VMware View Enterprise 5 licenses

Hi all

I tried to search around the forum, but I have not found any answer...

We plan to make a View 5 infrastructure with a host on which will run 40 MV and a vCenter server. This infrastructure will be used for a COMPUTER lab in a school and a few machines for teachers.

We purchase these licenses:

-1 x academic VMware View 5 Enterprise Bundle: Starter Kit (with x 1 basic support/subscription year)

-3 x academic VMware View 5 Enterprise Bundle: package of 10 (with the Support/Basic membership x 1 yr)

If I understand correctly, the VMware licensing is by Sockets, so if I buy a license, I can make a host that is equipped with a plug (and the number of cores). In this case, with the additional licenses for 40 VMS, would I think make a host with more than an outlet? In this case, Sockets how could I implement?

Thanks in advance

Cristian

Hi Christian.

There isn't "vSphere for desktop" included 40 desktop with these licenses.

This means that you can run ESX hosts as much as you want and use all sockets in these hosts to your workstations.

'vSphere for desktop PC' is equivalentto "vSphere Enterpris more ', but the difference is that you are allowed to run the operating systems of office and servers supported on hosts the necessary permits.

The downside with the help of the 'Business' license, is that you will not be able to use linked clones, offline mode, etc.. For these features, you need the "Prime Minister" license.

  • Requires ESX VMware view?

    Hey guys,.

This may be a very stupid question, but do you need ESX(I) to run VMware View?
I guess you need to create a cluster of some sort to host virtual offices and
I wonder if ESX (i) comes into play at all. Try to determine the future needs of license here.

    See you soon

Yes, VMware view must either ESX or ESX (i) to install and also a Virtual Center to be configured and cluster to build with the ESX hosts, added to the cluster.

With regard to the requirement for Vmware View 4.5 Lincense

VMware View is always available in editions company and first and can be purchased as a package or as an add-on for those who have existing vSphere licenses to a separate purchase (which is not part of a set of view). With view 4.5, customers have a way to upgrade available to view Enterprise and View first modules to complete sets. Key updates include:

    • See Business Starter Kit and View Prime Starter Kit now includes VMware vCenter Standard for desktop computers (updated VMware vCenter Foundation for desktop computers).
    • View first beams, View first add-ons and View first upgrades include now the two new components introduced with view 4.5: vShield Endpoint and View Client with Local Mode(formerly known as Offline Desktop)

  • vSphere Hypervisor w / VMware View

    Hello

Is it possible to install VMware View on free ESXi installation? I have not installed ESXi yet because I'm still trying to understand what solution is better suited to my needs.

I'm running it out of my basement and I'm not running an AD network but you can install it if necessary. I have about 40 developers to work wanting to virtual windows XP and windows 7 VPD (is that the correct term for virtual offices) for unrelated work software testing. I believe that the number of developers will double or triple possibly spreading by word of mouth in my office. I bought a new Beefy server to run these MeV on. My original plan was to use ESXI and remote desktop, but I read in VMware View and this sounds like it is made for what I'm trying to do, but I'm not even sure I can get seen working on the free esxi. My experience of VMware consists of VMWare Workstation, so this is a big step upwards. Because these virtual desktops must be always sure I know that view is even interesting to use for this. What do you guys suggest?

    Hey Warbuy,

You don't need a vCenter Server and AD domain to see if technically free version came out. However, when the display is allowed, the license includes "vSphere for desktops", which includes hypervisor ESX\i and vCenter Server. Its vSphere actually Enterprise more you download providing you only run view components, servers, vCenter, offices etc. related connections. So contribution you will eventually purchase licenses you will be covered. On the otherhand, if you are going to only operate during the tests (60 days), you can obtain a license from vCenter server of the trial such as previously mentioned, this will be good also.

    Hope this helps?

  • VMware vs vmware view vs. horizon wdm

    Hi dear friends

I need to know what is withholding wdm of vmware with vmware view with view horizon (features, tools and technical sheet)

If there is this a document please show me

They are essentially the same product, with more recent versions (which contain additional features) coming out under a slightly different name - the order you listed them is also the order of the liberation. VMware VDM has been renamed to VMware View, and when it is included in the Suite of the Horizon, it was changed to Horizon of VMware View. Why do you specifically, the licensing options?

