vSphere associated HA

Hi team,

I am currently using 2 ESX. each ESX has 5 VM if I activate HA a ESX's declining for all virtual machines are moved to another ESX without interruption of service? is this correct.

Once the virtual machine is moved to another ESX, but another ESX hardware resource is not available. Until that time how to handle this. Pls I know anyone.

-vicky.

Assume that you have configured a HA cluster with several ESXi hosts, who can all access even on shared storage which are the files of the virtual machine.

In the event of a host failure, HA it will detect and - depending on the configuration of HA - register the virtual machine on a host that has sufficient free resources and light. Please don't forget to check out the links provided above depping .

I want to improve my environment to vSphere 5.5 to 6.

I have several ESXi servers and 1 vCenter server. Some servers ESXi serving direct environment and a test environment.

I want to upgrade, step by step so, install the new server vSephere and upgrade test environment 6.0 ESXi servers. and then run a few days test environment.

Upgrade needs, I need to convert the license keys to 6.0.

Can I run then simultaneously the two environemts two or three days? (living environment using license keys 5.5 and 6.0 keys environment converted from 5.5 test keys)?

Some key ESXi are used in several ESXi is used according to CPU sockets associated with these keys.

Believe me, it does not, it may seem, but you pile up errors for later.   It would be a better option to generate a vCenter 6 in eval mode and go that route.

"Can I get confirmation that the ISO should have all necessary drivers for the VRTX system, using blades M520?

    EricNylen,

You can, ISO custom does not contain the necessary drivers, but the version you download is that permitting the M1000e, not that of the VRTX M520 (as "PowerEdge M520 (for EP VRTX)" line in the compatible systems would be listed "). The version you need is right here though. In addition, you can find a walk detailed on the configuration of the storage shared in the VRTX here.

  • vSphere 6.0 license Standard downgrade then upgrade

    Hi guys,.

Just a quick I'm not quite clear on if possible.

Basically, I have two hosts of ESXi, an old box of 5.5 running on vSphere essentials license and a new box of 6.0 running with the standard license for vSphere.  The new server is not yet in production, and is associated with a San (current storage on the 5.5 server is local)

We have a 4 CPU license for vSphere 6.0 standard, so what I was hoping to do was downgrade 2 CPU of this license to 5.5 and apply it on the 5.5 server, this will enable vMotion and let me live migrate servers of local storage for the new San and across to the new host.  I then tried to shut down the old Server 5.5, rebuild fresh with ESXi 6.0 and then upgrade the number of processors 2 license 6.0 who have been downgraded, back to 6.0.

Is it possible to do so without incurring a cost?  I see that a downgrade is possible for free, but I'm not 100% clear on the component to upgrade.  Basically, I wanted to do it this way to avoid blackouts, but if it comes to it, then I can plan a failure, just try to scope out right now.

    Thank you.

I was wrong. I just checked and you can select 'Upgrade quantity'. I learned something new today.

From the point of view upgrade/downgrade you can make it back as long as you have a valid support contract.

  • Migration of virtual machines to vSphere 4.1 to vSphere 6.0

As the title eludes to, we are standing up a new physics 6.0 Server vCenter Server and need to migrate virtual machines of 4.1 6.0 guest hosts.  I'd love to take the time to create a script that does the following; However, before heading down this path, I wanted to do a ping of the group to see if someone has done something like this before or have pointers to scripts that perform some of these actions already.  Some background and concept:

    • Running 4.1.
    • A new physical Center of vCenter 6.0 will be deployed side-by-side with 4.1.
    • The existing configuration of vSphere HA allows for 1-2 guests down without impact to the virtual machines.
    • The two environment and will be Cisco N1KV, SAN access shared for the same data storages.
    • A new vCenter will be lifted.
    • A single host is identified and VMs evacuated to the remaining hosts.
    • This host will be in maintenance mode, removed from the cluster and close.
    • A clean install of ESXi 6 will be done and set up spec.
    • N1KV will be deployed.

To digress on the details at the moment... Now markets PowerCLI desired.  This idea is ad hoc and on the fly, so as I write this.

    • identify all the virtual machines associated with a specific data store - will need to work with the local client to schedule downtime for virtual machines
    • Stop the virtual machine
    • Remove the VM of the vCenter 4.1 inventory
    • to connect to vCenter 6.0
    • Add the virtual machine to the vCenter 6.0 inventory (and once we have passed the first host in the new cluster, automatically place the virtual machine by using the DRS)
    • Reconfigure the vmnic with the new Cisco 1000V dvs (will be the same name on both sides, but has a different ID)
    • pull in the keys and the values to a CSV and advancedsetting set to harden
    • Turn on the virtual machine
    • Perhaps a test of ping for the NETWORK card to check connectivity

The order in which the steps are performed can be switched around, as long as the desired end result is the same: migration effectively virtual machines between two disparate solutions with single medium sharing as a data store.  In which I realize will always be VMFS3.  New data stores VMFS-5 is another task for another time.

Thank you for your time, suggestions, links, etc...

  • vSphere Web Client, any who do anything like that?

