• Local Datastore become inactive after a long time

  I'm under ESXI 4.1 (260247), on a DELL R410, with a DELL SATA SAS6/IR controller, with 2 x 500 GB SATA drives.

  Everything worked very well, but since a week after awhile, my data store become inactive.

  I can always connect to vsphere, but the data store is indicated as being inactive. VM seems to be runing again (nobody is marked as inactive), but I can't ping anyone, nor to achieve using the Console or SSH.

  The only solution I found is to reboot the host (which takes 30-40 minutes, he attempts to save the State of the virtual machine, but appear to it cannot, as the data store is turned off.). In any case, after 30-40 minutes, reboot the server and everything works well.

  The data store become inactive, always during the night. During the night, I have a job that back up my mail server. Perhaps it's because of a strong e/s disks, then the data store to become inactive, even if it seems odd, because I had this job running for months without any problem.

  I have nothing in the newspapers, so a bit hard to debug.

  I tried a new analysis of Scan VMFS Modules, update the data store, the controller, but nothing works hope to restart the host.

  If someone has an idea, it would be greatly appreciated, because I can't sleep too in recent weeks, because I need to check if my server is still going every night...

  I think that your SATA driver is the ahci module.  The problem you see would also be good disk hardware or faulty controller.  The test equipment is a good idea - it is more likely a hardware problem if it worked so long on 4.0 without problem.

  You can see what the parameters are configurable ahci has by running:

  esxcfg-module i - ahci

  If there is a stated maximum hardware queue depth parameter, which is the default, and you can try to change with:

  esxcfg-module - s = ahci

  Reboot and confirm the new setting with:

  esxcfg-module g - ahci

  Select this option.

• Local concept of method hotadd VM Backup using VCB v1.5u1 and ESXi 4 datastre

  I would like to get clarification using ESXi VCB v1.5 Update 1

  Backup VM with method -hotadd in vSphere 4 (all servers are ESXi 4)

  The objectives is to make the backup of virtual machine faster since most of the

  VM is in MD3000i_SAN VMFS and between the ESXi host is a direct connection

  both ESXi1 and ESXi2

  The setting is as follows:

  1. Windows Server 2003 x 64 Standard VM +.
     VCB framework deployed on the ESXi1 and the local Datastore SATA ESXi2, namely VCBProxy01and VCBProxy02 all had only 40 GB HD size

  2. VM empty created on the two ESXi1
     and ESXi2: VCBProxy01(VCB-HELPER) and VCBProxy02(VCB-HELPER).
     All this without hard drive

  You can not pass several VM arguments in a single command. It must be only 1 VM. In your case, by looking at the settings, I guess that you pass the name of the virtual machine and no ip address. If you give - an ipaddr to be ip address of the target VM to back up. Else to move the VM name, it must be - a name: vm - name.

  Still, you can't spend several VM in a single order VCBMounter names. To run the backup for several virtual machines you should run several instances of the command line with the corresponding target VMs name / ip address. I hope this helps.

  Example: / vmfs/volumes/3dfd1a21-63969d0d-8d9b-004328272635 /.

  I understand your question completely, you can convert logical physical standby standby either locally or remotely. By running the package it will not impact any performance on the primary production database. By running the package SQL apply will be activated.

  MI problema es el siguiente:

  Tengo a datastore el cual esta por formed unico 3 discos duros 73 GB formando UN raid 5 en total tiene una capacidad of: 134Gb, en su momento increment the added capacity a 146 GB disco, asi as the capacidad del datastore Centralni hasta reach a 270 GB. Este ultimo disco lo anadi para unas the tests perform y ahora desearia quitarlo datastore volviera el y a tener el tamano dinna cuando tenia los 3 hdd in raid 5.

  MI problema surge cuando quito directly del servidor el disco duro y al arrancar el servidor me pone el siguiente aviso: ALERT: LVM: 2079: one or more devices not found (file system [Datastore, esx2, 4d19b280-b02d0894-2cee-00188b4d059c]). No to como poder eliminate esa alerted mi datastore vuelva a tener el tamano y k is now con los 3 don't disco duro in raid 5 should have 134 GB y none're ups are what the capicdad than me of're indica 270 GB.

  Para hacer lo as comment, tienes el modo local datastore como ago to creo en instalacion have as seguir el mismo procedure than ampliar el tamano of blocks led local storage. In said procedure explican como hacer el backup y Restauración los ficheros as comment, puedes seguir el KB1013210 (antes hacer any entero leelo cosa).

• Extension of a data store

  I'm trying to expand my existing data store size. I have a HP Proliant DL370 G6 with a Smart Array P410i. I've added 4 additional disks and expanded the chart via HP Array Configuration Utility, so all readers are added at home and in vSphere 4.1 search it shows as having the ability 'new' to 1.9.

  The problem is, when I go in vSphere under Configuration, storage, it shows "total capacity" 833 GB (original capacity when it was created). When I look under the box "Measuring device", it shows the ability of 'new' of 1.91 TB.  (see attached photo)

  If I click on the button 'Increase' it starts the Wizard "Measurement device", but I get nothing that appears in my list and I can't hit next to continue the wizard. I assumed it would be where I can specify the new piece of storage, I added to enlarge the data store but nothing shows, so I'm at a loss. Any thoughts?

  increase the VMFS partition on the installation disc is not possible using the GUI. For a description, take a look at http://deinoscloud.wordpress.com/2010/05/03/how-to-increase-the-size-of-a-local-datastore-on-an-esxi4/

  Warning: Make sure you only select the VMFS partition during this operation. In the example it is partition 2, but it could be the 3 with your installation partition!

  Although it should work without problem, I highly recommend you backup the existing VM before doing this.
