  I had to reinstall Vista last night after my computer started to report that there is no bootable devices found. It took most of the day to complete the fresh install.   I too hate this pause button. It is for many people who want to play media without having to turn on the machine (well at loading Windows). Turning it off can cause some other headaches later.
