VMware View best tips please

I currently have a virtual PC which I use as the 'master PC virtual office' for our virtual desktop environment.

I created 3 office pools (2 persistent and the other not persistent) who all use cold imageof this virtual machine.

The number of VMS in each pool is quite small at the moment, but is expected to increase.

I wonder if there is a limit to the number of office pools or desktop computers in each pool that can use the same image and also if it is advisable to have separate masters work stations for each pool?

Thank you very much

It depends on what you want.

ID have a Build different gold for each thin with only the applications or shortcuts app environment in this image.

Downside is more gold images update if there are changes.

with a gold medal and several works of snapshots, but you have to look if updates are needed, what you do for multiple snapshots.

with a gold medal and a snapshot I think works very well dependin on your host, storage and LAN speeds.  personally id stick to 50 max

How to properly protect a server with VMware View VMware vSphere running? Our RPO/RTO is ideally < 2 hrs?

We have 100 customers and we use a roaming profile. TIA

    Hello

Haven't seen specific guides. There are a few examples of 3rd party that might give you some ideas. VCenter Heartbeat also supports the component View Composer.

Little old (2009), but interesting to read:

    http://www.EMC.com/collateral/software/technical-documentation/h6534-business-continuity-VMware-view-Celerra-VMware-SRM-blueprint.PDF

Maybe the next version of view could address this? If you use roaming profiles, and then you just a way to replicate users DR and point to the DR View Pool, failover would take only a DNS change. Dealing with linked clones and persistent readers makes many tricker.

I would consider the XP VM to throw objects, is the user customization, you need to reproduce for them in DR.

  • VMware View and Outlook 2007 advice please

    Hello

We lack of Vmware view, a single master with ~ 20 linked clones. I have two questions by email:

Microsoft recommends that Outlook 2007 is running in cached mode, but is there an advantage to running customer reviews in cached mode? In my experience, the client goes into maintenance mode when the user disconnects, and seems to be regenerated each time.

I would like to change the default Outlook settings (address book, options, etc) but I don't see how to do on the 'master' for all users - is possible to do?

    Thank you very much

    A

You mention that you use linked clones. Given that, my opinion is that you absolutely don't want to use mode cached for the following reasons:

    1. the cached copy of the mailbox of the user will be (probably significantly) increase the size of the system disks in your virtual machine and your drive of the user's data (if you use them). This isn't a good use of the disc in my opinion and you be essentially double your Exchange storage needs.

    2. cached mode is a great strategy for WAN needs or for overcrowded overexploited mailbox servers. If your script does not match one of these then most likely, you can't all the performance improvements implemented cache mode can provide. Most likely your virtual office computer is sitting on the same DC/LAN, and you have several gigabit connectivity for your ESX servers.

    3. again, depending on how you manage your drive/user data user profiles you can be place your copy cached on the system disk. If so, this will make powerful capabilities such as Refresh and recompose less useful whenever you make a recreation of the copy cached in the mailbox.

    4. If you use a redirection of folder/roaming profile with cached mode, you do not want to be put the cached copy of the mailbox on a network share that predisposes so you in the solution of disk for user data. I prefer a real profile with approach of redirection of roaming folder for various reasons, most of them associated with management.

    5. the question of the interview you mentioned, which is related to the updated copy cached is not closed to the shutdown/logoff. Do away with the cached mode will fix this but also make sure you have Service Pack 2 for Office 2007 is installed. There are significant fixed Outlook and improvements in performance in there.

6 cached mode can create problems with different search engines that seem to be fashionable these days. All of them want to index the updated copy cached and that they support each other or play nice, it has a negative impact on the performance of Outlook. They can also contribute to #5 above.

There are others, but that's what I have on the top of my head right now.

  • Disable the protocols and encryption algorithms in VMware View connection server and security

    Hello

In my recent deployment, I had a customer request to disable some protocols and encryption at the Server VMware View connection and security. I read some articles and found that this has been achieved by editing the locked.properties file. But when we have edited and replaced the file, users could not connect to the virtual desktop, so came back to us backwards and desktop computers worked fine.

