Web-based data store

Web-based browser data store and object managed by the Vmware ESXi host and vSphere with vCenter are not disabled, but according to the VM security consideration. This should be disabled\... ?

Do you think all the risks inherent in it? given that we have implemented restrictions on user level...

Hello

If you plan to perform hardening of security based on the VMware Security Hardening Guide | United States

There are 3 on the first sheet risk profiles:

Risk profile 1: guidelines which will be implemented in high security environments, for example classified government or military, extremely sensitive, data etc.

Risk profile 2: guidelines should be implemented for the most sensitive environments, for example those who handle sensitive data, those subjected to stricter rules of respect, etc..

Risk profile 3: guidelines which should be implemented in all environments

On the vCenter sheet, there are 2 hardening related to the data store:

1. limit the data browser (risk profile 2 and 3) store

2 disable the Web browser data store (see the risk profile 1)

That which you ask here is number 2 Disable datastore Web browser that must be implemented for the risk profile 1.

If your environment is under 2 and 3 then limiting risk profile permissions of browser data by user or group store should be enough, I don't think you want to turn it off.

But if your environment or the company is a top secret government and military, of the extremely sensitive data, etc. then you can disable the web browser of data store

  • Download VMDK files from the browser to the Web-based data store

    Hello

I want to download the virtual computer VMDK file using the browser of the Web-based data store. I know how to do, but there is something I don't understand.

I have configured my VM with a provisioning. From the VI client, I see that the size of the vm.vmdk is 4 GB.  The size of proviosned is 20 GB.

Technically speaking, if I download the VMDK file, it should be 4 GB, however, from the browser on the vm - flat hard size Web-based data store is 20 GB... What is the standard behavior? Is there a way to download only the actually used 4 GB?

    Hello.

This is the expected behavior, and as much as I know there is no work around if you use the browser to store data.

    Good luck!

  • VMware Server 2.0 CIFS data store bug?

I posted this problem a few weeks ago, but I still can't solve, then I write it again with new information on the problem. I think it could be a bug in VMware Serever but I am not certain about it.

I use VMware server 2.0.2 (b203138) with a Windows 7 Ultimate x 86 as vmware server host and configuration of the NAS data store. The data store hosts all virtual machines, including the ones configuration files, and it's a shared folder located in a Windows Server 2008 Enterprise x 86 SP2. The network mode working group, not in mode active directory.

    Symptoms of the problem:

    • If you stop or restart the host server, when it is once again the CFS data store is unusable and VMS are inaccessible, even if all of them were arrested at the time of the restart.

    • The option to update the data store does not solve anything.

    • If the NAS data store is deleted and recreated from scratch, the machines are still not accessible. It is also necessary to remove and re-add the VMs.

    • If you only reboot the VMware services then you lose not the NAS data store or virtual machines.

    • If you only reboot the NAS then also you don't waste either the data store, or virtual machines, although they were in operation when you rebooted the NAS; the same happens if you stop communication network between the host server and the NAS.

    • A delay in starting services VMware does not solve anything.

    • I tried the start VMware services in manual mode, to be sure that there is full access to the NAS before starting the service, but VMware is still losing the NAS data store and virtual machines, this isn't a problem with permissions to access the network or network connectivity.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

This applies to all the BONES that I know. VMWare server 2.x just keeps the security attributes for authenticated access to CIFS shares underlying network based data stores you set.

I see some information that it's actually worked in server 1.x version, but I can only confirm.

I don't know if it is a bug or by design since this behavior has persisted through several versions 2.x, it can be design to users of reader for commercial versions.

    Good luck

  • A Web site can store data for offline use without asking?

In options, advanced, network, web content offline and the user data, I 'tell me when a website asks to store data for use in offline mode"checked

And then in the box below that lists Web sites that are allowed to store data for offline use there is an entry "https://forecast.io".

This site never asked me to store data offline, and I never did anything to him. The website showed there before, I removed it and now it's back.

So, since I have the box checked to tell me when a site asks you, means that there is not just ask?

Yes, a Web site can store data for offline use without asking and can do even if you have checked the option 'tell me when a website asks to store data for use in offline mode', because this option does not work correctly. See the bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=959985

As far as I know, it does not mean that the site simply "did not", it's just that the option does not work (or maybe only works in the case where the data are larger than the pref in offline mode - apps.quota.warn?)

The workaround given by cor - el above, must currently off - apps.allow_by_default set to false.

