VMware Player 4.0 LAN segments

I tried VMware Player 4.0 on Windows (Windows 7) and Linux (Ubuntu 10.04).

One thing I noticed that a different Linux a Windows is that VMware Player on Windows has the choice to create and use the local network segment while in Linux, I can't find this option.

Just a question here, is the segment LAN is a feature introduced in VMware Player 4.0? If so, how to enable it on Linux if possible? Any idea?

I noticed that when I open a virtual machine on linux which has been previously configured to use the LAN segments on a windows computer that VMware Player DOES recognize the local Network Segment.  He didn't display the name of the local network segment or allow me to choose another LAN segment, but the comments seem to work on the local network as planned segment.  I don't have another computer virtual configured to use the local network segment.  So, I can't verify that they would be able to communicate effectively on the segment, but I suspect they would have.

Why they support LAN segments and not only not wanted to give us a graphical interface to manage is beyond me.  But GUI seems to be pretty hit or miss on linux in general.

Thus, a possible solution is just manually edit the file ".vmx" to set up so that it uses a local network segment.

(1) turn the VM guest that you want to change and to use a local Network Segment.

(2) open ' / home/vmware //.vmx "with a text editor.

(3) look for a line similar to:

ethernet0. ConnectionType = "hostonly".

(4) change the line as follows:

ethernet0. ConnectionType = "Charlotte".

(5) add a line similar to the following line at the end of the vmx file (this identifies the LAN segment to which will connect the VM):

ethernet0.pvnID = ' 52 52 64 84 ea 7f 81 13 - df this 81 3 c 59 5b b7 e5.

(6) to save your changes, close the text editor, and open the settings of computer virtual of the guest in VMware Player PC to check the NIC is plugged into a "LAN" Segment declarations

(7) make the same changes on other virtual machines that you want to be on the same LAN segment.

NOTE: The path identified in step 2 can be different on your system.  You can find the path by using VMware Player by going to the settings of the virtual machine in the virtual machine, selecting the 'Options' tab and looking at the "Working Directory" in the "General" settings  You should find the ".vmx" for the virtual machine file to this place.

I hope this helps.

    Simple question I have struggled to find an answer...

    OK, I'll reply to my own post...

    After testing with wireshark, I was able to determine that it actually behaves as a 'hub '.

    I had tested before my post, but ran into some very confusing results, resulting in the end by the Windows Firewall rules.  He has proved that they considered the local network as a public network segment and so had a much more restrictive rule set.

  • VMware Player 5.0.2 does not see the wireless adapter

    Hello guys,.

    I'm having a problem with VMware Player 5.0.2 build-1031769 (the same exist with older versions of VMware Player 5 but it's the only one I currently have).

    The drive does not recognize my network card Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN wireless on a laptop Lenovo T410. I have an another T410 with Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6200 AGN and it works fine.

    Here are the symptoms:

    -When using NAT networking it works fine

    -When I use open networking, the guest (in this case, Windows XP) operating system said that the cable is disconnected

    -J' found a few threads saying that this could be a router problem, but it's not because with the other computer laptop in the same network, everything works well

    -When I connect to the network using the work of connection LAN (cable) filled without problem

    -My Network on the host operating system works without any problem

    -Windows recognize the adapter wireless without any problem:

    Device Manager.jpg

    -VMware Player does not display the adapter in the transition parameters but shows a kind of virtual map of Microsoft:

    VM Bridging Settings.jpg

    -When I run the virtual network Editor is the same: no real but adapter Microsoft virtual card

    Virtual.jpg

    -J' tried to reset the default network configuration, but this did not help

    I am running Windows 8 Enterprise.

    I'd appreciate any help. Thank you.

    See you soon

    Vodkaholic27, let me start with the layoff of vodka for a bit and then set Virtual Machine network card to bridged and then assign a static IP address that is appropriate for the guest as the physical LAN operating system is the host.  Then in the local physical network for static IP address router you assigned in the guest OS configure it to allow Port Forwarding on the appropriate port.  Then, you will be able to access from outside local physical host network.  If it's just on the other system on the physical LAN to the host that you want to access the guest you need not set up the Port Forwarding on the router on the local physical host network, simply use linked by a bridge to the network adapter in the Virtual Machine.  If you use NAT to the NIC of the Virtual Machine, then you need to set Port Forwarding in the virtual network Editor.

