VOIP (Asterisk) on ESXi 5?

I know that previous versions is not recommended for voip porpuses (because small 'delays' network are critical and can make "jitter" ing questions and others).

ESXi 5.0 is ready for VOIP in a production environment yet?

Thank you very much!

There are many people who run asterisk (and other VOIP solutions as MiTeL and Cisco) in ESXi, and they work fine.  At least Cisco and Mitel officially support running on VMware.

  • Getting started with VMware ESXi

Please forgive me, because I'm just getting started with virtualization in the data center (ESX and ESXi). I been using virtualization desktop and server (player and GSX Server and Workstation) for several years now and I'd like to see if ESXi would be a good choice for an amateur system in order to use a training platform.

Are my limited infrastructure management tools, or are there third-party or community free equivalents that will make the most much (not necessarily all) Infrastructure functions for me getting started with ESXi? I can't afford the cost of a license of Infrastructure to learn just the platform and also have a few questions regarding the ESXi environment.

ESXi abstract everything, or I can pass through some devices (for example, a map of Zaptel for VoIP Asterisk) to a guest operating system? That would be my only reason for the use of a Linux host and stick with VMware Server instead of going completely virtual.

Any assistance to the start-up, as well as good resources for someone new data center virtualization (no virtualization in general) would be very appreciated. I tried to read some briefs VMware tech directly, and a part of the documentation can be downright confusing.

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to the next meeting.

ESX are equipped with a fully functioing 60 days trial license - ESXi when correctly entered, you will receive an unexpiring licenses to run ESXi - discover https://www.vmware.com/tryvmware/?p=esxi

  • ESXi accessing is not in LAN VOIP

I'm working on the creation of Ubuntu SMTP relay for VOIP to a client system send emails to Office365 Exchange but I'm running into a problem where I can't access the VOIP Lan.  I also have a Win2012 server on the ESXi host and or systems can access the VOIP lan.

    Domain Lan 10.10.10.1 - 255

    Field subnet 255.255.255.0

    Domain Gateway 10.10.10.10.1

    VOIP Lan 10.10.12.1 - 255

    Subnet 255.255.255.0 VoIP

    10.10.12.1 VOIP gateway

The ESXi can ping other servers on the LAN area, but not the LAN for VOIP, but other servers in the domain can ping both the ESXi and the VOIP LAN.  Any other computer networks, you can transverse.

I could use some guidance on the place where to adjust the settings for my ESXi to access both networks.

    Thanks for your help.

After entering, but all of the adjustment of the system of ESXi old I configured the VOIP switch to work on the vlan '2', see the picture of the "old ESXi networking adaptors' above and now the SMTP box protocol runs on the right side of the network.  Thanks to Jeff for all the help!

  • Asterisk using Vm-Ware

I did some research to see on our asterisk server virtualization. And most of the information I have googled and searched these forums are all about 2 years or older. The more information I found says you can virtualize asterisk and SIP/IAX will work very well, but anything that requires a hardware (cards Digium T1/PRI, analog line card, etc.) is a no go with ESXI. And on the same principle a characteristic assuming hardware timing problems.

All information being two years old and given the popularity of asterisk and its derivites are nowadays as a solution of VoIP, PBX, IVR, ect, cheap easy and very efficient (and, resalable) I'd like to think these questions had been resolved, but since I can't find an answer concerete a sense or in the other after a good bit of googleing and research forum I thought I would ask here.

Asterisk can be virtualized and material use add on cards for example digital map T1/PRI, analog lines, etc. using the host cards virtual latest version of ESXi 4?

Welcome to the community - I'm sorry to say a lot of the same restrictions exist yet - VMware cannot virtualize speacialty maps as analogue or digital line cards - material timing as vSphere performance and speed and capabilities iumproved -.

  • SPA3102 CID has not managed to asterisk

    Hello

I have several 3102 to FXO line with asterisk integration.

The only thing that I was unable to make it work, even with the option:

PSTN to VoIP CID CID: Yes

Was to the CID go to the asterisk, if I check the info on 3102 tab, in last PSTN Caller:, I can see the last number of the caller.

I have what would be missing?

    Thanks in advance,
    Jorge Bastos,

It seems that "yours" RTC gives CID information between the first and second ring. Currently, PROMPTS for Asterisk is sent immediately, for example before the CID is known. It must be delayed until the CID is available.

Go to the section "FXO Timer values".

The "PSTN Answer Delay" value number (in seconds) which is a little more than sound period on your PSTN line. Period of ring is about 5 second in most countries. so, I recommend that you use 7 seconds here in this case.

  • RV082 Asterisk PBX

    The evening

I will have a headache to get our Asterisk based pbx to work properly behind new RV082.  If I have just a Wan connection to the top of its fine, but as soon as it is defined in load balancing mode both connections I get an audio course.

