• How to control vmotion license to the ESX Server

  I have 5 servers ESX 3.5 U3 in my vCenter.  Two are using host license and three are in a cluster and using the server license assigned by my license server, that runs on vCenter.  However, my ESX servers two stand alone using the host license receive a license of vmotion by my license server and my ESX servers in my cluster but cannot get a license of vmotion because their attributed to the wrong ESX Server.

  How can I get the vmotion license released by the ESX servers who don't need and make it available on my ESX Server who need?  My three ESX servers in cluster shared storage for vmotion and don't have my two stand alone ESX servers.

  I tried simple things, like the disconnection of servers and ESX servers in reconnection vCenter, re-reading of license files, restart the license server, etc..  license and vCenter server is 2.5 U4.

  go to the configuration tab and click Networking, you have a Port VMkernel configuration?  If so, edit click the vSwitch properties, change your VMkernel port settings and uncheck the box that says VMotion: enabled.

  Yes, the change went through.  The change has no impact the memory test because the presentation test worked how the actual process should have worked throughout.  Now, they are synchronized.

• VCenter eval Operations Management Suite License change

  I'm trying the product eval, which is great BTW, but I want to know if it is away from changing the license for the eval for anything other than "the company."  I'm assuming that the eval is the full licensed version, but realistically we will buy something less.  Is there a way to change the eval to reflect the 'Foundation', 'Standard' or 'Advanced '?  I would like to see the product with the limited functionality because it is difficult to determine what are the options in which version.  Thank you.

  Just to make sure we're all on the same page, be aware that product edition names change in version 5.6... When 5.6 released, I'll try and remember to update this message/thread with the mapping between these product editions.

  I write this, because you're talking about the Foundation, which is NOT available for 5.0.  The Foundation provides access to the Victoria Cross analytical performance Ops only, no capacity planning.  As far as I know, no license is required, but you will need to run vSphere 5.1.  Just install the VAPP, register with vCenter and you'll be good to go.

  Standard/advanced/enterprise suites include all the features of the vC to vSphere UI Ops - there is no difference.  The main difference for vC Ops Advanced/Enterprise is that you will have access to the custom user interface that offers the possibility to build dashboards that incorporate third-party adapters as well as some cards of products VMware (like Hyperic and vCD).  Standard does not provide this functionality.

  So, the short answer... to see the differences in the features of the product that you need to wait up to 5.6 is GA so you can watch Foundation (no permit required).  Otherwise, all versions of 5.6 have the same functionality in the user interface of vSphere.

  When I try to migrate virtual machines to a store of data to another it gives an error. But if I migrate a virtual computer (from storage to another) it looks ok:

  -vCenter 4.1.0 (licensed as vCenter Server Foundation)

  -An ESX 4.0 U2 server and ESX 4.1 server.

  My license for servers is vSphere 4 Standard license for 6 processors. The ESX 4.1 have 2 CPUs and the ESX 4.0 U2 have 4 processors.

  When I activate this license can I use vMotion ESX 4.1 and I can't use vMotion in ESX 4.0, but I can use it with the evaluation license. Why is this happening? The Standard license for vSphere allows various characteristics 4.1 and 4.0? What type of permit do I need? (I can't update 4.1 because this server is not compatible)

  Because evaluation is Enterprise Plus 60 days. vMotion was the standard for 4.1.

  Ive been running two ESXi4 host under a free license until I bought Essentials and added to vCenter. I allocated licenses to them, but I can not enable vMotion VMKernel properties. When I check the box, I get an error saying I need to update the license.

  When I check the licenses on the host computer, I see the following:

  VSphere new license has changed. So now, the license is given the CPU (up to 6 cores cpu PR.)

  If you need: 12 Enterprise license. and 1 vSphere vCenter license

  VMotion, DRS and HA is a part of the license of the company. So no need of additional licenses.

  Is there a way to activate the permanent license? I already rebooted the device.

  If you really want to change the priority before then, you can use "license change low priority SSL_VPN" at the command prompt preferred to reduce the priority of low evaluation license, making it the active permanent license.
