Watch on asm

Hello

Is it possible to have a primary on a regular file system and sleep on ASM?

Thank you

You can do with RMAN

    You must use the second option using srvctl.

    Because srvctl is intended to start/stop resources.

    Even when using first order too, you can accomplish this and also using lsnrctl also. But I would prefer srvctl.

  • DataGuard configuration question.

    I need suggestion about the configuration of the dg.

    So my question is can I create instance watch on ASM?
    primary means no EAM with omf and Eve on ASM for?
    Please notify. Thanks in advance.

    You can... but I wouldn't... and here's why. Assuming that, even if you did not, it is not logical and physical.

    The point of the physical standby, is that it is 100% identical to your production by all means server. Shell scripts, run on one should run without modification or other tests on the other. It is the same for all aspects of infrastructure. Make it different and you invite problems or need to up on all aspects of the tests.

    In case you, to all the less, your upgrade paths, and other names must be different. Of course, I would move one spfile to another.

    Why not move the primary to ASM, and then to implement the strategy of DR?

I have a Mac I installed Oracle Virtual Box, in addition to that, I installed Oracle Linux 6.5. I did all the pre-reqs for the installation of the database, but have not installed. From my understanding before installing the database, I need to install Oracle 11 g Grid Infrastructure for ASM. I need help in this area, I can run Setup for grid very well, but I have no idea of what I need to do regarding the section that is like you to select records, get the disks within the viritualbox. There was a video on youtube who advise me to use Starwind to put in place a virtual SAN/NAS storarge network:

    I tried but Starwind never sent me a confirmation email so that I can't use their trial. I found other virtual like openfiler and open-e storage but I have no idea how to do to configure these to work with my Virtual Box. Can someone advise me, if I'm going in the right direction, if yes what should I do then? Or y at - it another way that I can put in place disks for Oracle 11 g grid Infrastructure. • Add more space to the ASM disk group

    Hi all

    I am new to the DBA role and also in a process of learning. I need your help in putting a space at the ASM disk group. My VMware admin will add disk space to the virtual machine, and then the Linux admin will add space on Linux servers. Finally, I think I need to rebalance the database disk group to view the extra space. I'm not sure of what all the steps involved in this process. I like to read the Oracle Documentation, but I'm blurry and hesitant. Please let me know the steps to follow to add the ASM disk group space.

    We use

    Oracle DB version 11.2.0.3.0

    Linux version: 2.6.18 - 238.12.1.el5

    Thanks for your help

    No....

    You don't need any instance restart. More when you add a disk to a diskgroup, all rac nodes can see.

    You should add a node and watch v$ asm_operation...

  • Question of the ASM

    Hello

    I'll put up a 11.2.0.3 new install and I have a problem in my hands a little bit.

    While doing the installation, I created the asm on a partition disk in:
    oracleasm createdisk DATA /dev/sdb2
    Now, after rebooting, it may be the case when my score is not identified as/dev/sdb2 more instance cannot find the disc, so I need to tag it with something like
    e2label <partition> <labelname>
    to ensure consistent names after a reboot and my instance ASM will not fail

    My question is, can I I "remap" the ASM/dev/sdb2 < labelname > disc without having to recreate all over again? If so, how?

    Thank you

    just now, I am from sracth, comes to complete installation of oel6 and create the partitions with fdisk on my raid1 + 0
    one that I have already formatted with ext3 and im moving the installers to the server to start

    Any guide you know I can't go through?

    Have not yet installed oracleasm.

    The next steps so far are:
    -Once all the installation on the server programs I'm good to go with oracleasm
    --> Create disc on an unformatted partition/dev/sdb2
    --> install grid
    --> create diskgroup
    --> install 11 GR 2
    --> instance to create

    DO NOT use oracleasm - as I have said, it is expected to be close to retirement. If you don't want to be related to it.

    Make sure that the device has the appropriate permissions before you start.
    In the installation program, select ASM for OCR. in the lower right corner to select CHANGE DISKSTRING and configured to point to/dev/sd * and he sees only one with the correct permissions. It will ask you the name of diskgroup, and you select the sdb2 with REDUNDANCY EXTERNAL device. It will automatically load the initial configuration. Watch the udev.config to find out how to set permissions on startup

    I don't usually promote other websites, but this looks like a good start on how to correctly configure udev...

  • Help with ASM and path discovery

    Hello

    I am following the guide to http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/hunter-rac11gr2-iscsi-3-088680.html and by train to install oracle grid infrastructure. This RAC system is Oracle Unbreakable Linux 6.2 on 2 systems. I set up my iSCSI disks and run oracleasm createdisk for CRSVOL1, DATAVOL1 and FRAVOL1 such as oracleasm listdisks Watch:

    CRSVOL1
    DATAVOL1
    FRAVOL1

    and

    $ ls-la/dev/oracleasm/discs.

    BRW - rw - 1 oracle oinstall 8, 113 9 May 17:04 FRAVOL1

    I'm on the screen 'Create the ASM disk group' and the guide suggests that you enter ORCL:CRSVOL1 for the discovery trail, but contrary to the image of the guide, that doesn't show me no record of candidate. I don't really understand this journey of discovery. If I change the path ' / dev/oraclasm/disks/CRSVOL1 ' I get a disc candidate unlike the guide that shows all 3. This suggested that I did something wrong.

