vSphere VMware Workstation - is it possible?
I remember reading blog Mike Lavericks vSphere running with respect in an another ESX - there ran very well. My hypothesis is that the NDA to vSphere is over and someone can answer all the questions running vSphere as a virtual machine and so all guests can be run from there VMware Workstation in vSphere?
It would be very happy to be able to run a cluster of vSphere ESX from VMware Workstation you can currently with 3.5 for the etc test
For those who are interested in Mike's blog - http://www.rtfm-ed.co.uk/?p=1049
Thank you!
Yes, it is possible.
I've got 2 copies of ESX 4.0, 1 ESX 3.5 U2, 1 XP VM, DC 1, & 1 vCenter server running on my desktop...
Just make sure that you have a processor with Intel VT or AMD - V and have it turned on in the bios.
See you soon,.

Remote SSH to ESX 4.1 (running in VMWare Workstation) is not possible
I installed VMware Workstation 7.1 (latest) on Debian 5 (64-bit). In which I installed ESX 4.1
I followed the article to allow ROOT access on the server SSH (to ESX) http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 8375637
However, when I try to access the SSH server on the ESX Server from a remote system (for example my workstation that is on the same network) I get
"Error (connection refused) network.
Any ideas on that?

How do I download VMware Workstation 9 VMs and VSphere 5.0
Hello
I evaluate VMware Workstation 9 to see if it something that my company could use more our environment Vsphere ESXi.Rigth clicking on a VSphere VM shows that Upload and download are grayed out and is not accessible. I don't see any explanation why I can't choose this action.
What prevents me to do this?
In both your screenshots it looks you are trying to download virtual machines running - that does not work. To stop them, and then try again.
The trial version is limited in time - not in functions

Hello
I was wondering if it is possible to transfer everything to a virtual hard disk that is smaller on a virtual hard disk that is larger in VMWare Workstation, using the same virtual machine? In the affirmative, please could someone advise me on how to do it. Also utility management and disk transfer can be used in virtual machines to do this?
Thank you very much
Tim Auluck
I'm not sure what exactly you are asking. Can you please clarify!
Basically you can resize a virtual drive or add a second virtual disk to a virtual machine and transfer/copy files. You can also resize the virtual disk using VMware Converter for example.

Is it possible to open a VMWare Workstation virtual machine, VMWare Fusion?
Hi all
I recently moved to a MacBook Pro and have installed VMWare Fusion.
I searched the forums but cannot find an answer to the question (or maybe I did not only hit the right keywords).
My question is this... Is it possible to open a virtual machine that I created in VMWare Workstation, VMWare Fusion?
Thank you
Dan.
Do not. Just copy the folder FULL of computer workstation computer merger. In Fusion, select "Open an existing Virtual Machine" and find the folder that you copied and select the .vmx file. No stupid masking the content of the file making it appear to the user unaware that the entire virtual machine is a big don't file this way.

Export the VM from ESX 5.5 Server (Vsphere 5.5) to Vmware Workstation 11
Hello
I do not see that the version of the converter 5.5.3 has the opportunity to do
Question:
By opening the VMX file in the 11 workstation will work? someone did it?
Thank you
VMware Workstation 11 will allow you to connect to your vCenter or ESXi host and manage the virtual machine.

I have a problem with some VMWare Workstation customers, which case the mouse and keyboard to the virtual machine stops responding for a second or two under load. The mouse cursor stops, or jerk around the screen, and once past the load will be generally shot in another part of the screen. Similarly, the keyboard will become unresponsive, but when the load goes it will tend to double/triple type characters have been typed during the slow down.
I use these virtual machines primarily for programming and a good example of the guest being "under load" is when I am compiling; It is a heavy load of CPU and i/o load.
Two 64-bit Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 comments behave in this way, even if a Windows 2003 R2 plu prompt does not work.
The virtual machines are configured with 2 GB or 4 GB, which is set to adapt to the host (who has much free). Virtual machines and disks are on one of the the two SSD drives. They are both configured to monitor several. In both cases, there is a virtual primary 60GB, preeallocated and no split disk and a virtual disk of 10 GB, allocated in advance, do not divide and define it as independent.
I tried a number of settings, including having acceleration 3D on and out, manually replacing the CPU virtualization settings in VMWare and I tried all the following settings (together) and of which none have solved the problem:
svga.vramSize = 134217728
mainMem.useNamedFile = "FALSE".
sched.mem.pshare.Enable = "FALSE".
prefvmx.useRecommendedLockedMemSize = 'TRUE '.
mainmem.backing = 'swap '.
insulation. Tools.Unity.Disable = 'TRUE '.
If I connect via RDP to these machines, rather than using the workstation console, I do not understand the problem and there is not any particularly notable slowdown in performance
I had this behavior earlier in 9 work stations, but the upgrade to 10 did not make a difference.
Someone at - it recommendations for investigating or fixing this problem - it renders useless VMs for software development which is their main purpose?
Thanks in advance for any advice or help.
My host system is as follows:
Mobo: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO
CPU: Intel i7 2600 K
RAM: 16 GB
Video: Nvidia 580 for 2 monitors, integrated Intel SandyBridge third.
HARD drive: the hosts to the Samsung 840 Pro SSD, SSD Crucial M225 CT128, Western Digital 2 TB HARD drive
SE host: Windows 7 x 64

Thanks to Keith Lammers in this thread on the site of DisplayFusion.
It seems that the activation of the option of the processor affinity in the Fusion Advanced Setttings display makes the disappearance of the problem.

