VMware - player nat / dhcp settings

Hi all

I would like to ask you a few questions about nat and DHCP settings.

I have instaled vmware player 5.0.2 build-1031769, I have try some tutorials how to extract or find vmnetcfg.exe but without success.

Do you have any idea how to change NAT / DHCP settings...?

On the other hand, I have configured my computer viirtual as 'hosting only' in the network tab, but I have not received all the ip addresses of Vmnet1...

Thanks in advance

Roman

VMware Player 5.x comes more with the editor of network virtual vmnetcfg.exe but it comes with and installs the vmnetui.dll and can be raised by running the following in a command prompt administrator from the VMware Player command working directory (or include the QPF of vmnetui.dll in the command line).

rundll32.exe vmnetui.dll VMNetUI_ShowStandalone

  • VMWare Player, NAT and firewall

    Hello

I'm running VMWare Player 7.1.2 with Windows 8.1 as host and Debian Linux as a target.  I want to run the network card in NAT mode for the isolation it provides to Linux.  I have tightened my windows machines and thus, set windows firewall to block all outbound connections except those covered by specific rules.  When I turn this firewall does not block OFF, NAT network works fine, when I turn it on, NAT does not work.  I tried to add each firewall rule, that I can think of, such as the possibility of vmnat, VMnetDHCP and vmware-authd, as a program and a service.  The rules, which I configured include all ports and protocols.  No rule allows traffic NAT of VMWare Player.

    Thoughts?

    OK, I found a solution.

First of all, I would say that I use the Windows Firewall, not McAfee etc.

The crux of the problem is that there are two instances of vmnat.exe on my machine.  The first is in the VMWare Player folder (as I predicted), and the second is in \Windows\SysWOW64.

    * Opening a rule for the program in VMWare Player, for all services, does not work.

Opening of rule for Windows (which is defined as the SysWOW64 version) services, for all programs, does not work.

    * However, the opening of a rule for the program in SysWOW64, for all services, works.

It's weird, because the player is definitely using Windows services, because it if you stop, the machine virtual loose connectivity, but create a firewall rule for the Department is insufficient.  Instead, I have to define a rule based on the programs and point to the exe file that is managed by the service.  No other firewall rule is necessary.

I do not fully understand, but it's the solution to my problem.

  • Running a VMware Player with server Via NAT

Is it possible to run a VMware Player with a server (like Ubuntu) using NAT?

    Yes, it's doable.

  • Error playing the virtual machine in VMware Player

    Hi all

It is in fact no error, but the result of not being able to get the automatic (DHCP) IP settings. Please check which virtual bridged network (Host-Only, NAT) is configured for the virtual computer and check if the related DHCP service is running. Also make sure that NIC of the virtual computer is configured with "Connect to light". If no DHCP server is available, follow the instructions in the red part of the screen.

  • Connect two VMs via the connection to the local network using VMWare Player

So this topic can be posted already, but I'm at the end of the roll, trying to find a solution. I have VMWare player installed 3.1.4 on an enterprise_x64 of Windows 7 system. I configured two virtual machines: OS1 comments: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5.5_x64 and OS2 comments: WIndows 7 Ultimate_x64. I need the Linux server to act as a database server in the system environment, that I am creating. The Windows 7 VM will be the client PC. The Linux server is configured to be it's own DHCP server, so ideally the client PC connects to the field of tht and also follow the Linux server IP address.

I tried all the options of networkign for each virtual computer, but no sem to create this type of connectivity. How to configure the network settings in VMWare Player to make two virtual computers can communicate with each other via a virtual network? (Communication with the host pc is not necessary)

The short answer is to manually install the lack vmnetcfg.exe, Editor of virtual networkand configure VMnet2 without DHCP and host vNIC and then configure manually each virtual machine network adapter to use Custom VMnet2.

The longer answer has already been given so many times that you should be able to find detailed directions, however...

