VMware View is over-equipped?

Hello!

Having a small company of VMware View seems MUCH too complicated and overengineered. Can this be true?

I mean that the alternative is a pWindows machine to connect to a machine vWindows with mstsc.exe. I know it is not completely the same, but it is also very long path between a solution that works out-of-the-box and VMware View with much installation of the client OS, directory servers, see security, view connection server, server transfer from view, the slim viewers, tool view composer and General everything that is necessary to get this working.

And then it only works for Windows desktop computers. Using something like the console in vSphere client redirection is able to display all the OS' are - even Android!

(Ok! Forcing my employees to use for their daily work vSphere client would proberbly many resignations ;-)) but I is possible!

Am I missing something here? I mean VMware-view-evaluators - Guide.pdf is 152 pages (!) - long 'mstsc.exe remoteserver' is just... a line?

Is there a simple solution for this. It's like building a spaceship to get a Coke to the nearest 7-11. It's 'just' a shutoff Holy crap! :-)

Best regards

Don't forget when you are dealing with 10-50 VM that is not for to be honest.

You see a company of 10 or 20 depending on what lines you have you can find a service provider where they can provide you with da (computer desktop as a Service) and which would reduce as much cost

I did a small deployment without costly storage and costly servers and the system worked well.

Then give the user a Zero-Client and boom!

Recently, I did an upgrade on VMware View VMware view horizon 5.2 4.6 square.

Can I open a session in the 5.2 Client view, see the list of office pools, select a pool, the desk at work close and try to open remotely. After 1 second, this error appears:

Error: Overview of VMware View Client: The connection to the remote computer has ended.

    What does not work:

I even tried to build a new pool of desktop Windows 7 in a new OU in the active without optimizations VDI directory or group policy. I tried with and without the firewall Windows is activated. In any case, this new office pool works externally via any Agent from view but the view Agent 5.2.0.

Is it the 5.2.0 Agent view have the same firewall/port that the Agent View 5.1.3 requirements? What else can I test or try to get external PCoIP for desktop computers to work with the view Agent 5.2.0?

Finally, we discovered the problem / solution. We on a security apparatus of Palo Alto Networks that blocked traffic PCoIP 5.2.0 but not PCoIP 5.1.3 traffic.

According to a backline Vmware engineer:

"A change was made to the ephemeral TLS connection that is used to establish trust and to negotiate parameters for subsequent UDP traffic network. This change allows the customer to use their own certificate for TLS server for this connection. For more details of what happens during the installation of PCoIP, and how this changed view 5.2, see KB 1038762. »

It seems that Palo Alto Networks did not like this change. When we removed our Palo Alto of WAN device, PCoIP 5.2.0 connections could be created. We finally had create a rule to allow the category: private-ip-addresses and URL: pcoip - by default-sni. Once this change has been made, connections WAN PCoIP 5.2.0 started working.

  • With VMware View Server using LDAPS (port 636)

I've been responsible for something that seems impossible/not supported.

VMware View Server uses port 389 for LDAP.  My task is to do view to use instead the port 636 (LDAP over SSL).  The accusation is that the replicated servers in VMware View data not encrypted between other on port 389.

So far in my quest, I did no progress in this project.  However, I was able to test that manual connections can now be performed (with ADSI Edit) with port port SSL 636 other replicated servers view.  Problem is that the view seems to have hard-coded to use port 389 and cannot be moved to use LDAPS.

There are instructions to do something like this in vCenter (http://www.vstable.com/2012/01/27/vcenter-5-active-directory-web-services-error-1209/) (Security Virtual Lab: & amp; nbsp;) Architecture - Blog - proSauce), but nothing related to the sight of the surfaces in a Google search.

Someone at - it have a Yes or whinny if possible?

EDIT: Moved to the correct community.

It is not easy being responsible for something impossible!

Connection view servers have an AD LDS instance, and replication between servers using the AD LDS replication. This is a replication mechanism secure by using the replication RPC, LDAP and Kerberos and secure without having to implement LDAP over SSL on 636.

The articles you refer to are actually on the definition of a port number unused LDAPS access of Web Active Directory Services with vCenter Server to get rid of an event without danger. It does nothing to do with replication between LDAP servers. View prevents remote access Active Directory Web services anyway with a specific firewall rule so that remote users have no access to it.

The only reason why you can use LDAPS with AD LDS is if you support simple LDAP connections. The use of SSL would mean that the simple bind passwords are not sent in the clear. In the case of the view, simple LDAP connections are not enabled in any case.

In summary, what you're trying to do is useless.

  • VMware View Enterprise 5 licenses

    Hi all

I tried to search around the forum, but I have not found any answer...