    I ran the Cluster check and passed.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

    If I change the path ' / dev/discs/oraclasm/CRSVOL1 ' I get a disc of candidate

    Now try under path

    "/ disks/oraclasm/dev / * VOL1 '.

    Hello
    10g R2, Unix and ASM 10.2 HP

    a new file system would be added by system (Unix admin) what do I do as a DBA to:
    -See in ASM?

    -be able to create files of data on it?

    Thank you.

    Hello

    First of all, you need to find the new drive with fdisk-l
    then you will need to create a partition, if not already done

    fdisk /dev/

    Oracleasm allows you to create a disk and a scan of the disc on other nodes

    oracleasm createdisk  /dev/
    oracleasm scandisks

    to make sure that the drive exists you can use

    oracleasm listdisks

    Connect in ASM with sqlplus and then run

    alter diskgroup  ADD DISK '/dev/';

    You can watch "http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b31107/asmdiskgrps.htm#CHDBIFGA" for more information on how to admin ASM starts.

    Kind regards.

  • ASM disk offline - suspended state

    Hey my ASM configuration I've set up since this

    Failure of path name ASM disk group
    / dev/RAW/raw4 FG1_Data Data1 [on SAN1]
    / dev/RAW/raw5 FG2_Data Data2 [on SAN2]
    / dev/RAW/raw6 Reco1 FG1_Reco [the SAN1]
    / dev/RAW/raw7 Reco2 FG2_Reco [on SAN2]

    everything is good.

    My I turned off SAN1. A query on v$ asm_disk watch DATA1 & RECO1 disk as offline - hung state.

    I did in the case of asm in sqlplus:
    EDIT DATA DISKGROUP DROP of DISK data1; -> success
    Reco1 ALTER DISKGROUP RECO DROP DISC; -> success

    Failgroup ALTER DISKGROUP DATA ADD DATA3 ' / dev/raw/raw4 '; -> success
    ALTER DISKGROUP RECO ADD failgroup RECO3 ' / dev/raw/raw6 "; -> success

    The query on v$ asm_disk stills show the DATA1 but DATA3 and RECO1-, RECO3 so.

    Is it true, that the 'old' entries will disappear, once the ASM instance is restarted? I can´t do this for the moment.

    Informaciones - why go the ASM disks offline?
    SAN1 was off for about 5 minutes - and was then returned to service.
    Is this expected behavior?

    No, they were right.
    Also you need to do this manually is planned.

  • Foglight - Oracle ASM Question

    Hey guys

    Our DBAs are complaining that Foglight is alarming

    Disk/dev/rdsk/c10t60060E80100AF6700530276F00000002d0s6/GROUP_FLASH_0001 ASM ASM Group 4 is used at 100%.

    When break us the discs themselves are found plenty of space.

    More while we are on the topic is a way to drill down to the individual disk/lun datagroup ASM? I was invited to watch the individual disk IO.

    I came across this nuance in my test of the product.  Apparently, there's a difference between an ASM disk and and the ASM DiskGroup.  In my organization, the ASM disks are always 100% allocated in ASM starts.  It is the DiskGroup who see the DBA.  We have actually disabled ASM disk completely and only with the ASM DiskGroup followed rule.

  • ASM or file system

    We are in the process of transition of the Oracle 9.2 to Oracle 11 g R1. There is an exchange of views concerning the use of ASM (we use the file system currently in our environment 9i). What are the benefits by using their ASM on filesystem?, would we see any performance gains/etc.? any information would be greatly appreciated

    DarkFiBrE72 wrote:
    What are the benefits by using their ASM on file system?

    Rather easy choice IMO. ASM without any doubts or concerns.

    ASM works with Oracle. Is designed for Oracle. Fully supports Oracle. You can't say that any system file cooked.

    Used for well over 3 years now and never had a single problem attributed to the ASM goes down. And we have a couple of databases exceeding a TB in size.

    Would we see any performance gains/etc?

    No! How the software layer of storage/volume manager can do the rotation of the faster disks and controller heads read and write data faster?

    ASM is a s/w layer. no h/w. What it can do, is provide the level s/w RAID - although it is better to do it at the level to support him. The RAID is "+ better + ', but this does not imply that ASM now offers a sudden increase in performance that did not previously exist.

    That can make the ASM is auto balance of hot spots on the disks. This does not make the I/O faster, it distributes it more evenly.

    So no, don't expect ASM to wear a cowboy hats, spurs, set up a huge white Stallion and shoot silver bullets to kill the monster formidable performance.

    There is an exception to this topic-ASM for Exadata. But it is a version special s/w and only available for clients running Exadata storage nodes. In this case ASM (among others) dynamically built of blocks of data and provide performance e/s in this way gains.

    Bottom line is, however, that ASM is not something that makes the I/O to go faster. You want fast I/O? You need to watch all I/O subsystem (including the DSO is only a small part) - which is btw what is an Exadata storage node and why it offers incredible performance of I/o.
