When I try to play a DVD, I get video but no sound.

I HAVE WINDOWS XP SP3, I RECENTLY USED FIX IT IS A FUNCTION OF MEDIA PLAYER TO DETECT ANY PROBLEM. HE POINTED OUT THAT MY DVD DRIVE IS NOT DETECTED BY MEDIA PLAYER, EVEN IF IT IS LISTED IN THE DEVICE MANAGER AND WORK FINE ON OTHER MEDIA PLAYERS. I TRIED TO PLAY A DVD MOVIE BUT I COULD ONLY SEE THE VIDEO AND HAD NO AUDIO, THE DVD EVEN WHEN I PLAYED IN VLC WORKED WITH AUDIO-VIDEO BOTH. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? Help?