We plan to make a View 5 infrastructure with a host on which will run 40 MV and a vCenter server. This infrastructure will be used for a COMPUTER lab in a school and a few machines for teachers.

    We purchase these licenses:

-1 x academic VMware View 5 Enterprise Bundle: Starter Kit (with x 1 basic support/subscription year)

-3 x academic VMware View 5 Enterprise Bundle: package of 10 (with the Support/Basic membership x 1 yr)

If I understand correctly, the VMware licensing is by Sockets, so if I buy a license, I can make a host that is equipped with a plug (and the number of cores). In this case, with the additional licenses for 40 VMS, would I think make a host with more than an outlet? In this case, Sockets how could I implement?

    Thanks in advance

    Cristian

    Hi Christian.

There isn't "vSphere for desktop" included 40 desktop with these licenses.

This means that you can run ESX hosts as much as you want and use all sockets in these hosts to your workstations.

'vSphere for desktop PC' is equivalentto "vSphere Enterpris more ', but the difference is that you are allowed to run the operating systems of office and servers supported on hosts the necessary permits.

The downside with the help of the 'Business' license, is that you will not be able to use linked clones, offline mode, etc.. For these features, you need the "Prime Minister" license.

  • VMware View 5 PCoIP get a black screen on wide AREA network

    Hello community,

I got a VMware View 5 Infrastructure with a vCenter Server, a connectionserver of view and some clients such as VMs.

Internally, everything works - connections PCoIP and RDP do their job very well.

Know that we want to publish the vDesktops over the WAN. Users must connect to the virtual machines in their laptops or iPad (or iPhone) at home. So, we have configured our firewall to open the IP Wan (194.209.166.xy) to the internal IP (192.168.199.xy). A DNS entry for view.xy.com shows the IP WAN. If the WAN connection to infrastructure display RDP works - but PCoIP connections shows a black screen after 10 to 30 seconds after logon. We never see an interaction of oder break Windows. The screen is black after the logoninformations in the client view.

We have configured the connectionserver display settings as described in some articles here... 7

    The external url HTTPS: https://view.xy.com

checkbox activ: tunnel connection secure user desktop

    PCoIP external url: 194.209.166.xy:4172

checkbox activ: use pcoip gateway secure for pcoip Desktop connections

We have forgotten to do some settings or is it an another workaround to work with PCoIP over the WAN?

    Kind regards

  • Poor performance VMWare View 4.6

We deployed a small VMWare View solution for administrative personnel, accounting and CAD / drafting of users. Currently, we have race 21 VM and received daily complaints about the performance, some days better than others but all well below the level of performance of a desktop computer configured in a way appropriate. We are either duty put an end to the use of the output of this system and return to the standard desktop computers or add an additional server to view VMWare and persevere, we can find the cause of the weak performance of hope.

    Here is the specification of

    The virtual computer running server:

    Dell PE R510, 2 x 6 core Xeon 5670 CPU clocked at 2,933 ghz, 64 GB of memory, TB 1.81 storage Raid 5 using 6-disc 7200 tr / MIN SATA 6 g, NICs 4 x 1 Gbit

    Configuration of the VM:

Windows 7 32 - bit, 2 CPU and 3 GB of memory by the system, we have 3 pools Clone related to the installation of specific software for accounting, Admin, and CAD.

I can't see were the loss of performance is. Sometimes the users sessions hang for a few seconds when they choose the various functions in the office or AutoCad, then the system is again significant. Other times the screen quality degrades a bit before clear. For some office programs take an excessive amount of time to load and become available. Sometimes to connect or general file / network access is slow, summary record lists taking extended periods to update or view the content. Sometimes of functions such as print and trace take excessive amounts of time before appear in their respective dialog boxes.

I've attached screenshots of our performance to review statistics. Any help would be welcome.

    Hi Matt,

    Please provide more information.

On a hardware RAID 5 type 6-pin, your number of IOP on a RAID 5 is about 130 IOPS / s based on an 80% writing / reading of 20% ratio.

You use 21 workstations more than 130 IOPS / s, then you're essentially allowing for 6 inputs/outputs by the office without any room for overhead.

Now, if you have moved to 15K SAS with the same amount of battery, you would end up with a result of 304 IOPS / s based on the same report.

21 offices spread over 304 is 14 inputs/OUTPUTS per desktop, but again, no overhead.

Essentially, simply by moving to 15 K SAS, you more than double your IO, but your RAID set is not optimal.

If you went hardware RAID 10 with the same number of PIN, your IOPS / s would rise to 555 based on the same ratios.

21 workstations more IOPS 555 / s 26 IOPS / sec per desktop computer that comes close to the 30-40 recommended for VDI.

