VMWare Fusion (trial) vs Parallels (currently own)

Hello

I need a virtual machine to run Win ME on my iMac (Leopard 10.5.7) 24 "3.06 ghz with Nvidia Geforce 8800 GS.

I have win me or Win 98 to run my Oxford English Dictionary CD-ROM 2nd ed. worm. 2 (this isn't any dictionary - cost me about $400 in 2000). That is why only that I have to run a PC! I can just barely run the OED in Parallels. Parallels does not support Win 98 or Win Me. Do not load the virtual tools; the display is only 16 colors... Victoire Me sucks Parallels. BUT at least the OED will work on Parallels (even if in a sad state). I want to buy VMWare because Win Me over like a champ and looks a lot like VMWare Fusion. It all seemed too good to be true that I explored the trial I downloaded VMware. Well, it was too good to be true. VMware, the OED CD-ROM Cdilla Safedisc 1 protection will not allow the data disk must be authenticated.

Why, why charge Parallels the OED on Win ME without problems of authentication, but VMWare can not? (The OED also worked well on Virtual PC, 4, 5 and 6.)

If anyone can help get VMware to load my copy legally purchased of the OED, I buy VMWare Fusion in blink of an eye.

BTW, I'm not the only user of the OED facing this problem. There are others on other forums on the internet who wants to hear that their beloved OED can be run with VMWare without having to buy the new version of the OED. The charge to their former owners of the OED for the new native Mac version of the OED is $ 295. (There is no price upgrade for Mac users because it was not a Mac version of the OED since the beginning of the 1990s. Only Windows versions that are entangled with the atrocious Cdilla Safedisc protection were on the market. Therefore, run the OED on a virtual PC. Yes, Yes, another sad story. )

Hope that there is no help there. I'm used to my own problems, but I am confused as to why VMWare which seems so much better than Parallels to handling Win ME can not open the OED as painless as Parallels.

I can't wait to start an arms race, but you can try adding the following to your virtual machine configuration file:

monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = "TRUE"

If this does not work, try the following:

monitor.virtual_exec = "hardware"

In both cases, you must remove these configuration options once you have completed the installation.

  • Buy VMware Fusion 7, but the v5 download and run the merger also?

I looked on the website of VMware, but impossible to find the answer to this question:

A customer can purchase VMware Fusion version 7 (the current version) but also to download and run an earlier version of VMware Fusion (for example, merger v5) for temporary use? Here's an example scenario:

    * A VMware customer has two Macs. One is an old Mac running Snow Leopard, and the other is a new Mac running Mavericks or Yosemite. The customer wants to use the new Mac, go ahead (and give the old Mac). The client runs even a few applications that are not supported on what it is later than Snow Leopard (for example PowerPC applications). The obvious solution is to run these applications in a guest of Snow Leopard Server in VMware Fusion on the new Mac.

    * The problem is that Snow Leopard Server does not install as a guest operating system on the recent Mac models of the client, but it can run an existing Snow Leopard Server prompt that was created on an older Mac.

    * The client has this old Snow Leopard Mac. Unfortunately, it won't run VMware Fusion 7. It will run in VMware Fusion version 5, however. The customer wants to run VMware Fusion 5 on the old Mac to create the Snow Leopard Server on old Mac prompt, then copy the comments for the new Mac where it can run under VMware Fusion 7.

    HERE ARE MY QUESTIONS:

--> How can the customer buy VMware Fusion 7, but also to download a copy of VMware Fusion 5 for this operation 'create a Snow Leopard Server prompt' unique on the old Mac?

-> Will VMware provide a Fusion 5 license when the trial period expires on the old Mac before the customer can get a Snow Leopard Server comments work?

I sent you this link last night via Message private and also posted in your other thread on the subject.  You should be able to use as disk utility here: create a disk image of physical Mac OS X install media.

If this process fails to create an image that starts on your newer Mac, please let us know, as this is a question we want to address.  I'm not aware of any circumstances which require a downgrade from Fusion 5 install Snow Leopard Server.

    Thank you

  • Bridged Networking crushed Vmware Fusion 6.0.4 - replicable

I use the version of 30 trial of VMWare Fusion 6.0.4.  I can't sign up and download a .zip file officially, because I have to register the product first, and it won't let me register the serial number of the trial.  I won't pay until I am sure that it works for my use case.  So I have to resort to these forums.  Here's my reproducible bug:

I'm running a Windows 7 VM.  I used the import function to import this machine virtual of Parallels Desktop version 9.  It starts and works fine as long as I'm using NAT networking (shared with the host).  As soon as I switch to Bridged networking, it starts and runs for about 15 to 30 seconds, then crashes.