I tried all methods I can think to bind the IP PBX to Wan2, (where I like to keep voip traffic) but nothing seems to work reliably

the RV082 runs in the latest firmware v4.2.1.02, PBX is connected on port 8, priority is set to high, with a static ip address of 192.168.1.65

wan1 both wan2 have a static IP, configuring a pppoe MTU 1452 manual connection (recommend ISPS).

the sip_nat in the PBX is set correctly to use the static ip address of wan2 with active NAT.

I tried protocol binding ports of voip service to and from the pbx with the destination as wan2 ip, also with the destination as trunk provider. I tried linking all the traffic of the PBX to wan2 in the firewall configuration, although it will not work.

Do not really complicated, can anyone suggest anything that I might be missing?

    any suggestions gratefully received

Hi Glenn, the destination of the link of the Protocol should be 0.0.0.0 and also try to specify all services. In addition, all phones should also be linked to WAN 2 not only the server.

  • VOIP through ipsec

    Hi all

I have configured an IPSEC tunnel from site to site (site1) ASA5510 and sonicwall (site 2). The ipsec tunnel is established and I can ping both subnets

Each. I use ASA5510 as the VoIP gateway. That is to say, I gave the ip address of the voip service provider in sonicwall for routing traffic to this IP to IPsec tunnel.

Routing happens and packets to this address ip publc reached at cisco and it's to go as well. The site 2 SIP client is able to register to the

VoIP provider. But whenever he makes calls to other clients in site 2 her phone rings, but he can't hear anything after he answered the call. The appellant is

abrupt voice. Second, when a SIP client called site 1 site 2 is not yet able to reach him.  Site 2 phone isn't even when ringing

calls from site 1. We have software phones, but also the hardphone. I think it might be because of the IPsec tunnel problem.  One thing is the asterisk voip Server

isn't under the site 1 or 2 siet is off-line, ASA5510. Will this be the issue? Plese give ideas on this... Thank you

    Thank you & best regards

    Hans Emmanuel

    Hello

I think the problem is routing if the voice is not passing thru or filtering of ports for voice traffic.

There were some bugs SIP on some versions of the SAA as well as inspection of SIP.

Try to disable SIP on the ASA inspection just to see if the problem persists and try to ensure that the routing of both sides is correct for voice traffic.

If the problem persists, you may include a drawing to try to help you.

  • ESXi storage options

I'm about to deploy my largest installation of VMware ESXi Free Edition (not very important compared to others may have known) so far and I was wondering if I could get a couple of pointers when it comes to storage options.

First, let me describe what I'm getting into.  It is a server with 2 x XEON 6 core 2.4 ghz processor, 32 GB of Ram, 4 network ports (2 on board, 2 via a pcie 2port card).  I plan on 4 servers for virtualization on it.  1 e-mail server in server 2008 R2 for server\pop3 line, 1 desktop Server 2008 R2 Remote Server that will run a CRM program and Microsoft Office Applications for remote users, 1 server with Server 2003 Standard VOIP phone and low 1 misc use 2003 Server standard.  It's a 2U with 8 drive bays server that accepts disks SAS or SATA, supporting all popular RAID options.

My question is it would be better to load the server with SAS or SATA drives, or go with a SAN iSCSI/NFS?  I don't have a lot of experience using a SAN with VMware system, but I'm familiar with the whole process of implementing a network dedicated to the use of SAN.  Moreover, how should storage be configured in what concerns both RAID and data warehouse?  It is better to have a big RAID disk with a large store of data or better break down?

I would be grateful for all comments, suggestions or anything else, you might want to add.

    Thank you

    Richard

With the information given, and assuming that no not all 40 users are power users, I would probably start with local storage to reduce the unnecessary complexity. With for example disks SAS 6 x 300 GB in a RAID 5 set you'll ~ 1 500 GB of capacity can be used for virtual machines. Make sure you that the RAID controller is equipped with at least 512 MB of memory write cache backup battery for the functioning of the writeback (HP calls this suppliers BBWC/FBWC, others call it BBU). This makes a huge difference in write performance. I currently maintain a few small plants, one with hosts HP DL380 G7 (2 x 6 core CPU, the local SAS drives) running in an environment with ~ 30 users (including a server terminal server different servers W2K3) and CPU rarely reaches 15%.

If you plan to install ESXi 4.x on this host, remember to recreate the data store created automatically with a larger size of block (for example 8 MB) to allow more than 256 GB virtual disks. With ESXi 5.x is not necessary more.

About the RAID configuration, I recommend you create a RAID set using all 6 discs and split the RAID unit to 2 logical drives. One for the ESXi Hypervisor (~ 10GB) and the second for the VMFS data store.

