SRM with different CPU clusters?

Hey guys,.

I can't find info on it so I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

In SRM, geographically dispersed clusters can have different CPU providers? A group would be entirely AMD and the other an Intel.

I have no experience with MRS whatsoever, and since the VM will be restarted remoetely I think that it would work. If it was me, I would

remain consistent even if

Please consider my response as 'useful' or 'proper' marking

If I understand your question, you will not have a problem with different types of CPU in your clusters to protected site vs.recovery...  The only downside that I can think of is to old versions of Linux not having only not modules loaded into the kernel of the architecture of the chip.  I've personally done this and still have a single cluster of Intel that retrieves an AMD cluster, all virtual machines of RHEL 5.

    Hello gurus,

Let's start which is my goal. I need to create a virtual machine with different hardware (I have no problems with the HARD drive and RAM options). I need the CPU on the system invited to be Intel or SMA.

My host system is with Intel CPU and Intel part it I don't find any problem. But there the prompt with the SMA is the trickiest part. Does anyone know any thing or any software that can make this possible?

I also tried to build ESXi 5.5 as a guest on my workstation, but here I can't find how to (if possible at all) the CPU ADM.

PS Comments OS it is win2k3/8/12

    Thank you!

    Hello Asen,

You can abstract only that physically you have, so you can't emulate AMD CPUS on Intel CPU hardware.

For guest with AMD CPU instructions you must use physical server with the desired provider in your case with AMD processor installed server.

  • How to migrate a virtual VC server to another host ESX with different CPU ID

    Hello

by updating my equipment VI 3.5 of old AMD Single Core of AMD Quad-Core a problem has occurred: the new CPU´s of course have a different CPU - ID, so it is not possible to do a live migration of my virtual server VC from the old machine to the new one.

A migration cold is of course not possible, because after the stop server vc I ve no connection via VC Management Console... of course

How can I get my VC-virtual server running on new hardware, I guess that there must be a solution and I hope I m not the only one, who runs a virtual VC server and must change the material

I look forward to any possible solution, thank you very much.

If the VCVM is on the only shared storage remove the virtual machine from the old host and enter it on the new host by connecting the VI client to each host. TO register to browse the store of data and right click the .vmx file and click Save

If not on the shared storage (but I hope it is) you can copy the files from the virtual machine (*.vmdk and.) VMX file) from one host to another using the SCP. Then connect to the new host using the VI client and enter the VM VC

  • Add esx cluster with different cpu

    Hi all

    I have a cluster with 5 esx 4.0 u1-208167, which installed on IBM x 3550 M2 ((2 x Intel® Xeon™ processeur E5520) .)

    I want to add a server to server cluster .the is IMB x 3550 m3 (2 x Intel® Xeon™ processor E5620 4 c)

do I have to make a chenges on Esx servers / vm / vcenter when I add the new esx for my datacerter and to the cluster so I can do Vmotion / storage migrate this server in the cluater (I have the appropriate license and plug)?

    Thanks for the help

is there another way to activate the CEV on my existing cluster and does not create a new?

You can try to create a new cluster and select CVS it and move all your hosts to this cluster

should I turn off my vm all?

You will need to put the hosts in maintenance mode. So what you can do is put the host 1 in maintenance mode, virtual machines will move to host 2. Now move the new active EVC cluster host 1 and continue to do this until all of your hosts are in the cluster. You can try vMotion your VM 2 host to host 1 which is now in the new cluster, but it all depends on what your processor will hide VCA is activated... And if you cannot vMotion, virtual machine in a VCA not to an active evc cluster cluster, then Yes, you will have to turn off and restart your virtual machines in the new cluster

I also have SRM ad site.do I need to activate the CEV on the cluster, I have here (a different Vcenter)

    No u don't.

  • Problems of VMotion with different CPU´s

    Hello

I have an ESX Cluster with 4 guests. These hosts have the following CPU´s:

    1 Intel Xeon 5160

    2 Intel Xeon 5160

    3 Intel Xeon L5320

    4 Intel Xeon L5335

    VMotion works fine without problems.

