vMotion CON DIFFERENT cpu VCA abilitato o not

Buongiorno a tutti,

MI trovo a fare questa domanda, visto che mi arrivano notizie da all the Party (Boss) the no comprendo, ovvero quali

MI dicono che e' possibile, dalla 5.1 e 5.5 do vMotion tra different abilitare VCA, e senza CPU' vero?

da cio che ho letto non mi seems, potete darmi confirmed?

The CPU, dei miei sono host different;

Intel Xeon X 7460 2.66 GHz (4 x 6)

Intel Xeon E7 - 8860 2.27 GHz (6 x 10)

Case, posso VCA tra queste CPU different abilitare?

IOC mi porta an extreme work the VM, the powerful meno della CPU prestazioni con?

Per abilitare EVC the e' necessario che all the Power-OFF siano VM?

The VM lavoreranno con prestazioni inferiori. Bet cioè alla più vecchia che hai nel cluster CPU.

You can abilitare VCA Reed a VM accese, my non potrai migrare what sugli host attive con più modern finchè not the spegni cpu.

Sorry to post a question, but I just haven't found the answer in the readme guides and admin I have for 4.1.  We use servers for our cluster, all HP DL380 G5 with the dual Xeon 5430 (quadcore).  We are looking to add a few boxes to the cluster, and we will most likely go with the HP DL380 G7 beings are current servers are almost two years now.  G7 will always have Xeon processors, but they will certainly have higher clock speeds to this processor will not match exactly.  In my view, that this used to be a problem in the past, when he came to VM vMotioning fast between the two different cpu.  My question is, is this even a question?  If I stay within the Intel Xeon family, I'm ok for vmotion between two different cpu?  The same of course, brand just diffenrent speeds and possibly different number of hearts.

  • Problems of VMotion with different CPU´s

    Hello

I have an ESX Cluster with 4 guests. These hosts have the following CPU´s:

    1 Intel Xeon 5160

    2 Intel Xeon 5160

    3 Intel Xeon L5320

    4 Intel Xeon L5335

    VMotion works fine without problems.

Now, I've added a cluster host 5th with Intel Xeon L5420

When I want to migrate a virtual computer, I get this message: ' cannot migrate from xxx to xxx: host CPU is not compatible with the requirements of virtual machine´s to CPUID level 0 x 1 'ecx' register. " Inconsistency detected for these features: SSE4.1

Before I bought the new hosts, I checked the compatibility matrix and I m sure that this processor is working.

How can I solve this problem? I read the KB1993 but I Don t get it :/

Any Idea´s? I Don t want to change each VM (there are 29 vm´s of the cluster).

Can I disable SSE4.1 for the new host?

You are right. Even if you get it to work, it would not be a supported configuration. To test this, you must configure ideally just a virtual machine to test with the appropriate changes based on KB #1993. Specifically, you can follow the instructions in the "Change the default mask" section for SSE4.1:

    Change the default mask

    Hey guys,.

I can't find info on it so I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

In SRM, geographically dispersed clusters can have different CPU providers? A group would be entirely AMD and the other an Intel.

I have no experience with MRS whatsoever, and since the VM will be restarted remoetely I think that it would work. If it was me, I would

Please consider my response as 'useful' or 'proper' marking

If I understand your question, you will not have a problem with different types of CPU in your clusters to protected site vs.recovery...  The only downside that I can think of is to old versions of Linux not having only not modules loaded into the kernel of the architecture of the chip.  I've personally done this and still have a single cluster of Intel that retrieves an AMD cluster, all virtual machines of RHEL 5.

If the VCVM is on the only shared storage remove the virtual machine from the old host and enter it on the new host by connecting the VI client to each host. TO register to browse the store of data and right click the .vmx file and click Save

If not on the shared storage (but I hope it is) you can copy the files from the virtual machine (*.vmdk and.) VMX file) from one host to another using the SCP. Then connect to the new host using the VI client and enter the VM VC

  • Sanity Check: Hardware compatibility: vMotion/CPU/VCA etc.

    Hi all

We currently have a DRS cluster with 6 hosts Dell Poweredge R610 with Intel Xeon 5540 or 5530 processors which, according to article KB (http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1991) are in Group D for the vMotion compatibility. (Nehalem-EP)

I want to add new hosts to the cluster and try again Dell R620s. These have Xeon CPU E5-2640. I can't find an article with the same level of detail for the new processors. The compatibility guide Vmware tells me that it is a Sandy bridge processor?

If I add hosts with newer processors to the cluster, be they work? Or do I have to turn on some sort of CVS mode?

If I read this article (KB VMware: best vMotion compatibility (EVC) processor support ) he gives to think that I would need to market the VCA Level2 (Nehalem). This would be 'disable' have the CPU features in the new host beyond what former processors... But what happens in 'x' time of years when all guests have disappeared - presumbaly I can then disable compatibility EVC mode so that all the features of the CPU are presented? This would have a negative impact on existing virtual machines?

Please could someone health mental check me or point me in the direction of something to reassure me?

    Thanks in advance

NB. Currently on vSphere 4.0, but the upgrade to 5/5.1 soon.

I suppose that once the VCA mode is activated, it will always be equal to the level of the 'down' (older?) (In this case Nehalem) CPU level up to what the last host with Nehalem processors is removed from the cluster.

    Yes, that's correct.

