Want 4520: AutoReport to ink cannot refresh

Just installed my new desire 4520 and registered for snapshot of ink.  The printer itself works perfectly, including Web Services, but connected HP can't communicate with the printer when I try to check my page use in my instant ink account.  He succeeded from time to time, but most of the time, 9 of the 10 times says "cannot refresh now, try again later."

What is the problem?

hahaha, my bad. I thought that "man, I would have thought that as a username.

I'm glad to hear everything is working now.

  • Want to 4500 and 4520: can fancy 4500 and want 4520 coexist as selection printers?

I had one desire to 4500 for about 18 months and just bought a 4520 desire and want to use interchangeably two printers.  When installing drivers 4520 want to internet, he failed twice. I used the CD provided and managed to instal want 4520 successfully.  I note however for the digitization of the device and the printer control panel, Envy 4500 has been "removed" but not deleted.  It seems that I must reinstal 4500 want next time I want to use it.  Is there a better solution?  They both cannot exist under another printer?

    Hello

Thank you for using the HP Forums.

In theory, the two must be able to exist together.

Just that alone can be the default printer and if you want to print from another printer, you must select specifically in some software/applications that you use.

Suggest that you uninstall and reinstall each one printer at a time again.

First select a printer, select win 10 OS download/install the FULL features software, then repeat with the 2nd printer. Note that the 2nd printer will "Default" (since it is the most recent must be installed)

    Hope that helps.

  • Want 4520: directions to instant ink

I joined instant ink.  The directions say to make sure that the printer is always online. However, when I turn off the printer completely, the wifi indicator disappears.  Is this to say that instant ink requires that the printer must always stay in 'sleep' mode and is never completely off?

    Hello

Thank you for using the HP Forums.

No, you can turn off the printer.

Make sure you just as you have online at least once every few days, which would be sufficient for the instant ink work.

    Hope that helps!

  • Want 4520: want printing 4520 red instead of black

Recently, my 4520 began to print red only when I want to print in black. I get around this by removing the color cartridge. However, it is not a good solution. As part of the copy of the screen, I select 'Black Start' when you make a copy. This does not resolve the situation.

Hi @nwnittany49and welcome to the Forums of HP!

I'd love to help you with your urge for 4520. According to your description, I understand that the printer will not print black when you have both cartridges installed, and instead, it prints red. • Windows Vista - Cannot refresh a thumbnail

I am running Vista Home Premium.  I have a file that was originally saved with an extension of html that I changed to a gif.  It's html files do not show a thumbnail image in the Solution Explorer, then now that I changed the extension, it shows me that just an icon, not a thumbnail.

In XP, there is an option to right click to 'refresh the thumbnail', but in Vista, there is no option.  I know that I can delete the cache of thumbnails together, but I don't want to have to do that when the thumb of the single file is messed up.  Is there a way to refresh the thumbnails based on files?

Don't feel too bad.  I searched a lot longer than 3 hours and didn't come with no more than you did.  The fact that you were looking for 3 hours is a great honour to your character.

In Windows Vista disk cleanup tool has the same effect of delete the cache of thumbnails manually, which, believe it or not, I knew how to dobefore I never ran the cleaning tool.  It takes just return to square one, and you must re-create all of the cache from scratch.  Your suggestion to "open each folder once and let it run overnight to rebuild the cache while you're sleepting" is almost humorous, but was not feasible.  The thumbnails are generated only once the files become visible, so you not only would open each folder (I have probably hundreds), but you also have to scroll through each of them.  If it was all the there was to it, it would still be a daunting task.  However, as soon as you browse the folder, thumbnails stop loading for that folder, then you will have an open Explorer window for each folder, and you must have scrolled each.  Even if I thought that my system could handle 100 active windows at the same time, I am not entirely sure that my brain could, so I think that option is out.  My cache of thumbnails is 1.76 GB.  Imagine how small footprint of the thumbnail is and then divide this small tiny number in bytes 1.9 trillion and see you why I don't want to delete my cache.  I'm currently reorganizing my photo library, which extends over almost 20 years.  Maybe when I'm done which, I will rebuild my cache, because I do not know there are entries dead in it due to my moving and deleting files.  Of course, I didn't realize 20 years ago what my library could get (I'm a bit a photographer), I would have organized it better from the beginning.