Now, I've added a cluster host 5th with Intel Xeon L5420

When I want to migrate a virtual computer, I get this message: ' cannot migrate from xxx to xxx: host CPU is not compatible with the requirements of virtual machine´s to CPUID level 0 x 1 'ecx' register. " Inconsistency detected for these features: SSE4.1

Before I bought the new hosts, I checked the compatibility matrix and I m sure that this processor is working.

How can I solve this problem? I read the KB1993 but I Don t get it :/

Any Idea´s? I Don t want to change each VM (there are 29 vm´s of the cluster).

Can I disable SSE4.1 for the new host?

You are right. Even if you get it to work, it would not be a supported configuration. To test this, you must configure ideally just a virtual machine to test with the appropriate changes based on KB #1993. Specifically, you can follow the instructions in the "Change the default mask" section for SSE4.1:

    Change the default mask

    Hope that helps!

  • Cluster with different host - resource pools hardware?

    Hello

We have currently three generations of servers at base of AMD in our environment - with different CPU clock speeds.

Guests are split into three groups and VMs are grouped based on clock speed.

But frankly, it's a mess to administer.

We envisage the creation of a single cluster and using pools of resources.

But CPU resource pools take host speed of the CPU in return?

    - Or they just sure that VMs receive their share of CPU temps on loan-time partial?

    Best regards

    Martin

Pools of resources sharing works only when there is some conflict of resources.

-VMs in 'high' will appear on hosts with fast processors? - and get the most MHz?

The actions are only priority... Then no.

With a reservation... it depends on how much MHz offers...

    - Or they simply receive a high share of CPU time on a random host?

    By shars Yes...

    But remember the first sentence!

If you have enough of free resources, all virtual machines are also (for actions).

  • Licenses that merge with different activation time

    Hello

I want to merge two different activation time license. I found that there is a solution for this http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2006973

But some question appears in this operation:

1 time activation may differ by more than 30 days (a license has been purchased and activated in September and the other was purchased and active in June) type of licenses will be the same example - VMware vSphere Standard for 1 CPU with 1 year of support in version 5.5, how support for this looks?

    2. what type of license do need me for server with 2 processors with 8 cores and 192 GB of RAM, this license fits my needs? Is there a single license covering such a feature?

    On the HP site, I found only licnses for 1 CPU http://h30094.www3.hp.com/searchresults.aspx?store_id=11 & search_id = 67 & dept_id = 1328

    3. should I VMware vSphere Standard at least to connect to vCenter VMware?

THX in advance for any replay :-)

From vSphere 5.5 all basic and memory restrictions have been removed, and licenses are simply based on the number of processors physical Sockets (see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2064117).

What you must ensure is that the license key you want to assign has at least the capacity of the CPU. You can merge the license keys for the same version/edition even with different dates of SnS. However, this will not change SnS and end dates will always be displayed ion the MyVMware portal.

vCenter Server is optional and licensed separately and is necessary if you want to manage a cluster host, or use additional features (for example, the cloning, live migration,...)

  • VMotion between 2 Hosts with different processors

    Hallo,

I have a server in my homelab I use for studies of VMsphere and I want to get a second machine to test advanced features such as HA, Vmotion etc.

My first server has a map of X9SCM-9 with processor Xeon E3-1230V2 (Ivy Bridge). I am currently running ESX 5.0 U2 on it.

I was counting on obtaining of material quality for the second host consumers because I don't want to spend a lot on it, so I thought that I need any CPU generation Ivy Bridge.

I tested today with a second machine with a Pentium G2020 Ivy Bridge, but when I try to Vmotion he says "the virtual machine requires physical features that are not available or disabled on the host... ».

So I figure there must be a difference in architecture regardless of the CPU beeing an Ivy Bridge CPU.

When I try to activate CVS it just me are going to the 'Nehalem' Version so my virtual machines running on host 1 would not be able to use all the features of the CPU since the Xeon.