    Note: The virtual network Editor is not installed by default in Vmware Player 3.x and later versions.

    ==========

    To install the missing virtual network Editor, the command prompt:

    VMware-player-*.exe -e c:\vmptmp

    Then in the c:\vmptmp folder find the file c:\vmptmp\network.cab and extract (double-click on the .cab file) vmnetcfg.exe (virtual network editor) file in the working directory of VMware Player usually 'C:\Program VMware Player' or ' C:\Program Files (x 86) \VMware\VMware Player.  You can create a shortcut and place it with the shortcut of VMware Player, if you want to access it more easily.  Note: there are some for all the files to be extracted to then access the network.cab file.

  • VMWare Player and VLAN

    Hi all out there.

    I have a problem regarding virtual local networks and virtualization. The configuration is as follows. Our developers are about to get virtual machines with Linux (centos) guests on their desktop computers. Host machines are Windows 7 boxes with sufficient CPU, RAM and disk space. Each box has only one NIC installed and connected to the internal LAN. On this single cable Lan, there should be 2 VLANS:

    1. vLan id 100 for windows hosts (configured as default vLan on the switch ports)
    2. vLan id 199 for the machine virtual (different configuration for routing/firewall/proxy)

    The network for the virtual machine must be set to bridged, because making web development, developers must be able to access Web servers installed on the virtual machines via a browser.

    The original plan was to use VMware Player, install Linux, configure the vLan in the comments, and it works. But no package has left the virtual machine when you ping the default gateway of the vLan 199. To me, it seems that something is declining for all packages on vLan the vLan 199.

    The questions are:

    • VLANs are supported by VMware Player or workstation after all?
    • They are supported in a configuration like that?
    • How do we? Must be setup in Windows as well?

    Help would be very nice

    Greetings

    Joachim

    The default virtual network Editor is not installed with VMware Player and you will need to transform automatic bridging and define VMnet0 to use vLAN199 and then bridge network adapter to the Virtual Machine should work.

    For the workaround you can run VMware-player-* .exe - e c:\vmptmp from a command line and then search for the c:\vmptmp\network.cab file and extract (double-click on the .cab file) vmnetcfg.exe (virtual network editor) file in the working directory of VMware Player usually 'C:\Program Files\VMware/VMware Player', you can create a shortcut and place it with the shortcut of VMware Player If you want easier access.  NOTE: It takes several minutes for the VMware-player-* .exe to extract all then be patient.

  • How to connect a LAN Segment to the network host Workstation 7

    Hi all.

    This can be a really newbie question, but I'm quite a novice on vmware

    I have set up a team in VMWare Workstation 7 with a few machines virtual all assigned to a single LAN Segment. Everything works fine, but now I need to have internet access in my virtual machines. How to configure the local network segment to see my host network, so I can internet ping?

    Thank you very much!

    OK - see here - I have matched to your vmx file so that all the entries of ethernet0 appear in a row.

    That's what you have now:

    ethernet0. AddressType = 'generated '.

    ethernet0. ConnectionType = "Charlotte".

    ethernet0.generatedAddress = "00: 0C: 29:c3:36:10.

    ethernet0.generatedAddressOffset = '0 '.

    ethernet0.pciSlotNumber = "33".

    ethernet0. Present = 'TRUE '.

    ethernet0.pvnID = ' 52 4 c 5th 98 70 6 82 a-1 b - 0f 97 5 m 76 2 8 a 85 eb ".

    ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000".

    ethernet0.wakeOnPcktRcv = "FALSE".

    Then, I list all the settings that you should NOT touch:

    ethernet0. AddressType

    ethernet0.generatedAddress

    ethernet0.generatedAddressOffset

    ethernet0.pciSlotNumber

    ethernet0. Now

    ethernet0.startConnected

    ethernet0.virtualDev

    ethernet0.wakeOnPcktRcv

    Regardless of the settings of they - leave it alone - don't change to it for this task. After that only these two lines are left:

    ethernet0. ConnectionType = "Charlotte".

    ethernet0.pvnID = ' 52 4 c 5th 98 70 6 82 a-1 b - 0f 97 5 m 76 2 8 a 85 eb ".

    These two are those who configure the local network segment.

    Remove them and replace them with this single line

    ethernet0. ConnectionType = "nat".

