WD My Passport Ultra 1 TB

I bought the unit above to use with Windows 7 on my Dell computer for backup.  He has just arrived and the box is marked Windows 10.  Does this mean that it will not work for Windows 7?  If this is not the case, what is the best thing for me to buy that works?

Thanks for any help

Simply plug. It will work.

WD made great bare records, but their cases are often hostile Mac regardless of the hype on the box. Please see my comments in this thread:

WD My Passport for Mac is not recognized

The other poster was trying to retrieve items on the disk, so a delete/reformat was not an option for him. However, WD boxes are often better if they are are erased and reformatted for Mac. WD has an odd of industrial property on the reader that they stick in their enclosure which can cause formatting problems. Their speakers are often working very well after reformatting the drive inside.

After struggling with a number of external hard drives 'brand', I now use only those that are sold by Other World Computing:

They may cost more that those who will be on sale every weekend in the supermarkets of office, but, when I wonder what's worth my data, the cost of the OWC speakers seems quite affordable. We have them on every Mac we have and none have shown bad behavior.

    OT:

    Please help with this

Try this: go to "Start" then go to "Computer" right click on computer and left-click 'manage '.

This will bring you to the management of the computer. From there, you should see the drive. Try "initialize disk".

If you are not the "backup operator" or the "Administrator", then go to the control panel - system tools

-Administrative Tools, then click on "disk management". From there, you can follow these instructions.

    Initialize new disks

Backup operator or administrator is the minimum number of members required.

    To initialize new disks
    1. In disk management, right-click the disk you want to initialize, and then click Initialize Disk.

    2. In the dialog box initialize the disk , select the disk to initialize. You can choose to use the master boot record (MBR) or the style of partition GUID partition table (GPT).

    Note

The disk is initialized as a basic disk.

    Additional considerations

    • New disks appear as uninitialized. Before you can use a disk, you must first initialize it. If you start disk management after the addition of a disk, the disk initialization Wizard appears then you can initialize the disk.

  • Pavilion G6-2123us: recovery of System Image of WD My Passport Ultra

On my Pavilion G6 Notebook, I created a Windows 7 System Image and stored on an external USB WD My Passport Ultra.  When I boot my drive to repair (with the connected USB drive) and asks him to restore a System Image it says that it manages.  Because it's there (my Windows 8 machine can see the images on the USB drive), I guess that the G6 can not see My Passport USB drive.  I've updated the BIOS and other software recommended on the G6 as well as update the firmware on My Passport but no luck.   The G6 are able to see the key USB when I started upward in repair disk mode?   I give myself the option to load drivers for my external hard drive, but I don't know what that way with a USB connected any device.  If the G6 should be able to see the USB key, what should be my next step?

I'll call this resovled.  The answer is that the native Windows tools to manage the system image in Windows 7 are really quite poor and you're better off using another product.  But whatever happens, to start on the ERD and see the USB you have to plug the USB on the right side (mouse) USB port.

  • Disabled USB when you run the WD My Passport Ultra software

I use a WD My Passport Ultra 1 TB with Windows 7 X 64, when I run the WD software all USB ports and paved touch on my laptop would deactivate but jut the keyboard. I made all possible options to solve it, but... I have removed the app, re installed the last version of the web site, restart windows. But when I connect this device as external DHH, everything goes well. I don't know what part of the security of this software disable all USB ports. I have disabled Antivirus, nothing has changed.

Please advise what would be a problem!

    Thank you

    Reza

    Hey there RezaMoghadam :)

I'm sorry to hear about your problem. I'll try to help him with everything I can. :)
What WD software do you use? This happens with other WD or third party you run software? You have the latest driver and OS? Is the function of conduct properly on this or other computers? What is the brand and model of your laptop?
I could try the drive on another computer and see if the problem still occurs.
I also check the disk with the WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool and see if it passes the tests quick and extended. Here is a link to the tool: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=3XVkbA
Another thing you can do is completely remove drivers and let the OS to install via the update tool.

Post back with some progress :)

  • Fusion 6, USB 3.0 and WD My Passport Ultra 1 TB... IN CASE OF FAILURE!

Has anyone found a verified correction to get a Western Digital my passport Ultra 1 TB USB 3.0 working with VMware Fusion 6?  I know it is problem or failure with VMware Fusion because it works very well in VMware Workstation 10.  A largely acquired VMware workshop, it's very disappointing.

    History

Built the new virtual machine for Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 7 x 64 and conducted all Microsoft Updates using VMware Fusion 6.0.3 and OS X 10.9.2 with Late 2012 13 "MacBook Pro retina.

    Problem

Connected to Western Digital my passport drive Ultra 1 to USB 3.0 to newly built VM.  The following error:

The "(Western Digital My Passport 0741) device" could not connect to its ideal host controller. "

    Screen Shot 2014-05-08 at 4.11.58 PM.png

Solution (that is, not really a Solution)

Use VMware Workstation 10 on workstation hp Elite 8300 running Windows 7 Professional x 64.  No problem encountered.

