weird file names

Hello

After having copied my folder music on the internal memory, records have long names, with a large number of major zero characters that were not present in the original source.

Why and how can I solve this? to rename the files is unsuccessful.

Tapeworm,

In MSC mode, I don't see any music files/folders when the Sansa is connected to the computer. Please notify.

There is a problem with the USB mode: a computer cannot see the files that had been transferred to the player under the mode that the Clip is then connected to the player under.  And so for ease, better stick to a single USB mode.

To 'fix' the questions: to connect to the computer with the USB setting on a USB mode, to transfer the files see you on your computer, delete these files in the clip, unplug the drive, set the player to the other USB mode, connect to the computer and transfer the songs on your PC to your Clip. And then keep the player the value as the USB mode.

Personally, unless you have files DRM'ed, I recommend sticking with the USB MSC mode.   Whatever you do, stay away from the mode Auto USB, which can (silently) switch between MTP and MSC modes.

It's funny - I do not have Windows Defender installed as the Microsoft support engineer suggested (and I never install) but I do not have the MsMpEng.exe running all the time.  How can this be?  I guess it could be, but I do not wish to install Windows Defender to find out.

MsMpEng.exe is part of Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE).

If it seems that it is somehow afflicted, I would just uninstall the whole shebang (MSE), reboot without it and see the side of things..., fix any other matter at that time and when things are cleaned and running smoothly, reinstall MSE.  Yo udon can't want to get in the way of your other efforts if she is distressed.

There will be some personal information (such as the user name and the name of the system), and anything that turns information private for you, simply delete the pasted information.

  • network file names are incorrect

I know this isn't a new problem, but it's one that I just found playing with my network. What I see, it's incorrect file names when I discover a directory of files on another system.

My network consists of three computers: (1) a laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 - bit edition with service pack 2; (2) a laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit edition with service pack 1; and (3) a desktop computer running Windows XP Home Edition 32 - bit edition with service pack 3. The two laptops are connected to the network via a wireless connection and the desktop computer is connected via a wired Ethernet connection. All systems are up to date, as of the writing of this message (05/04/2011).

Incorrect file names appear between two laptops, while the XP system sees the correct file names.

To be explicit, let's say I'm on portable 2 and I open the directory Public/Public/Sample image images on laptop 1. the file names of the images I see are incorrect. For example, one of the images is named "Chrysanthemum" but when I open the image I see "stream". Now, the actual image on laptop 1 is called "Creek", but it was misnamed in the directory listing as "Chrysanthemum". So what I actually see what's actually on the laptop 1, but it has the wrong name. Now, this is where it gets weird: the wrong file name, in this case "Chrysanthemum", is actually the name of an image on laptop 2.

This behavior is reflected when I'm on portable 1 and I opened the users/Public/Public/Sample image images on laptop 2. In this case, one of the images is named 'Toco Toucan' but when I open the image I see "Medusa". Now, the actual image on laptop 2 is named "Jellyfish", but it was poorly named in the list as "Toco Toucan" of directories. And once again, in this case 'Toco Toucan' is the name of an image on laptop 1.

The designation of bad is a bit random. In other words, some pictures are named incorrectly, and some are named correctly.

Interestingly, if I find the directories of portable 1 and 2 computers in the XP system, I see the correct file names. And vice versa, if I find the directory from the desktop to a laptop, I see the correct file names. So, the problem seems to be unique for transactions between Windows Vista and Windows 7 systems.

If I create a shortcut of the file name of the image, the properties of the shortcut will reveal the name of the file to the real destination. For example, if I create a shortcut of the Toco Toucan, the properties of the shortcut display \\laptop 2\Users\Public\Pictures\Sample Pictures\Jellyfish.jpg.

Looking for some references to this problem on the Internet has been very difficult due to the complexity of the problem, but I could find only one reference which seems to describe the problem, it is however an old reference (April 8, 2007): http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/29691878/incorrect-filenames.aspx

There are indeed from the Thumbs.db files in those directories, however, their removal does not correct the problem.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Y at - it a fix for the problem? I can't believe that this problem has not been resolved by Microsoft.

  • Change file names

I have some videos imported Photos.  I put titles for videos, but when I click and drag them to my office, he still has generic file names (i.e. IMG_0013.m4v).  Is there a way to change the file names of videos and photos from photos?

When I click on read the information, I can see both the titles and the names of files, but I can't change the file names.

    Thank you!

