Vostro 410 does not illuminate

I have a computer Dell Vostro 410. I accidentally hit the power button on the surge protector the other day and he died, which means he will start.

This happened a few years back a couple times, but worked once I unplugged all USB keys and other sons and waited for about an hour. It went Tuesday and still nothing.

When I plug the power cord in, the green light in the back turns, but that's all. I opened it upward and the dust is really gross, so I'll buy a can of compressed air and blow today, but I don't see how that could be the cause that it doesn't turn.

I also found a few caps inside which are not connected to anything, but perhaps that they need not be?

I tried to take the two RAM sticks and then putting back in which I will again because it took me 30 minutes just to get them back in.

It is running XP.

Please help... :(

Thank you!

Bev, there is no error message or beeps that the computer doesn't turn on at all. There is no led power light - I think, it was blue - now, there is nothing. The only light is solid green light under the power cord and the yellow light inside the computer.

First try to connect the computer directly to an outlet without the surge protector, to see if that makes a difference.

No difference, then replace the power supply a "known" PSU to work again to see if that makes a difference, as an it isn't required to test the motherboard etc. See page 32 of the maintenance manual.

More generic standard ATX power supplies, with a 24-pin or 20 + power connector 4 - pin main motherboard, with or without the on/off switch, would be compatible with the Vostro 410.

You should be able to buy a compatible power supply either a local computer or online store.

Note: For the Vostro 410 mini-tower with six SATA power connectors power is required.

Bev.

    Hello swholmes,

I have a small question for you: did you tell you - assemble the laptop by chance?

I had this same problem and I say-assembled for the cleaning of the exhaust fan (the laptop was overheating)

The problem was that I had removed the CPU, and when I put back it, I forgot to turn the screw that holds the processor in the "locked" position When I did this thing, the problem was solved!

I hope that helps you as it solved my problem!

  • Vostro 430 does not illuminate

    Hello

I've got questions for a few months, requiring several pushes the button to start.  I resolved to never put it off, thinking it was a dodgy button, for several months now.  However, yesterday we had a power cut and now I can't the PC to power everything.  Power is in the course of the PSU indicated by the green light at the back.  I followed some of the steps on this forum for troubleshooting... Disconnected and reconnected connectors etc.  I checked the button itself.  Sometimes when you press the power button I had a glimmer of life - blue light and whir cooling fans, but only briefly, then nothing again.

Then I followed the steps of TS - disconnect the main supply to the connector on the motherboard and tried to jump over the Green wire to one of the black wires - I get power on the HDD and the DVD player that spin to the top, but nothing else... on each black wire the same result.  Any help or advice or next steps?

    Thank you.

I guess the likely culprits here are:
    1 switch
    2 POWER SUPPLY
    3 - mobo

Is most likely 1 and less 3.

A couple of months, I tried to disassemble the "façade plastic" which contains the diag lights up and the power button on an other Vostro and abandoned after 30 to 60 minutes. I should have had like 9 hands and a bunch of tools made of plastic to get this thing apart.

I guess you could buy the Panel part/small / whatever has the power button and plug to the motherboard and just leave the inside of the case (ha ha ha ha). Whenever you wanted to start the machine, you must open the box... or just leave the file open / side.

The next suspect is the power supply. You have another machine with a similar diet that you can insert in the 430? You didn't say if your food is a totally custom power supply, Dell (in general, the size may be customized with Dell) or more like a generic power supply size. When I find the pictures with the words [psu vostro 430] the results look fairly typical. You have a machine that has a ' normal/typical' block of power SUPPLY Antec/Corsair/etc.? These are bets better than an IBM/HP/etc. POWER SUPPLY. I recently tried a beefy server IBM ATX PSU turn in "Dell PC #1" and got nothing. I put the same power supply in a really very similar 'Dell PC #2', and it worked perfectly. A replacement part from Dell to address right would most likely work for you. A ' normal/typical' PSU by Antec, Corsair, etc. would also be a good bet... assuming your Vostro 430 takes a PSU of size "normal/typical.

Partly you could diagnose your existing power supply by buying a $10 POWER supply Tester, but you will only get so far. I recently bought one of those at Microcenter. It will tell you if the power supply is the production of the correct voltage, but not just any appreciable support being requested by the PSU. If you purchase the power supply Tester and the PSU has failed the test, you know you need a new power supply. But if it passes the test, you may still have a bad diet that initially provides the correct voltage, but fails when he tries to provide any support.

There are full load PSU testers, but they are rather more expensive.

I noticed in the thread on this forum called "Is it easy/possible to upgrade from feeding on the Vostro 430?" answering machine said "the Vostro 430 will use a standard ATX 12V power supply. Looks like it worked well here because only the initial poster was renovated to a comfortable level, size, aftermarket PSU.

I'm not sure that this food is appropriate for you, but the size standard PSU Antec VP450 (aka VP-450) in the 'Brand' line Antec has excellent bang for the buck and is 80% effective. If you look on Amazon or Newegg buyers there are very satisfied. I bought one a couple of years back. Of course for more in $$$ you can absolutely get a PSU nicer (more powerful)... If you need that.

  • Vostro 410 does not start

Try the following, if you are comfortable working around computers:

Note: The only 100% POWER supply test method, is to install a known working power.

Unplug the power cord, hold the power button in for about 15-20 seconds, open the case, disconnect the power connector 24-pin motherboard and jumping the Green wire to one of the black wires, plug in the power cord and the power of the system, if food and case fans and disk hard drive performance then the power supply should be good.

Note: Do not remove the wires from the plug, use a small piece of wire or a paper clip as a rider.

Excerpt from power supply, again, unplug the power cord, hold power in a few seconds to discharge residual power, reconnect the connector 24 pin to the motherboard.

Remove all the computer PCI cards, remove the video card [as appropriate], disconnect all devices, except the monitor, mouse and keyboard and unplug cable power & data of all readers.

Reconnect the power cord and power the system on, see if you get a different indication of the LED on the power button / stop, or 'beeps '.

No difference, remove the system memory and try again.

Still shows no signs of life while looking at a motherboard replacement & maybe a processor.

Note: The processor rarely fails and the only method I know to check a processor, is to install a compatible working PC, or use a known job processing.

I have an inspiron 660 s which does not illuminate.  The green power light is on in the back.  Nothing happens when I hit the power button.  No lights or the beeps.  The machine is about a year and a half old.  Tried to unplug and power drain.  Still nothing.  Help please.  Thank you.

Not this indication, the power supply has no questions.

As the power button does not lite and there no beeps, then I would suggest replacing the power by a "Known" work unit, as it is required to test the system and motherboard.

It would seem that power Inspiron 660 s is an owner of Dell unit, because of its shape and size.

You will need to call Dell spare parts to the 1-877-717-3355 and "Service Tag" of the system increased from hand.

Otherwise, you could buy a compatible power 660 s from here:

Try to restore the firmware with iTunes. If this does not help, make an appointment with a genius at the Apple Store.

    Hello

On this virtual path, it is not possible to provide an accurate diagnosis. All you can do is to unplug the power plug, remove the battery and leave it for a while. Then press the power button and hold it for 15 or 20 seconds.
After doing this connect the power running and try to start again.

What happens when you do this?
