  Hello

  My six year, Sony's all-in-one PC is running slower and slower despite the developed and needs to be replaced this year. My dilemma is whether to replace now, probably with a laptop with screen 17.3 inch under Windows 7 Home Premium or wait for Windows 8 released. To use PC home and I'm a relatively unsohisticated user. Any advice much appreciated.

  Before getting a new laptop or PC, check their website to see if they already Win8 pilots. If so and you want something that looks like XP, I'd go for scope Win7 in time Win8 once it is released. A lot of the manufacturer may offer a "anytime upgrade" of Win7 for Win8 with the purchase of their product. Dell and others who did when Win7 is out; you buy a PC with XP installed, and you could get the upgrade later for a reduced price (and in some cases, free).

  I tried Win8 consumer Preview and really don't care for her. I'm not an iPad or iPhone user (I use my cell phone as a phone, not a computer), so I'm not all that familiar with the concept of full tile to do things. Give me a Start Menu and I'm happy :-)

  Of course, these are just my opinions, and I don't know there are many others who will be either agree or disagree with me, and that's ok. Diversity is what keeps life interesting :-)

• Buy X230T or wait for Windows 8?

  I am interested in buying tips.  I think I have a x230T for my son to use at school (at home).  I like the idea of him being able to take notes, and then draw in the formulas, molecules etc right in the document word (or whatever it ends up being).  I'm only interested in the ThinkPad (vs current Fujitsu) due the durablity and available education discounts.

  I read about Yoga and other hybrid tablets expected with the launch of Windows 8 and do not know if it is wise to wait or buy now (or if they will be prohibitive prices).  It seems that the new Tablet hybrids will be lighter than the current x230T.  I also read that it is sensible to wait for Windows 8, designed in the spirit tablets.  Here again, we have a first generation of Thinkpad Tablet and maybe make us just that.

  Advice appreciated (while I continue to find customers - have got to say that I was disappointed by the comments of x230T.  I bought my own X 220 last year and it had good reviews in all areas.  BTW, another reason for my interest in the x230T - I already have the extended battery and docking station.)

  Yoga and other types of tablets are touch the base, if you use it for taking notes or drawing, get the Tablet XxxxT or Fujitsu tablet.

  If you got the multitouch screen, so you would be able to use metro on windows interface 8.

  Reviews are the first point of the search, but personal experiences count more. I think that you have X 220, you know the kind of things you can expect from the X230t.

• Waiting for Windows Recovery remove repair

  I had a breakdown of start-up and use the installation to boot to the recovery disc and auto repair.  The AutoFix does not so I did a manual mbr fix and rebuild the bcd.   This repaired windows and launches to boot normally.  I then created an ERD on a bootable usb key that works very well.  When I started in the re for the trial, however, that there is a recovery pending action.

  Question: What method should I use for current wre.wim to reflect this State.  I know that WAIK can generate a new wim file, but I've not done this before.

  We will try to recover the registry from a backup to clear pending repair.

  Note: Since it is a backup, you may have to reinstall programs. Also make sure that you have saved important data before trying the steps.

  You can try the following steps and check if it helps:

  a. from a start command prompt, navigate to c:\windows\system32\config

  b. type ren system system.old, and then press enter

  c. type ren software software.old and press enter

  d. type copy c:\windows\system32\config\regback\software c:\windows\system32\config and press enter

  e. type copy c:\windows\system32\config\regback\system c:\windows\system32\config and press enter

  Update Microsoft Office Starter to Microsoft Office Home and Student will be all different running on Windows 7 or Windows 8, it will still work. So, I would upgrade now if you need the extra features and functionalility home and student offers.

  I have been waiting for SP1 to make an appearance through Windows Update and am still waiting. I checked the knowledge base and checked all problem drivers to see if I had any of the components.

  I don't have one of them, nor I have hidden updates that I chose to not not to install. Is there anything else that I could possibly check? I checked all my drivers in Device Manager, and all are updated.

  CIRCA 2010 Windows 7 D255 Aspire One user here.

  A few days ago, my netbook seemed ready to receive the upgrae Windows 10, but something overnight had bad shot with one of the updates of Windows and it wouldn't even check the additional updates.

  One in particular, I decided to do a factory reset, and after applying about 300 updates to Windows 7, I expect now that Windows 10 to arrive. Can someone tell me...

  (a) how long should I wait for the download start. The applet installed by the Windows 7 final update confirms that I have booked my copy and must simply wait

  (b) the netbook should stay connected to receive the update, or is just being in a punt by tate ok

  (c) experiences good or bad on running Windows 10 on an Aspire One D255 (or similar)

  Have you checked you anti-virus software, I found mine can slow down processing system from time to time. Also check the amount of free space you have on your hard disk, because if it becomes weak which will affect things.