  • Report on the use of data store based on cluster (not data center)

    Hello

I want to create separate HTML reports for each cluster I have in my virtual Center. I've created a script, but it doesn't seem to work. This script creates outputs separated from HTML based on clusters, but all the files have the same data, i.e. all data that are available in the Vcenter stores. How can I separate them with regard to the cluster in which they are assigned to the place?

  • Web Client 5.5 - How to download files from data store?

I can't get the file download of data storage works on my 5.5 b vcenter webclient. When you browse the datastore folder / there are only buttons to install the Plugin for integration Client, refresh, new folder and delete. The plugin is installed and I tried to use IE11 and Chrome.

It is a known issue and the workaround is to use an older version of the Mozilla Firefox browser.

    From the release notes: https://www.vmware.com/support/vsphere5/doc/vsphere-vcenter-server-55u1-release-notes.html#knownissues

Integration of client plug-ins can not work as expected if you log the vSphere Web Client using Internet Explorer 11 *.

If you log the Web Client using Internet Explorer 11 vSphere, the following problems may occur when you perform tasks related to the Client plugin integration:

    • Even if the Client integration plugin is installed, the following message appears when you try to import or to export a model from the FVO:
      Download the plugin Client integration
    • File browser does not download or download a file from the data store.
    • You can't get images of the CD/DVD drive.
    • The console of the virtual machine you may see a black screen with the following error message:
Remote console is not properly installed

Solution: use Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, or earlier versions of Internet Explorer to access the Web Client vSphere. You can also use vSphere Client instead of vSphere Web Client to work around this problem.

  • Copying files from a web server to the VMFS data store

Hi everyone I have a little trouble working it.

I say a file on a Web server http://webserver/important.txt and I want to copy this file in a local data store.  I am able to copy the file from the Web server to the server I'm running PowerCLI, and then to the data store, but I can't work on how to copy directly.

    Any ideas?

As far as I know, the Copy-DatastoreItem cannot handle this. The cmdlet requires a path to the Item parameter.

You will need to first create a local file and then copy in the data store.

  • Migration of data to assist based SAN store

    Hey guys,.

We have two esx servers. ESX1 and ESX2.

ESX1 is autonomous, while ESX2 is with a SAN (connected to the HBA fibre channel)

I am now loading on ESX1 vcenter, once this is done, I want to move the VM ESX1 the ESX2 server machine, BUT this time it should reside in the SAN logical unit number.

I know that I can't move without interruption because they have not San already, so I'll have to cold migrate virtual machine to esx2 esx1 but is it the same as usage of vconverter? Also if I migrate can I ask vcenter to load the machine in the logical unit number of the san and not on the esx2 data store?

Please help, I really need to get the VMs on the San and not having to build them from scratch once again.

    Thank you

    RJ

We will all live a virtual life...

    OK

The fact that you are directly connected to the San, and you can see the LUN in the section maps storage equates not once he is able to do something with this LUN.

You must go to the STORAGE (should not be confused with storage adapters) and add it to your server AGAIN.

When asked if the physical storage disk/LUN or connected to the network, you select disk physics/LUN. You will be presented a list of LUN storage adapters can see (including this LUN you're talking 200 GB)... Select it by clicking on it. Then, you will be asked to select the size of the block... I would recommend selecting 1 Mb. Then, you will be asked to give it a name (something like Datastore1_From_SAN works well) and then the server create a VMFS partition on it. Virtual machines LIVE in a VMFS partition - without one on this SAN LUNS, you will not be able to migrate your VM to it

It will then appear in the tab for data warehouses (according to my pic) on the summary page of your server and appears in the page of DATA storages as well

    Hope this helps

  • Satellite M40 - speakers with web based streaming

Recently bought a laptop Satellite M40. Last week, I started having a problem with the playback of certain audio stream on the internet. Basically, you hear the audio OK, only comments and sounds high through the speakers or the speaker I use via a USB connection. Does anyone have an idea what may be the problem? (Note: CD playback is fine, the problem is audio streaming web-based). Do I need to install an updated audio driver?

    Thank you

    Garret

    Hello

On this path, it is not easy to tell exactly what is happening, but the fact is that web-based streaming audio quality depends on the connection itself (connection speed). I put t know what connection speed, you have, but I noticed that the internet radio works on my laptop fine but if I want to watch TV Online I have the same problem. The sound quality is very bad.

My DSL speed is high but I think that the server is probably overloaded and data transfer is not fast enough.

    Thank you!

