VMotion recommended Teaming

Dear team,

I created a new vSwitch1 and added two physical network adapter on vSwitch1.

Then, I created two vmknic1 and vmknic2 and activated on the vSwitch1 vMotion.

I just want to confirm, nic teaming this is just or not, need your help on the same.

  • vMotion VLAN\Distributed vSwitch Networking question

I am facing a strange problem and was hoping someone might be able to enlighten. I have a vCenter cluster that contains 5 hosts. Four of the guests standard vSwitches and a host uses a distributed vSwitch. The four hosts who use standard vSwitches have a NETWORK card dedicated for vMotion network. The only host that uses the vSwitch distrubted has two NICS in a team. I followed the instructions listed here to set up the configuration (http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2007467)

Three standard vSwitch hosts are able to ping to the active IP address for the host by using the distributed vSwitch while one of the hosts using a standard vSwitch is unable to ping the host by using the distributed vSwitch.

If it was a problem with the distributed vSwitch or etherchannel configured on the Cisco switch for the collection of NETWORK adapters, I think that none of the other guests could ping the IP address, but they can. I also confirmed that the vMotion VLAN is configured on all Cisco switches and is to be shared between all hosts resources.

I am at a loss to explain why a host is unable to communicate with the host distributed vSwitch on the VLAN of vMotion. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

The problem I was experiencing was due to an incorrect configuration. After talking with a technician from VMWare, he explained to me that you should not use a configuration of etherchannel on the switch that connects to NICs hosts vMotion. The reason relates to the policy associated with the map NETWORK load balancing team.

For etherchannel configuration work, politics of load balancing for the NIC team must be defined, 'route based on IP hash. You are not able to use this strategy to load with vMotion NIC team balancing. The policy load balancing for a correct vMotion NIC team would be 'road based on the original virtual port code '. This is because a NETWORK adapter is active while the other is standby.

After removing the switch etherchannel configuration and redo my setup according to the above referenced article, guests may communicate on the network of vMotion of appropriately. I asked VMWare technology if there is no indication as to why the three hosts were working while we were not. He did not have an answer and is surprised that these other three hosts were working with the configuration I had initially.

  • After effects 2015 paralyzed rendering of the output

After scratching my head about why my budget for a block of makes was far away, I noticed that the multi-core options are missing in 2015 of the AE. After a few tests, it seems that AE 2015 is slow to render that AE 2014 on iMac 2013 up to 6 x.

Why is he out (like not a beta) if it's not ready? It's cost me time and money. Same hour in 2015 of the AE rendering is 11 min in AE 2014, which is absurd.

Is there some settings that I might be missing or has Adobe screwed the dog on it?

    Adobe has screwed up.

They did not communicate to their customers. The AE team has tried to talk to people from these changes, but few people know even that they have a blog, still less read: keep previous versions installed when installing applications CC 2015

After that effects CC 2015 is not a full version of the software from previous versions in some way. It includes some handy new features and performance, but it doesn't have everything. This blog explains some it: features not available in after effects CC 2015 (13.7)

AE CC 2015 is the first step in an major overhaul of the architecture, separating the rendering engine from the user interface for the first time in the history of AE 20 + years. It's a big job and it's clearly still ongoing. It is a necessary condition

step to improve performance of After Effects, but it takes awhile (and versions) for them to pass through it. Thus, during this period of transition since they are the introduction of elements of the new

architecture, it is sometimes easier to use the old version to do a job. How to find and install a previous Version of Adobe Apps in 2015 CC

The AE team is too small to cross just as fast to do. Adobe seems to have AE a very high priority.

A year ago the AE team asked to the user (on their blog) for your comments. Did we want them to continue to work as usual on AE or we like to focus on improving the speed and performance and not give us a lot of new features. Resounding we told them that we want focusing them on speed! If the majority of team æ (minuscule) work for more than a year to rewrite the code from the heart of EI. The performance of interactivity is much improved after effects CC 2015 (especially if you are updated to the 13.7.0), but improving rendering performance is not yet here. As they promised one of the blog posts I've linked, we should have the new engine in a future version. I hope it's soon!