  • VMWare View Horizon and vCenter assessment

    Hello

I'm going to show a customer what Horizon of VMWare View. They currently use an ESXi host 5.5 with vCenter evaluation license. Is it possible to use the view with vCenter assessment? The reason I ask is that I get the following error: "Error vCenter entry."

    Thank you

Which version to use for your vmware view? I guess you try to add vcenter in sight and you get the error message. You must add using domain\admin account.

Also check that you have the necessary permissions.

I said that of course my parent machine is turn on before the shot...

If someone has already solved this, I solution problems of am prenneur.

Thank you in advance for your answers...

    Flow

Your image of parent intervenes using a KMS or MAK?  The best answer is to use KMS activation.

You can also try to issue a /rearm slmgr.vbs at the first boot of the image.  You can only run 3 times, so do not run on the base image, only the related clones.

  • The installation of VMWare View Server program

    Hello

I have a solution of ESXi, vSphere 5 where I host all my virtual servers with a virtual vCenter Management Standard.  I'm working on that I need for a configuration of VMWare View and I was hoping someone here could help me.

I have 12 physical blades to host my VMWare View solution (according to the calculations of number of jobs) and I have VMWare View Bundle licenses.

Ive been reading through the notes and he says that this set comes with an edition of vCenter.

    A few questions:

My existing vCenter instance should be used to manage the VMWare View host or do I need to install a separate instance of vCenter VMWare View and use the license in the bundle?

I guess I should install ESXi instances in the beam that will allow me to supply only desktop computers?

If I have servers connection and composer, should they be hosted in Clusters VMWare View or the cluster of servers existing vsphere 5?

If this is the case, I also have a question about the network configuration.  When I install the ESXi for VMWare View, will I still have a requirement for a management console, the vmkernel, and the 'Front End' (for users IP address) vnic to the vswitch?

Another question about the round rbin DNS.  I try to also install Connection 2 and 2 servers of composer whose load is balanced.  Anyone has any info on setting up of Robin DNS?

    Thank you very much

We use a 6 with network storage based physical NETWORK adapter configuration.

You will have a default port for management.  vMotion is split to its own IP address, and these two vmkernel ports are on the same vSwitch, with natachasery used by one and waiting for the other.

iSCSI must be separated from its own vSwitch and pair of NICs as well supported by linked vmkernel ports for redundancy and load balancing.

This leaves at least another vSwitch and pair of natachasery to the actual traffic of vm.

  • Oracle Enterprise Edition licenses - base metric

    Oracle: 10G (10.2.0.4) 64 - bit Enterprise Edition
Running on Intel Xeon chips, which, in my view, have a coefficient of multiple base of 0.5

We have 540 licenses NUP on our site. We obviously have a direct box, and a few test boxes.

One of our test boxes have 4 cores (Intel Xeon chip). Using minimum for Enterprise Edition licenses, after applying the base of 0.5 factor there would be 2 hearts, I believe that we need to 25 licenses NUP by heart, which would be = 50 NUP minimum for this test area.

    Is this right?

My concern is that there may be a minimum of 4 cores (after factor) for Enterprise Edition. I can't find anything that confirms this. I can only find maximum rates for Standard, nothing for Enterprise Edition edition.

If there is a minimum of 4 cores, so I need to get one of these test boxes.

Everyone knows the facts on this?

    Thank you very much.

Again, as everyone said above, you should contact Oracle Sales Rep.

But still, let me answer your question, it is noted as minimum of 4 cores for enterprise edition. You can have license NUP even on 1 CPU.

Another thing that might be beneficial, Oraclel gives you enterprise of limited use license to your Test/Dev box which means that you need only minimum NUP 10 s for Test/Dev business instead of the minimum of 25. This will save you 15 NUP by processor. But to do this, you must talk to Oracle or any third party provider.

But even once best bet is o talk to Sales Rep.

  • VMWare View on VMware vSphere Hypervisor

    Hello

VMWare View can run on VMware vSphere Hypervisor (free version)?

As written, you have vCenter Server and vCenter does not free ESXi...

    There are only two solutions:

    • buy a package of vSphere with vCenter and view ESXi AND the licensing module
    • buy full them see packages that also include the part of vSphere
  • Questions about VMware View

Hi, I need to provide always on desktops to remote 50 users. I have been using VMware workstation to provide these desktop computers, but it was a temporary solution that is quick and easy.

I started by installing the free ESXi which works fine except that these virtual machines are running an application that requires DirectX. When reading information VMware views looks like it's maybe the solution I need, but I can't say if she can provide always on workstations or if desktop computers are provided according to the needs. My 2nd concern is cost. I don't mind spending the money for VMware View, but looks like I have to have seen running in AD and that it will require me to install many other products such as VMware infrastructure 3.5. Someone has some good links to install VMware View and the provisioning of desktops?

When you purchase View 4.5, business or first, you get ESX and vSphere vCenter / I.  If you are supported on this part.  You don't need to buy that separately.

With respect to reviews, the guides are:

To start using the doc started get: http://pubs.vmware.com/view45/ol/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm#href=get_started/t_getstarted.html

http://www.VMware.com/files/PDF/VMware-View45-evaluators-Guide.PDF -> is excellent for your POC on VMWare View.

    http://www.vmware.com/pdf/view45_installation_guide.pdf -> installation guide.

You will need to have Active Directory in your environment.  View is used to automatically configure your desktop to your users.

If you use clones of link or local mode (the ability to check your workstations), then you will need to Prime Minister, Enterprise edition will be beneficial.

    Hope this helps,

  • You are looking for advice or suggestions: Vmware View 4 lab on workstation 7.

    Hi guys,.

I want to build a new laboratory virtualized on a new desktop that I ordered.  I especially want to us to do tests and the growth of knowledge on Vmware View.  I have a desktop HP on order with an i7-930 processor and 16 GB of RAM.  I also have a 7 of my cert VCP 4 Workstation license.

I already know how build a virtualized ESX environment and allow the MV nested within this environment.  My lesson plans are to build two ESX 4 virtual machines, a VM vCenter, a virtual shared storage as a storage device and a server VMware View connection.   I think there should be enough resources on this box to have a work environment (although maybe slow).  I plan only to have two virtual desktops (XP).  I don't need virtual machines to do something more than it is, run and be able to communicate with them with PCoIP XP.

I was hoping someone else might have already tried this and had no additional details.  If this isn't the case, I'd love to hear any suggestions.  I intend to document this lab and I'll be happy to share this document with everyone when I'm done...

    Best regards

    Rick

I have implemented this on a laptop several times. Laptops have 8 GB of memory and it was barely enough to make it usable. ; Your 16 GB of system memory and faster CPU will give you much more room to breathe

Tip: I cut about 20% of the CPU usage on the ESX host nested running under Workstation 7 on Dell D830 computers laptops with processors T7250 in manually choosing the type of VT for ESX hosts nested rather than leave the setting at the default of Automatic.

Also, if it is not necessary to VMotion, you could get a super-quick card Flash or SSD and point that flash all the temp, swap files and VSWP files. SSD. Someone has recently published an article on the difference in speed - Google and you will see what kind of speed increase you could get out your configuration if you are willing to spend that kind of money for quick storage.

  • VMware View may be a good alternative for the Terminal Services?

    Hello people,

We run the Terminal Services on Windows Server 2003 Ent. in a cluster environment. We have 4 TS who handle the load. Now, we are faced with a high volume of users within the company. We have a main office (Headquarters) and 10 more ease, all linking to the seat through the DRC. We are trying to find a better solution to deal with the high volume in a better way and we have VMware View.

Do you think that is a good alternative?

Any input, advice is really enjoying it.

    Thank you.

I think that Desktop Virtualization (side Datacenter) and Terminal Server virtualization (Citrix or TS/RDP) pro and cons.

You must deliver multiple environments or move the entire desktop to datacenter? Desktop virtualization could be better.

You must provide a single application (or a few)? TS or some sort of virtualization to applications (such as ThinApp) solution could be better.

Check out what you really need and how to access these services.

Also consider licensing and where you can save costs.

  • Provision of servers across the Web using VMware View 4.0

    Hello

I have an obligation to provide servers via http. I have the license for Vmware View, but have no idea where to start? I installed view a server in the DMZ, but we must talk back to the field so I put discarded it.

My ultimate goal is to open a web browser and type the address of a server, and log in to access to the server via the web browser.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Rgds,

    Paul.

View supports the addition of server farms existing Terminal Server to it's broker for connections giving the user a single place to connect to their strong server and virtual desktop terminal server.   All you have to do is create a new pool and add your terminal servers to the pool.  Notice only addresses the brokerage operations of connections to Terminal servers.