Networking question in VMware Workstation / nested ESXi network configuration problem
Hi guys,.
I am trying to set up a virtual lab, I setup a domain, a vcenter server and up to 1 ESXi host controller.
I am really struggling with the network aspect in establishing a vmnic for storing shared, please see the attached screenshots and a few questions:
- Is a vmnic a real network map? or vmnic correspond to "network adapters" that you put in place since the setting of your virtual machine?
I followed a tutorial and implement 3 NICs on the ESXi host, in Bridge mode, I tried this in my configuration of vmworkstation and I lose the connection to my server vcenter to the ESXi host.
See screenshot attached to how I configured my ESXi host, screenshot is called 'screenshot2esxihost network', I run got each of the maps defined on NAT network.
See also the screenshot of how I have my configuration of network settings in my VMWare Workstation, screenshot is called "screenshot1. the tutorial does not show how it has its editor of the virtual network configuration, but it puts its ESXi host NICs in BRIDGED mode, and I'm guessing that you can set this time within the virtual network adapter. If someone could tell me what changes should I make in there and on the network cards in my ESXi host, which would be really useful.
My domain controller, server ESXi hosts and vcenter are currently on the 192.168.86 range, which currently stood at NAT
See also a screenshot from the vsphere client - I don't see a vmnic "vmnic0", my goal is to be able to add a "vmnic2" for a separate storage network.
any help would be received with gratitude, I VCP510 review at the end of the month and really hope to be able to get my lab setup as soon as possible.
The vmnic is the rising 'physical' of an ESXi host. So with the 3 network cards that you configured for the host in VMware Workstation you will see under "Network adapters" and you can use them to vSwitches in the section "network".

How to replicate laboratory installation class in your vmware workstation 7
Hello
I have completed vSphere install and configure the class last month, but because of the short time, I couldn't much laboratory class. I do lab myself I have top of the range laptop Toshiba Tecra A11-S3540 with i7 2.24 processor and memory of 8 GB. I installed vmware workstation 7 on my laptop and I have not all ESX software for installation and the official class lab manual.
Is it possible I can do same laboratory within the workstation in a proper way. as do I make team or do I need to install individual ESX hosts within the workstation or I'm not real lab in my computer. I know it is not possible to reach every piece of laboratory class, but at least I can do some hands on via lab. I just want to learn through formal laboratory because I just finished my training as a classroom and everything is fresh in my mind.
I can't buy expensive server to make the lab or my hands world real opportunity.
Any help would be great.
Thank you
I used the following instructions http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2009/05/08/running-vsphere-within-workstation-will-take-up-a-lot-of-memory/

Migration from VmWare Workstation to a server solution
I am running 8 virtual machines of Windows XP inside VMWare Workstation on Windows 2008 (which I use as a workstation) in a box of Quad Core with 8 GB RAM.
My plan is to move the virtual machines of Windows XP on a separate server and possibly add a bit more to their number. I would also like to migrate the server functions of the current WIn2k8 box on that same server. These functions are the portion of light file, very lightweight SQL server and a few other minor services.
I am happy with VMWare Workstation and in particular the VMWare Tools application, because it makes the Windows XP virtual machines as reagent as if they were not VMs. It is important that after the migration, the virtual machines are as sensitive as they are now, given that I have would be to connect to them via ethernet to a Vista/Windows 7 machine by any means is the best (Office distance or something else).
I would like to know what solution I should opt for, I think that the options are either ESX/ESXi (what is the difference here?) - am I right that the best way to buy, as part of VMWare Server or VMware vSphere - 1.x on WIndows Server.
I have no requirements of availability/redundancy.
This means that ESX has a management console - what is a Linux kernel, you can perform operations as if you were on a Linux machine.
ESXi uses a very small SSH server and officially there is no way to interact with the machine on the console - everything is done by outside
They give the same ESX features no matter what version you use, just to manage that you need to do differently.
Of course ESX/ESXi works that on some hardware - there is a HCL and also a community supported the list machines that are capable of runnning ESXi, but are not supported by VMware.
VMware server - can run on practically a Windows y / OS Linux
Good luck to you ventures!

Re: Satellite keyboard Funtions vs. VmWare Workstation
Hello
I'm new to this forum...
I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite U500-115.
After you install all the programs I need, I noticed that the eco and the start/stop button lights buttons didn t work anymore.I uninstalled programs Toshiba - nothing works. So I installed win 7 pro x 64 again.
Buttons worked!!I discovered that vmware workstation 6 and 7 are at the origin of this problem.
As soon as I install the vmworkstation software the keys won´t work.
Uninstall--> buttons work.
I don't want to use both: buttons and vmware 6 or 7.
It seems to work with vmware 5.x, but this version of vmware is officially not recommended to work with win7. It takes about 10 minutes push button vmware initially until the vm ware starts booting.Perhaps someone could confirm this problem.
Hope of a quick solution!
Concerning
bachmayeahMaybe it sounds pessimistic now, but I don't think you'll have a quick solution to this.
The feature tools and utilities Toshiba is tested with the own operating system preinstalled and not with some third-party additional party software.
Can you imagine how these applications you will find there? Who should test the functionality with hundreds of other application? It is certainly not possible.I use VmWare, but I imagine that there is a problem where two applications met the other.
Sorry, but I don't think that there is nothing you can do about it.