Recommend team AE (and I do): knit in 2015 CC to make use of the more vivid interface, the better management of the expression, etc. and then open this file project even in CC 2014 to return. (No need to "save under", something weird;) AE CC 2014 open AE CC 2015 projects very well.) This saves me time because I can work faster in 2015 CC - I don't have to wait as the rendering engine to catch up with me whenever I make a change. (It's really a significant improvement over the older versions.) And then I made just with CC 2014 and so I have the same speed as before rendering.

  • NEWBIE: vSwitch in a matter of the host Cluster Configuration

    Hello

I'm pretty new to vmware and will be starting my first implementation in the coming days.  I had training and have a very good understanding of what it is I'm doing it but have a few issues of networking.

If we do not have Enterprise Plus and must use Standard vSwitches on each host in the cluster (using 3 host cluster), that mean each virtual NETWORK adapter configurations on each vswitch hosts will be exactly the same?  So, if I put the vMotion group of ports on host A to use the physical network (vmnic0 and vmnic1) interface cards whose 192.168.10.1 IP address et.2.  It means that I then configure the same IPS for vMotion Port Group (vmnic0 and vmnic1) on host B and C of the host in the cluster?

If this is the case then wouldn't NIC physical on the three ESX hosts in the cluster need to have same IP configs, in which case wouldn't that cause conflicts of intellectual property, no?   Please advise if I am not clear enough.  Thankx.

    Rick,

You would need separate IP addresses for each VMkernel port that you are creating.  Thus, for example, if you create 2 VMkernel ports per host, 1 host could avoir.1 et.2, host 2 may avoir.3 et.4 and host 3 can be affectee.5 et.6.

But remember, you are not assigning IP addresses for uplink adapters (vmnic), you will then assign to the VMkernel Ports.  Your ESXi host will have a VMkernel default port for management (created during installation) which will have the IP address of your hosts assigned management.

If you create a separate network for vMotion (recommended), this would require a VMkernel port separated with the checkbox "Use this port for vMotion" checked, and who would live on, most likely, a separate vSwitch with its own uplinks.  The VMkernel port would have its own unique IP address.  You will need to repeat this configuration (with specific to host IPs) on each host.

  • HA and DRS will work if Vcenter is down?

    Hi guys,.

I just wanted to know if HA or DRS will work if my grave vcenter fails for some reason any. If so how did information cluster with itself to restart the machine and adjust the charges.

    Thank you

    Hello

HA will work, because there is a HA agent that is running on each host, and guests are watching each other and keep the list virtual machines need to be restarted in the event of a failure of the host running. vCenter is used just to (of) enable and configure HA.

DRS will NOTwork without vCenter, because vMotion recommendations are calculated by the vCenter service, and it also initiates the process of migration.

  • Several subnets on a NETWORK adapter with BladeCenter?

We have an IBM BladeCenter H chassis with switches Cisco 3012.  Each blade server is configured with a total of 4-port NETWORK adapter.  Our initial intention was to 2 4 network cards for the traffic of the virtual machine and the others, two for tolerance to the failures/vmotion/management team.  It has recently been brought to my attention that there is another necessary subnet for some of the virtual machines that will run on these servers.  So, my question is, can I have access to multiple networks (10.1.1.x & 192.168.0.x) through two NICs servile mentioned above to the traffic of VMware?  Keep in mind it's bladecenter environment, I have the external ports on the back of the chassis of the physical connectivity.  All documentation showing this would be the icing on the cake.  Thanks in advance.

You should be able to this with trunking and tagging of vlan. This will allow you to pass the traffic of multiple VLANs and label it.

  • Recommended management and vmotion redundancy?

    Hello

Is it recommended to have vmotion and management on the same vswitch for redundancy with at least 2 NIC or the separate vSwitches for each with dual NIC by minimum switch?

I don't expect a saturation where no traffic pulse spend more with a binding rising gigabit.

BTW. what I forgot to mention in my previous post, it's that I usually work with different VLANS on groups of ports and physical ports configured as trunk ports.

  • NIC Teaming ESXi 4.0 recommendations

    Hi everyone-

A very easy for you, but just need another opinion.  I have several hosts in my current environment of the virtual machine.  I add over several hosts.  Good grouping network adapters as well as the good deligation of the NIC issue.  What we have to work with-> 4 Integrated NIC (vmnic0-3), 4 network interface cards PCI (vmnic4-7), 4 (vmnic8-11) PCI network interface cards.  Not new in the world of the VM, but new to implement environmental...

The current provision in the existing NETWORK adapter is as follows:

vmnic0/vmnic3-> teamed for console Mgmt (vSwitch0)

    vmnic2, vmnic4, vmnic5-> available to the virtual machine (vSwitch1)

It was setup by an admin before vm and I do not have a warm and fuzzy about how the management console is associated with and worries me because in my documentation, it States a specific nic should be designated for the vmotion, correct?  And this isn't on here too, even if the vMotion is enabled.

What I would do is this way for team management console NIC

vmnic0/vmnic4-> where NIC card breaks down, PCI NIC is ready and capable and vice versa (fault tolerance)

Should I activate all the network adapters on the host?  Which would give me 2 integrated and available for the VM PCI 8.  I guess the network cards more better but sometimes too much of a good thing is bad...  Also is there a specific way to designate 2 just NIC for vMotion or is only a mute point?

    Thank you for your comments.

    > vmnic0 / vmnic4-> in the case where NIC card breaks down, PCI NIC is ready and able, and vice versa (fault tolerance)

Yes, it's better than vmnic0/vmnic3 (of one physical chip)

    > Should I use all the network adapters on the host?

Depends on what you want. Too many network cards will give nothing, except hedache if all VM traffic can be transmitted through 1 Gbit link without performance degradation.

    > Also is there a specific way to designate 2 just NIC for vMotion or is only a mute point?

Use NIC teaming personal - seam vmnic1/vmnic5 as active/active or active / standby for VMkernel on vMotion portgroup.

  • NIC Teaming recommended

    Hi all

I would like to enable the consolidation of NETWORK cards in my ESXi 5.0 environment. Below is given my details to set up the laboratory.

    3 ESXi 5.0 servers

ESXi all have 4 NIC cards

    Requirement: -.

Grouping of NETWORK adapters for virtual machines (VM running in their own VIRTUAL local area network)

I want to activate the grouping of NIC for VM in vSwitch1 and VM will be in the VLAN. I provide 2 NIC to the VM, 1 NETWORK card will be given to the Management Console, 1 NETWORK card will be for vMotion.

Please find below the attached screenshot.

    NIC Teaming.JPG

Please suggest your views on this topic How to proceed on this matter.

No need to modify the policy at all. Since my first post:

-Configure the VLAN 100 management network and set active =, = vmnic1 vmnic0 paused on the port group

-Add a port group vMotion with VLAN 101 and set vmnic0 = standby, vmnic1 = active on the port group

With this configuration, you would have two vSwitches with two uplinks from each. The first for management/vMotion configured as described above and the vSwitch for the networking of virtual machines with two NICs paid on assets.

    Hello world

I am trying to Setup has a network of development for one of my developers.  Here's what we want to do:

    2 Windows Server 2003 systems, a Windows 7 system

One will be the Exchange 2007 System

Box of Windows 7 will be a member of the domain and connect to Exchange.

We want the domain controller to get out of the internet to get updates, but does not interfere with the updated field. The area of Exchange should be able to talk to the Windows 7 box and the domain controller.

I tried to put this together and I can get the DC talk to internet using the bridge or the NAT mode, but I can't seem to get the other systems to talk to the domain controller.  All three systems have 1 segment of LAN on them (the domain controller also has a connection NAT/BRIDGE)

Well. Since you were talking about just having the DC out of the Windows updates, it makes more sense to have everything in the sandbox. You can also think to implement the domain controller to also perform WSUS functions to other systems so that they never need to go to the internet for updates.

