  Hello arbirk2, this looks like a problem maybe caused by adware on your pc.

  Please go to firefox > addons > extensions and remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, the things that you have not installed intentionally, I don't know what purpose they serve, etc.).
  
  also go to Control Panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there.
  
  Finally, run a full scan of your system with security tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner.

  Since a few days ago, whenever I open Firefox it opens two copies. Got my tabs from the previous session and the other only my home page. If I close is exemplary, the other closes as well. How can I get rid of the second copy?

  I am running version 27.0.1 in Windows 7 on a 64-bit operating system.

  Tried to delete the attributes read-only files that the above suggested. There is no additional file numbered as he said, there might be, however.   Try this: turn off the Suggestions of Safari in the preferences/Safari/search / uncheck Safari Suggestions.

  Hello Chaosdruid, This is the correct behavior, ctrl + f to open the search bar, try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode that disables some settings and disables most Add-ons (extensions and themes).

  (If you are using an additional theme, place you in default theme.)

  If Firefox is open, you can restart in Mode without failure of Firefox in the Help menu by clicking on the restart with the disabled... modules menu item:

  

  If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Mode safe mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold down the SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key during the startup of Firefox.
  • On Linux: Exit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox-safe-mode
    (you may need to specify the installation path of Firefox for example/usr/lib/firefox)

  Once you get the pop-up, simply select "" boot mode safe. "

  

  If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to understand that one. Please follow the section Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems to find the cause.

  First of all, please update Firefox 32. 22 is no longer support is not safe. So, let us know if you still have this problem. Update Firefox to the latest version

  Hi, as you know, you can change the number of tiles on the Page of the new tab to zoom in or out (Ctrl and + key, or Ctrl and - key).

  If you want to keep the same zoom setting when a new tab is clicked: Type Subject: config in the address bar, press ENTER, accept the warning, scroll to browser.newtab.preload and double-click on it to change the 'value' of true to False.

  It is also possible about: config to change the maximum number of tiles by scrolling to the browser.newtabpage.columns (or Rows), then right-click > modify to set a new number of 'value '.

  As an alternative, you might like to try the add-on new tab tools.