I found a few articles that we don't need to edit the locked.properties file in VMware view Horizon 6. If someone has done this please guide me through. Here are the details of the protocols and encryption algorithms that should be disabled

    Diffie-Hellman key

Enable SSL v2/V3 and TLS 1.1 and 1.2

    Disable the RC4 encryption algorithm

Select the secret of transfer (if possible)

VMware view 6 is the connection to the server and security server.

    Thank you.

    Hello

I implemented the following steps (from the manual):

    1. update the JCE policy files to take in charge the high-strength Cipher Suites

You can add some cipher suites of high resistance for greater assurance, but first you must update the local_policy.jar and US_export_policy.jar files to each server instance and the security strategy for JRE 7 see connection to the server. You update these policy files by downloading the files to extend JCE (Java Cryptography) unlimited strength political jurisdiction from the Oracle Java SE download site 7.

If you include some high-strength cipher suites in the list and you do not replace the policy files, you cannot restart the VMware view Horizon connection to the Server service.

Policy files are located in the directory C:\Program View\Server\jre\lib\security from VMware.

For more information on the download of the JCE unlimited strength jurisdiction policy 7 files, see the Oracle Java SE download site: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html.

After you update the policy files, you need to create backups of the files. If you upgrade the instance of the view connection server or security server, any changes you have made to these files can be replaced, and you may need to restore the backup files.

    2. the changes that policies of global acceptance with ADSI Edit

    • Start the ADSI utility on your computer see connection to the server.
    • In the console tree, select Connect to
    • In the selection or type a unique name text box or a naming context, type the unique name
DC, DC = vdi is vmware, DC = int.
    • In the type or select a text field or the server box, select or type localhost: 389 or the name of a fully qualified domain (FQDN) of the server computer to connect to port 389 followed view.

For example: localhost: 389 or mycomputer.mydomain.com:389

    • Expand the tree of the ADSI Editor, OU = properties, select OU = Global, then select OU = common in the right pane.
    • On the object CN = common, Global = UO, UO = properties, select each attribute that you want to change and enter the new list of security protocols or cipher suites.
      I used the following settings:

    EAP-ServerSSLCipherSuites: \LIST:TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA,TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA,TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA256

    EAP-ServerSSLSecureProtocols_ \LIST:TLSv1.1,TLSv1.2

It is not the highest possible, but they work with all the features of our customers.

    • Restart the service of VMware view Horizon connection server (server connection and security).

This is not Activate secret transfer (if possible) , but other points are covered.

If anyone can give a tip to activate the transfer secret, I would be grateful.

  • Native integration with VMware View

I'm evaluating the access (without client) browser based virtual destops with Ericom AccessNow for VMware View software.

Please find diagram of connection planned for use in the attached file.

Does anyone has tried to do already?

What is the best practice to integrate native and VMware View?

Where can I find the rules of firewall used in the integration of product?

Are there security issues with access by browser-based virtual desktops?

    Thank you much in advance.

In general, we do not see a lot of native discussion here, so maybe this isn't the best place for this post.   You can try this http://communities.vmware.com/people/AdamG53 guy has sent a private message because he used to work for the natives.   I have not seen him active lately, so I don't know if it meets or not.

Exactly THAT PCOIP do not work on the Security server.  If your using VPN and connect to a broker internal conection it should work good as new NAT could shake things.    Should be a simple test however.

  • You are looking for advice or suggestions: Vmware View 4 lab on workstation 7.

    Hi guys,.

I want to build a new laboratory virtualized on a new desktop that I ordered.  I especially want to us to do tests and the growth of knowledge on Vmware View.  I have a desktop HP on order with an i7-930 processor and 16 GB of RAM.  I also have a 7 of my cert VCP 4 Workstation license.