    Hello
You asked for instructions on how to readd a missing measure.
    Basically, it's pretty easy:
in the VMFS to VMFS-based volume header section, you can assign extends it.
Lets say that the basic volume is mpx.vmhba1:C0:T3:L0:1
first of all extend is mpx.vmhba1:C0:T4:L0:1
    second extension is mpx.vmhba1:C0:T5:L0:1
Then you will see this string in the VMFS header:
    vmhba1:3:0
    and a little later

    MPX.vmhba1:C0:T3:l0:1

    MPX.vmhba1:C0:T4:l0:1

    MPX.vmhba1:C0:T5:l0:1
Just change the list of stretches.
But: normally you can't change this section at all, and to add to the confusion, these values are stored in RAM is not trivial to change this value correctly.
I highly recommend that instead of try it yourself and repeat all the mistakes I made while learning it - call me.
I rather help you personally to give dangerous advice that will probably make things worse.

  • Lack of space in the unable to consolidate data store, what can I do now?

    Hi all:

Today, a single server VM was off because of the latest snapshot of veeam.

I wen to vm machine to the Snapshot Manager and delete the snapshot.

After you remove the server has been started and it seems that everything is OK except the message this need of consolidation server.

I tried to regroup, but when I try to consolidate, it shows me this error

An error occurred in consolidating the discs: msg.disklib.NOSPACE.

After trial of vmware knowledge base I'm cloning virtual machine in another data store that is has a bit more space (temporary) so I test if it works this VM cloned as the original.

I have a few questions. the original VM is up and runing correctly... but I don't know what to do next, please can you help me?

    1. I can move the original VM to another store of data with more than one space the machine consolidate? or it's very risky?

2 I can always use the actual virtual machine without group until I have buy new data store and the passage to the new data store and consolidate? or maybe to clone the virtual machine to the new data store and remove them the old VM?

3º if the cloned version works like the original VM machine, I guess I can pass version clone production and delete the virtual machine no consolidated this original data store?

    Kind regards

There's nothing uncommon to 'Migrate' computer virtual data to another store. With Essentials it will unfortunately take time out well (without live migration of storage available).

In any case, the cloning should also work. The clone will get however a new address UUID and MAC, (i.e. you may need to reconfigure the network), and the cloned VM will get a new ID of virtual machine, which can be important if you use a virtual machine based backup application. However, cloning does not touch the source, so if something does not work as expected you still have the source available.

  • Error when you try to move the cloudvolumes folder in a different data store

OK, so I'm moving my App volume 2.10 cloudvolumes folder of datastoreA on vcenterA on datastoreB on vcenterB, because we want to separate us from our VDI of our basic infrastructure.

We are able to access the two vcenters on the web client.

I tried to just copy the folder datastoreA to datastoreB cloudvolumes and received the following error.

Copy of the file object has already been deleted or has not been entirely created

I've seen this error in Veeam before when moving virtual machines from a data store. The solution is to remove and readd the virtual machine in the inventory.

Everyone tried to move the cloudvolumes folder?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

I would never move the folder because there are files that will always be accessible or are not in read/write mode.

I suggest you copy the files from the 1 folder to another, or maybe add an additional data store to the manager Appvolumes and let the files (appstacks at least) copy automatically.

  • How to remove a VCD 5.5.2 data store

    people,

can you please tell me the steps to remove VCD 5.5.2 datastore?

I see the ability to disable the data store, but there is no delete or remove the option in VCD 5.5.2.

Make sure that vCD does no space set aside in manage and monitor, then remove the tag corresponding to the storage policy or profile of the vSphere client data store.

So don't forget not/note, vCD cares about individual data warehouses.

He asked vCenter... that data warehouses are storage/profile of strategy called 'Gold '? (or whatever it's called)

vCenter responds with a list of stores of data that match the policy/profile.

vCenter knows this association based on the storage/strategy profile looking for specific tags on data warehouses.

  • Lost access to local data store

    Hi people:

I have ESXi 6.0 running on an Intel S2600CWTS motherboard using the LSI SAS controller onboard and six readers Samsung 850 Pro SSD in a RAID 5 configuration.  This server is about a month and a half, and it worked fine for the first month, but in the last few weeks I started to do in the case where journal messages saying that ESXi has lost access to the data store, then, most of the time, about 15 seconds later access is restored.   Several times it took more time, which one crashed the server.  On these long, the motherboard Intel event log showed that a player had failed and began a regeneration and once the motherboard has shown that two different drives had failed, and it took both offline originally ESXi crashing.  On it that I was able to bring the two records back online via the RAID bios and everything worked fine again.  I suspect that I have hard disk problems because these discs are new and because different readers have been reported as failed, and also because no data has been lost even if 2 drives went offline at the same time.   I guess I could have a bad controller LSI, or a cable has come loose somewhere, but I expect to happen if it is really the case of data loss.