If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this very annoying VMware Fusion and USB 3.0 I would be very happy.

It is probably because the linux distribution supports USB 3.

  • Reformat the WD My Passport Ultra for Mac does not

My Ultra passport was once on my Windows 7 PC. I reformatted since it on my PC just to get all the information out of him.

I want to format it to work on my Macbook Pro for Time Machine, so I looked into how to do it. He told me to open the disk utility, choose the drive and choose "delete".

However, the 'Clear' button is grayed out and it wont let me delete it.

Yet once again, the disk has already been formatted on my PC, is empty.

Is there perhaps a way to format it for a Mac on my PC?

You can't use a PC to reformat a drive for a Mac, take a screenshot of the drive with the drive connected utility, so we can see what you see.

  • Impossible to partition WD My Passport Ultra 3 TB

Hi, I recently bought a WD Passport 3 TB and formatted. When I tried to partition it in two (one for general use - MS DOT and one for Time Machine - OS Extended) format, but it won't allow me. Can someone advise me please on what do I do?

    MacBook Pro OS X (10.11.3)

Backups on a single physical disk.  Data use and * especially * PC Mac data mix on the other disks.

You don't want to take the risk of your backup with the data-general mix.

Just updated the text above to include it on the evolution of the manual... you are too quick to respond

If your virtual computer stops at the level of compatibility of equipment is shown below on the right.

For example. on my test virtual machine it says "hardware compatibility: Workstation 12.0 Virtual Machine.

VMware Tools is something else, so do not talk about VMware Tools.

  • WD Pass Ultra does not connect to MacAIR

    Hello

I have a MacAir 2012, running the latest software including El Capitan... last night, I have connected my WD My Passport Ultra to the laptop computer and left overnight to back up via Time Machine. In the morning, when I opened the computer not only had the back towards the top do not run, but the drive has ceased to appear in the Finder.

I restarted laptop, Finder, reset the PRAM and SMC, and tried to open utility disk - which does not start upward and only do so if I disconnect the external hard drive. I have connected the player to a desktop Windows PC and player controls indicate the hard drive works fine. In ADDITION, when you are connected to a Mac the drive spins and flashes indicating power going through so I can not think that it is a cable problem.

Can someone help me please? Disk utility does not start if the drive plugged in, so I can't unmount/mount... Held the WD driver manager and who is stuck at 90% so I try to leave it overnight to see if that solved the problem.

    Would appreciate any comments.

    Thank you

I always recommend any new drive formatting, to ensure that all proprietary software are removed, e.g. Manager of drivers WD

After you start DiskUtility then plug in your WD drive, you can try to force mount

  • WD My Passport not recognized as drive external HARD on windows 7

    Hello

I would like to ask if anyone has experienced this and how the address the issue:

I just bought a WD My Passport Ultra 1 TB and tested on two devices (desktop to Win7 ultimate) and portable Win7 Pro. At first I used it on my desk and it it detected as required WDC but subsequently using the router as its update driver.

-J' checked the Disk Manager, and he's not here.

-J' checked Device Manager, it is detected as "Internet access server" (maybe the reason a router driver has been used).

-J' tried to uninstall the server "Internet access" and restart the system to flush it out

-The Office again the HDD detected as "Internet access server.

-J' checked BIOS and it is clearly detected as external WD HARD drive

After all this I tried on the laptop. No problem and did a reformat of the hard drive so that it can be detected as a disk of expenses by the office. Still no luck.

Hope someone can help me here.

    Thank you

    Perry

    Hi Perry,

First of all, check Device Manager to see if the WD hard drive status.
Right-click on the device and click Properties to check the status of the device.

Try to connect the WD Passport to another USB port.

Kindly, follow these methods and check if that helps.
    Method 1:
Try the Fixit from Microsoft Hardware:

Hardware devices do not work or are not detected in Windows
    http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems/en-us?WA=wsignin1.0

    Method 2:
If this does not help, try to rescan the disks in disk management.
    a. right click "my computer".
    b. click 'manage '.
    c. Select 'disk management '.
    d. click Actions and click 'analyze disk '.
    e. find your player in the list in the lower pane. Right click and select "Initialize" and "Add partition".

    Method 3:
If none of the steps help, then remove and reinstall USB controllers.
    a. disconnect all USB devices except the keyboard and mouse.
    b. click on the Start button.
    c. type devmgmt.msc and press ENTER.
    d. in the Manager device scroll down to USB controllers.
    e. right click each one, one at a time and click Uninstall.
    f. restart your computer now, each USB port is reinstalled.

    Now test the question.

Let us know if it helps. If the issue persits, we will be happy to help you.
