does this scan SFC and said there are still problems and has not noticed any difference

-tried to update my pc did not work (missing windows services)

-a tried to restart something in the registry did not work (missing windows services)

-tried to make a new user on my pc did not work (missing windows services)

-also tried lots of windows, fix things program (I forgot the name of it, but he could only tell me that he had problems and could not fix their)

I'm shure that I have tried many other things so I mentioned in any case but I forgot the

Many thanks if someone can help me out as sorry for the great story, but I wanted to tell all I know because it's a sensitive issue and please don't mind my bad English :)

Your Windows product key can be printed on a label located on the underside of your laptop, if you don't you won't have it. Using the recovery partition, it is a good idea if you have no recovery on a disk media, often there is a Windows repair option, you can try this, however if there is no data on the first partition that you interested, I recommend you just format the partition for essentially erase everything on it and reinstalling Windows on the recovery partition. This will probably not require you to reactivate Windows by using the product key.

If you cannot use the recovery partition to reinstall Windows, then you can go to this page (on the computer that is working properly) http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-product-key-only and click on install Windows 8, save the file, run it and choose Install by creating media. This you will get an ISO file that you can burn on this disc you mentioned, just put the disc in your computer, right click on the ISO file and choose burn. It should also not ask to reactivate Windows, if you did no major hardware changes to the computer.
Again, I would like to know if you need help with any of these steps or if none of these steps work for you.

  • Table space not reduce after deletion in oracle 11G

    Hi team,

    I have a DB 11.1.0.7 on unix.

I run deleting on the tablespace tables, but this does not diminish.

    Thank you

    There are three ways.

You can create another table in select * from the existing table (after deletions), truncate the table, insert into the table to the new table, drop new table purge. See Procedure of MOS to truncate, delete or purge the lines of the Table of Audit AUD$ [73408.1 ID] trail

Or, you can use the new documented package from DBMS_AUDIT_MGMT to http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11062_01/admin.1023/e11059/avadm_app_d_audit_mgmt.htm#BABIEABE but I have not used it myself, so I don't know if it can shrink. See the new MOS DBMS_AUDIT_MGMT feature to manage and purge Audit information [ID 731908.1]

    The simplest way is to be alter table aud$ move;

Once you have made the table smaller, you can reduce the data files. See http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/misc/reclaiming-unused-space.php

    Method 1:

There could still be a virus or spyware. You can perform a security analysis and check. Check out the link below to run the scan and check if this helps-

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

    Method 2:

If the problem persists, you can check if you are facing the same question in the user account new or different administrator account.  You can create a new user account on your computer, and then check.

    Create a new user account-

  • Table space not reduce after deletion in oracle 10g

    Hello..

Based on my system, I found that my oracle table space has not reduced after the deletion request. Why?... Could someone help me. As your info, I use oracle 10g.

    Thank you
    Balleur

After you delete the table space will not be scheduled free. high tide are not reset. to find the space you want to recognize objects that you have deleted the data. This can be done in many ways.

    (1) move the objects.
ALTER table move temp--> possibly the tablespace clause may be used. After that, you must rebuild the indexes of the tables.

    (2) with 10 g table can be shrunken or reorganize to free up space.

    change the movement line of table mytable enable;
    change the table mytable retractable;

    (3) import/export

export the objects and delete and recreate with import.

It's just the way it works - when a block of sheets is emptied, it is related to the non freelist, but is also related to the appropriate location in the structure of the index. It will be detached from the structure by a coalesce, or when it is necessary to use a free block to manage the new Oracle data.

If you want a few reasonable guesses why:

      (a) it's probably easier to deal with read-consistency of the index
      (b) separate a block of the structure is expensive (you need to change the blocks to the left, right and above), Oracle takes the bet that you are likely to re - insert data in the same block in the near future.