I used "Information Support" to create a zip of debugging information file and he have attached to this post.  Help!  I need to use Bridged networking.

    Hi petec35_2!

It seems that your guest uses frames (or Jumbo Packet), and which is currently to trigger this problem in Fusion.

To work around the problem: in the guest Device Manager, find the E1000/E1000e NIC, then a parameter in its property page should allow you to disable the Jumbo Frames/Jumbo Packet.

    See you soon,.

  • VMware Fusion 8.0

I plan to put VMware Fusion 8.0 on my new Mac Mini, so I can run an older version of Quicken for Mac 2006 R7. I have more than 20 years, the Quicken data files and I need to be able to access these files years every so often for the purposes of investment. Didn't like not all of the new version of Quicken for Mac, or any other software of finance personal I tested (they all seem to be cloud online version now), so I went back to the old version of Quicken, which is very stable for me (I just don't let it backup on my internal HD more).

All the old Quicken files and the program are on my Time Capsule and another hard drive backup external.

My old Mac Mini still works, but given that the OSX can not be upgraded beyond v. 10.6.8 some programs and Firefox work just not so well, and I was starting to think I have some security issue too.

I could get another monitor to the old Mini and not allow access to the internet, but it would still need to save every day at least to one of the external drives. Or, I could attach it to my current monitor along the coast the new Mini, using the D - SUB cable. I've never used the D - SUB connection, so not sure how good the view will be if two Minis share the same monitor. If I could afford to buy another monitor, I'd do it, but now, money is tight after the purchase of my new Mini and a new MBP for my daughter who is in College (his old MB was a 2008 model, no place to upgrade more, so it's very, very slow).

I read here that some people had problems of compatibility with El Capitan and Fusion, so I am wary of load on the new Mini. Are these problems solved?

When you read about the problems? If you're careful, you can try merge free simply go to their web site to access the free trial version. You can also use VirtualBox which is free. I don't think that you will have problems with the virtual machine.

Where you might have problems to run older versions of Quicken rather that perhaps in Quicken for Windows in your virtual machine running Windows or just the new version of Quicken for Mac without running a virtual machine. But I don't know much about Quicken.

  • Please help - my version of VMware fusion is to old to be upgraded. If I buy the new version can I transfer my existing set up?

So I installed my Mac at El Captian & annoyingly my version of VMware fusion (5.0.3) is no longer supported and will not open.

Even more annoyingly VMware fusion offer upgrades to the new version for those who use the version 6 or later.

In any case, big question if I buy the new version is there a way I can still access my current setup?

Would like if someone could let me know. I am self employed & I've got software out there that are vital for work :/

    Hello

Welcome to the VMware communities forum.

There is no problem with the Fusion 8 recognizing of your virtual machines to Fusion 5 (or more), it will go just pick up where you left off.

There are a few borderline cases, as it officially you should have your virtual machines closed and not suspended and preferably without clichés before upgrading to a newer version of the merger. However, in practice I saw real topics with that either.

Note that it is recommended to backup your virtual machines before going any further. Do this by copying them to an external drive (not dependent on time machine for backups of virtual machines) and then disconnect the drive.

You can start using on Fusion 8 for 30 days trial period, simply download it from here:

Try VMware Fusion or Fusion Pro. Run Windows on a Mac without rebooting.

Once it works as you want, simply assign the license to the merger to change it in the full licensed version.

    Hope this helps,

  • No Pro fusion trial

    Hello

I would like to try VMware Fusion as a trial, but without the Pro features 8. I downloaded the demo of regular/no Pro, but it tells me that it is the Pro version when I run it.

How can I meet the non-Pro of Fusion for a trial version? I want to do it because it's much easier to get a feel for it this way instead of just reading the non-pro vs Pro comparison table.

    See you soon.

    Hello

Download the normal version and the Pro version are actually a single file.

Not sure why VMware offers two links, perhaps for analytical or other purposes for marketing reasons.

Whatever it is, it make much sense to me.

The current selection on what you install is during installation. Here, you choose if you want the Pro version or Normal.

Seems you have selected 'Pro' by accident (can not remember, but I guess it's the default choice).

