vSphere ESXi 5.5 registration

Hello

I downloaded and installed ESXi 5.5 vSphere and he informs me that I have 60 days to sign up... then I, of course, tried to do. I've looked everywhere, found instructions that don't make sense and what seems to be a place to register (VMWare: product registration) and I can't find any way to do it.

If I put in the license key only I can find associated with my product, I get the following error message:

Recording without success

The following keys cannot be registered.

XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX The License key is already registered.

I'm frankly puzzled.

Downloaded VMWare wrong, if I have access to version information (help about VMware vSphere) I see that it is:

  • vSphere Client version 5.5.0 build 1281650 and...
  • VMware ESXi Version 5.5.0 build 1331820

Far as I can tell it means I haven't downloaded that badly.

But how can I register? Preferably a list of instructions.

James

To access the license, connect to the ESXi host using the vSphere Client, and then select the host in the inventory, click the Configuration tab and select functions under license. You will find a link Edit... that opens the license.

Yes, the laboratory works vCenter Server as well as a few hosts ESXi and virtual machines on VMware Workstation (which you can also download a 30 days trial version). I do it also on a host of Win7 with an I7-2600 and 16 GB of memory. Works very well.

  • How can I know raid 0 SSD when I install Vsphere ESXi 6?

    Hello

I would say for me to understand in advance because I can't speak English well.

Today, I tried to install ESXi vsphere 6 on ssd drive that put in raid0. RAID0 consisted of two 500 GB drives.

When I install Windows Server R2 2012 to check the status of the raid 0, I can see good about 1 TB drive and when I try to install vsphere 6 ESXi, I see two 500 GB drives. It didn't consist of raid 0

Why can't vsphere ESXi 6 recognize raid 0 disk?

Frankly, defining VMware products is the first time today. Please explain and tell me to resolve method.

This questions is more likely caused by an unsupported software RAID controller. VMware supports only hardware RAID controllers that have the physical disks and logical volumes for operating systems. Some hardware manufacturers provide additional drivers for their own material as well.

  • vSphere ESXi 5.5: creating data warehouses

I installed vSphere ESXi 5.5 on a system of self-build and downloaded VIClient her... everything connects very well.

The system itself is an Intel Core i5 with 8 GB of ram and an Office CT pro Intel network card. Records are:

    • IBM 32 GB SSD (the ESXi OS is installed on this and can be seen fine... of course I guess).
    • a SATA III 1.5 TB drive
    • a disc of 2 TB SATA III

The system can see the other readers, but when I try to create data stores that I can use, I get the error:

Call 'HostStorageSystem.ComputeDiskPartitionInfo' to object 'storage system' on ESXi 'xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx' failed.

Anyone has any idea why this would be and if I can do something? The only things I can think of existing partitions (it certainly is on the smaller disk as it was originally a server system 2008) or some kind of requirement for specific formatting, first.

    James

This could be a problem with the current data on the disk. I suggest clean you the partition info using the DD explained to the KB VMware: Troubleshooting in the add storage Wizard error: cannot read this disk partition information to see if that solves the problem.

  • Connect two VSphere ESXi 5.0 with crossover cable

Hi all! A newbie in the ESXi 5.0

I configured both servers of VSphere ESXi 5.0 with two network adapters on each server, the first NETWORK card acts as a virtual Internet switch, and the other NETWORK adapter serves only the link of communication (Heartbeat) between two VSphere Esxi 5.0 using crossover cable.

My question is, how can I create such change in VSphere in a problem of communication between these 2 servers with a crossover cable? I would like to connect my (CentOS 6) VMs on each server via this network adapter with cable modem Simulator for the purposes of the communication of pulsation. I know how to create a normal vSwitch who can communicate with the Internet, but I have no idea how to create a switch for the NICs connected with a crossover cable.

Please drop me a line if you know how.

P.S. The idea to use the crossover cable rather than use the simple ethernet cable is the cable eliminates the overhead and to avoid the lack of packages due to the processing time of the switch.

I know not how to create one with ordinary vSwitch to establish a connection with the Internet, but not this vSwitch with crossover cable.

There is no difference. Build a vSwitch as your normally would, including the NETWORK card that is connected via a crossover as your uplink cable.