I already know how build a virtualized ESX environment and allow the MV nested within this environment.  My lesson plans are to build two ESX 4 virtual machines, a VM vCenter, a virtual shared storage as a storage device and a server VMware View connection.   I think there should be enough resources on this box to have a work environment (although maybe slow).  I plan only to have two virtual desktops (XP).  I don't need virtual machines to do something more than it is, run and be able to communicate with them with PCoIP XP.

I was hoping someone else might have already tried this and had no additional details.  If this isn't the case, I'd love to hear any suggestions.  I intend to document this lab and I'll be happy to share this document with everyone when I'm done...

    Best regards

    Rick

I have implemented this on a laptop several times. Laptops have 8 GB of memory and it was barely enough to make it usable. ; Your 16 GB of system memory and faster CPU will give you much more room to breathe

Tip: I cut about 20% of the CPU usage on the ESX host nested running under Workstation 7 on Dell D830 computers laptops with processors T7250 in manually choosing the type of VT for ESX hosts nested rather than leave the setting at the default of Automatic.

Also, if it is not necessary to VMotion, you could get a super-quick card Flash or SSD and point that flash all the temp, swap files and VSWP files. SSD. Someone has recently published an article on the difference in speed - Google and you will see what kind of speed increase you could get out your configuration if you are willing to spend that kind of money for quick storage.

  • VmWare View and working group

You can install VMware View in a workgroup environment. What is the view installation sequence?. I tried to installed on a working group and it keep asking to connect to a domain during installation View Composer. Then I discovered that you must install sight connection to the server first, then composer. But the view connection server doesnot allow me to install in a workgroup environment. Thank you.

In regards FT then is it not possible to have that between physical and virtual. Both machines must be virtual.

It should be easy to connect your computers to a new network. Did you create a new vSwitch? The error messages?

  • VMware View Login for users

    Hello

question to VMware View and the connections of users. In VMware VDI, it was only possible to connect as domain\username (NetBios). For our environment (MS HMC) we need the connection [email protected] (UPN), cause HMC will encrypt the NetBIOS name of some internal code number und won't let you change client 'areas', always the root domain must be specified. Customes know only their account name, not the actual username.

Do you have someone try this in VMware View and can tell me that this is possible? Don't want to start a complete installation...

    Thx for your help.

Yes, it is now possible to use the UPN name for login.

  • Testing VMware View 4.0 problems

I test a trial version of VMware View 4 and needs help with some problems, that I manage to get the software to work.

    The problems are:

-Use of vSphere 4.0 Client to manage the ESX, the feature 'Models and virtual computers' server is missing from the inventory menu.

-After creating a Windows XP VM on the ESX Server, I am not able to create a model of the virtual machine.

-Help the administrator view, there is no source of office, and I'm not able to create jobs, or add users or groups, even if I am connected to the server VirtualCenter and display server in the Configuration section.

I have installed and configured the following:

    -ESX 4.0

-VMware vCenter with View Composer on a Windows 2003 server,

-Find out the connection to the server on another Windows 2003 Server

-A Windows XP VM with the view on the ESX Server agent

-client vSphere 4 on my PC

The problems I encounter are similar to the following thread:

    http://communities.VMware.com/thread/255512

the difference in my case is that I installed vCenter and view server connection?

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

It seems that you connect directly to the ESX Server and not to the vCenter.

Sources of funds will be filled when you configured your pools correctly in the display manager.

  • Virtual office to backup VMWare View linked Clone

    Hi all

I would like to know what the best method is to save the virtual office linked clone on VMWare View. For the moment, I use the latest version of vRanger Pro connection with VCB integration.

I don't know if I should save the linked clone himself or the parent VM. What the parent snapshot?

    Please advice. Thank you.

    Sang A

in a persistent pool would really matter because there is no guarantee they would never return the same office again.  If you have a properly configured user environment then persistence or no persistence would not matter that the data would be stored in a place that would be subject to a backup system.   I don't understand the need to safeguard a VDI guest.  back to top comments templates, view servers and the vCenter server.  Comment no way.  backup windows are pretty long already to go back up throw away from devices.