    The main differences are:

-Publisher Network (Menu-> preferences-> Network tab "VMware Fusion")

-Connect to the server from vSphere.

If you do not need these options so I don't see why you want the Pro version.

  • Multi-monitor 7 VMWare Fusion is improved from 6?

    Hello VMWare,

Currently if you google "VMware Fusion 7 multi-monitor Support" this thread is the best result:

    https://communities.VMware.com/thread/458878?start=0 & tstart = 0

In this thread, the top answer is a VMWare employee is studying ways to improve multi-monitor support VMWare Fusion. It's been a year, and you have now unlocked a new major version, to what you ask me to pay to upgrade.  I guess that these issues have been addressed, but I see no reference to improvements in this regard on the VMWare Fusion 7 product pages.

Can you please address the following two questions, which are massive trouble when using Fusion 6 (and I want to emphasize, nor issue seems to affect your competing product Parallels):

    1. If you have more than two monitors (three for example), can you use Fusion 7 full screen but use only 2 screens instead of the 3? In fusion 6, you can use one or ALL, I really hope that this behavior is changed.
    2. When you use a display fullscreen VM on several monitors with the new behavior of multiscreen fullscreen introduced in Mavericks, can you change the space of one of your monitors away from the virtual machine and then on another monitor always displays the virtual machine, interact with the virtual machine without the spaces on your other monitors to return to space the VM?

If you can confirm that the issues have been addressed, I fortunately modernize today.  If not, you clearly that this support is a reason some not a priority for VMWare and I go to Parallels, after buying the latest 3 versions of VMWare and be a happy customer otherwise.

    Thank you for your answer!

They do not react because the answer is that they did not have * nothing * to improve their software in this regard.

You better buy Parallels, making these two things well.  Even if the product windows VMWare offers this kind of behavior of multi-monitor, they are apparently not interested in doing the same thing on their OS X product.  I'm not interested in waiting around for them to recognize it as a priority, so I switched to Parallels.

  • Question of VMWare Fusion

I currently use Parallels Desktop and have a question about VMWare.

VMWare Fusion provides any software to the virtual machine which is necessary for integration with OS X?

(Parallels made - self-installing Stardock MyColors on Windows VMs without opportunity to decline - have to uninstall later)

    I was wondering.

The only VMware Fusion software will install automatically when creating a Machine virtual Windows is VMware Tools and it usually automatically starts, but can usually be cancelled although unless you try to isolate completely the host comments then I'd let VMware Tools installed.

  • BUG: Breaks VMware Fusion when there is free space on the host < 1.9 GB... result = > 1,9 GB never use for anything! (note: I do not use a virtual disk!)

    Hello

first some info on my system:

    -

    MacBook Pro

Processor: Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz

    RAM: 4 GB

    HARD drive: 112 Go - 2 partitions (80 GB Mac OS x 10.5.6 32GB, Windows XP)

    ---

VMware Fusion version: 2.0.4 (other affected versions 2.0.3/2.0.2/2.0.1/2.0)

Allocated to the virtual machine RAM: 1.5 GB

Under Windows XP in VMware (boot_camp) partition separated - NO VIRTUAL DRIVE! -separate the NTFS partition.

    -

    Now the bug/problem:

Every time that free up disk space on the host partition (MacOsX) becomes less than 1.9 GB the VMware Fusion makes a break with this runtime message:

    -

VMware Fusion has suspended this virtual machine because the disk on which the virtual machine is stored is almost full.

To continue, free at least 1.9 GB of disk space.

    -

Please prove me wrong, but makes no sense to me, because the result is that these 1.9 GB is never used (or VMware) :-(

In advance, VMware Fusion allocates approximately 1.9 GB whenever the virtual machine is started then in my opinion this runtime check is redundant and the audit should run only before you start the virtual machine.

Anyone know how to move this bug to developers or solve the problem?

It's very annoying not being able to use almost 2 GB of disk space :-(

Thanks for all the relevant answers :-)

This is not a Bug! and this is the expected behavior to avoid crashing on OS X and or damage to the system as a result of unexpectedly running out of space.

If you are currently running disks tight on space you have a bigger problem then do what it's programmed to do my protect the stability of the system, because the user is not paying attention to the State of their own Fusion system.

Free and maintain a suitable available space as required by the programs that you use, and how they are used.

It's a result of error of the end user, because you shouldn't be filling your drives and should always maintain a reasonable percentage of free space.

  • Oracle on VMware Fusion?

My next project will work with Oracle running on Red Hat Linux.  I would like to simulate this environment on my 2.4 GHX MacBook Pro and found

"Oracle on VMware" Virtual Appliance of Bert Scalzo (http://www.vmware.com/appliances/directory/62414) to give me the OS and DB in one fell swoop.

Here's my plan.  I'd appreciate comments on the approach and assumptions.

1 order VMWare Fusion from Amazon (save a little money, but I have to wait a few days).

2A ordered 4 GB memory from Crucial to replace my 2 GB.

    3. the intention to buy a small HD portable Firewire 800 to host the virtual machine may be VMs.

4 downloaded "Oracle on VMware" Virtual Appliance of Bert Scalzo (Linux and Oracle together)

After I installed VMWare and set up my first VM, install the "Oracle on VMWare" virtual device will be intuitive or is there something I should know?

My hypothesis on this device - it and any device VM will be a ready-to-go VM without installation required.

Not really what to expect of the unit (limits?-access root for example?), I also download Oracle 11 g 1 material for Linux (http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle11g/111060_linuxsoft.html) and Ubuntu desktop edition 8.1 (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download)-this will probably be the best option.

1 order VMWare Fusion from Amazon (save a little money, but I have to wait a few days).

First of all, I take advantage of the trial 30 - day free that you can download now and it is the normal release fully functional fusion that you use a serial number which is good for 30 days, so if you decide to purchase simply enter your purchased serial number and continue.

2A ordered 4 GB memory from Crucial to replace my 2 GB.

Crucial Grand and I have bought from them for years without any problem.

BTW, the Oracle_On_VMware Virtual Machine is configured to use the 1 GB of RAM so you can run on a system with only 2 GB of RAM, but 4 is better.

    3. the intention to buy a small HD portable Firewire 800 to host the virtual machine may be VMs.

FireWire 800 works great store and run your Virtual Machines since however I would keep in mind it is easy to accidentally disconnect in use and garbage can not only the Virtual Machine, but it has the potential in the trash the disk file system so just be vary well that if you don't erase a disc.

4 downloaded "Oracle on VMware" Virtual Appliance of Bert Scalzo (Linux and Oracle together)

The Oracle_On_VMware.7z file is compressed with 7Zip and is not natively supported in OS X so you will need to use a 3rd party utility to decompress the archive.  EZ 7z works very well.  It has a front end GUI but the real work is done in a Terminal, but the price is right.

The author does not publish a checksum for the archives, so here's the md5sum generated from the download and I'm including because she extracted without error and ran very well while it is a unofficial md5sum, it may be useful to check and see what you get. MD5 (Oracle_On_VMware.7z) = 70464f2be7b1ef889a736c2b0665c992

The extracted file of handset size is 4.35 GB

After I installed VMWare and set up my first VM, install the "Oracle on VMWare" virtual device will be intuitive or is there something I should know?

My hypothesis on this device - it and any device VM will be a ready-to-go VM without installation required.

Not really what to expect of the unit (limits?-for example root access?)

If you paid attention during playback of the web of VMware Appliance it page States ' key Linux user accounts: root/root123 and oracle/oracle "and the download page States...

    ==========

    Linux connections: root / root123

    Oracle / oracle

Oracle connections: sys / mgr @ XE

    System / Manager @ XE

xdba / xdba (dba example account)

xdev / xdev (example developer account)

    Oracle SID: XE

    Oracle Express: http://127.0.0.1:8080 / apex

    Developer SQL: / opt/sqldeveloper

    ==========

The unit is practically ready to go however it extracted just in a folder and normal file-based Fusion of VMS are in packages that are a regular folder that has an extension added to it and hidden by default so it you want it to be like normal file based Machine virtual merger just add the .vmwarevm extension.  Otherwise, you can simply drag and drop the '4.vmx Red Hat Enterprise Linux' file in the Virtual Machine library or just double-click it.  (Same thing if you compress it just of DND package or double-click it.)

    ==========

When you start the virtual machine you will be asked...

You want to upgrade this virtual machine?

An improved virtual machine offers the best performance 3D and other features, but cannot be used by earlier versions of VMware Fusion, until it downgrade you.

If you do not get to level the system will work well and work VMware Tools with the exception of the unit does not work correctly unless you upgrade VMware Tools.

