vMotion between two servers vCenter
From what I've read so far, it seems that this is not possible, but I just wanted to ask to make sure.
Is it possible to live migrate a virtual machine on a host managed by 'a vCenter server' to another host managed by "vCenter Server B? All subnets and storage is exactly the same (we have our own hosts and storage, but it's just all managed under a vCenter Server now). We're just trying to completely separate our hosts and virtual machines to a subcontractor who took over the virtual environment (with the exception of what runs my team)
I have the feeling that this requires time, which is unfortunate, because it means that it will take an extremely long time to coordinate and plan for all this work. Thought it was worth asking if...
Thank you.
I did something similar week last during the upgrade a 4.0 environment. I installed vCenter 5.1, then disconnected and removed the hosts the old vcenter (without first disconnecting that will prompt you to place the host in maintenance mode) and finally added to the new vCenter Server without downtime for virtual machines.

Thanks a lot for your support and welcome to Germany

Hello Stephan,
With EtherChannels, a single flow (the flow of images/packages with the same source and destination) is always carried by a single link only. Implementation of Cisco implements not balancing on connections in an EtherChannel load by package, and it avoids a reason: executives could get reorganized, something this plain Ethernet never should do. This means that you will not see an improvement in bandwidth on the speed of a single link to your EtherChannel for a single stream. It is only the overall bandwidth for several stream which increases. The advantage of EtherChannel becomes therefore obvious that if your server starts many conversations and several stream handling.
Best regards
Peter

Quick vMotioning problem between two servers HP BL460c Gen 9 when EVC enabled
I have two HP BL460c Gen 9 blades configured exactly the same thing with 2 x Intel XEON E5-2660 v3 processors in each of them. Both running the same version ROM (I36 06/05/2015) and running the same version of ESXi (5.0.0 build 2509828). They are managed by a Server Build 2656067 vCenter 5.0.0.
When I configure these two servers in a cluster with EVC disabled I am able to vMotion between them. However, if I activate the Intel EVC modes so I am unable to vMotion between these two identical servers. Here is an example of the message that I get when I updated Westmere VCA mode
Host CPU is not compatible with the requirements of the virtual machine to CPUID level 0 x 1 'ecx' register
Bits of the host: 0000:0010:1001:1000:0010:0010:0000:0011
Required: x 110: x01x:11 x 1: 1xx0:xx11:xx1x:xxxx:xx11
Inconsistency detected for these features:
* General incompatibilities
If I disable CVS, then I can vMotion VMs between them.
I wanted to add these hosts to an existing cluster configured with EVC Westmere mode so that I was able to vMotion between old and new guests, but was unable to vMotion VMs off the new hosts, even if I tried to vMotion to another new host.
Configure a new cluster with only these two new hosts to so I could experiment. I can only vMotion between them if CVS is disabled. I cannot further increase the VCA mode on this new cluster, for example of Westmere to Sandy Bridge then I have virtual machines under tension within the cluster. For example: I put the VCA mode at Westmere, feeding on a virtual computer, when I go to change the CVS to Sandy Bridge mode I get the following message, I should be able to increase the VCA mode but may not lower it
The cluster cannot be configured with the selected Enhanced vMotion
Compatibility mode; The CPU features disabled by this mode may be currently in use
by slot voltage or suspension of the virtual machines in the cluster.
I get this message even if I try to set the VCA mode at the same level, that it is already.
Anyone got any ideas on how to solve this problem?
Hello
Seems, your CPU supports 5.0 ESXi and vCenter 5.0, you must upgrade your vSphere vSphere 6.x for the VCA.

Replication between two servers without direct connecton
Hi all
In this case, we have two servers without direct access between them (firewall, security requirements). In fact the two servers are stored in different VPN.
and the question is:
Can you build an architecture that will provide replication between them (include the server in downstream, trails in the intermediate machine bank file, or something else)?Much love and thanks for your suggestions))
Hello
In this case, your downstream server should be able to communicate to your Source and target.
Kind regards

Copy users and hashes of password between two servers that does not use AD
Hello
We have two servers running Windows 2008 R2, but because we run AD on two of them, I need to find a way to copy the users to the users group to the other server remote desktop and duplicate the hashes thus.
Any ideas? No user file or parameter must copy.
It is better that I do not have need to install AD on one of them and only for the purpose of copying users and hashes

Two servers vCenter and shared storage
Hi all
Is it possible to have two vCenter environment, vCenter 5.1 and 5.5 vCenter and each vcenter has two esxi hosts to vCenter 5.1 a 5.1 host esxi and vCenter 5.5 has esxi hosts.
All four hosts to access the same shared storage (SAN).
VCenter hosts different access to the shared storage will damage the virtual machines on storage?
Thank you...
Essentially access a data store from multiple hosts that are running different versions. However, in the case of these hosts are not managed by the same server vCenter Server, it is your responsibility to ensure that guests will not access the same VMs (records) system and maximum supported are not outdated storage vMotion tasks, for example simultaneous for a data store...
Also don't forget that functions like the control of storage i/o may not work as expected.