I thought of a reason to be, albeit a defective, for Vista do not have the option refresh thumbnail.  Under XP, cache thumbnails of each file was included in another file called thumbs.db and stored in this file system.  Vista stores all thumbnails in a central location.  Now everyone who doesn't think too much could accept that because the cache is stored in one place, Windows cannot just go and delete the old entry and generate a new.  It's only excuse I imagine them having to remove a feature, when progress generally dictates adding features.  The problem with this argument is that Windowscould do exactly that.  If each tile was allotted a number of bytes, the old thumbnail could simply replaced by the new, so would not re - record 1.76 GB Windows, but may simply rewrite a few KB.  We are direct access reads and writes on disks 30 years ago - you know they can do them now.  Obviously, Windows can access the thumbnails in a very short time when it loads a file, so it should not be a problem.  And yet he is somehow.

Your third suggestion is a free plugin from a line of software called real world - that's what the "rw" in the URL represents - that I find it ironic, since for every one who executes even Windows XP, most of the plug-in allows you to retrieve the pictures for image types is already managed as standard thumbnails.  There are only a few specialized types for which I could see it being useful.  Of course, it's the range of software called 'Real world', this isn't really a misnomer.  There is mention of the existence of no refresh option in Vista and the cleaning tool, is just to let you know that clear the cache is the only provision that Windows Vista made to rebuild the thumbnails.

You may have noticed that I jumped on the second option.  I did it to save the best for last.  I have marked your post useful (you're welcome) for the second option.  No, my question was not answered by any means, but it me to solve another problem that was not irritated me enough to inquire.  All my video files show thumbnailsexcept MP4, I found strangely annoying.  More than just strangely annoying actually, if I have a MP4 on an external drive and then tried to remove this drive two hours later, Windows told me that he couldn't stop my volume, or such bilge water.  Review of Process Explorer, I discovered that Explorer still had a handle on each single MP4 I have been looking, even if I never open or even clicked on them.  To eject the disc, I had to kill to explore and then remove the disk and restart explore.  Turns out that somehow an incorrect value was transferred to the thumbnail Manager in the registry.  I put the correct value in, and everything was beautiful with all my s MP4 - something for which I am very happy, since my camera stores video in MP4 format.  Again, thank you.

And if that wasn't enough, I also marked it useful for another reason.  The article that you referenced is a mine of useful information.  It shows you how to turn labels on and off manually turn on images or videos (you must do it manually if you want thumbnails for but not the other).  It shows you how to enable thumbnail views on a per-file type basis.  Even more if you are still run on XP machine, but want your thumbnails to look more like Vista.  It includes even a link to the Pack K-lite MegaCodec, which is essential to see the pictures for many video formats, such as Flash video, DivX, etc., not to mention is just as important to be able to watch all of these videos in Windows Media Player, instead of three or four different players.

But apart from miniature issues, it includes links to other useful software, as the best free image/handling look a program I have ever used and have been using IrfanView for many years -.  There is a file called attributes properties and property editor more.  According to the readme file, the program is 12 years old, but he always works to change the file date/time.  It includes also the two the only two free utilities, I found to date that allow the user to change the time of day, what a photo was taken.  Windows Vista has an EXIF Editor built-in that allows you to change the date, but does not let you change the time.  Oh, I could go to go - I'm only at half way through its post - but if I keep going on his post, I will get to my surprising discovery.  What is...

    Back to the original question...

I came to the top with two different alternatives that would help the problem, although I have not found the solution I really am looking for yet.  And I thought both in the middle of typing this message.  Method to use depends on whether you have seen the folder containing the file (s)

    • If you have already seen the file and suddenly realized too late that the extensions are false: difficulty first, extensions.  If you have a lot of files to correct, as I did, you can use a utility to speed things up.  I use renaming utility in bulk.  Once the extensions are corrected, select files and using theright(secondary) mouse button, drag the files to themselves, then select copy here from the context menu.  What you will get are exact copies files in the same folder, except copies will generate a thumbnail again because they are new files.  The problem is, once Vista has assigned a thumbnail into a file, it will not affect a new.  This is where the miniature refresh option in XP was so useful.  So my own example, if the extension is .html, then Vista says ' there is no sticker, so just of it use the default icon for this file type. "  If I simply change the extension, the Vista notes that change in the cache of thumbnails, so it is always just the default icon.  When copying the files, I have create new files, which then properly Vista will create thumbnails for.  Then I can remove the original files and use Bulk Rename Utility to remove the suffix "-copy" files corrected.  The downside, besides the fact that it is heavy, is that new files have the date and time that you created the copies, not the original file date and time.  Copies must retain all of the original EXIF data.
    • If you have not seen the folder in Explorer or in a box as a save file dialog or the open dialog box, it is much easier.  Open a command prompt (for those joining broadcasting already underway, click the Start button, and then in the search box, type "cmd" (without the quotes) and press enter).  If you started in administrator mode, the prompt will tell "C:\Windows\System32 >" If you started it in mode standard, it will read "C:\Users\votre_nom> ' where votre_nom would actually show your username for Windows.  Navigate in the command prompt window to the folder that contains the files with incorrect extensions.  For example, if the files are in a subfolder called 'Blizzard of 2010' in your pictures folder and you are in your user folder, type ' CD Pictures\Blizzard of 2010 "and press ENTER.". "  If you are in the System32 folder, type "CD\Users\votre_nom\Pictures\Blizzard 2010" instead.  My own example once again, the incorrect extension of all files is .html, and it should be .gif, so at the command prompt, type "RENAME *.» HTML *. GIF"and press ENTER.  If there was only one folder of difficulty, you are finished with the command window and can enter press and type 'exit' to close.  Because you had not yet seen the folder in Explorer, Vista had not yet managed thumbnails for files, and so it can generate correctly the first time.  No files to delete and not files that need to be renamed again.  And the files retain their original created and modified dates.
    • Alternative to option 1 - do not first change file extensions.  Instead, see option 2, but instead of "RENAME *.» HTML *. Type GIF"" COPY *.» HTML *.
. GIF"- by copying one extension to another and without specifying a different destination, you create copies of already having the right extension.  Then you can use the Explorer and delete files with the extension of the evil, and you won't have to rename them again to remove ""-copy "of the end, because she's not here."

No, it's not a perfect substitute for the shell extension refresh thumbnail that was present in XP, but it still beats a kick in the eye with a sharp stick.  And for my own purposes of downloading is worth ten years of daily comics - all files in 3 699 being perfectly good GIF files with the wrong station - and I am also comfortable in the BACK like in Windows, the second option, I just proposed would have been just as easy as highliting all files in the Explorer and hit refresh thumbnail.  But that's just me.  Now ask me why I thought of him three months when I really needed.

You have one of those days when you are driving through the city, and suddenly, you remember where, in the garage, you put the flashlight you were looking for all night when the power was interrupted last Christmas?  Well, that's how I feel now.  I've been racking my brain for three months to come empty and now poor Lorien got into the Act and suddenly an hour I came with the first two options and as soon as I posted it, I opened this right of return and added the alternate.  I could just throw myself - but my foot does not reach my head, then what good?

  • Want 4500 Scan to computer cannot be configured to start automatically

In the Envy Series 4500 HP printer Assistant under 'Manage the computer analysis' that one is supposed to be able to click on a checkbox so that the feature is enabled on startup (Windows connect).

However, on my system, this box does not (cannot be verified) and I have to go and click on the button "Activate" on each session when I want to analyze manually. (Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit SP1, HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC)

Is this a known bug or is me live it? Anyone know what might be wrong or wheather it work around, as an alternative way to start the service?

    Kind regards

.. Finally managed to do work, and the solution was simple. I only had to start the wizard by using 'Run as administrator' (right-click with the mouse on the icon), and then the desired option is clickable.

Support HP BTW began to ask what version of Windows (by e-mail), I was using - just embarrassing. Well, at least they don't recommend uninstalling all other drivers, wait 30 seconds and reformat the drive.

  • Want 4520: Format size photos before mobile printing?

Just got my brand new HP Envy 4520 spankine yesterday, had set up, connected wireless, etc. This morning tried sending pictures to print from my iPhone - cool way. Works. Fabulously. Except that each photo comes in full page (8.5 x 11) without borders. What happens if I want to is it smaller? No apparent way to perform alternative sizing in the send-to-print-directly-from-phone process. Am I wrong? No question? Or is it? I guess that the obvious workaround is to edit the photo on the screen on my desktop before printing, but it's a lot more work.

Recognition of a beginner for advice you can offer.

Apple AirPrint do not provide such control and print an image as it is good without control.

You may install and use the HP ePrint app instead, which offer more control as the choice of a specific paper size.

  • Want 4520 all-in-one: 4520 want does not print from internet

The printer prints documents from Word and other programs, but NOT the internet. I checked the network printer is connected to and I am connected to this network. I checked to see if it was a driver issue I saw one when I checked the device. I downloaded it, but it has not made a difference. I do not see a network called Direct 85 HP Envy 4520 series listed in network connections options, but when I select this option, I have no internet connection, only the printer. I want to be able to be on the internet and be able to print from it. Please help, thanks.

    Hello

Looks like you are using the direct wireless feature of your printer that allows your printer generate its own wifi signal and your laptop / PC connect directly to-cela the drawback being that it puts the signal from your laptop / PC to the printer and prevents internet access.

The best way to print wireless while being able to use internet on your device is to connect your printer and your laptop / PC to your home wifi signal. You must disable all direct features active wireless on your printer off and connect to your wifi signal at home (not the 85 HP Envy 4520 series Direct signal).

Pages 36 and 37 of the below user guide shows how to configure the wireless connection.