  • Latest version VMWare VSphere ESXi announcement

Hello, please forgive my lack of knowledge that I'm not an expert VMWare. I am looking for information on the announced Server latest OS for VMWare VSphere ESXi. I realize that the last version is VMWare VSphere ESXi version 5, but there was no announcement (not necessarily published) of the future releases past version 5. If so, I would be grateful for any information.

    Thank you

    Kind regards

    Gil Lee

Not yet. vSphere 5.1 is the latest version, but he had published patches (a and b).

VMware will announce information when they decide it's time for that so there nothing known yet outside on version 6 or whatever they'll call it.

  • VSphere ESXi hypervisor free, re-usable clon server tests?

    Hello

I tested VMWare vSphere, ESXi Hypervisor, the free program.

I try to get tips motherboard I should buy to test the vSphere Hypervisor?

I tested some form of Intel and Asus motherboard and Boot CD saysit cannot detect the network card. But in a Dell 2950 PowerEdge, it works very well.

Another thing is that I read that in a motheboard with only SATA2 ports, the data store is detected as 'rare' and not 'local', so my final question is if vSphere is recommended only from servers brand or certification or if this could work in a re-usable/clon/DYI Server?

    Thank you very much

    Oliver

Although the ESXi Hypervisor can run on office equipment - often only when equipped with an additional supported NIC - it's officially supported only on the server hardware that can be found in the VMware Compatibility Guide

  • Using the hard drive on HP Proliant after installing VSPhere ESXi 5

I recently installed VSphere ESXi 5 on a HP Proliant server. I've migrated several virtual machines successfully on, with access via client vsphere. I'm trying to find out whether the server is in Raid 5. I called HP and they said that the only way to know is to insert the smart startup disk. I inserted, but I don't know how to access the disk. I know this is probably very simple, but I'm lost. Thanks for your help.

It depends on if you a raid controller enough disks and supported your server to take a RAID5 configuration.

Download the HP smart start ISO, ILO mount or burn a CD to boot off the coast so that you can launch the utility of configuration of matrices (ACU). It's really something that should have been done before the ESXi installation.

    See the example below;

  • Details on Vsphere/ESXi install on laptop

    Hello

I looked on forums and communities, and do not understand the correct way to do something.

I want, at the moment, use a laptop to get training on Vsphere/ESXi Server, VCenter while I save for laboratory test.

I would really like steps 1,2,3, etc. of a person if possible.

I currently have a Lenovo T400s with Vista 64 bit OS.

I'm confused about what order, I do all this.

I prefer everything run from USB Thumb Drives or all virtual machines. I don't want to use my physical hard drive on the laptop and change or delete partitions, etc...

Sorry for the confusion on my part but I promise to answer other stupid noobs questions when I'm father along!

    / Wayne

    Hello Wayne,

Yes, you can configure the lab on your laptop, provided that you have a sufficient amount of RAM available on your laptop to support operations

It is about 2 to 4 GB for a single esxi host vm.

about 3-4 GB for vCenter vm.

some for virtualization of storage like openfiler, starwind etc if you want to create a cluster.

and around 2 GB of RAM to support your local vista OS on the laptop.

However, if you do not want to use vCenter, you can install a single esxi and conncet with vsphere client host directly. But then you will not be able to test the features Island HA, DRS etc which depends on vCenter.

You can install and use vmware workstation or any other software preferred to virtualize the environment on your laptop

You can find more information on the blog of Scott Vessey

  • New here - problem with the network on vSphere, ESXi

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, please direct me properly if it is not.

I use an eval of vSphere ESXi on a HP workstation. I built 2 Windows 2 k 8 VM 32 bits on the first data store. They can ping and DNS seems to be resolved, but they cannot access Internet/WWW.

I accepted the default when installing ESXi and vSphere, so the configuration of the network is all that is by default (using the switch vNetwork, I think?)

The 2 servers are on a different area of our production area. For this case, we'll call it consigment and Lab.com. "PDC" server is the domain controller, 'Exch8' is the exchange server in the lab. Exch8 has its pointed DNS, PDC and PDC has its DNS indicated on our DNS server in the environment of consigment. They are all on the same subnet 172.1.1.x

I can ping PDC and Exch8 of my workstation (which is in consigment) by IP, but not name (pdc or pdc.lab.com, or work).