If you are upgrading then Kudzu invite you to delete and add a few hardware items and it is very simple and should be done.  You need to upgrade VMware Tools to take advantage of the equipment upgraded.

    ==========

You will also be asked to...

This virtual machine may have been moved or copied.

In order to configure certain management and network features VMware Fusion needs to know that.

Did you move this virtual machine, or you copied it?

If you are unsure, answer "I copied it".

If you select "I copied it" it will change the MAC address of the VM virtual network card and this will be detected and Kudzu invites you to remove and add the network adapter and it's very simple and you will need to have network connectivity

    ==========

Time zone is set for the moment Central America/Chicago, you may need to adjust that.

HGFS works well that if you do not set a shared folder of VMware, you will see the message ' editing HGFS actions: 'FAILURE' "and you can ignore it if your not not using VMware Shared Folders.

I also download Oracle 11 g 1 material for Linux (http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle11g/111060_linuxsoft.html) and Ubuntu desktop edition (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download) 8.1 - this will probably be the best option.

You use a device it a great way to get up and running quickly to make the tests but it's always good you build your own Virtual Machine so that you know exactly everything about her.

In any case, it is some of what might need/want to know that you dive into it.

  • A product key from an old computer can be used for vmware fusion on a new mac?

We used to own a Dell computer with windows XP Professional OS. Lately, we have switched all of our Mac computers and no longer use the old windows computer. I have the product key for this OS and I was hoping to use the CD of windows XP on VMware fusion and relocation (in order to play video games). So far, the installation was almost a success until it would not accept the old operating system product key. Is there a way to get a new product key?
PS The only purpose is for the PC games we have.

can I get another free product key? I still have the old computer

you need to know if the old pc had an O E M version of windows, because

windows OEM versions are locked to the motherboard of the PC they where first installed at.

If the product key you have is from a version marketed Windows (non oem) you can install the version on another pc if you take away the first pc.

in other words, a version on a pc at the same time.

You should check with the microsoft Web site dealing with pirated software and product keys.

Before that I pay to update my VMWare Fusion to the latest version, can anyone confirm if it (and the rest of the Momentics development system) will continue to operate under macOS 'Sierra '?

    Thank you

    Ed

Well, good and less good news.

Good news, I installed the trial version of VMWare Fusion 8.5.0 on my macOS Sierra system 10.12 and the BB10 Simulator (at least, the latest version 10.3.2.281) works and my application can run on it!

Less good news, it runs * very * slow.

No 1200% slow as the virtualiation equipment turned off, but still slower than it was before.

Just in case someone comes in the future on this issue.

  • Don't know password for the new installation of Windows 7 Ultimate on VmWare Fusion

I bought Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and installed on my MAC OS X machine in VmWare Fusion of an image file provided by the seller of Windows 7.  However, when I start the merger, there is a 'user' set up account, and it asks for a password. Typing in anything doesn't work, or 'guest', 'user' or 'password '.  So I can't past the login screen.

    What can I do?

That was my mistake, and I 'found' the password trying my MAC password.  This was extracted automatically, or if I entered during installation without remembering, I don't know.  In all cases, it is resolved.

  • Update license key OEM for vmware fusion

I'm moving from a windows7 (64-bit Home Premium) to a Mac Book. I want to import my old PC as a virtual machine using VMware fusion.

I am trying to determine what is necessary from the point of view license.

The original license is OEM so I think that it may have an update - is just a case of getting a new license key?

I tried the update by using the update at any time of mechanism, but this no longer works

How can I get the appropriate license change to allow me to get the installed virtual machine?

    Thank you!

    Hello

Thank you for your reply and sorry for the late reply.

You can follow the procedure referred to in article of VMware Fusion below to migrate your system of operating existing for Windows 7 to your new MacBook.

Migrate a physical PC existing to a Virtual Machine.

    http://pubs.VMware.com/Fusion-4/index.jsp?topic=/com.VMware.fusion.help.doc/GUID-51A50557-6473-4053-81EC-9ACB40300FBD.html

After that, get Windows 7 successfully migrated you will need to purchase a new license Windows 7 key (rightly underlined André Da Costa, OEM licenses are linked to all first computer, you install and activate Windows on).

You need to activate your migration to Windows 7 operating system with the new license key.

You don't need to reinstall Windows 7 when you migrate your operating system on a new computer through VMware.

Warning: using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

Hope this information is useful. Please answer for any further assistance.