I create some specific workflows to be presented for use in the vSphere 6 Web Client. In this workflow, I try to understand how to get the user currently logged in vCenter to fill a requested_by input variable.  the reason for this is all this workflow opens either Incident, the amendment or demand in the CMDB and use this value in the query of the CMDB.  Anyone pulling this info in this way?  FYI, I use an account shared for the vSphere vRO plugin

    Thank you

    Steve

Steve, by 'user currently connected in vCenter' actually means you the user logged in vSphere Web Client, right?

When you start a workflow from vRO in vSphere Web Client, he'll call vRO REST API who authenticate with a SAML token that is taken in the name of the current user in vSphere Web Client. VRO side, inside the script code of your workflow, you can use Server.getCurrentLdapUser () script method to retrieve the user associated with the workflow runtime. It returns an object of type LdapUser; for which properties are provided by this object, see vRO API Explorer.

  • Updated NIC now I can't connect to vSphere

I have a system with ESXi installed 5.x, I made changes to NICs because for some reason they were only running in half duplex mode for some reason any. The card has been set to Auto and I forced it 100 Full and then I lost the connection to vSphere. I now can not connect to vSphere because it was networking... What can I do now? Im not too experienced with ESXi so Im at a loss.

    TIA

    Hi AmDD,

Great that you have access KVM! You can do the following to get management on your ESXi rogue server:

    1. Press and then logon with 'Root' and password
    2. Select Troubleshooting Options in the customization of the system screen
    3. Press to enable the ESXi environment so that it displays ESXi Shell is selected in the right pane
    4. Press to the local shell
    5. 'Root' login and password

At this point, you should have a shell with ~ # on the screen and a cursor blinking on ready for the entry. If this is the case then continue

    1. Run network vswitch standard list esxcli (assumes that you use a standard vSwitch and not a distributed vSwitch)
    2. Note uplink associated with this vSwitch (read the physical network adapters)
    3. Run network nic set-n vmnic5 - esxcli has
    4. Repeat for all the vmnic related delinquency vSwitch

Once you have confirmed you have taken over the management of the perpetrator, then you can store as follows:

    1. Press to return to the DCUI
    2. Follow steps 1-3 in the first section, but make sure that esxi Shell is disabled
    3. Press can again to disconnect from the DCUI
    4. Grab a cold beverage of your choice and sit back to relax

Note: This is not strictly necessary but does not remove the fingerprints

Let us know if it works!

  • VSAN - Performance/license associated mystery

    Howdy,

I received a few questions about VSAN and SSD. I hope some of you can help me there / or has already answered this question.

In my setup, I had 4 servers configured in a database server cluster. Each server has 2 SAS SSD where an SSD is used as cache flash and another hard drive SSD are used to capacity. ESXI is installed on a separate DOM. SATA

    1. 1. when I first set up these servers using PuTTY and ssh shows two SSDS like all flash SSD in vSphere client web. More about they are configured as "IsSSD = 1" and "IsCapacityFlash = 0".

    bilde1.jpg

    bilde2.jpg

This shows both according to the type of flash in vsphere client to web.

    bilde3.jpg

When I set up SSD now using the web client vSphere or ssh an SSD displayed flash and another show as a HARD drive. There should be no specific difference in either of these approaches to what I did before. However, I can't two SSDS to redisplay as 'Flash' under player type.

So my question here is basically if there is a significant difference of using either of these approaches to the marking of the SSD.

One thing I think is, for example, performance; If I tag an SSD as a regular HDD using vSphere client of web performance will be reduced to a hybrid solution on this specific server? Or will there be no associated performance the difference? It shows essentially just like a HARD drive, but the performance is still similar to SSD & All-flash solution. It is a conclusion that I opted for some time, but now I'm kind of unsure.

When will "peripheral storage" show two SSD Flash under "Type of drive. This is one of the reasons why I ignored if they show that the HARD drive under vSandatastore-> manage-> settings-> device backup like the photo above.

    bilde4.jpg

Note! After the server in maintenance mode Setup, restart and exit maintenance mode see the two SSDS as 'Flash' again.

However: The additional license all-flash is required to use the VSAN and necessary to give all-flash performance? Or it could fall and only ordinary VSAN license is required to give all-flash performance?

    Best regards

A little confused new members first post

    (a) its performance hybrid not entirely, because the device is still faster than a normal HARD drive. But you also have not found full Flash performance. So, something between the two.

    (b) SSH + CLI or RVC, Yes. You cannot do it from the user interface in the initial support of the All-Flash (at the time of writing these, July 2015).

  • Get Machine plans associated with objects of a Service catalog

In our vCAC, we have a service with the catalog items that vSphere available machines virtual via cloning model. In a vCO script, is there a way to get objects of schema associated with each point objects catalog in our service? If so, can you provide the code to show how it's done? We have vCAC 6.1 and vCO 5.5.2.Thanks!

