• Evaluation of VMware Player license

  After testing on VMware Player 5, I also tested VMware Workstation 9 in order to get a grip on the differences. When I did uninstalled Workstation and install VMware Player 5 again. I now VMware Player (trial license) at the top of my VMware Player window. This isn't right? What will happen after the expiry of the period 'assessment? I will be able to use VMware Player?  Unstall and reinstall after a workstation installation seem to screw up the terms of the software license.

  VMware Player 5 appears as follows:

  VMware Player
  VMware Player (license expired)
  VMware Player (trial license)
  VMware Player (Non-commercial use only)

  The first 'VMware Player' means that it is authorized for commercial use and a valid serial number has been entered.  The other three should be explicit.

  If you have used VMware Workstation with the 30 day free trial serial number and uninstalled and serial number has not yet expired and install you VMware Player 5 I would expect it to appear as 'VMware Player (trial license)' because the VMware Workstation license key is still in the Windows registry.  It is located at [\VMware Workstation\License.ws.9.0.e1.201202 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.] and this withdrawal must make VMware Player 5 display as "VMware Player (Non-commercial use only).  As always make sure that you have proper backups before editing the Windows registry and or at least save the key to the target before deleting.

  When I bought the ThinApp licenses, I had two serial # s in an e-mail.  A 'customer of ThinApp 4' no serial and a Packer 'ThinApp 4 Virtualization' serial No.  Each of these forums are and where they should be applied?  Packager series # I put in my Win 7 VM I use to create packages and everything seems to work fine with this.  Don't know what the client license is supposed to be for or, the case of applying it.  Thank you!

  The 'customer ThinApp 4' serial No. is not used for anything else... Just something we automatically generate for unknown reasons... Just put the key in Manager links, and you're ready to go...

• Licensing VMware thinapp

  Hi all, I am new to the computer the end-user of VMware product. I saw the Thin-app license purchased in inventory, but with variations (thinapp 4 client 200 customers, customer customers inherited 50 thinapp 4, thinapp 4 virtualization packager3 instance, thinapp 4 Packer 5 legacy instance).

  The only "thinapp" type currently supported is Microsoft AppV and then only for Adobe Adobe Reader 11.0.x and later versions.

• ThinApp licenses in a Citrix XenApp environment

  We try to understand the client for a license model ThinApp applied where it is deployed via Citrix XenApp / Terminal Server Services.  We have an application with ThinApp and stored on a single file server.  We have a farm of servers Citrix XenApp edition this request to a group of users.  My questions are:

  1. the client license ThinApp apply to concurrent users who are instatiating the application and it looks Citrx notice?  In other if I have 50 concurrent users should words I 50 ThinApp client licenses?

  2. the client license ThinApp applies to the Citrix server that publishes the application?  In other words if I have 50 Citrix XenApp / Services Terminal Server servers do I need 50 ThinApp client licenses regardless of the number of users access the application servers?

  3. the license ThinApp applies to the device that is running the Citrix client to 'see' the application?  In other words if I have 50 users who use the application that is published by Citrix, but they all use a single workstation at different times of the day would be I just need a ThinApp client license?  What happens if I had 1 user who uses up to 50 different jobs during his week of work - which would mean that I need 50 client licenses?

  ThinApp is allowed per the client access.  Thus, customers 50 = 50 licenses.

• VMWare Workstation license transfer

  I searched and followed the General information here which was to uninstall VMWare and re - install on a new computer.  The original VMware was version 8 x and I never upgraded to 9 or 10.  Now that I'm moving computers, I uninstalled x 8 and downloaded 10.  When installing, I enter my license key but it says my key is invalid.  I'm reaching out to my sales person to Ingram, but I was wondering if I am doing something technically wrong.

  Each major version requires a new license key.  If you only have a version 8.x license, you will need to download and install the latest version of 8.x (click on the link to the download page of other Versions on the workstation), or upgrade your license to a version 10.x license.

  (1) I know for critical VMware is allowed up to 3 host Max and 192 GB / RAM. But what about vRAM pool if I don't use that 2 host, it will always allocate up to 192 GB of RAM?

  (2) if I use the Standard of Vsphere 5 license, I'll be only entitled 32 GB of vRAM for a license pool? Which means that if I buy a license 2, I have up to 64 GB of vRAM pool?

  (3) is the maximum amount of allocated to a VM 96 GB of VRAM? What happens if I have purchased 2 license of the company more. Willl be 1 TB?

  You're right, your entitlement would be 64 GB on each host.  And Yes, if you have only 1 host with a single CPU, then you would have 1 license and 32GB vRAM right.

• Visio 2010 Thinapp - license number

  Hi all

  Everyone has problems try thinapp Visio 2010? I tried on Thinapp 4.5 and 4.6 but still the same problem, its complete once and momentum for the first time, that he has a problem trying to activate even if this was done as part of the capture.

  I thinapp had and deploy Visio 2010 in our environment.  Just make sure that preinstall you the Office 2010 for App-V deployment kit before your capture and the computer targets.

  I used the command VISIOPREM = 1 line.

  I think to buy VMWare Workstation, so I can test Windows 2008 R2 on my home PC (don't have a new server yet).   If I buy VMWare workstation can only use this license for a single host or I can use it for multiple hosts.

  Install Workstation on the host that you use most of the time to work with virtual machines.

  On all other computers, install the free VMplayer.

  Both products are directly compatible Exchange you the virtual machines from one host to the host no matter if this host run VMplayer or workstation

  Really quick question - if all goes well

  Does anyone know what percentage of the cost of the VMware product free of charge for subscriptions - I thought that's about 10 to 20%, but I could do with a closed figure. Is this different for each product? I'm looking at licensing for vSphere Essentials.

  Also want to make sure I'm OK to just keep buying in three packs and adding on several hosts over time - for example 2 copies x essential (each bearing 3 guests) allows for 6 guests.

  Membership is about 10% of the price of the product per year, but 2 and 3 years come with a discount.

  Essentials has a strict limit of 3 armies. You can buy 2 packs of essentials, but you need to configure 2 different vCenters manage 3 guests each. If you need more of 3 guests to a vCenter, forget Essentials.