To install the lack vmnetcfg.exe, virtual network editor, run VMware-player-* .exe-e c:\vmptmp go to a command line and then in the c:\vmptmp folder, locate the file c:\vmptmp\network.cab and extract (double-click on the .cab file) vmnetcfg.exe (virtual network editor) file in the working directory of VMware Player usually ' C:\Program Files\VMware/VMware Player ' you can create a shortcut to it and place it with the shortcut of VMware Player if you want to access more easily to her.  This utility is not installed by default is however necessary to turn off the automatic bypass on VMnet0 if the system is multihomed and two or more physical host from the NETWORK adapter is active or you want change VMnet1 and VMnet8 subnet addresses or additional VMnets.

The you must manually change the configuration of each virtual machine's .vmx file in Notepad, change an existing parameter and add another.

    Change:

    ethernet0.connectionType = "nat"

    TO:

    ethernet0.connectionType = "custom"

    Add:

    ethernet0.vnet = "VMnet2"

Note: Regardless of connectionType ethernet (n) shows it should be changed to "custom".

Be sure also to Machine virtual are stop, not suspended and VMware Player is closed when you edit the .vmx config files.

Here are some pictures to show.

Here in the VMnet2 virtual network Editor is selected and is how it should be if you what to use your own DHCP server and the host does not have a vNIC.  You can change the IP address as a result of your needs.

Here's the value VM card network NAT settings.

This is what network settings Virtual Machine map will look like after you change the configuration of the Virtual Machine's .vmx file to use Custom VMnet2.

BTW if you replace the Machine network card virtual settings through the user interface customized by something else then you will need to manually edit the .vmx config file to retrieve.   With VMware Workstation, you do not need to manually install the virtual network editor and should not manually edit the .vmx config file as the custom list box is still present and shows all VMnets to select from.

Online I mean a wireless connection to the router and the internet

    Offline - I mean wireless internet connection/no

    Networking networking

Works ok online. Does not work in offline mode

When online, I get IP 192.168.0.7 ifconfig in vmware... I can ping the router from the virtual machine and ping the server ubuntu from the command-line to Win7

Offline... Ping from VM to the router and Ping from Win7 to VM fail.

    NAT networking

Does not work online or offline

When 'online' I get IP 192.168.91.128 to ifconfig in VMware, I can ping the router hardware virtual machine ok. When I ping the server ubuntu command line of Win 7 I Request Timed Out

In offline mode, I get the same IP 192.168.91.128 to ifconfig in the virtual machine. I can't ping the virtual machine hardware router... Destination Host Unreachable. When I ping the server ubuntu command line of Win 7 I have inaccessible Destination host

On the screenshot-VMnet1 as VMnet8 - have APIPA (assigned automatically free private) IP addresses, which should not be the case. Unfortunately I can't tell you what is the cause! Could be something of a facility fails to a VPN client. What you can do, is click on the 'Restore defaults' button in the editor of virtual network or re - install VMware Player (uninstall, reboot the host and reinstall "as Administrator").

If you have access to the virtual network editor depends on the VMware Player version you are using. With some older versions - which had the "vmnetui.dll" in the installation folder - it was possible to start to operate:

    rundll32.exe vmnetui.dll VMNetUI_ShowStandalone

  • VMware player 5 - connection in bridge problem

    Hi all!

I am writing because I have a very big problem with the network bridged in Vmware player 5.0.2. No matter what I do it just would not work. NAT and host options only work very well and there is no problem with them. My NIC has vmware bridge Protocol, 'automatic connection settings' and "virtual network editor" is set on this particular card. The only thing I can think is firewall (Norton 360) that can block the connection but all of the vmware software components are allowed to work and NAT service works, so I don't know if this could be the case. I would be very grateful for any advice.

I have attached the PDF with screenshots showing my configuration.

Norton PS options are in Polish, but they essentially say that Vmware is allowed and that inbound netBIOS' / netBIOS name "communication and communication incoming/outgoing ICMP is blocked.

