I have lost my Windows XP disc in a move and can't reinstall the file to a disk, how to fix this?

When you use certain features sounds and Audio devices, you see a message like this:

Windows cannot display the control of volume on the taskbar because the Volume control program has not been installed. To install it use Add/Remove programs in Control Panel.

It seems that the c:\windows\system32\sndvol32.exe file is missing.

This may occur if your antivirus/antimalware application thinks the file is suspicious and quarantines (effectively delete) the file.  You can replace the missing file with a backup copy of the file that is in another folder on your system.

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

Assuming that Windows is installed on your C drive...

We know that XP keeps copies of critical system files in the following folder:

    c:\Windows\System32\dllcache

Using the Explorer, search for or navigate to the following folder:

    c:\Windows\System32\dllcache

Locate the sndvol32.exe file, right-click, choose copy (it copies the file to the Windows Clipboard).

If your Solution Explorer settings are not set to display file extensions, you will see only a file called 'sndvol32' which has an icon that looks like to the volume control slider (this is the file you need).

If the file is missing in the dllcache folder, look for a copy of the file in this folder:

    c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386

Browsing from a level in the following folder:

    c:\Windows\System32

Right-click on an empty area in the window of c:\windows\system32 and choose Paste to paste in the missing file where it belongs.

Answered in the affirmative if invited to replace the existing file.

Now try your features sounds and Audio devices.

Note that run sfc/scannow will not replace the missing file because it is not this that sfc/scannow does.

  • Horizontal size of the taskbar button is TOO SMALL! (possibly a programmer for this one)

    This is a revised repost.

I downloaded a program called Styler which changes the appearance to look like Windows 7 or Royal themes. It worked fine for the first days, until that day when my laptop could not start after hibernation, so I hard-rebooted, and the horizontal size of the taskbar button is too small. I have tried rebooting, changing the appearance back, locking/unlocking/resizing components of taskbar, AND I removed the Styler. I wish I could send a screenshot. Yes, I have these vertical bars displayed and all, and no, they do not change it. I use as a separate program called AlienGUIse Alienware, which has not had a problem in 2 years, I got it, and it didn't fix it either.

It's as if there are many buttons it congestion because the function "Group similar taskbar buttons" is still active. I posted the picture of the problem in my profile.

Try a system restore to before installing Styler. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • Gmail button (in internet explorer) keeps having moved to the right in my taskbar when I wasn't staying on the left (that's why I first open). How can I get the taskbar buttons to stop randomly to reorganize and stay in order?

Gmail button (in internet explorer) keeps having moved to the right in my taskbar when I want to keep it on the left (that's why I first open).  How can I get the taskbar buttons to stop randomly to reorganize and stay in order?  I'm talking about the buttons on list of my open applications and documents in Windows Vista.  The bar tasks are "locked", but the button of the window open with gmail in internet explore reappears suddenly in the good moments apparently random.

It is in the middle part of the taskbar (what I found online so far is on the start menu, the quick launch area or area/system tray of notification, the location of the taskbar in full, either about grouping taskbar - I disabled because I would like to separate).  Can anyone help?  I don't understand why this is happening (or why microsoft would never do).

Lock the taskbar that it prevents to be moved elsewhere on the office and maintains the different sections where they are - it does not block the tabs showing what is open where they were when they were opened.  There is no control for this function.  Maybe if you uncheck similar taskbar buttons group it will help, but I honestly don't know (and fear he won't make any difference - it may even make things worse).  This also happens to me and I was unable to find an answer.  I think that there are more than just random, but I can't telll you why he moves the legs periodically (sometimes it works fine all day and other days it happens almost immediately).  But still, there is no control for this function, so there is no way to tell him to keep a specific order or to lock an established order, once it has been created.  I suspect that it happens because the notification area icons appear and hide and new programs open and close and which changes the amount of space available and so he rearranges things so that they match and apparently does not always consider the original sequence in which the elements have been added.  Maybe if you remove the Quick Launch toolbar and then add again, the order will reset (but that I know not - probably not in the original sequence, which I doubt is logged nowhere - it did not work when I tried it).

Unfortunately, I don't have a solution to this problem (and I spend a little time looking for even before myselff posed the question) and do not believe that there is a.  It is also unfortunate that you can't move them so they can be put back in the right order if they change.  I don't think that there is nothing wrong with your system or that it is something that can be repaired or fixed - it's just the way it is and we just have to live with it.  I don't know any 3rd party software that controls the order of tabs open in the taskbar program (but you can check out Bing, Gooogle,www.tucows.comand www.download.com to see if I'm wrong on this - here n "t all when I looked trying to solve this problem for my own system).

I'm sorry it wasn't what you wanted to hear, but it's like that.  I don't know if it's different in Windows 7.

    Good luck!

  • Shortcuts to the taskbar, buttons, text, same .jpg files in the photo viewer shrank mysteriously horizontally... cannot be resolved (Windows 7)

    Hello

To describe the problem I want to join two screenshots.

The shortcuts at the bottom used to extend all the way to the right, to the system tray.  The taskbar buttons are tighter, and the text inside is smaller.  The date and time are narrower.  Here's how a screen shot I took in SWTOR looks:

It is much closer, and all of the text on the screen is smaller.

    Here is what I tried:

-Unfortunately I don't have a system restore point, so it wasn't an option.

-Manipulate anything in the taskbar properties did nothing.  I never changed anything.

-Change the screen resolution was not the answer.

-Change the size from 100% to 125% don't give me the results I was looking for.  I want this to 100% and never changed.

-Change the DPI setting has absolutely nothing.

-Go to the police in the Panel--> font--> font settings, then clicking on "Restore default settings", made the button go gray but did nothing.

-Go to personalization and selecting the theme of Windows 7 by default only changed color.  Work with advanced appearance settings was not helpful, because there is no option to select a font by default to size everything.  The option 'Office' here does not even allows you to change the font/size.

-Unchecking and then re - click on my own personal theme in personalization has not changed anything.

There is more, but this is basically what happened right out of the blue and for the life of me, I can't find a way to change it to the way it was.  It affects same SWTOR that when I log in, all the text in the chat window is smaller.  I'm just looking to Windows by default.  I found a post that told me to download "Set_Tahoma_Default_Font.reg" and then merge - a box of type BACK skipped upward, but nothing happened.  I restarted my PC after almost every change I made.

Sorry for the novel.  Any help appreciated.