    In case you want to break up the team to remove this line

    inVMTeam = 'TRUE '.

    and delete the *.vmxf file in the same directory.

    For more information on configuring network in the vmx file read my site

  • Portege R - 400 3 G modem freezes VMWare Player 3.0 in Windows 7

    Hi all

    I have a problem following needs your help.

    I have a Portege R-400 with 3 G build-in modem. It is installed Windows 7. All is well until I install the VMWare Player 3.0.

    Without modem 3G connection, each application still works fine. (I use WiFi most of the time.)

    When I'm not in measure use WiFi and connect with 3G, without starting VMWare Player, the system freezes within 5 to 20 minutes.

    The symptom is without any response to the keyboard and mouse, but can see HD light flashing.

    Then, I'll try Virtual PC from microsoft. He may have the same problem, too.

    It will be very appreciated if there is no solution for this problem.

    Thank you very much!
    Mike

    Dear Mike is a rather complicated question. I mean Toshiba muss well deliver books and work with the factory settings, everything should work fine.
    If you use some third-party software of the part and if something goes wrong, it can be really complicated.

    Who is responsible for support here?
    I hope that someone on this forum has exactly the same specifications, the setting, the operating system and additional software like you and can help you with this.

    The VMware FAQ details the requirements for VMWare.

    http://www.VMware.com/products/player/FAQs.html

    The processor and RAM already exceed requirements, so it shouldn't have a negative effect on performance. VMWare Player will not affect on real hardware. This depends on the version of Linux used because it must be enough RAM for the host (Windows 7 64-bit) operating system and the guest OS (Linux). 4 GB of RAM should be plenty for the operating systems run, but you can find some RAM intensive programs may have reduced performance. For most programs, this shouldn't be a problem.

    Other virtualization technologies require virtualization is enabled in the BIOS. However, the FAQ does not mention this. If this does not work and you receive an error on activation, then enable it in the BIOS.

    Unfortunately, you must have prepared a recovery disk in advance or use the one provided with your computer.

    For 5 years, Microsoft made it fairly easy for users of the Windows 7 operating system to get reinstall media. If you have lost your support disc or installation retail collection; either it has been damaged or defective; You can download a copy of the edition that you have licensed from a membership site called Digital River. More recently, Microsoft ended the availability to reinstall media that you can download as a. File ISO in Digital River, which is a digital reproduction of an optical disc.

    It was particularly convenient for people who could not easily get the manufacturer's recovery media, did not want to pay the fees required to get or preferred a clean configuration without the software packaged manufacturers or even a recovery partition does not work. It's easy to use, all you had to do was reinstall and reactivate using the product key located on the certificate of authenticity and download all the drivers on the manufacturers website.

    Hey be based,

    The initial installation of the IDE and Simulator can be sometimes a bit daunting. Some of these steps you've done but im going anyway to list them:

    1. raise some Code by signing keys: keys

    2. download and install Momentics IDE and install

    3. download and install Blackberry Simulator

    4 download and install VMWare

    5 disable all firewall programs including windows firewall

    6. open VMWare-> choose open a Virtual Machine-> access your VNX file and open it

    7 if it opens really slow try changing options in VMWare 2 CPU and see if you can activate the "Virtualization technology" or "AMD Virtualization" in the BIOS

    8 the address of development of the Simulator (click the icon of the person with the toothed wheel on the menu bar of your alpha dev Simulator

    9. open the IDE, click window > Preferences on Windows and select BlackBerry and click BlackBerry Setup Wizard Deployment.

    10. follow the onscreen instructions to set up your target (Simulator or device) and add your chips of the device debugging.

    11 A this point your simulator could not auto discover so add your IP address you found earlier and if you haven't added a password in your simulator then let empty password.

    12. the rest of the wizard of BlackBerry deployment configuration should work just fine.

    13 open a sample application

    14. click on the file of the bar - descriptor.xml in the Project Explorer view, and then select "Set of symbolic debugging.

    15. right click on the project file, and then select Configurations to Build > Set Active > 4 Simulator-Debug

    16. right click on the project file, and then select generate the project.

    17. then right click on the project again and select run as > BlackBerry Application C/C++

    18. If all goes well, everything should work from there.

    Remember you need to do 14-17 for each project you want to run through the Simulator. And always turn on the virtual machine before you start the IDE I found that things always work better that way.

    I hope this helps!