P.S in case of faults of vocabulary and that I'm sorry. p

No, NIC in the host is virtualized / ripped off by the monitor of machine virtual and presented to the customer in a standard way - always cable.  It doesn't matter if the host is using wired or wireless.  Was just letting you know that you can use specific tools wireless in your guest on a virtual NETWORK adapter in this way.  The only way to get into a wireless client is to use a USB wireless adapter and attach that to the guest.  There will of course have to then the drivers for the USB NIC you use.

  • VMWare Player 5.0

I have a laptop windows 7, which has a wireless connection to the corporate network. I can access the internet and the internal network without a problem.

On this laptop, I have a machine virtual windows 7 running in VMWare Player 5.0. I'm trying to access internet/network of this virtual machine.

If I use NAT, the internet connection works fine but I only have access to the internal network if I use the IP address, not the UNC name.

No idea why it is and how can I fix?

    Thank you

    L

Well, your DNS running on the virtual machine. You do not need to change the DNS settings, since your NAT works as a DNS proxy and will forward DNS queries to DNS servers known by the host system.

For your problem of suffix: you must configure the default suffix of systems. With windows 7 do where you change your ComputerName:

    Right-click computer-> properties-> change settings-> change of name-> change-> more-> default dns suffix entry.

  • Whither VMware Player 5.0 VMNetCfg.exe?

Just upgraded to VMware Player 4.0.4 for the new 5.0.  The old method of obtaining VMNetCfg.exe seems to no longer work.  There is no "network.cab", and none of the .cab files that appear when you / extract have something akin to VMNetCfg.exe.

A smaller download package is VMware-workstation-version 9.0.0 - 812388.exe.tar because it is only 271.2 MB.  "Détarer" it and then use the same command line syntax to extract the contents of the executable file as in the past.

  • Configuration connection between two virtual machines on VMware Player

    Hello

I have a host machine running Windows 7, which is connected to my company's intranet. On this machine, I have two OS guests on VMware Player:

VM1 - Running Windows Server 2003, in my company intranet

VM2 - Running CentOS 5, not registered in my company intranet.

The second of the two is a pre-packaged VM, fully operational to run a complex database system that has been downloaded from the software provider.

I need to set up the environment such as the VM1, an application can connect to the database running on computer 2.

For the moment I can do the following with success-

    * Ping the host to VM1 and vice versa

    * Ping the host to VM2 and vice versa

    * Ping to VM1 VM2

    However, I don't do a ping of VM1 VM2.

Can someone please explain why this is the case? In addition, please suggest me on the best way to get this working environment. I prefer to do the minimum to juggle the VMS as they run important applications. In addition, it is not possible to save VM2 on my intranet, if that would solve the problem.

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read and answer.

EDIT: Just noticed that I am able to access restricted intranet websites through VM2.

    Ahhhh, presto! Easy solution!

All you need to do is change the 2 virtual computer hardware settings and change the network card.

RightClick the VM, in settings, then replace the network card of NAT in bridge

  • VMware Player 3.1.4 & vmwarenet-cfg

    Hello

I have a pc (host) with 2 nic slot XP pro SP3.

    I installed VMware Player 3.1.4 build 385536.

I want to configure these 2 NICs in the systems of my guests.

I want to give VM-adapter 1 nic1 via NAT and VM 2 adapter nic 2 via bypass.

It is not possible for me to choose the 'true' - nic I want to connect to the VM adapter.

I read that it should be possible with VMwarenet - cfg.exe.

This command, but be in the "VMWare Player" directory.

I don't find this command in that directory.

Some can tell me how I can make the links I want to?

    Thank you

    Patrick

You will need to do a few things...

Read first configuring a virtual network section in the help file in VMware Player.

Then you need to manually install the virtual network editor missing (vmnetcfg.exe) comes from the extracted network.cab file of the installation of VMware-player package - 3.1.4 - 385536.exe using the following syntax:

    VMware-player-3.1.4-385536.exe /e c:\vmptemp

After having extracted the file vmnetcfg.exe from the network.cab file, you can put in the folder "C:\Program VMware Player" and if you want to create a shortcut to put with the VMware Player shortcut in the Start Menu.

