VMware converter restarts the physical server after cold clone

Hey

This can already city, but I can't find any discussion about it. I do a few P2Vs using the bootable disk to Vmware converter 4.1.0 cold clone. We have not all KVM/IP switches, I visit the server room to check the status of the conversion. The problem I have is that once the converter is completed, it randomly restarts the physical server, I converted (does not seem to happen to any of them). Of course, I don't want the physical server switch on again as changes could be made to it. I don't see any option in the converter to tell him not to restart or even stop that would be ok?

Has anyone encountered this problem and maybe a solution?

See you soon

This is a very dirty hack that will do what you want

Edit the coldclone.iso and delete the file... \I386\bootfix.bin.

If you delete this file from the CD will not be asked to "press any key to boot from the CD" - instead, it will always start in the CD.

So this also means you must change the boot sequence for the physical machine BIOS to boot from the CD-ROM.

Then - even if the CD Coldclone restarts for unknown reasons - it will never restart under the original system, but raise the CD.

    Hello

For sure in the Converter 4 there is an option for the source stop server after migration.

Below you will find a screen of VMware converter 5 with the option you are looking for. It is available at the end of the migration Assistant in OPTION --> option advance section

I can convert Windows servers on the ESX Server without any problems. Can someone translate this myself and I would like to know how to work around errors?

    Thank you

    Shannon

On the Linux server you are converting.  When the converter reaches step 3 Options display/change the last option is called Helper VM Network.  You can change this option and add an ip address.  The ip address must be on the same network to your default gateway on your Linux server.

  • Hot cloning - let the physical server running then?

I have a question for the Vmware Converter. If I understand correctly, you can use hot Clone to clone a physical server while it is running. Of course, that seems very well so you don't get no downtime during conversion.

But, if the reason for this conversion is to migrate from physical to virtual, what happens if the physical server continues to operate after the conversion? Even just a minute can be enough to have changed the original system, perhaps a database or other stuff, that will make the new virtual instance "incorrect."

So how does this normally? If you want to virtualize a server that has a system that interacts with users either or other servers, how will stop instantly change?

OK, even if you are in your downtime window it would be preferable to perform the validation of the server application.

What we normally do, is check the event logs and do well for sure there no new errors that are produce after the p2v (physical 2 virtual), especially application or system related event.  We will also perform a few reboots of the (virtual) system and sometimes we also had to remove some old drivers.  We have sometimes came across problems with NETWORK cards keeping the old ipconfig when migrating.

When supply us the new VM give us it a whole new value of intellectual property and test it with the other physical system down.  After correct validation go us ahead and leave the virtual running.  We usually have to master the physical machine in the datacenter for about two weeks and then begin the process of decommissioning.

One thing most definitely, you want to do is make sure to install vmware tools on the virtual server.  I know it's probably obvious, but many people forget.

    Hope this helps,

  • VMware Converter fails on physical client - not enough space

    Hello

I try to use VMware Converter on a physical client that runs Windows 7 and get this error message:

Failed: The VSS snapshots cannot be stored because there is not enough space on the source volumes or because the source computer has not all NTFS volumes. Error code:
    2147754783 (0x8004231F).

When you run DISKPART - VOLUME LIST I can see that the two partitions is formatted with NTFS.

Anyone have any idea why the process fails?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Curiosities: what happens if I restart the NFS server?

    Hi guys,.

I use Linux as a NFS data store. I'm just curious, regularly there as updates of the kernel, etc. that requires a reboot. What happens if I restart the NFS server without:

    1. turn off the virtual machine on it

    2. without disconnecting the ESXi host data store

What is the proper way to restart the NFS server?

    Thanks ^^

If you mean 'a good' (without no timeout error appears in the log), then delete NFS datastore is the whole procedure before you restart the NFS server. Unlike datastore VMFS, by removing the NFS datastore, that this will not completely remove the storage at all, instead you only remove it from the ESX host and you can reconnect the NFS mounting even whenever you want.