Forward and meet vmail between two servers of the unit?
I have a network with where two unity servers are connected and they are able to vmail prior to each other. (I did it using information from a document in a previous post
( http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps2237/products_installation_and_configuration_guide_book09186a00801ba396.html ) However, when this is done, it is not an option to meet the vmail in vmail transmitted within the same server of the unit. Is it possible to configure it to respond? In other words, can you set up to meet the vmail passed the way you can when a vmail is routed within the same server Unity? Is it still possible? I don't see it in the document. The unity server is 4.03 with out-of-box Exchange. The other is 3.1.6 with a box on Exchange unit. Each is in a different domain. Thank you.
No, there isn't a way around him. Putting servers in the same forest requires a reinstallation of the unit. You can use DiRT to help you do it, but this isn't something that we document step by step, because this isn't a normal activity. The only real challenge you may have there naming. As the dirt trying to match the name in SQL with the directory during a restoration, if you have any overlap, you may have some problems. I had read the help file for dirt to get a better idea about the process of migration:

Having a problem with vmotion between two hosts with processors Intel E5640
Hi all.
We organize a group of 14 guests, each with ESX 4.0, build 261974 installed.
They are managed through vCenter 4.0.0 and construction 258672, vSphere client 4.0.0 builf 258672.
The hosts are blades from IBM, in a BladecenterH.
Some of the blades are older model HS21 (type 7995) with processors Intel Xeon E5440.
The rest of the blades are more recent model HS22V (type 7871) with processors Intel Xeon E5640.
We are currently replacing old HS21 blades with more the HS22 blades, so we just bought 7 HS22s, all with the same Intel E5640 processors located in the blades currently in service. One of the things that this transition will happen for us is allowing us to have the same processor type in all of our blades and remove vMotion compatibility problems we had in the past. We were unable to turn on CVS, because we would have had to shut down a cluster of virtual machines on the latest hosts and could not take this kind of failure. We will turn VCA after that.
Here's the question:
We just installed the first new knives, and when turn on us and try to vMotion VMs to it, it fails. He gives us the error standard vMotion on CPU register incompatibilities, and that we should read kb1993. The thing is, they all have the same processor. Same identifier type, same everything, yet for some reason vCenter is convinced they are incompatible. We checked things in BIOS, and they are all the same.
We are ideas, other than the new knives have a later rev BIOS than the old ones.
Any thoughts?
Thank you!
-Tim

Utility FNDLOAD between two different servers
Hi friends,
For the phase of the UAT of our project, we have a new server (server with RedHat Linux ES4 HP).
We need to migrate reports form the unfounded (IBM - AIX 5.3 p) server to the new.
FNDLOAD works between two different servers?
If not, please tell me the reason why it doesnot work between servers.
I would also like to know if there is a way to migrate data between two servers. As indicated in the documentation, it does not work between servers. You export the metadata and get an output file. Then, you take the output file and transfer it to the new source. Complete with examples, including the necessary part of XDOLoader.

VMotion between 2 Hosts with different processors
Hallo,
I have a server in my homelab I use for studies of VMsphere and I want to get a second machine to test advanced features such as HA, Vmotion etc.
My first server has a map of X9SCM-9 with processor Xeon E3-1230V2 (Ivy Bridge). I am currently running ESX 5.0 U2 on it.
I was counting on obtaining of material quality for the second host consumers because I don't want to spend a lot on it, so I thought that I need any CPU generation Ivy Bridge.
I tested today with a second machine with a Pentium G2020 Ivy Bridge, but when I try to Vmotion he says "the virtual machine requires physical features that are not available or disabled on the host... ».
So I figure there must be a difference in architecture regardless of the CPU beeing an Ivy Bridge CPU.
When I try to activate CVS it just me are going to the 'Nehalem' Version so my virtual machines running on host 1 would not be able to use all the features of the CPU since the Xeon.
So the question boils down to: what is the processor less which offer compatibility VCA L5?
Or is there something else to consider in VMotion between two hosts with different processors?
I got a shared storage, etc. of the same network configuration.
Thank you
Benjamin
Hi Benjamin,
For compatibility VCA L5 want to look at one of the following models, Intel CPU:
- Ivy Bridge: Series E3-1200-v2
- HASWELL
I would recommend mental health that before rushing and a CPU purchase, check if a cheaper option would be, as Jon mentions in suppresss some fo the CPU compatibility checks so obviously, this is not desirable in a production environment, and must be applied in your study of VMware Lab to the home address.
Hope this helps,
Simon
