The file "global-messages-db' in Thunderbird profiles serves any purpose - I can delete?

The file "global-messages-db' in Thunderbird profiles - is very large and seems to reproduce what is in (or was) of the mail files. This is a very large file - what are the consequences if I delete it? Can I remove it safely?
Thank you, David

Thunderbird doesn't have to run everything by doing anything in profile files.

The global-messages-db file may be deleted.
Thunderbird will create a new one.
When you perform a search, it will be be repopulated with data.
More information:
