  I have vaio vgn - sz 750N and installed windows 8.1 on it. all the materials are OK except Webcam. 8.1 Windows install automatically the driver webcam as "USB Video device" under imaging devices. but this driver does not work.   Please provide the name of the exact model of your laptop. After checking, it shows that the model of computer you have, it does not support Windows 8.1, and because of that some features and functionality may not work.

  Why using an external webcam If your laptop is already equipped with a webcam? AFAIK all L500 models have such a built-in webcam.

  In my opinion, you should try the internal one. I m sure its functioning with your Messenger, I have also the webcam internal to Skype without any problem. :)

  In addition, you must contact Microsoft about this problem. It has nothing to do with Toshiba.

  On the European driver Toshiba page, you can find the webcam driver v2.0.0.19 and v2.0.0.13.

  If the driver software in any device is not yet deployed by the manufacturer, Windows 7 has the possibility of installing the driver in compatibility mode. You can download the drivers supported for Windows vista and install it. But make sure you install drivers 64-bit if your 64-bit operating system or install the 32-bit drivers if your operating system is 32-bit, because 32 bits can not work well for 64-bit device.

  To install in compatibility mode follow the steps below:

  i. right click on the program (.exe file)

  II. click on properties

  III. click on the Compatibility tab

  IV. Select run this program in compatibility mode and select windows vista or Windows XP

  Your webcam drivers from the manufacturer of the webcam needs, allowing him to talk to any operating system that you have installed.  You need to go to the site web page/support from the manufacturer to your webcam and see if they support the material in your chosen new OS and download / install the appropriate drivers/software.

  So, try to disable the webcam software and other e-mail programs in msconfig.