    J Hevel

There are two ways to change the filenames of a photo or a video and two require export out of the library.

The first method is to put the file in the title field name below the thumbnail and export the original

    with the following parameters:

The second method is to export the original with this setting:

  • Is it possible to sort the images by file name?

I imported a record of 200 images in Photos for OS X (El Captain). Image files have been appointed in the order - I want them to appear in a slide show: photo_01, photo_02 etc...

Once I imported the images - I found them all out of order - and the only options I can find in the view menu are somehow 'oldest first', 'newest first' or ' title '. Please, someone tell me I'm missing something obvious - he and not that Apple chose to omit the possibility to sort the images by name? If this is the case - I'm speechless - how is f - ing stupid!

Sort by file name is not an option in the Photos. Albums and smart albums you yourself set can be sorted by name, date of capture, or manually.

Sorting through the predefined albums is automatic:

    • 'Photos' display with moments and collections is sorted by date of capture and the location.
    • 'All the Photos' display is sorted by the date of the import session.
    • Other built-in smart albums are sorted by the date of capture.

You can see the current sort order, preset, if it is grayed out in the "view > sort ' menu.

    As a workaround:

    1. If you need to want pictures to be sorted by file name, copy the name of the file in the title field. Then, create a smart album of the items and sort by title. We have posted a trick to copy the name of the file in the title field for the selected photos: Script: change the title filename without Extensionor: Script: batch change the titles of the Extension/w
    2. Or view your photo library in pictures of power.  This versatile tool lets you browse photos as a list or thumbnail while looking the other metadata under the thumbnails or displayed as list with columns selected and sorted by columns.

You can do a lot with the free trial: download PowerPhotos here: Fat Cat Software-PowerPhotos

  • Unmasking the exported files file name extension

    Hello

When you export a Pages (PDF, DOCX...) file (.pdf, .docx...) file name extension is hidden automatically, even if it appears in the file save dialog box. As it is for most of the files that will be sent to the employees on a PC, see the file extension name is very important.

Is it possible to force Pages to let these visible extensions?

    Thank you!

    Paolo

It belongs to your PC users own parameters so they have file extensions or not.

On a Mac, just select the file and Get Info (command I) then check the box show the file extension .

There is also a checkbox in the Save dialog to show or hide the extension.

  • Multiple images with the same file name no doubt prevent export

iMac running OS X El Capitan v10.11.6; Photos 1.5

I'm trying to export approximately 331 images and I get an error report saying that only 169 of the exported images due to the inability to create files for 159 of the images.  Then the report gives me the names of files of the first 100 images for which files were not created.  After looking at many images that would not create a file, I realized that, in any case, there was at least one, if not several, other images with the SAME EXACT FILE name as the image in question.  I can't change the names of files by right click on "info".  I tried to export the images and change the names of files to export using the sequential option and the option of album name - always having exactly the same problem.  I even tried not to export an image at once and change the name of the file individually or no available. Is there a work around that? I desperately need to export those specific images. • Sorting files in folders from the parts of a file name

    Hello

I have a library of images that I need to build to work. The images have been recorded as this for example

    Dolce & Gabbana - the One_EDT_50ml.jpg

There are 1000's of brands, so I need a script that looks for the part of the file name before the hyphen. and create a folder based on all the images that fall under this brand.

    If anyone can help?

I've never used script before, but any solution I can work with that will work for me.

    Thank you

    Use the following syntax:

    Tell application "Finder".

Repeat until (files window count 1) is 0

the value the_offset to compensate for the "-" (get the window 1 1 file name)

    the value the_name items 1 thru (the_offset - 1) (get the filename window 1 1) as string

move (all files 1 window whose name begins with the_name) (making the new file to the window 1 with properties {name: the_name})

    end repeat

    tell the end

  • Some Excel files download but do not show associated with Excel or seem to have no file name extension.

Some Excel files download but do not show associated with Excel or seem to have no file name extension. If I download these files using Internet Explorer, they open properly. I can add xls or xlsx file and it will open properly with Excel. If I select the file open the 'Open with' dialog box and I If select Excel, the file does not open at all... nothing happens and Excel does not open. The excel in the picture as an attachment file are those where I added the excel file name extension.

Unfortunately, the way that Firefox gives the name of file is more literal and less improvisational than Internet Explorer, you may need to add this extension .xls or .xlsx yourself from time to time.