So the question boils down to: what is the processor less which offer compatibility VCA L5?

Or is there something else to consider in VMotion between two hosts with different processors?

I got a shared storage, etc. of the same network configuration.

    Thank you

    Benjamin

    Hi Benjamin,

For compatibility VCA L5 want to look at one of the following models, Intel CPU:

    • Ivy Bridge: Series E3-1200-v2
    • HASWELL

I would recommend mental health that before rushing and a CPU purchase, check if a cheaper option would be, as Jon mentions in suppresss some fo the CPU compatibility checks so obviously, this is not desirable in a production environment, and must be applied in your study of VMware Lab to the home address.

    Hope this helps,

  • SRM with virtual disks not replicated RDM Recovery Plan.

We try to do a test of SRM with a Virtual Machine that has disks Virutal RDM attached, however these volumes are not replicated with RecoverPoint, they exist already on the side of DR, so basically we're already reproducing machine virtual and it's virtual disks, but these 3 RDM are outside it.  The reason for this is because they have massive volumes that had previously been replicated using another product before virtualize us and there is no need to replicate this info again because the volumes are never going to change.

    Then...

It is done within the SRM, when you look at tab groups protection, we see a warning "not configured VMs: 1" because SRM / RecoverPoint believe that this virtual machine has volumes that are not replicated.

Is there any way to exclude this or saying SRM to ignore what we will manually add the RDM on the DR side ourselves?  Also on the side of DR, I don't see the VM under hosts and Clusters as I see the replication of other virtual machines, it is because MRS. think he isn't entirely reproduced?  Or is it a manual step where you need to create a virtual machine on the side of the DR and to disable this option in order to see it?  Also, we see what VM listed on the virtual computers tab for this group of special protection, but the other two VMs residing on the sam MON appear and I already tested successfully the two machines.

Here are the settings in the file for the RDM .vmx

    Hello

You do not see the DR VM (usually it's called shadow or the space reserved VM), because currently the VM is not protected by SRM. You can't manually create.

What you can do is run the Wizard "To configure Protection" for your virtual machine. One of the steps, "storage options" or something like this, allows you to select specific disks and mark as detached, allowing you to protect the computer with disks not replicated virtual.

  • VMotion compatibility - different CPU

Sorry to post a question, but I just haven't found the answer in the readme guides and admin I have for 4.1.  We use servers for our cluster, all HP DL380 G5 with the dual Xeon 5430 (quadcore).  We are looking to add a few boxes to the cluster, and we will most likely go with the HP DL380 G7 beings are current servers are almost two years now.  G7 will always have Xeon processors, but they will certainly have higher clock speeds to this processor will not match exactly.  In my view, that this used to be a problem in the past, when he came to VM vMotioning fast between the two different cpu.  My question is, is this even a question?  If I stay within the Intel Xeon family, I'm ok for vmotion between two different cpu?  The same of course, brand just diffenrent speeds and possibly different number of hearts.

    Thank you

  • VM assigned different CPU

We have 7 x servers in a cluster with different Intel XEON CPU and have used CVS to the Intel XEON Core 2 processor clock.

I gave one of my virtual machines 4 x CPU, and it came with the processor in Device Manager-

    (1) Intel XEON E7330 @ 2.40 GHz

    (2) Intel XEON E7330 @ 2.40 GHz

    (3) Intel XEON X 5450 @ 3 .00GHz

    (4) Intel XEON X 5450 @ 3 .00GHz

Is this a problem or is it planned? How will this affect the performance of the virtual machine?

CPU so the other 2 CPU have been added later.

Well, there is the answer, you have configured the virtual computer, during this time he has been migrated, then you added 2 CPU more.  Without doubt it is on, then you the set out to reconfigure the CPU when you the lit, he changed to the host 5450, is why the 2nd CPU shows also different materials.  It can show that, but performance will be a host is on, despite that show properties.

Windows is not supposed to change the material, so it probably was not designed to "clear" the processor... once it configures the HAL, is that show properties.
