A byte is a unit of digital computer information and telecommunications which consists of eight bits.

You can convert a base character 10, or hexa in base 2.

For example: 8 in base 10 is 1000 in base 2. And since an octet consists of 8 bits, the remaining 4 bits are all 0: 00001000 (B2) = 8 (B10) = 8(B16 aka hexa)

Other words, a byte is a base 2 number which consists of 8 bits. And since a bit can only be 0 or 1, an octet will always be 1 and only 0.

A good example is the IP address (IP v4 since 6 uses hex).

172.16.254.1 = 10101100.00010000.11111110.00000001

  • What happens if a character is not existing in db characterset?

    Hello

    I have a 10.2 db with WE8ISO8859P15 charset.
Our forms application runs on windows clients - they use inside NLS_LANG WE8MSWIN1252.

Now the user want to store the sign of ascii 151 "em dash" (copy/paste from MS Word).
As far as I know, the chracterset db 'don't know' this character and shows the question mark reversed in oracle forms.

    My question is:
Will be the database to store ascii 191 (question mark reversed) if the character is not existing in chracterset db? Or which character will be stored?
(No it would be more logical if the PB store not this character?)

    Thank you
    Florian.

If you attempt to insert a character that does not exist in the game (except in a few special cases where you have misconfigured the system to work around the character set conversion) character database Oracle actually stores a wildcard character. Maybe it's the base character (for example Oracle can store a regular 'e' instead of an 'e' accentuated if the accented 'e' does not exist in the database character set) or it can be a wildcard (i.e. upside down question mark). In both cases, the conversion is dissipative - you will not be able to recover the original character of the data that is stored in the database.

In your particular case, the character represented by the value of 115 in Windows-1252, which is not a character corresponding to ISO-8859-15, head down question mark (191 in ISO-8859-15 value) would be stored in the database. You can confirm that by issuing the query

    SELECT DUMP( your_column_name )
      FROM your_table_name
     WHERE your_key = <>

This will show the values are actually stored in the database.

  • What is all about character 65279?

In the circumstances, I'm not quite sure. (I put styles, styles/xml tag automatic and card, and also use double on some opportunity). There are in all cases these additional characters added with charCode 65279, and once they are there I can't seem to get rid of them.

I have attached a picture of my debugging here:

    Untitled-1.png

    Positions 10, 11, 15 and 16 contain the same code 65279.

What this means in InDesign? I found someone saying that they are "Zero Width No - Break Space", but I don't know it's true, or if so, what is the meaning of them, and how you can replace?

They are converted to spaces when I extracted the content and use it in a client application and the next two times new spaces are added, this is why they are troubling for me. The best thing would be if I could prevent from appearing in the first place, or they can be removed when the data reading.

    Any ideas?

    Best regards

  • Error of TCP connection when sending MODBUS for WAGO controller 750-881 orders after 113655 bytes of data have been sent

    Hi all

I'm new in the world of labview and trying to build a VI that sends commands to a controller of the WAGO 750-881 at regular intervals of 10 ms.

To set each of the WAGO comics at the same time, I try so to send the Modbus fc15 command every 10ms using Labview standard TCP write module.

When I run the VI it works for about a minute before receiving an error message 56 telling me the TCP connection has expired. This strange thought, I decided to record the number of bytes sent via the TCP connection while running the program. In doing so, I noticed that the link broken after exactly 113655 bytes of data have been sent each time.

Thinking can I have sent too many messages, I increased the delay of the loop of 10ms to 20, 100 and 200 ms, but the error remained. I also tried to play with the TCP connection timeout and the writing TCP timeout, but none of these had no effect on the problem.

I do not see why this error occurs, such as the program works perfectly up until what brand 113655 bytes.

I've attached a screenshot of the base VI (simply showing a MODBUS command sent every second) and a more advanced VI (where I am able to control each of the WAGO manually by setting a frequency at which the DO is to switch between ON and OFF).

If anyone has any ideas on where the problems lie, or that I could do to debug more program this would be greatly appreciated.