Don't forget to think about backup. If you want to use a commercial backup solution (Veeam Backup, Quest vRanger connection,...), you must obtain a licensed copy of ESXi/vSphere. I would recommend that you take a look at the vSpehere of essential packages.

  • ESXi Host IPs on different subnet?

I have two subnets. I've been putting VoIP phones and barley used printers on my second subnet (Subnet B). So far so good. I would also like to do with my ESXi hosts. Although the virtual machines it hosts on the subnet a. would be - it will be a problem?

Not at all, .in the extent that you use VLAN or have enough NIC in the host and configure the virtual network accordingly.

  • installation of vmware on asterisk tools

I'm kinda a noob when it comes to linux, so I need some help with this

How to install vmware on asterisk tools (sound using centOS (I guess what I read is basically free Red Hat))

When you select Install/Upgrade VMware ESXi tools should attempt to mount the VMware Tools ISO file in the comments. You will need to decompress the files of vmware tools and install them manually. http://KB.VMware.com/kb/1018414

Instead, I would set up the repository of vmware-tools and just use YUM to install and keep updated.

  • migration of vmware server 2 to esxi 4

I'm new to esxi.  I have converted a vm from vmware server 2 with client standalone converter to ESXI 4.0

The problem I have is that I turn on the new machine in ESXI and it does not start.

    VMware 2.0

    The virtual machine is running fine in VMware 2.0, the host is Ubuntu 8.04 Server, clients are;

Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition - Services Terminal Server

Windows Server 2003 Enterprise - MS Exchange 2003 domain controller,

Elastix - Asterisk, Openfire, SugarCRM and AvantFax

Ubuntu 8.04 Server - Drupal, SAMBA

Can someone help me solve this problem?  I don't know no were to start digging because I'm new to ESXI.

What VM you tried to convert?

Source VM has IDE drives? If so do you have attempted to assign also on ESXi?

  • Support Intel Xeon X 3430 in ESXi?

    Hello

Someone has already tried to install VMWare ESXi 4 on the platform Intel Xeon X34xx (specifically Intel Xeon X 3430)?

Dell has a very good price on the PowerEdge T310 server based platform Intel Xeon X34xx (X 3430, X 3440, X 3450, X 3460 and X 3470). X 3430 is above all a good deal. 8 MB of cache, it supports RAID, up to 32 GB of RAM, has a hot HD option and the diagnosis of LCD.

I need to get a server to run ESXi to my Cisco CCIE Lab, but I do not know if the Xeon X34xx platform is supported. If it is not supported, my next choice would be a Dell PowerEdge T410 with Intel Xeon E5504, 2.4 GHz, 4 MB cache, 800 MHz Max Mem. So, is supported in Intel Xeon E5504 and everyone ran ESXi on this platform? Is it powerful enough to run the servers of VoIP 4-5 (CUCM, UC, CUCCX, presence etc) at the same time?

    Thank you!

The processor can work very well and as Anton says that it's just a matter of time before hardware platforms the 34xx have been tested. The processor and the motherboard are probably less problematic. The other components are the problems. The hard disk controller and network cards cause most of the problems with installing and running ESXi. The 410T you mentioned must be able to meet your needs, but you should make sure that you have a raid controller supported if you want a RAID protection. The on-board controller doesn't support RAID that ESXi is concerned, although you should be able to install individually with SATA drives.

  • PCI possible Passtrough on ESXi?

I am looking to virtualize multiple machines, which is an Asterisk server that uses a FSX/FXO PCI card.  The virtual machine requires exclusive access to this map.  PCI passthrough is possible with ESXi?

No it's not possible - you can not move a PCI device via a virtual machine

  • WhatsApp appeal VoIP and watch

    Hello

I use the last worm WhatsApp. 2.16.10 on iPhone 6 s with iOS10 and watch with watchOS3.

And since the app update I can no longer get notifications about incoming call on the watch.

iPhone (through the integration of WhatsApp CallKit) rings, but nothing happens on the watch.

Is this a bug? Without which it is and who is to blame? Me? Apple? Developers of WhatsApp?

    Thank you

    Pavel

    same thing here.

And this is true for many (if not all) of VoIP apps with the implementation of callkit.

  • ios10 integration of voip does not not with whatsapp

Well, as seen on the video presentation of tge ios10, the integration of voip with whatsapp does not work on my iphone6s

When I get a call via whatsapp I should have the style ring regularly call appear on my lock screen, in the same way that I had received a regular phone call but instead, I get notification of whatsapp to old style.

    someone knows why?

As the Whatsapp application has not been updated since August 15, it has not yet set up for iOS 10.

Don't forget the tab updates in the App Store application or to implement the automatic application updates of settings > iTunes and App Store, which will allow you update the application once the update is released.
