    Hi Aurelius,

If the newspapers of cleaning did not help them (which I expect to). You can run in a known defect, this problem occurs because as the access_log does not turn properly after we reach the limit of size.

    The Cisco default is #.

CSCti86040 - Access_log not turning or delete when erasing logs on DMM

This default is set in point 5.2.2 release of code, but you can open a TAC case and we can remove the access_log journal and apply the workaround for the same thing.

  • At all times the value/var/log/messages * mode 644

What process constantly changes/var/log/messages * mode back to the 640? I want to disable that. Thank you.

I'd guess logrotate.  Have you checked /etc/logrotate.d/syslog?  It does not specify a particular permission?

If not specified, logrotate should retain the existing file permissions.

  • Security warning opening the file

    Windows Vista Edition Home Premium.

Open File Security Warning - do you want to open this file?

Just started having recently. But I'm only opening. JPG image files. I'm not trying to run programs or anything like that.  Double-clik just the image and this alert appears. I know that this is just a simple click to clear, but A) it didn't happen before, a few weeks ago and B) I just not want to notify me whenever I want to open a picture of the machine.

    Very annoying!

If I'm right-clik the image file, I get the option to "unblock" the file and subsequently, he won't give the warning again for only one file. However I have gazillions of images (well a few thousand I guess in any case) and unlocking does not seem to be used in the attempt of "Select block" of 20 or 30 files at once.  Also very annoying!

Although I'm not really interested in the "why" (but it might interest my husband who thinks he can be a recent update to Vista which has caused this start out-of-the-blue), but I'm more interested how solve this problem.

Microsoft has an answer? I can do something here on my PC, or is it an other update to cancel it? You should know that I'm not messing around with the machines 'register' or something like that. Nor my husband (coz I'm not going to let him).

Thank you for the pointers or heals.

I really hope Microsoft has the cure, because it seems that the general consensus of the opinions I've heard so far said they are the ones who have changed something on my PC, perhaps unintentionally.

Try a system restore to a Date before the problem began:

    Restore point:

    http://www.howtogeek.com/HOWTO/Windows-Vista/using-Windows-Vista-system-restore/

Do Safe Mode system restore, if it is impossible to do in Normal Mode.

Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

    http://www.windowsvistauserguide.com/system_restore.htm

Read the above for a very good graph shows how backward more than 5 days in the System Restore Points by checking the correct box.

    See you soon.

  • AnyConnect triggers warning to the file Hosts on Avira

The company that I work uses Anyconnect to provide VPN services.

I wonder why Anyconnect 3.0.10055 triggers a warning from access to the Hosts file on Avira antivirus on my Windows 7 64 Bit PC?  I tried to disable the protection of Avira and then connection and not detected any changes made to the file.  AnyConnect connects very well even when Avira blocks access.  Anyconnect opens it for writing, but do not write?

On a separate note, why Anyconnect use 6 ip addresses?  Should what document I read?

    Thank you

    Bruce

    Hi Bruce

as far as I understand, AC has indeed changed the hosts file, but only for a very short time when establishing the connection.

To be more precise, after doing a DNS lookup of the head (AAS or router) it will rename the hosts file and create a new one that contains the result of the DNS lookup. This is to ensure that the following names searches return the same ip address. When the connection is established, the original hosts file is restored.

Now, it's only important in scenarios where the DNS load balancing is used, then, where the DNS name, you connect to potentially resolves in 2 or more different ip addresses. This could cause a problem if at different stages of the procedure of connection, we use different ip addresses, that's why we store the first ip address in the hosts file.

So if you do not use the VPN load balancing then you should not see any problem if the hosts file is not editable.

Are what 6 addresses you referring?

  • The file "global-messages-db' in Thunderbird profiles serves any purpose - I can delete?

The file "global-messages-db' in Thunderbird profiles - is very large and seems to reproduce what is in (or was) of the mail files. This is a very large file - what are the consequences if I delete it? Can I remove it safely?
    Thank you, David

Thunderbird doesn't have to run everything by doing anything in profile files.

The global-messages-db file may be deleted.
Thunderbird will create a new one.
When you perform a search, it will be be repopulated with data.

  • USB key contains VMX and VMDK files, I import them to an ESX Server 3.5

I use VMware Workstation to use these virtual machines, but now I would add these virtual machines from one ESX Server. Each virtual machine is in its own directory on the USB drive and each folder contains files etc, vmxf, vmx, vmdk. What is the best way to get these on a server ESX from external USB drive?

Or install the stand alone vConverter. It's free and it's the part of the VC you would use anyway. So I just install the vConverter and import your virtual machines to do. After they are imported, you'll need to register virtual machines.

  • / var/log - safe to delete files

    Hi all

On 1 of my hosts ESX file/var/log has grown to the point its me cause problems creating VM etc... look at the files in this folder are large size particularly sercure.1 and secure.2 (more than 200 MB) my question is, is - it safe to delete these files? I have also a lot of vmkernel.* is also safe to empty these files?

    Thank you

The files that you see with le.1,.2,... extensions are newspapers archived resulting from the rotation of log files. Log files are usually shot based on their size, or when a host or VM is powered. You can remove these log files rotated if you want to free up disk space. I do not recommend you delete the files '.log', because they are usually the current criteria (except for virtual machine logs).

However, if the log files have this size, there must be a reason for this. I would recommend that you first take a peek in log files to see if there is an issue that must be resolved before you delete.