If you can afford to go 8 x 600 GB 15 K on your R510, surprise you pleasently with performance - he would net you have a 740 IOP account

21 offices on 740 IOPS / IOPS 35 s / s by the office which is more in line with the recommendation of VDI.

I mine with a range 40 IOPS / sec per office more overhead, and we have no problem on our end here.

Do not give up, with a little more work and planning, you could end up with a great platform - we use the R510 is there as well and love them.

I hope that helps you, it's a great place to ask questions and get answers.

I'm also on Twitter if you want to ask more questions, more than happy to help you!

  • VMware View 4.6 and vSphere Client performance

    Hello world

    I prepare a demo for VMware View 4.6, a small, with internal disks (3 x 600 GB, 6 GB/s SAS, 10 k RPM RAID 5), network: 100 MB (it was never a problem demos), within IBM x 3650 M3, 32 GB of RAM, 2 x xeon 4 c E5620 2.4 GHz.

There are 3 virtual machines of Windows 2008 R2 (4 GB RAM and 20 GB disks) and 6 virtual desktops (2 GB RAM) and 30 GB drive XP

    In 10 k RPM there is 150 IOPS / s, so 3 drives x 150 = 450 IOPS / s-> 450 / 9 mV = 50 IOPS / s p/vm. I know that if IOPSp/vm is over 30, it's good, so this seems like a good script.

I don't know what should I look to find the cause of poor performance.

VI Client is really slow, and worse even desktop computers.

Can you guide me to find the problem please?

    Thank you!

  • Deleting events in VMware View administrator

    Hello

How can I remove events in the administrator of the display (here I have the version 4.6)?

Due to a configuration problem now I have the same error over 3,000 events, and I'd be happy if I can delete them.

    Kind regards

    André

You might be able to delete directly from SQL, using the events and event_data tables in the case of database.   I found th informaton below on page 10 of the guide to integration of VMware View.  I want to backup my database of events before performing any manipulation.

VMware View provides details on all tables of database events. After a certain period of time elapsed

Since writing to event record, VMware View deletes the record of the event, and event_data tables. You can

Administrator display allows you to configure the period for which the database maintains a register to the event and

    tables of event_data. See the

Installation of VMware View document for more information.

  • Without client VMware View

Setting up a server of security for our Organization.  Initially, I was happy because I imagined that most of our users could potentially connect to our farm from view with no client installation needed and simply make use of the RDP in Windows client.  However, it quickly became obvious that the VMware View Client must be on the system before connecting.  If the view Client simply uses RDP to connect to the farm from the view in any case, why should a download client?  It would be a huge advantage over Citrix, if it was made possible.

You can have your users go to the web address of the server your connection and you connect this way. It automatically installs the client. If it works for you?

  • Connections external vmware view 4.5

External connections disconnect after 10-15 seconds.

I have a server configuration of security for users of the internet.

I checked the ports 80 and 443 are open on the firewall.

I can actually connect using pcoip customer, select the pool that I want to connect.

I hit connect, and looks like it will work and see a black box, then it disconnects in the error box: "the connection to the remote computer is over."

Everything works internally, I can connect via the server security or the connection to the server without any problem.

I read the other post of the users who have had the same problem, and one of the solutions is to direct connections not, but I can't this setting around vmware view 4.5.

See 4.5 supports the protocols RDP and PCOIP for accessing jobs. If you use PCOIP, then the customer need to establish a VPN before you start the client. RDP would be able to support the client connection to the WWW through the Security server.

  • VMware View and MS Windows 7 License Manager

I'm looking to install VMware View and use Windows 7 Ent or

What are the Microsoft Licensing options?

Is the use of a server KMS, the best solution, or should I just

use a key in the specification of customization, as I did with Windows XP?

If you have a deployment of medium to high, I suggest to use a KMS server to validate the license. If you enter your MAK license and deploy several pools or in the pool even over and over again. each time Windows will activate using a new MAK license until they are all exhausted.

I just went through an installation of KMS server, and I have to say was one of install it more simple I've ever done.

  • ThinPro with VMware View USB Redirection

    Hi all:

I'm trying to configure my workstation (t620 ThinPro 5.1 running) to start required services necessary for USB with VMware View forwarding at startup.  I tried to add the command to /etc/rc.local and created my own init.d script, but none of these options automatically launch services.  Run manually /etc/rc.local and the custom init.d script launches the services successfully.

Has someone managed to get the necessary USB redirection services running at the start?  Any guidance is appreciated.

    Thank you.

Solved my problem... changed under USB Manager Remote Protocol of VMware View.  Updated this setting caused VMware services to run at startup.