OK, I finally found the answer courtesy of Automation vRA (vCAC) using vRO - Split Brain :

«Each element of the catalog has an attribute of providerBinding.» This package contains the bindingId value. This link ID is the ID of the master plan (virtualMachineTemplateID) of the part of IaaS. That's how vRA figures on what course of action to deploy when you request a catalogue point. »

So, given an vCACCAFECatalogItem object, I can get the ID of associated like this blueprint:

    var blueprintId = catalogItem.getProviderBinding () .getBindingId ();

  • Can I use vSphere Replicaiton to clone Production to the doctor?

    VMGods Hey!

I'm trying to gain time to build my DR site by cloning my Production VMs on our DR site continuously, rather than on each computer virtual ground accumulate.  In total, we are talking about 80-90 mV, a mixture of Linux and Windows.  Us are currently approved for Enterprise + and have independent vcenter on our Production and DR sites, the two 5.5 running (vCenter and ESXi).  The question is, if I use vSphere replication to replicate my Prod VMs to the doctor, I can then break all ties between the VM in seed Production and use the virtual machine cloned in DR regardless?  As a follow-up question, is there a way I can run sysprep after replication automatically on the replica of VM?

    Thank you!

    Hi Jared,

Yes, you can use VR to create copies of the original VMs in an another server vCenter inventory.

Once the initial full synchronization is complete, any changes to the original VMs will be replicated according to the parameters of RPO.

Once you decide to stop replication, you can first call "Recovery Wizard" and establish the files replicated as VMs in vCenter inventory target. Power on stage is optional in the "Recovery Wizard". Please make sure that you use the last available-sync point - this will not affect the original VMs.

After that the virtual machines 'recovered' are registered in vCenter target inventory, rehearsals will turn into "Recovered" status Then you can stop safely replication from the user interface and from that moment, there is nothing THAT VR associated virtual machines or in the user interface.

Today, VR disconnects explicitly recovered virtual computers network cards.

There is no integration of sysprep. You may build your own customization using Powershell or similar.

MRS offers some customization options, but requires a separate license.

    Kind regards

    Martin

  • Is there a way to get the list of hosts and its groups of belonging to the vCenter folder level in 5.5 web vsphere client plugin development?

    Hello

I need to get the list of all hosts and its groups of belonging to the vcenter folder level.

    1. I created a view giving the extension point: vsphere.core.folder.monitorViews.

    2. After this step, I wrote the constraint as in my class of mediator,

    var ListConstraint:Constraint =

    QuerySpecUtil.createConstraintForRelationship ( _contextObject, 'childEntity');

I was expecting a list of all child entities such as hosts, dc, cluster... But I have only the immediate child object which is only the Datacenter as my result.

Is it possible to get all hosts and vCenter folder level Clusters because I need the entire list to vCenter (highest level).

    Other info:

Object file has only two properties:

1 childEntity - list of entities

2 childType in-kind folder ('Virtual Machine', 'Data center'...)

Is it possible to write a constraint specifying which list of childEntities I need using childType in.

Example: Make Me childEntities that has a 'Host' and 'Cluster' childType but childType in doesn't have these two types.

In addition, at this level, I could see the 'Associated objects' tab which has all the information I need, such as Clusters and Cluster tab hosts and host tab respectively.

So, I think its possible to get this list to vCenter folder level.

I have attached a screenshot representing the need. Kindly ignore the Conventions of naming in there since I edited the example comes with the sdk program.

    Query:

    1. How can I get the host and Cluster (table of relationship) list to vCenter folder level or even at the level of the vise.global.view?

    2. once I get this list, is it possible for me to manipulate that list and send the new list to IU?

    3. is there another way to do the same thing without the help of model classes and mediator?

Pointers to this will be very useful.

It is not possible to obtain all hosts a folder specific vCenter from a single query Data Manager.  You need to get the list of centers of data first and then get a list of data center hosts.

It is best to make these repeated requests to the java level and return only the list that you want to the user interface.

You can get all the objects in the host of the system with a simple query using a constraint with targetType = 'HostSystem', but you will need to eliminate those from other vCenter servers.  See how this chassis example queries all hosts the Java later in the getHosts() method: samples/chassis-app/chassisRackVSphere-service/src/main/java/com/vmware/samples/chassisRackVSphere/ChassisRackVSphereDataAdapter.java

Another option is to use the vSphere Web Services SDK to browse vCenter. See the vSphere management forum for help on these APIs.  See this plugin of the sample using this SDK

  • SRM vSphere possible replication or SAN?

    Hello

Just curious to know if you can configure the replication SAN with the SRA to who is matched (1 site, Site 1DR) and then also configure Replicator Vmware for SAN systems who don't not have built in replication.

Is it possible to install?  Let me know?

VMware and vSphere replication port replicator?

Use vSphere replication, you must deploy the unit of replication vSphere on each site, and you can use the same server of MRS. along the coast with SRA.

Combined based on the Bay and vSphere replication of the limits of Protection with SRM

With MRS, you can run groups of protection based on the Bay alongside vSphere protection groups on the same SRM Server replication. However, the total number of protection groups cannot exceed 250. For example, you cannot create 150 groups of protection based on the Bay and then create 250 vSphere replication protection associations, because this creates 400 total protection groups. If you have 150 groups of protection based on the Bay, you can create an additional 100 vSphere protection of the replication groups, for a total of 250 groups of protection.