  • VMWare Converter cause the system to hang to cold start 96% and no converter available to the licensee of vSphere 4.1

    Hello

I'm trying to convert a Windows 2008 Server; everything seems to go along very well until we reach 96% and then it causes either the server BSOD or just hang.  I have read and found mention of the cold start conversion which is apparently available to subscribers from business 3.x.

Does anyone have a good suggestion as to what I might try next?

I have attached the logs, but I don't know where to look (aside from the bottom of the last log).

If you have a license for vCenter Server 4.1, you should be able to download the latest converter BootCD. You will find when you go to the vSphere download section and click on the 'View history' link for the vcenter Server. From there, select modules and VMware vCenter Server 4.0 Update 3

  • Logging.XML file resets after you restart the managed server

    Hi all

I modified the logging.xml file because I implemented a Logger. But ADF custom after you restart the server, SOA, logging.xml file get automatically back to the unmodified state, all this means that I modified was not.

    Am I missing something?

    Please suggest!
    Kind regards
    Shah

    Hi Shah
In the EPS group, usually there is a set of Configuration files are synchronized to all of AdminServer breaks the run. A simple example is like file config.xml and some files of data sources, files, ldap, etc. Whenever we reboot the Soa or bam managed servers, they go to AdminServer and obtain a copy of these files. So, if you make any changes directly on the managed server computers, then can be is getting crushed when you restart the servers. Check the timestamp of all these files. Make the changes on the side means Admin on the machine where you have AdminServer running. If all goes well, soa/bam should get these files at startup.

  • BPEL process instance does not start execution after restarting the BPEL server

I use the server Oracle BPEL 10.1.2 under Windows with the data store of dehydration Oracle lite 10G.

I have an a BPEL (proc1) process that calls another BPEL (proc2) to synchronously process. PROC1 is also called proc3 (also a BPEL process, but probably is not serious) synchronoulsy in parallel with proc2.

proc2 has a wait of ~ 30 seconds into it. Call of proc1, proc2, as soon as I stop BPEL. Now, when I restart the server BPEL, proc2 instance completes execution. But I don't see the bodies of proc1 and proc3 in the BPEL console.

    Here are my questions:

    1. If proc1 called proc2 and proc3 at the same time, shouldn't see the case of the proc2 proc3 at the same time? I can only see proc2 does not even proc1.

    2. why proc1 resume execution after the BPEL server restarts?

    Pointers appreciated.

    2. why proc1 resume execution after the BPEL server restarts?

Are there points any dehydration proc1 as receive or control point?

  • Migrate CUCM, CUP and CUC VMS from the physical server Dell to a UCS

    Hi all

We have 3 virtual machines from one physical server to Dell, we want to migrate those virtual machines from a server of the UCS.

    Reference Dell physical server:

    Model: PowerEdge M610

    UCS: Version of UCS B200 M4 3.0 (2 c)

I was wondering if just copy all the files of the virtual machine to another server or there is another procedure to do this... and also we need new licenses of vmware?

    Thank you very much!!

    Kind regards!

ESXi licenses is up to you, you might have bought it so that the UCS, or buy directly from VMWare, but you need to license.

As for traffic, if you have vCenter, you can move the virtual machines using it (vMotion and/or Storage vMotion), or if not, you can perform a cold migration.

  • Restart the display server

    Hi guys

I have Vmware View Server version 3.1.2 we have problems

for now, we have about 100 people connected and about 60 waiting to connect to the virtual machines. It is a call Server

Basically, I don't know why the view server said that is no longer part of the field and no more people cannot connect using the wyse... now people who are connecting are working well...

My question, restart this server in others to join the domain it will be current disconnec 100 people working?

    Thank you very much

OK, if they are in direct contact, you should be fine.  The vdi portal will be down, but it won't affect connections.    You can also use netstat on the broker for the logins from the list.
