VMware Server 2 - installation and questions backup

I have an application that will use a backend SQL Express and IIS. I want to place this in a virtual machine running Windows 2008 Server on a Server 2008. We will not have many users using this app, so I think that the free server product would be nice. I worked with VMware Workstation for a few years but I did not too much with the server. I guess I can build the right VM in server, just let it run from there, correct?  All the elements 'need to know '?  Also, what is the best way to back up the applications data. I am not too concerned about the guest operating system, only data backup applications. Any help would be great... Thank you

You can install Vmware server on the host computer and you can then create Win2008 VM.

Yes you can have the virtual machine running in Vmkware server.

For bcking the application data. You can do multiple ways.

You can connecta USB drive to the physical machine and the virtual machine and copy the application data.

You can map the drive to the virtual computer as a network drive on the physical host and copy it to CD / engraver of DVD or USB drive or another drive partition.

Please allow point if it helps.

Thank you

HGFS is the Guest Host File System.

It is more commonly used in my computer when you use the "Shared folders" feature, by presenting a host record to the guest under the/mnt/hgfs folder OS.

Kinda like a mapped drive, but between vm and host.  However, the server doesn't support HGFS can be a module for it.

    -Page 75:

A kernel module for the management of folders, called hgfs.sys Windows and vmhgfs under Linux and Solaris. VMware Server does not support shared folders. The module is included for compatibility of products.

  • VMware server in Vista and 64-bit hosts

    Hello...

I have a DELL Latitude E6400 laptop with Intel P8600 processor.

I installed VMware Server 2 on Vista Business 32-bit Edition.  It works but I cannot create virtual machines in 64-bit.

Can someone explain to me why?

    THX.

To run 64-bit clients, you must make sure that you have intel VT turned on in your bios.  Go into your BIOS and see if this option is enabled.  Without it, you cannot install a 64-bit client.  http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=1901

  • VMware Server 2.0 and VMworkstation 6.5

Is there anyway that these two products can run in parallel. Currently, I installed 6.5 Workstation but I would also use VMServer 2.0?

Could I install Win2k3/Win2k8 as a virtual machine using the workstation, then VMServer inside the virtual machine?

I want to know what are the options or if it is possible?

I'm running Vista 64 bit on a Quad Core PC with 8 GB of RAM, I suppose I could install another OS and I have a dual boot system and run Workstation on the operating system Vista and VMserver on Win2k3/Win2k8

Anyone can add anything to this, thanks

Yes, I would stick with WS 6.5 in order to avoid all the complexities of dual boot. It should be simpler all round.

  • Impossible to use VMWare Server and Virtual PC at the same time?

I have a Win 7 box I use VirtualPC (unfortunately, VPN to the employer only supports the 32-bit Win XP).

If I try to start any virtual machines using VMWare Server, power on and then immediately off.  Tried several different VMs.

However, if I disable VirtualPC, they all work normally.

Then... there at - it a known issue with the help of Virtual PC and VMWare Server at the same time?

BTW, I didn't see this problem when you use Virtual PC and VMWare Player at the same time.

VirtualPC leaves the CPU of the exploitation of VMX root, which is a restricted mode.  VMware Server is problems to switch between legacy mode and long (this switch is prohibited when the CPU is in VMX root operation).  The current versions of the workstation and the player are able to circumvent this restriction.

pilots are not really a lot to do with it, due to its operation.  Just make sure that all engines of unloading are disabled, that's about it.  We have a bunch of 2K 3 x 64 hosts with 32-bit guests and it is no problem.

  • Oracle on Linux and Windows Client question database server: NetMgr Windows and Linux NetMgr

    People,

Hello. I have installed Oracle Database 11 g 2 server in the Oracle Linux 5 Starter PT853 Instance of database virtual machine. Then I installed Oracle Database 11 g 2 client for 32-bit Windows XP 64 - bit Windows virtual machine. Now I face the problem of connection of the VMs 2 as below:

In Manager Net Linux Server Machine:

    Service name: PT853
    Connection type: default database
    "TCP/IP Protocol".
    Host name: localhost
    Port name: 1521

    Listener: LISTENER
    Protocol: TCP/IP
    Host: localhost
    Port: 1521

I test the Service PT853 with "SYSADM" username and password "SYSADM". The connection is successful.
In the Windows XP Client computer, the information in the Net Manager is the same, but the connection is not successful. Its details are as below:

    NET Service Name: PT853
    Protocol: TCP/IP
The database Machine host name: localhost
    Port number: 1521
Name of the Basic Service: PT853
    Connection type: default database

I have test the Service using "SYSADM" UserID and password to 'SYSADM' which are the same with Linux, but this error: TNS: listener does not currently of service requested in connect descriptor.

I followed this tutorial http://www.vmware.com/support/ws5/doc/ws_devices_serial_2vms.html to configure 2 virtual machines in Windows 7 host machine.

In Windows XP Oracle database Client Installer directory, the "tnsnames.ora" file has an entry that matches the name Service in Net Manager. Directory of database server installation Oracle Linux, the file 'tnsnames.ora' has no entry because I installed the server of Oracle database with the instance of database startup PT853.

I tried to test 2 virtual machines in the way as below:

    In Linux, [user@localhost ~] $ping WindowsXP_HostName
    Release: Unknown host WindowsXP_HostName

At the Windows XP command prompt:
    C:\ping localhost.localdomain
Its release: ping localhost 127.0.0.1 with 32 bytes of data...
    Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes = 32 time = 2ms TTL = 128

He meets a few times and then disconnected by itself. It seems that Windows XP is ping itself and not Linux server. The host name of the Linux server is 'localhost' as well. It is a kind of confusion for me.

From the information above, we can see that 2 VMs cannot connect between them. Net Manager in Windows XP Oracle Client unable to connect its Service PT853 with the Oracle Linux database server.

    My question is:

Can any folk tell me how to connect Oracle Client in Windows XP with the Oracle Linux database server?

    Very grateful in advance.

IP 192.168.196.102 is Linux. This means that oracle database Client in Windows XP may log into Oracle Database Server under Linux. Don't you think I'm not mistaken? If so, I'm very happy and very grateful to you.

    Hi all

I came across this post in discussions of woskstation and its exactly the same question that I see:

    http://communities.VMware.com/message/1509413

The problem is that I can't turn off the VMware USB Service on my host machine, because there is no. Anyone of you experts can tell me how to disable this in VMware Server please?

Or do you want to know what part of VMware Server may be in conflict with my stick to wide band and advise me on how I can have as much mobile broadband and vmware server running on the same host machine.

    Thanks in advance

the installation of fixing VMserver USB part is not trivial - see

who wrote for my computer, but it applies as well to VMserver.

Have you tried to re - install?

  • Allocation of memory and VMware Server 2

    Hello world

I have a box of material with 12 GB of physical memory on this OS W2K 2003 32 bits (4 GB limit). My question is: if I install VMware Server 2 in this scenario, I'll be able to allocate remaining 8 GB of physical mem for my virtual machines. What performance in this scenrio? I'd like to run two virtual machines (2003 data backup server and backup exchange server) 4 GB each.

Thank you much for the help.

    NO.

Since your host is limited to 4 GB, you cannot allocate more than that.

You should better install a 64 bit OS host if you want to use all of the memory, if your hardware supports.

  • Import the VCB backups in VMWare Server 2.0 Automatic

    Hello

I had two questions, on which I was wondering...

The real thing, I was wondering all is if someone made a script, fixing up the release of VCB, so it is bootable from a standard VMWare Server 2?

(I think / hope someone has already made as part of an AIP or something...)

The problem is that VCB adds the path of SCSI in the VMDK-filenames, but it does not add it to the VMX file.

If these are mapped to the other the VMX or by renaming the files the VCB is bootable in Server VMW 2.

(but 'less restoreable' of VCB on the other hand...)

This would help me a lot, couse then I could put my VCB backups to an external drive and give the drive to our suppliers

then they test things in the production environment. This could easily be written, but I don't want to invent wheels all my life,

so if others have this I appreciate real...

The second thing I was wondering about is if it is the right part of the forum for these questions, or if they should go under something else...

    Colombia-British

Since the change of name is always following the same convention, I do not think that it is necessary to read the VMX file.

This script deletes the prefix «scsi...» "of all the VMDK files.

    $VCBfolder =
    $vm = # Subfolder in directory $VCBfolder

  • VMWare does support installation of server connection or security on Server Core components?

I think that title pretty much sums it.  We seek to harden our security servers view so I wanted to know if VMware supports the installation of this component on Windows Server 2008 R2 Core (or heart of 2012). I did some research autour and I'm stumbled upon a page of 2012 that said he was not taken in charge (it wasn't an official page of VMware). Some time has passed and I hope that it is now supported.  If this is not the case, if someone could point me to documentation that helps curing an installation of the Security server that would help too.  We lack Horizon view 5.2

    Thank you!

It is not supported at this time... but there are some guides available which show that this is possible.  Only Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit Standard/Enterprise is supported.

I had MS Virtual Server installed VMware Server 2, but it was on a Windows 2003 host.

Server installation adds two virtual networks.  (VMnet1 and VMnet8.)  Try disabling the and see if you can remote into.  Otherwise, if you uninstall the server, are you able to distance in the host again?  (These are the solutions, just in troubleshooting).