Network invited only is for the creation of isolated networks that don't affect all segments of the LAN network wherever you go. With the domain controller in the mixture, you'll be able to have the full domain feature in this sandbox. If you leave the DC with the connection to the regular LAN, someone from the management team of network, or a righteous person browsing the network, could it (or subsequently) see this area and raise questions on this subject. It is much easier to have the network of bubbles on your system, which does not, connect only to explain why it has yet another (foreign) area on the network.

  • VMotion traffic isolation, vlan trunking

We have 2 full length M910 blade servers sitting in the dell blade enclosure. Installed esxi 5.0 on the two blades and joined them to the cluster.

Each server blade full length a 8 network cards.  2 ports double aboard the card NETWORK and 2-port Ethernet mezzanine card.  All are connected to the internal cisco switch 3130 installed on the module e/s A1, A2, B1 and B2. all the internal switches are stacked together by the network team. and there is a link to internal switch (uplink) and an external switch (ports) that are on the vlan 137

All the ports that are connected to the esxi host are configured as trunk on the switches of internal physical cisco blade by the network team. in our total case 16 ports (8 cards x 2 servers) are fixed to the internal trunk on cisco switch and there is internal cisco switch uplink and our external switch (located on vlan 137)

On esxi5.0, we set up a big flat switch affecting all physical network cards to Vswitch 0.
Please refer page for groups of ports configured.

To isolate the vmotion traffic, we have configured tag (150) vlan different for vmotion. but vmotion does not work. Unable to ping of vmotion ips with each other.  But if I change brand VLAN to 137. vmkping works on the other and work of vmotion.

If I change brand VLAN other than 137 to any group of ports (for example, management or virtual machine), I'm losing connection to the corresponding port group.

I think that missing configure something on the blade switches internal cisco (3130). Please advise on what needs to be configured. I know that kind of why trunking is required. If you could explain the exact purpose of why the necessary circuits for esx would be great.

What is advised to configure a virtual switch, such as a large flat switch or multiple switches
Assigning to each switch port group. recommended configuration to enable balancing the increased load of incoming and outgoing and fail over.  detailed explanation would be really useful for non admins networks

I will try to describe one of the possible configurations.

    First some facts/support:

    • 2 ESXi hosts
    • 4 blade switches
    • 1 external switch
    • 8 NICs in each server Blade (2 NICs for each of the switches)
    • vmnic0 and vmnic4 are connected to two different switches
    • different subnets / VLAN for vMotion (100), management (101) and VM networks (102,...)
    • all VLANS represent them different IP subnets

    Virtual network configuration:

    • 2 vSwitches: 1 for management, 1 for VM networks and vMotion
    • vSwitch0 for management and vMotion (vmnic0 + vmnic4)
--> Management ports (VLAN 101) Group: vmnic0 (active), vmnic4 (at rest)
-> vMotion Port Group: (VLAN 100): vmnic4 (active), vmnic0 (at rest)
    • vSwitch1: VM networks (vmnic1.. 3 + vmnic5...) 7)
      -> VM 1 (VLAN 101) port group
      -> Port VM 2 (VLAN 102) group
      -> ...

    Blade switches:

    • all the VLANS configured in the virtual network are present
    • all ports of downlink to the ESXi hosts are configured to trunk mode, all the VLANS allowed
    • at least 2 uplinks and the external switch configured as a trunk, EtherChannel (LACP)
    • ports of rising and descending liaison (on each of the switches) are a group of track link state

    External switch:

    • all the VLANS configured in the virtual network are present
    • four channels of Port/EtherChannels (LACP), one to each switch blade

You can configure the VLANS on switches separately or by VTP. In any case, all the VLANS should be present on the switches of. If you need to route traffic between some VLANs, you must either set up a router on your network, or - in the case where the switches support and are properly authorized - configure routing ip (Inter VLAN routing).