  • vMotion between different processors

On my last job, I had two clusters vmware, using four hosts with HP DL580 servers and the other with two hosts in a HP BLADE system, I don't remember the model.

So when I tried to move an active VM for clusters to each other, I got an error, so I'm looking here on community and I got the awnser is the reason the hosts had different processors and I can only move this virtual machine, if they are closed. If I can only move cold VM between my cluster.

OK im on a new company name and they had M$ Hyper-V and now we are migrating to VMWARE (cool ) we have two DELL Poweredge servers, one with two Quad-Core Xeon X 5470 and the other with two Xeon Quad - Core E5320.

So I guess I'm having a problem of fact a vmotion hot between it because the servers have different processors.

So im buying new processors, but I find only Xeon Quad-Core X 5365, I think that it corresponds to that of the X 5470 but with cache and diferrent clock.

My ask is, can I do a hot Vmotion with some VM of a Xeon X 5470 server on a Xeon X 5365 server.

Stability of Slackware, safety and simplicity are the best choice!

    Yes,

the vmotion VMs between different generations of cpu is only posible to put these hosts using Enhanced VMotion (CVS).

Improved compatibility for VMotion (EVC) simplifies VMotion compatibility issues

through the generations of CPU. EVC automatically configures the server with Intel CPU

FlexMigration or AMD - V extended Migration technologies

compatible with the old servers. After EVC is enabled for a cluster in the

VirtualCenter inventory, all hosts in this cluster are configured to

present identical CPU features and compatibility for VMotion CPU. The

features introduced by each host are determined by selecting a predefined EVC

base line. VirtualCenter does not allow the addition of hosts that cannot be

automatically configured to be compatible with EVC baseline.

To use CVS, you must run ESX Server 3.5 Update 2 or

highest with Virtual Center 2.5 Update 2 or higher and have only compatible CPUs

are listed in one of the following tables.

CVS does not allow for migration with VMotion between Intel and AMD processors.*

    VCA makes it much

easier to add servers with the new generation of processors in existing clusters

containing a material more former generation. Entering an EVC cluster servers are

automatically configured to be compatible with the hosts already in the

clusters. Since this process is automatic, EVC is very simple to use and

requires no expertise on CPU features and masks.

  • VMotion issues with cpu AMD 6276

    Hello

We have recently added several Dell M915 blades to our cluster (two chassis blade M1000e) - now, I have the problem that I can not vmotion a VM for these new devices, get the following error:

    fehler.png

The new leaves are equipped with 6276 opteron processors, while the old ones (also M915) use CPU 6134 - I ran 'cpuid' on the old and the new knives to compare.

First of all, the older host with processor opteron 6134:

    vmhost11_cpuid.png

Now, the new using 6276 CPU:

    vmhost15_cpuid.png

It is said "EVC support: no ' for the new... I was expecting "Gen 4", so I could lit EVC cluster and set it to level 3 to any compatible host. But that won't work, because vCenter then complain the new hosts supporting not level 3.

Any ideas what I could do? Is this a problem with the BIOS settings in the Dell hardware (I installed the latest version of the BIOS and all settings related to virtualization are on)? Or is it a problem with VMware, not yet fully support this CPU? Or is this CPU really it incompatible with older AMD processors?

    Thanks for any help,

    heinrich23 wrote:

AMD dropped the 3DNow! instructions of the newer processors.  However, you should be able to put all these machines in a cluster using the AMD Opteron Genesis 3 (no 3DNow!) VCA mode.

is there another way to activate the CEV on my existing cluster and does not create a new?

You can try to create a new cluster and select CVS it and move all your hosts to this cluster

should I turn off my vm all?

You will need to put the hosts in maintenance mode. So what you can do is put the host 1 in maintenance mode, virtual machines will move to host 2. Now move the new active EVC cluster host 1 and continue to do this until all of your hosts are in the cluster. You can try vMotion your VM 2 host to host 1 which is now in the new cluster, but it all depends on what your processor will hide VCA is activated... And if you cannot vMotion, virtual machine in a VCA not to an active evc cluster cluster, then Yes, you will have to turn off and restart your virtual machines in the new cluster

I also have SRM ad site.do I need to activate the CEV on the cluster, I have here (a different Vcenter)

    No u don't.

  • Compaq Presario CQ57-339wm: I can swap different CPU into a model motherboard Celeron?

    Hey all,.

I have a laptop Compaq Presario CQ57-339wm requiring a logic board replacement. According to the sticker on the Palm, it has an Intel Celeron processor clocked to Interior.

According to the CQ57, the motherboard service manual I ordered (reference number: 646177-001) is "for use only with the computer models equipped with an Intel Core i5 or i3 processor processor and a graphics subsystem with UMA video memory.

Since I have a Celeron CPU and motherboard instead, would replace this motherboard for the work of the Board of Directors i5? I think that the mobo, I ordered does not include a processor i5, just the current Board. I could swap the chip Celeron of the old Council to the Board of Directors i5, or that wouldn't work either? I have to install a compatible rod that matches the part number of the old mobo? (646174 001).

If it won't work, I return to the Commission, as I have not yet opened and order a compatible card. Moreover, if the installation of the Board of Directors will work, and I just need the compatible CPU, I could order one that would correspond to the reference, like this eBay i3.

I think that you understood. The Celeron and Core Intel models use a different motherboard with a different chipset and processors cannot be exchanged.