If you want to do it in the shortest time, you can change the immediate download to ask you where to save the file, which also foresees the possibility to change the file name. If you want to try it, the setting is described here: start-up, homepage, tabs and download settings.

  • Try to restore a lost Thunderbird profile, but can't "move profile" because the file names are too long

I'm having a problem with Thunderbird that is addressed in several comments here and on "mozillaZine", but trying to follow the instructions for fixing it, I ran into a new problem that I see not addressed. The initial problem is that described in this thread, where my files and everything just disappeared, and I am invited to start to create a new profile:

    https://support.Mozilla.org/en-us/questions/1040003

Following the links in this thread, I get to this - and since my address book has also apparently gone, I click the internal link to the section titled 'Lost profile':

    http://KB.mozillazine.org/Recovering_a_profile_that_suddenly_disappeared

Step 1 then sent me here:

    http://KB.mozillazine.org/Moving_your_profile_folder_-_Thunderbird

Step 2 on this page says: "Copy the profile folder where you want to store." When I try to do it, however (using Windows Explorer on Windows 7), he gets to halfway through the copy and then hang up because it clashes with a file name that is too long to copy. And according to the prompt that tells me this, there are many more yet to come long file names.

Ignore this error and I just ignore these files? That means the copy of profile won't be complete, which I think would be dangerous or would just cause other errors. Or is there some simpler way quite do what I originally planned to do, which is to recover the profile which has mysteriously disappeared?

Again, I'm under Thunderbird on Windows 7 and it was used for years without ever encountering this extremely irritating glitch. I'll be grateful for any help.

Here are three different approaches, I suggest:

1 see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-multiple-profiles and see if you can switch to that you want to use the Profile Manager.

    2. While TB is NOT running, use a prompt with the following commands: Note: place the entire path in quotation marks.

    • CD "the full path of your current profile directory name '.
    • xcopy "the full path of your"good"profile name" / s/h
    • now check with the Windows Explorer, and switch to him as above

3 change "profiles.ini" (using a text editor such as Notepad) to point to the profile 'good '. "profiles.ini" looks like this:

    [General]
    StartWithLastProfile = 1

    [Profile0]
    Name = default
    IsRelative = 1 * change this to 0 *.
Path = yt20rg5n.default * change this to the path and the name of your profile of "good."
    Default = 1

Let me know how it turns out.

  • File names image missing from the underside of the Photo Image

I recently spoke with someone from Apple support and they confirmed that displaying the name of the file Image is a present feature in iPhoto, but was lost in the update photograph.  Their suggestion was to send feedback to Apple.  He said that it is the most effective way to get results and more of us than that best the chance we have to see this feature in a future update of photography.  It was my return to Apple:

"Thank you for the update photograph... I appreciate some of the improved features that have been made for him. However, I would like to note that the absence of the names of files that appears under the image is cruelly.  I find this information very useful as I get pictures from other sources and helps determine the ownership of the photos.  Now, I'm a little lost without her.

While the screen may look sharper and more user friendly for some, it would be good to know that this feature could be made available View (display Image File Name) option.

Could I do that as a suggestion for your next release? »

If you are also missing this feature, I encourage you to submit your comments to http://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html

iPhoto has used the names of files as a default title to be displayed as thumbnails, if no title has been assigned. Photo for Mac displays only the titles under the thumbnails, if a title had been awarded. He makes a distinction between a title assigned user and a file name.

As a workaround: in the tip section the user to change the title of a photo file name - have a look, we have posted a few Scripts from Apple:

Photos will show the title under the thumbnails if you select the titles in the menu: view > metadata.

An alternative workaround: you get pictures of the power.  It allows you to browse your photo library with fields of metadata under the thumbnails - keywords, titles, names of files. You can customize what you want to see in the title or subtitle.

But I support the request for better support of metadata in the pictures.  The feedback form is here: Feedback - Photos - Apple

Hi Akush, when you install 7 - zip, make itself the default application to open .zip and .rar files. So if you double click on the .rar file, it should open in 7 - zip. If you prefer to decompress immediately, right click the file and look for new 7 - zip items in the menu. I can't think of a way to do this automatically, however.

Hi, I am trying to copy my profile for a new installation on another computer (win 7 box to win box of 8). In the past, it worked smoothly without any problem (did not have to do it for a few years).

I packed my profile in winRAR and copied over the network to the new box. Then when I tried to UN-package, I get 1 403 error (for example):