I also noticed that lost access messages tend to appear in the log at the moment I start a virtual machine.  At first I thought that it would be one thing to flow, thinking a VM departure did a lot of IO, but this happens immediately, before even the bios of the virtual screen machine disappears, so I don't think that the virtual machine is actually reading the disc again.  In addition, as a precaution, I started the migration of some virtual machines on the server to the old server I still had available, and there is no lost access messages in the event log while that was happening, while about 50 megabytes per second of i/o has reached the disk during transfers.  I put the last patch on ESXi in mid-May, about two weeks before this started, and I begin to suspect that the patch may have something to do with it, because it seems to me that if something is happening between ESXi and the disk controller making hang up or lose interruptions during a short period of time , and I wonder if it goes pretty long if material in the motherboard sensors interpret this as some sort of hardware and simply brand failure according to readers I / O was hooked as bad then.

Unfortunately I'm out of town now so I wanted more I had to the remote server, lest I do not not get back to the top.  I moved a couple of the most critical virtual machines from the old server which I was remotely start and transfer to virtual machines.  I also noticed that this issue tended to occur more frequently when I got to the top of the VCenter Server apparatus that any other (sometimes to others, but has happened every time I tried to start the device VCenter).  So who was the first that I moved to the old server, but strangely enough there is no error logged when I transferred the files, so the issue is not that ESXi had trouble reading the VMs vmdk file when I started it.

I also wanted to ask you if there are any vibs for the LSI Megaraid controller on motherboard S2600CWTS I could install that would allow me to access the RAID controller without having to pick up the server and do it from the BIOS configuration screens, similar to how you can access the controller RAID from Dell while ESXi is running via a vib add-on.  So far I have not found one.

My intention when I go to the server is to run an integrity check against the RAID 5 array via the controller and then use the AIMÉ ESXi utility on the data store to see if something is wrong here.  If not, then I guess I'll rewritten can patch.

    Ideas or suggestions welcome.

Success!  I finally understood what the problem was corrected.  The problem is the fact that although the last vib driver LSI has been installed, for some reason any it would not automatically replace the default ESXi pilot lsi_mr3.  I did not notice that even though the latest driver package vib properly installed LSI controller was still using the original driver.  This could be considered by a 'esxcfg-scsidev - a' command showed that even "vmhba1 lsi_mr3 link-n/a sas.5001e67ca647e000 (0000:0: 00.0) controller LSI MegaRAID SAS Fury."  The second field after the controller (vmhba1) is the current manager used.  The pilot, which was to be used was: "vmhba1 megaraid_sas link-n/a unknown.vmhba (0000:03:00.0) Avago (LSI / Symbios Logic) Invader MegaRAID SAS controller.

To fix this I had to disable the lsi_mr3 driver so that ESXi is forced to use it.  The procedure to do is the following:

    (1) make sure you have the new EXSi driver you want to use already installed.  I assume that bad things would happen if you have disabled the only driver who could run your disk controller.  Use this command to view the drivers installed: "esxcli software vib list" and you should get something similar to the following:

[root@intelserver:~] esxcli list of software of vib

    [root@intelserver:~

Verify that the scsi-megaraid-sas driver is installed before proceeding.

    (2) to disable the lsi_mr3 driver do the following: "esxcli set of module system - enabled = false - module = lsi_mr3 '

    (3) reboot

After restarting, do: "esxcfg-scsidev - a" to check megaraid_sas driver is assigned to your disk controller.

I don't know how ESXi decided to prioritize if two or more drivers are applicable to a single hardware device, or if the installation of the new driver LSI process is supposed to disable or remove default lsi_mr3 driver and simply failed to do so.  Also, I don't know what's going to happen when I put on the next patch of ESXi, specially if the lsi_mr3 driver will be once more the priority.  If anyone knows how the driver installation process is supposed to work in this situation, please let me know.  I am so happy that I finally got this problem because the server has been seriously covered with the data store become unaccessable for 5 to 10 seconds every time a VM started or stopped, and the former driver at least once done something bad enough to deceive the controller into thinking that one of the disks has went wrong and began a RAID Resync.