Then, run the virtual network editor and disable the automatic bypass for VMnet0 assigning the NIC goal

Also VMware Player does not offer a way to customize the network adapter settings in the guest to use the specific VMnets as well through its user interface...

In the configuration of the Virtual Machine's .vmx file, there are several settings for each Ethernet card if the form of:

    ethernet(n).

    Where (n)' is a number, i.e. ethernet0.

For each NIC that you have to customize you must change the value of a parameter, while adding another network adapter.

    As an example of change:

    ethernet(n).connectionType = "nat"

    TO:

    ethernet(n).connectionType = "custom"

    Add:

    ethernet(n).vnet = "VMnet(n)"

This will then allow the network adapter to use different VMnets.

  • An easy way to get the IP address of a VMware Player running?

Hey guys, need some help to get the IP address of a VMware Player running in windows & linux. An easy way? I search on google. I saw someone said how to limit the selection of the IP address, but this isn't what I want. I want to get the IP address of a VMware Player running in windows & linux. Thank you.

    Hi Badboy,

    Welcome to the forums.

VMware Player has no IP address, but the guest inside the VM systems have not one.

If your virtual machines based on the internal DHCP server of the player, for example if they are bridge now or NAT network, then on Windows, you should find information useful in the %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\VMware\vmnetdhcp.leases. There is such a file on Linux.

    Good luck.

  • VMware Player (VMware Workstation?) Interfere with the connection of the browser

I installed VMware Player (or so I think) on Vista Home Premium 32 - bit SP2.  Here's what the Properties tab - & gt; Details shows for "C:\Program VMware Player\vmplayer.exe:

Description of the file: VMware Player

I looked for this in order to make the version of the-what? -VMware Player or VMware Workstation I, and in order to find the right users Guide or manual.

But this isn't my problem entirely.

My problem is that I was using my HTTP (browser) client and it has been noticed that I could not connect to certain websites (e.g., http://www.gnu.org/).  I can do that at home, through my wireless router (configured for IP) static on the local network.  Then I go to work where I use the ethernet connection (not getting any IP by DHCP!... configured for a static IP address on the WAN).  I call tech info, that says they can connect.  I think it's because I'm using OpenDNS instead of the name of University servers, and then I enter the "Network Sharing Center' and see 'several networks' and THREE Local (ethernet) connections.

After that think "WTF?" and think that 2 local connections and 3 are screwing things up, I disable all local connections and re-enable the connection with the hardware ethernet card.  Who has NOT solved the problem of my failed to connect to the web site, that is

    http://grub4dos.sourceforge.NET/

    The service

    http://GSiteCrawler.com/tools/server-status.aspx

reports the HTTP 200 response code very quickly.  I use this service to see if the info tech group workplace blocks a web site.

However, I want to learn more about virtual network maps created by the VMware Player (desktop?).  I ran the "vmnetcfg.exe" interface and in the Summary tab, see:

    Activated

    VMnet8 (NAT)

    192.168.219.0

The guide I want to read should explain what are these local ethernet adapters and they can interfere with the operation of the host outside of the virtual machine.

    Thank you

    Welcome to the forums!

    The guide: http://pubs.vmware.com/ws7_ace26/ws_user/ws_net.html#989125

Where is your problem to browse occur? In comments or host?

VMnet0 is the virtual bridged network. He connected the virtual NETWORK adapter of your guests who are bridge transparently to your physical network device.

VMnet1 is the network invited only, a virtual, where the host and the guests are members of. You see a VMnet1 NIC on the host, because it's the virtual card that the host uses to connect to VMnet1.

VMnet8 is the NAT network. It connects to each stack TCP/IP Protocol on the host computer. Therefore the guest may use any communication device that uses TCP/IP. Th egust is hidden behind the NAT device. This means that all packets leaving the host, coming from the prompt appear to come from the host. VMnet8 virtual card is one that connects to the host on VMnet8 virtual network to enable external communication for the customer.