    AvdLinden wrote:

    Hi ThiCop,

Yes, the error occurs after exactly 113655 bytes each time. Time-out control, I would like to use is 10ms, but even that will rise to 1 s or 10s does not error, which leads me to believe that's not the issue (as well, do not add any delay in the while loop, so let it run at the maximum speed showed that the TCP connection is able to send all the bytes 113655 in less than 3 seconds again directed towards control of time-out) is is not the issue here).

I tried the suggestion of Marco but having difficulty to translate the string returned in a readable string (rightnow the answer given is "-# +" ' ").

As for your second suggestion, I've implemented something similar, where I created a sub VI to establish a TCP connection, send a message and then close the connection. I have now to build each message and then send the string to the Subvi, which sends the command to my application successfully. While not the most elegant method to solve the problem, it solves the problem of time-out, which means that I am able to send as many orders as I want. So in this sense, the problem has been resolved.

If you have advice on how to properly read the TCP read the output, I want however to see if I could not get my first program to work because it is slightly more robust in terms of timing.

MODBUS RTU TCP is a binary protocol, as you show in your base VI, where you put in the form the data stream using byte values. So you have to interpret the returned answer accordingly with the Modbus RTU spec in the hand. Now what is probably happening is that the connection is suspended after a while because you do NOT read data from the device sends as response to your commands. The TCP/IP stack cushions these bytes and at certain point of overflow internal buffers and the connection is blocked by the battery. So to add playback of TCP in strategic locations (usually after each entry) is the right solution for this. Is there a reason any that you do not use the PROVIDED Modbus TCP library?

  • Questions of character Tag search/replace

FM 12.0.4.445 on Windows 7 Enterprise

I created a character tag (Skip spelling) with all the properties defined on "such what" with the exception of the language, which is set to 'None '. The purpose of this tag must be FM to skip some words for spell checking. For example, my paper discusses many different file extensions, such as. TXT. DAT, etc. These terms may not be added to the dictionary due to the parameter 'space before' for periods, I don't want to change.

By applying this tag character works fine, except in two cases:

    • All first, apply occasionally forces an end to the next line of a paragraph, as if the term has increased in size. Not a big deal, but I'm curious as to why this would happen. It also makes me wonder about the spread and stretch the parameters remaining at 0% and 100%, well I tried to delete the definition of character tag.
    • More important still, using find/replace with change = by gluing applies the new tag of character but also changes "BOLD" to plain text, especially in the "BOLD" headings. (Copy special > character Format has been used to copy the character tag.) Apply the tag of character directly for a term of "BOLD" does not remove the "BOLD". Is the find/replace properly configured or it is a bug?

Thanks a lot for your help.

I can't help much with respacing number. Check that your character Skip spelling format is really changing only the language. See what changes in the Character Designer when you apply the format, or save a MIF file and review the definition of your character Skip spelling format.

Copy special > copy character Format all the properties of the formatting of characters. If the Find/Replace dialog box behaves as expected - which unfortunately for you, is not as intended.

  • getModulus (byte [] buffer, offset short): confused by arguments

    Hi all!

I don't really understand the parameters to the functions getModulus (byte [] buffer, offset short) and getExponent (byte [] buffer, offset short).

currently I am working on a verification of the data on the database 11g, recently I found a strange figure in the field of data, the character resembles a space but I don't trim. When I select and copy (ctrl c) and (ctrl p) and paste it into a Notepad, it paste nothing, the cursor does not move at all. without knowing what is this strange character, I can't perform filtering on it.

It is a conditional dash. It was inserted by InDesign based on the fact that the break is THERE so that the paragraph you have selected the language and hyphenation and Justification settings. You cannot select this character because it is not part of the story, but it is an automatic link which will disappear if certain changes are made to the text so that it is redéroule or if you change or remove hyphenation.

    Hi guys

I hope it's a simple question - im afraid I can't find anything in google

    for example:

    CHAR_LENGTH (STR)

Returns the length of the string str, measured in characters. A multi-byte character counts as a single character. This means that for a string containing five two-byte characters, LENGTH() returns 10, whereas CHAR_LENGTH() returns 5.

So, your query would go something like this...

    SELECT *.
    FROM MyTable
    WHERE char_length(column-in-table) > 4