Can someone at - it facilitate troubleshooting?

    Thank you

OK finally try this out... It must be something to deal with the configuraiton of windows rather than dealing with VMware.I belive

    1. on the server you can navigate on the internet - see the proxy setting.

See how proxy setting - open internet explore - switch to the option internet tool - connection tab click lan setting and get the configuraiton of proxy and put it in the PDC. Lab.com server and see if it works...

    Hello

In an earlier version of VMware ESXi software iSCSI adapter was included in the list of the storage card, but is not in the case of VMware ESXi 5.0. In ESXi 5.0 iSCSI adapters are not listed by default and must be activated first before we go away from configuration.

  • Change the block size? vSphere ESXi 4.1.0.

    Hello world

I wanted to create a third virtual machine, but the existing computer hard drive was large (GB 266), because I had created a VMFS with 1 M block :-(

I searched a lot of log and manuals, but I couldn t find an answer, how to change the block size of the data to 2 M store.

    I m using vSphere ESXi 4.1.0.

Then I tried to export the VM´s to set up the new host of VM with another block. But I m not able to find a filebrowser in the vSphere Client.

How to export or save a virtual machine or a snapshot.

In the FAQ, it is described to "Open the filebrowser", but where it is hidden?

Thank you very much for your help.

  • vSphere ESXi 4.0 Build 171294 how can I access my USB hard drive?

Is it possible to mount the USB hard drive with VM server with vSphere, ESXi 4.0? Thank you.

Your server must support Intel VT - d (IO done and this is not the same as VT (Virtualization Technology) x).   The only option would be USB over IP.

  • VSphere/ESXi can run on different processor architecture?

We want to implement VMware infrastructure and research in the vSphere purchase Ess. 'More'. We are not implement shared storage. We will have 3 ESXi host total.

I want to save money as much as possible. I have a HP Proliant DL380p Gen8 and a DL385 G7 servers. By HP, both are compatible with ESXi 6.0. I would use these two servers and have to buy a server.

The DL380p is the DL385 AMD and Intel. If this configuration can work or this server must be Intel?

    Thank you

    Alex

We absolutely want to use vMotion. Can be used without storage shared, correct?

Yes, it is possible since the 5.1, but there are a few things to keep in mind. It's basically a combination of storage vMotion, transferring the VM disks from one storage to another and a regular vMotion device, transfer a live VM running from the memory of one host to another.

As such it is nowhere as dynamic as a normal vMotion alone, since the copy of VM disk data can take some time. There is also no support DRS.

You can read about some more here: http://wahlnetwork.com/2012/11/21/leveraging-vmwares-enhanced-shared-nothing-vmotion/

Must the CPU be the same model? For example, should all have Intel Xeon E5 2609 v2 CPU?

No, the basic requirement for transfer a live OS running, it's that both source and destination host supports the same CPU instruction sets. Exact model, clock speed Mhz cache, dimensions, etc. are not relevant as long as the CPU instruction sets are identical. So no, they do not have to be the exact same model.

In addition, you can enable Enhanced vMotion compatibility (EVC) on a cluster of servers with the same CPU provider, which allows you to establish the lowest common denominator of a generation of CPU between different hosts. For example, the Xeon E5 2609 v2 you mentioned is a generation Ivy Bridge CPU. If you add a generation Sandy Bridge Xeon you define the EVC to Sandy Bridge mode, as it is the older generation in your cluster and containing all common instructions sets that are also found in the home of Ivy Bridge of latest generation. If you add a

host with Haswell generation CPU, you would set the EVC at Ivy Bridge mode respectively.

VCA will hide the new instructions to virtual machines to ensure that they can be migrated directly to all guests.

You have to keep AMD out of your cluster host, but that's not really make a difference in your case since vMotion work never between AMD and Intel, and that you can not use VMware HA because you are devoid of shared storage. Just be aware that VM on the host AMD will never be able to migrate to other hosts without interruption of service through enhanced vMotion.

See these articles for more details on the VCA:
